I have gone through some rough and tough times these past few months...but i'm back! I feel better! My spirit is in tact and i'm ready to get back to sewing and crafting!!!

A few months back, i decided that i love awesome necklines because they compliment my shape, so i went and brought up all the patterns i could find with great necklines and this is one of them. Of course most of them are Vogue, because that's what was on sale at the time. and this is just one of the one's i chose first.

I will NOT be doing a pattern review because this dress has been reviewed over 10 times and that, in my opinion, is enough for anyone to get some input on a pattern!

For this dress i used a tan ponte that i brought from JoAnn's back in the summer time on an outing with my niece. I believe this is my first time working with Ponte fabric but it's really no different that a jersey knit, just more stable, less stretch. I love the feel of it and will absolutely be buying more of it, i like that it's kinda heavy so i can do more dresses and not necessarily be too cold in the winter.

I saw that a previous reviewer on PatternReview, used this pattern to make a shirt, so i think i will try that and maybe make one more of these in a different color. Y'all know I'm obsessed with having 2 of everything! lol

I have got so much catching up to do..but now is not the time because the Raven's are playing the final playoff game and it sounds like it's getting good! gotta go....

Vogue 1219 Donna Karan Collection...UPDATE!

it's coming along i guess! I didn't have much sewing time last weekend and this weekend might be the same but thought i would keep track of my progress.

I cut out all my pieces, did some basting, made my collar and pleats. Most of it is pinned together just for a quick look. When i know I'm not going to sew for a few days in the middle of a project i like to look at it.

This dress is up next ! I realize we are going into fall, but this particular pattern doesn't have a lot of pieces and since my sewing time is limited this weekend between my dress and my niece's homecoming dress...Vogue 1219 it is!!

I hoping to have it finished by tomorrow evening, so we shall see! Well i'm off to see what others did with this pattern, get any pointers, hints, tips, etc. that may be on patternreview !

Hope you all are having a fabulous weekend!

2nd Dress from Vogue 1241 Kay Unger Designer

I really enjoyed making this dress so i made it twice and cut out a third! The third is a olive green sateen. have i mentioned that i have fallen in love with sateen?

I also took advantage of the Vogue pattern sale at Hancock Fabrics, along with my Niece.

While shopping for a pattern for her home coming dance next month, i picked up some knock out patterns, mostly vogue and some awesome winter fabric!

Since i have mostly sewn for children in the past, i guess i hadn't noticed how expensive fall/winter fabrics are ! so i will be starting super early next year, and looking for sales and specials !!

You would know i could go put my fingers on some wool suiting and be soooo sticker shocked! but on the flip side, suits are very expensive these days!

I haven't sewn much in the past two weeks, with my kids back from summer vacations etc and school starting with new schedules and whatnot's but i plan to get some time in real soon with some new suits to boot!

So until then....have a blast! crafting!!!!

My Finished Vogue 1241 Kay Unger Dress

I absolutely love this dress! The style, the final fit, the fabric and the color..IMHO...are all on point for me!

It turned out absolutely fantastic. I received many many compliments on it, it gave me great confidence in wearing it, and most people couldn't believe i made it myself !

I haven't made "a lot" of garments for myself, as when i was sewing for profit, i did children's clothing almost exclusively. So now it's my turn and i can't find enough time to sew up everything i always wanted to!

So i never got around to purchasing a dress form for myself, for many reasons. The price of them being a major factor, and finding one used was hopeless. I did, for a moment, venture down the avenue of the duct tape body double, but quickly realized that i would never be satisfied with the overall look of it.

So i had been looking for one, high and low, very skeptical about this purchase in general, but finally bit the bullet. And a week before me birthday decided i had to have one. So i found a seller on ebay, which i still support even though i don't sell there anymore, and i made my purchase on tuesday. On thursday, this arrived.....

I am so happy i took the leap and purchased her..Sabrina...my alter ego body double. her measurements are perfect so there is no need for adjustments, etc. and i can't wait to adorn her in all my fabulous fabrics!!!!

oh yeah, from the previous post on this same pattern, I mentioned that i had planned on removing a few inches from the back seam, so i did. I removed a 1/2 inch from each side of the back seam and also from each side seam and it turned out GREAT!

my zipper install was also great, on the third time! I don't know where i am sometimes, but i am quickly starting to remember some things, NOT to do when i am in the middle of garment creation. Not to sew when i'm sleepy or tired, not to sew after i have had a cocktail (or 2) and not to sew when i am not overall focused! I really can not hold a telephone conversation, watch a movie and all that other jazz while i am trying to sew ! I guess multitasking needs to stay at the office!

