Sony Vaio TZ92 is an ultra portable with Intel core 2 duo U7700 1.33GHZ and 1GB RAM (which can be upgraded up to 2GB). You can either opt for a 64GB solid state drive or go with a HDD up to 250GB.

Vaio TZ92 is available in 10 colors and comes with a lightweight carbon fibre casing. The 11.1 inch screen can produce brilliant colors and is of good clarity. It supports resolution up to 1366×768.

If you don’t intend to use the laptop for storing movies and other space consuming stuff, go for the 64GB solid state drive. It can substantially improve the battery life. There are 3 battery options - lightweight with 3 hour support, standard with 6 hour support and the enhanced battery offers up to 10 hours of continuous computing!

By default the laptop comes with 1GB RAM which is too low for Vista. One drawback of this laptop is that it can be upgraded only up to 2GB RAM.

Sony Vaio pricing starts at $2500 for the base model and for full option it can be as high as $4000.

Panasonic R7 is an extremely compact notebook and is suited for on the move professionals and students. Battery life of over 8 hours(!) is hard to beat and on top of it the notebook weighs only 2lbs (less than 1Kg).

R7 has a built in display of 10.4" XGA TFT which offers resolutions up to 1024×768. This laptop comes with 1GB RAM which can be extended to a maximum of 2GB. This machine is powered by a Intel Core 2 Duo U7600 1.2GHZ and has all the standard ports (WiFi, Modem, LAN, USB 2.0 etc.). The default HDD is 80GB which you can extend up to 256GB.

Overall this machine looks sleek. The keyboard is water proof and Panasonic claims that this machine can withstand 100kg of weight on it!

Depending on the options you choose, Panasonic R7 price varies between $2000 and $3000. I would suggest the 2GB RAM upgrade if you are planning to buy this little laptop.

Panasonic R7 is ideal if you are looking for a laptop you can take outside for long periods. But don’t expect any stellar performance if you decide to play games on it!

Alienware specializes in high performance laptops and desktops which mainly targets the gaming community. The latest in the powerful notebook category is the Area-51 m15x. The high end version in this series comes with Intel core 2 du0 2.4GHZ and the pricing starts around $2000. If you customize and opt for all the upgrades, the price can go upto $5000!!

Area-51 m15x contains one of the most powerful mobile graphics cards in the market - NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX. It also comes with a15.4 inch widescreen LCD display which supports upto 1920×1200. This resolution is more than what is required for HDTV! But all this power comes at a cost as the Area-51 m15x weighs over 7lbs.

Other core features include a 7-in-1 media reader, 8 channel high definition audio, integrated wireless, bluetooth 2.0 and Windows Vista or Ultimate.

If you are not looking for huge disk space, I recommend you upgrade to 64GB solid state drive which takes less power and is much more reliable if you are always on the move. Another upgrade worth the money is the 2GB additional RAM which will take the overall RAM to 4GB. In my experience, Vista needs 4GB for smooth performance.

If you are a rich kid, you can buy this baby with your eyes shut!

The name M2010 sounds like it is a machine from the year 2010. And from the looks of it, it is a futuristic laptop. If you are ultra rich, this is the laptop to buy. This sports an unbelievable 20″ widescreen sure to satisfy all your mobile movie fantasies! I am not sure whether you can call this a laptop. It weighs over 18lbs!!

The high end version costs over $4000 and comes with blue ray disc drive. But surprisingly this version has only 1GB of RAM. Never go for this unless you want to flaunt your money. The best one among the lot seems to be Media Guru version with 2GB RAM. All versions come with a 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1800.

Key Specification for Media Guru XPS M2010
Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667 MHz FSB)
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1800
2GB3 Dual Channel4 DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
Hard Drive Dual: 500GB5 (2×250GB) 5400RPM Hard Drive
Optical Drive: Slot Load CD/DVD Burner (DVD +/-RW6)

Pros

This looks fantastic. You can show this to all your friends and neighbours

Good design and brilliant screen (20″+) and can replace your desktop

Cons

Way too expensive for ordinary mortals like me!

You can take it around, but it won’t be easy though!
