True. JVisualVM is easier to use. But there can be problems with GUI access, firewalls and additional authentication such as Kerberos to deal with in "corporate" environments.

I normally get take my heap dumps using jvisualvm.
With the MBeans plugin enabled you can go to MBeans tab and select: com.sun.management -> HotSpotDiagnostic.
Under the 'operations' tab there is a dumpHeap button. The two options it takes are:
1. filename. If you don't specify a directory it will go into the processes current working directory.
2. Should the heap dump exclude anything eligible for garbage collection.

Nice. Happend to me with the JPA annotation orphanRemoval=true over a Hibernate db. Made me question the need for the orphan removal at all - which I don't think I need after all. Thanks

I have reported to Shaadi many time of the amount of Nigerian scammers working through their sight and 1 year on and there is still no change. Its clearly a huge problem as i appear not to be the only one that has encountered this problem. For me they are now very easy to spot and i have pointed out these 'easy to spot' signs yet Shaadi appear to be nothing to stop them. The sad this is that Shaadi are loosing credibility to me it looks as though they arn't too bothered as they are now perhaps just a money making machine after all its a numbers game right?

@Hemant
There could be many reasons.

Look out for firewall issues.

Try connecting with a well known client such as FileZilla to see if things work fine.

Just a small note, FileZilla does not support SFTP either. On windows you'll have to find a different server. Solaris on the other hand supports SFTP out of the box but I haven't found anything yet that says whether or not it supports FTPS in the same manner. Great post by the way, summed the answers for a lot of the questions I had for FTP up well in a single response.

I don't know what I was thinking of when I wrote that. That wasn't right - probably late at night and got mixed up with some other point I was trying to make.

Replaced it.

Not true Amit... I never paid... and yet found my husband on shaadi.com last more than a year ago. It does work well for those who enter into it with the goal being marriage. My husband and I met once in public, agreed to marriage, didnt date, and with-in 4 months the wedding was planned and all had agreed. 6 months later we were happily married and living in California. My husband wrote me via the free trial.. and I never paid at all. So you dont HAVE to pay. You just have to be serious about finding the right person and not get hung up on trying to find a supermodel ceo... or a quick date hookup.

Thanks for the article. I've been struggling to change this file within omni.jar for FF5+, but no luck.
For FF6.0.2 I just exctracted omni.jar, deleted it and edited the file accordingly. Works fine!
Drawback is that your FF will load 10ms slower :)

Another application is “Checksums calculator”. Is a GUI tool to calculate and verify md5, sha1, sha256, sha384, sha512 witch can run under Linux, Windows and MacOS X operating systems on both 32 and 64bit architectures. You may find more info and download here: http://www.sinf.gr/en/hashcalc.html

sreedhar, dude ! Thank you soo much. Your comment made me think outside of my self-made box. For me the entity class that created the problem wasn't directly related to the entity class of the field that was reported in the hibernate exception. So I first spend 6 hours assuming something was somehow touching the reference that the exception reports...had nothing to do with that reference but another reference in the same class.

I came across same error and for me it was kind of different issue and I solved it too..just to share it here in case if u come acros my scenario.

For me this error happened, when i was tring to update the object using saveOrUpdate(), one of the sub-class key value was null and since it couldn't find, it throwed error. once i assigned key value properly, error went away.
