Dr Yiota Demetriou The Dancing Queen Foundation and the English Learning Center (ELC) are joining forces to host a special day dedicated to children. A childrens fun day is being organized for Sunday 20th of May at the ELC premises from 11:00am to 07:00pm.

Come along, play your games, win your prizes and join in the fun for what promises to be a day packed with entertainment, excitement and many surprises!

One of the years most anticipated concerts to be held in Cyprus will take place on the 2nd of June in Nicosias Pavilion Hall.
On June 2nd 2012, rock and metal fans will have the chance to witness a Live performance by the Finnish modern metal superstars CHILDREN OF BODOM. The event is presented by MONSTER ENERGY and organized by Re3ject Entertainment (www.re3ject.com) and is undoubtedly one of the most exciting Live concerts of the year.

CHILDREN OF BODOM have more than 7,000,000 (million) fans worldwide and they are one of the hotest names currently known in the metal scene. Their live shows include apperances in some of the most well known and established festivals worldwide like Download Festival (2011), Wacken (2011), GigaTour (2008) Sonisphere (2012) ,alongside legendary bands like Black Sabbath, Motorhead and Slayer just to name a few.

Children of Bodom are considered one of the biggest Finnish Heavy Metal bands and one of the biggest in Europe. Frontman of the band is the modern day guitar hero Alexi Laiho. In addition to Laiho, Children of Bodom consist of Roope Latvala (guitar), Jaska Raatikainen (drums), Henkka Sepala (bass) and Janne Warman (keyboard).

What places this band at the pinnacle of the pack is the way it can suddenly dish up huge swathes of melody and instantly memorable choruses with an unmatched degree of musicianship that has seen vocalist and guitarist Alexi Wildchild Laiho and his cohorts grace the covers of musician magazines all around the globe.

Alex Laiho was ranked #96 out of 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time by Guitar World. Guitar World magazine has also ranked him as one of the 50 fastest guitarists in the world.
In addition, Roadrunner Records ranked Laiho at #41 out of 50 of The Greatest Metal Frontmen of All Time. In Total Guitar’s voting poll determined Alex Laiho as the greatest metal guitarist of all time as he was voted #1 out of 20 metal guitarists.

Since their formation Children of Bodom has recorded and released six full length studio albums, two EPs, one DVD and two compilations one of which includes a full album of the bands favourite tunes. With each subsequent album, the band has honed and perfected its unique sound and today stand tall in metals pantheon along with the finest heavy music acts.

The band’s third studio album, Follow the Reaper, was their first album to receive a Gold certification in Finland, and since then, all seven of the band’s studio albums have reached the same Gold certification status. In Finland three consecutive albums from Children of Bodom debuted at number one on Finnish album charts and have also seen chart positions on the United States Billboard 200.

Their latest album Holiday at Lake Bodom (15 Years of Wasted Youth), will be released on May 22nd as a very special CD & DVD pack celebrating the bands 15th Anniversary. The release will spotlight specially selected songs from each of their acclaimed albums Something Wild (1997), Hatebreeder (1999), Follow the Reaper (2000), Hate Crew Deathroll (2003), Are you Dead Yet? (2005),Blooddrunk (2008) and Relentless Reckless Forever (2011) plus newly recorded cover songs.

Their performance in Cyprus is a celebration and a showcase of their 15th Anniversary European tour and fans should expect one of the most anticipating acts still to be experienced.

Opening for Children of Bodom will be one of the biggest Cypriot metal acts, BLYND. The band is one of the most respected bands in the local scene and has a strong local fan base while they always manage to leave a lasting impression to their audiences due to their aggressive, raw and energetic performance. BLYND have shared the stage with every other respected Cypriot band, as well as renowned acts such as Sepultura, Anathema, Sodom, Septic Flesh and many more. They are no strangers to worldwide publicity as they have played live in many different countries and appeared in magazine compilations and radio stations all over the world. Along with their sheer hunger and reverence for metal music, BLYND are engaging new crowds in every show.

Rugby: Cyprus beats Bulgaria by record 91 points

This weekend saw the Cyprus National Team travel to defend their unbeaten ENC 2D record in Bulgaria, their previous meeting at Pafos in March last year resulted in a 55-8 victory to the home side. All the pre-match talk was of the various changes that the Bulgarians had made to their coaching and management team, including the recruitment of a new director of rugby who had previously been involved in the French elite squad for 3 Rugby World Cups – expectations were high.

Following a day’s concentrated training, the Moufflons were focused on their aspiration of another win, although they were under no illusions that this was going to be a easy job to achieve. The team travelled from their accommodation to the Bulgarian ground to be met by a very partisan crowd cheering on their national side. Following the anthems, a minute’s silence was excellently observed by all as a sign of respect for the recent passing of a member of the Bulgarian Rugby Federation.

The whistle blew to signal the start of the game and it was obvious from the start that the Bulgarians had been inspired by the recent changes to both management and players. The forward momentum was soon rewarded by a snap drop goal by the home side’s fly half. There were some ominous signs in the opening exchanges with the large Bulgarian pack constantly on a front foot pounding the Cypriot defence. However, against the play, deep in their own half, the Cypriot fly half Andy Binikos made a break to release the back line, which saw Renos Ioannides run the length of the pitch and pass to Matt King who scored under the posts, converted by Holden. Despite this early break, the visiting side had to defend strongly at the breakdown and whilst a number of penalties were conceded, the Bulgarians were unable to convert this pressure into points with a missed penalty kick attempt. Wave after wave of driving maul were spoilt and stopped in their tracks and options were slowly running out for the home side.

Eventually, the Moufflons set piece began to dominate with the hard work of the tight five in the scrum and the Antoniades brothers dominating in the lineout, time after time the platform was set for a further 5 first-half tries which featured a hatrick by Matt King with a try a piece for Reno Ioannides, Chris Thoma and Marcus Holden who managed to convert 5 of these 6 tries.

Half time score – Bulgaria 3 – Cyprus 40.

With mistakes identified, the Moufflons refocused their efforts and began to dominate in all passages of play, Bulgarian heads began to drop and the home crowd fell silent; the Cypriot back line rewarded the hard work of the forward pack with numerous breaks but it was prop, Kiki Vatikiotis who got on the scorecard first in the second half. This was soon followed by Matt King’s 4th try, both tries were converted by Holden. A number of changes were made including 2 exciting young prospects for the future; Luke Frixou (who follows his father Felix’s footsteps in representing the Moufflons) and Stylianos Theoklitou-Panagiotou making their debut with a welcome return for Dervis Devron and Constantinos Constantinides; bringing fresh legs to the hard working forward pack. Time after time, gaps were exploited and great support play by forwards and backs alike allowed a further 6 tries to be scored, Ioannides adding a further 3 to his tally together with George Antoniades, George Agathocleous and Marcus Holden. Holden was able to convert 7 of the 8 tries, an excellent kicking display for the afternoon. With 3 minutes remaining on the clock the referee blew the final whistle on what was an outstanding display from all 22 players that were involved.

A game that featured some excellent running by the backs, coupled with the hard work of the forward pack and an outstanding defensive display with no tries conceded. With 2 games remaining, Cyprus continue their progress, another bonus point win. We now look forward to the much awaited home game against Greece on 26 May 2012, Pafiakos Stadium, Kick Off 5pm – hope to see you there!!