So until next time, have a fantastic time crafting !

oh, and the thought of glass fussing is re-entering the creative side of my brain. I was unpacking another box this week and found lots of my glass fusing equipment. I remember my kiln went up, so i would have to replace it, but i'm thinking i have way too much raw glass and other equipment to just walk away from that hobby altogether, so stay tuned!! lol

i know, way too many hobby and not enough day to cover them!

It has a pleated neckline with an overlapping bodice, front and back mid-section gathers, which brings attention to my flat stomach and it's very shapely silhouette shows that i do have some shape..it's just small! i love it.

For this first run, I choose a red sateen fabric, which i absolutely love (see my pencil skirt entry)..note to self order more Sateen in various colors!!!
In my stash i have a few more pieces of sateen from that order in maybe two colors but i can see this is becoming one of my favorites..paired with a blazer i could wear this as a set, well into the winter months. Especially when i start adding the lining.
This sateen has the weight of a medium denim, but in fabulous colors and with some stretch! I sews well, washing well without fading and can be used for various types, styles and seasons of garments.

On this particular garment, I did not line it and i did not alter the pattern in any way. I cut the size 8 pattern, but i think when i install the zipper i am going to take out about an inch from the back seam and before i cut again i will remove 1/2 inch from each side seam. I want it to fit just as it does on this hanging mannequin.

After the last two creations and not being very pleased with either of them, i needed this pick me up! Now in hindsight, i think i may have been too hard on myself, after all it has been almost 2 yrs since i have truly sewn and i missed it sooooo much! I couldn't even wait to get my room all setup and ready for creating! lol

But anyway, this dress is fantastic and had i had the red invisible zipper that i thought i purchased, i would have modeled it myself. But that just gives me a reason to go back to Joann's today! But this time, I'm going with a list!!

Since i pretty much only sew and blog on the weekend, I figured i would share my garment, now, rather than later...since next saturday is my special birthday!!!I will be 41 yrs young, I am so happy to have accomplished that, but more importantly, it will be the first time in almost 10 yrs. that i have celebrated my day ALONE...when i say alone... i mean, not sharing my birthday with anyone that i know!!! My ex-husband and I share the same birthday! I know, I know..it sounds cute and all, but after a while it's not so cute anymore! But anywho...I'm having a party...just a few of my friends (that's all you really need right!) and i don't plan on doing any sewing next weekend! I'm just hoping to have a great time, and be able to attend a wedding the next day!

In other news....I recieved this in the mail yesterday (gotta love the FEDEX drivers, right?)

Some might ask...what is that mess? Well it is my first fabric order from Fashion Fabric Club...in a good long time! so i am so excited! I know, I know...my friends are thinking..she needs more fabric like a turtle needs peanuts!@#$% but my fellow seamstress understand me...don't you??? LOL
I brought mostly ITY Jersey knits...because I LOVE THEM SO MUCH! A few boucles for suits and 2 crepe de chine for blouses or something! i don't know why i don't match all this stuff up when i'm ordering? it would make it so much easier!

UPCOMING GOALS:
1. to make a few more of this Vogue 1241 (at least 2 more unlined and then 2 more lined with jackets)
2. find a TNT dress for my ITY Jersey Knit (long sleeve, that i can wear with tights..maybe this?)
3. line up a suit pattern (3 piece) for this beautiful boucle fabric (Sort of like this one but lined )
4. finish the curtains for my craft room
5.finishing unpacking fabrics and sewing room boxes (c that black, red & white boucle...i already own this...had i done #5 before this purchase i would have known that! )
6. figure out why i have an obsession with clothes?? (it's hereditary for sure...ask brother & father)
7. sort thru the shoes so i can donate what i don't want...see what i do want and stack boxes back neatly! (in my mind, this justifies my upcoming shoe purchases from 1 of my favorite brands! )
8. put coats in dry cleaners....it takes forever to get them back!!! (I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER COAT...EVER! but i will make this Vogue Coat pattern i brought) c blog entry...
9. Sort through fall / winter work wear for things that need to go to cleaners, needs repairs, or just needs to be donated...do the jeans too (I have 107 pairs of jeans and have not worn a pair to work in over a yr. oh, not counting my denim suits of course)
10. finally get completely unpacked in my home! (living between two houses, SUCKS ! (which goes back to the disaster of remodeling entry)
11. stop here or this list will be outta control!!! lol

well...time to do my Sunday Chores and get ready for the week, not to mention...the start of school is approaching...so at some point this week or next...i need to start getting prepared!!! We have to run errands today and it's raining...and i hate driving in the rain...(other drivers suck) i soooo wish my 17 yr old had a license!!!

until next time...Have a Great Day Crafting!

Vogue 1258...may fall by the way-side!

I started on this Vogue Pattern yesterday, with the hopes of finishing it today...NOT. This pattern's directions are so freaking overly complicated! I can't figure out if it's me or the actual writing of the pattern.

The first mistake i made was the fabric selection. I hadn't realized this fabric was so sheer. This problem was solved when a friend came by and suggested that i not "kick it to the curb" and that i get some sort of spanks (or likeness) to wear under it. Now don't get me wrong...the thought of a slip, had crossed my mind, but i haven't worn a slip in years...so i really don't know what out there or available, so when she said this my first thought was size! So we shall see if that type of thing is availble for the thin woman.

The next issue was the tab sleeves. I didn't really care for them in the first place, but when i read the instructions for attaching them, i scrapped them altogether. Not that i mind doing things--Their Way--i just felt like the sleeve could have been achieved using a much easier method. Which i had all worked out in my mind, but decided to just not go with a sleeve at all.

Then i get rolling, putting all my pieces together, matching every pain-staking blue chaulk line for the front pleats and all the notches and i'm starting to feel good about this dress...when all of a sudden, i notice this snag type of hole like spot...in the back, where there is absolutly no way of hidding it!!! so now i'm on FIRE ! Not only did i spend all my weekend sewing time on this dress...but i had a plan for this sexiness!!

So now she is just hanging there! waiting for me to decide if i will continue forward with her. Once my visitors left, i felt much better about moving forward, since we talked about it and i had a second opinion. She made me feel much better about the whole project and i am thankful!

But i had noticed that this is the second project in a row, that i have not been pleased with so i think before i actually decide on wheather to move forward...i should make something that i know will be rewarding!! Let me see if i have a TNT around here that i can whip up, or maybe i should make myself a cricut card!! lol

I read all the reviews i could find. Some were good, some not so great...but before i could take the $1300 plunge on a Profession System, i decided i would try this one, with a smaller investment and see if i even liked a true steam iron.
Read my original post from 2009 when i purchased this puppy!

Well unfortunately..it's going south on me! BUT I think i really got my money's worth !
It's been 3 years and i think i paid a tad bit more than the $169 it's retailing for now...but YES, I would do it again.

Which is why, I'm now going for this iron:
The Expert Steamer (Rowenta DG8030 Expert Steam Generator)....I'm checking on the Rowenta site and it looks like they are out of stock so i guess i will be trying to shop locally or online at a different merchant. I really wanted to just search for a coupon, run up to Joann's and come home with an iron today. Because unfortunately, you don't know you need a new iron until it's just gone!

I may try and see if i can get the broken one fixed by Rowenta. It appears that maybe i have left it running and over heating too many times which has "melted" the ring that's used to close it. Sorry i don't know all the technical names for each part, none of that is really that important to me..only that it works and works well when i need it too, which is not the case!

BTW...I was sitting here, with a customer, discussion some alterations, and i just filled it for the day's work, when it suddenly started spitting steam all over the place. Naturally my customer jumped up in a frenzy and was headed towards the door! When she saw i wasn't moving, she stopped and asked..."WTH is that?" I just laughed and said...The death of my iron!!!...

This is a twist front blouse that comes as a wild style selection in the pattern masters boutique software.

I did change a few options such as I removed some of the ease..(next time remove all), removed all the darts...and i also removed the back zipper.

This was a very easy top to make and could very easily be someone's go to summer top for when you wake in the morning and need something cute to wear.

It is constructed of only 3 pieces, not including the armhold facings, if you chose to use that method. And i used my serger for the whole top which means from cutting board to finishing, it could certainly be done in under an hour. BTW...I use two sergers...1 for the inside and the other for finishing!

All and all it came out like i wanted it too...BUT...I don't like the style as much as i thought i would. I love knit tops, especially those with some sort of bodice area design (this compliments my small figure) and those that are comfortable like a t-shirt! But this particular top, hangs too low and the knot i could see myself fusing with the whole time i'm wearing it ! I like my clothing to fit well, which gives me confidence and I want to feel that way EVERYDAY!! so i will not be wearing this top in this condition, ever !

I was just in love with this fabric, but unfortunately...that was all i had of it and it was barely enough to create this top...don't know what i was thinking about??

I think it's a great top, the pattern was fine with my options and it turned out great...I just made a bad decision on choosing it for myself!

So she will be hanging in my studio and maybe one day, if she is not gifted, i will come up with a solution and re-visit this garment. Or maybe by the grace of god..i will miraculously develop some boobs, @ age 40 that would make me feel more comfortable wearing this top ! ! lol

Conclusion:

Just because i'm thin doesn't mean i can wear everything !! (i don't do stretch pants either!)

Until my next project is complete....have a great one!!

PMBx5 Jumpsuit w. Chocolate Cherry Vodka Mini Cupcakes !!!

I used Pattern Master's Boutique version 5 to create this jumpsuit and i think it turned out FANTASTIC !
I used the sundress style jumpsuit,
Closure: Back Zipper
Neckline Front: Straight
Neckline Back: Jeweled
Front Dart: Blouson
Pant Style: Classic
Leg Style: Straight

I doubled all the ease measurements. I also added inseam pockets and made a 5" belt that i folded in half.

What i haven't done is hemmed the pants. I wasn't sure exactly what shoes i would wear, but i think i figured it out now.

The back dips down a little lower than the front.

This has to be the easiest thing i have ever sewn together in my life. REALLY ! ! and i'm thinking it's so baggy, even if you make a mistake, who can tell, REALLY?

The only thing i think i might change for next time, and i am certain there will be a next time...is no front and back seams. Since this was my first time making it, and i had this fabric laying out for something, anything, i decided to use it..but had i put some thought into it, i would have tried to match up the print at the seams. I think it turned out fine, because it's such a busy print, but next time, if i go with a print, i will remove the front and back seams so that the print / pattern isn't broken.

No let's talk about comfort for a minute...you will not find any other garment as comfortable as this, for going to the park on a hot summer's day ! really! I can not risk having mosquito bites all up and down my legs..my arms, i'm okay with..i cover those up at work with sweaters, etc...but it's skirt time of year and who wants to see all that leg..bitten all up ! lol

so all in all i am happy with my...I woke up this morning thinking what am i going to wear to this picnic jumper !

I try to smile sometimes, really I do!!!

oh and BTW I whipped these up, to take to the picnic in the park!!!

So...i get asked out on a second date..waited 5 months for him to ask for the 1st date..but it's cool...i like things slow!! He said we were going to a picnic in the park...I asked what did we need to bring..SILENCE !! So I offered a dessert, since i figured this last minute, one would hope that they had all the food work out! So he said he likes chocolate...ok ! I ran with it!!

These little lovelies are mini chocolate cupcakes...(I used Cherry flavored Pinnacle Vodka instead of the water from a regular box cake mix) and mixed in Cherry Berry Puckers with the frosting then topped them with a maraschino cherry and a Hershey's kiss! note to self...next time use a full size cupcake if you want to be all fancy with the toppings ! With the left over batter, i made a bundt cake using one of my favorite Nordic molds. they taste fabulous!

I had someone fix me some Ciroc cupcakes one time and my friends said they couldn't taste the alcohol, so i figured i would do my own thing this time! and YES you can taste it in mine! I have so many wonderful ideas for Adult Cupcakes!! lmao and i'm not even really a drinker!

Well until my next adventure...Happy Sewing...and don't eat too many cupcakes!!!

...Butterrick 5559 ='s NO SHOES !!!

So you know what that means.....SHOE SHOPPING (Turquoise Jones-H Patent Round Toe Platform Pump) I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE SHOES...I really think there's a shoe thief among us ! I know i have some really cute wedged heal sandals, with a funky cute out heel, in this exact color, and i have searched high and low for with no success ! This is the second time i have gone to reach for that particular shoe and can not find it!
I rather not purchase shoes on the Internet but this pair caught my attention as did the one at the link above...because i need for them to be just the right shade...not always matchy match, but i know the right shade when i see it and that's not always possible to do over the Internet!

oh well ! guess i can't have every color !!! yeah right, i sure can try !!! hahaha

Today's project was to start Butterick 5559 and i think i got plenty accomplished ! Besides cutting out and stitching my pin tucks on the front bodice and front skirt pieces, I have also cut out both back pieces and started to mark the skirt back ! so YES...I'm on a roll !

I adore this color and think it looks great against my skin, so i think i might wear this to a wedding in August ? Although pink is my happy color, and that's what i would want to wear to give off HAPPY VIBES to the bride and groom, i think i will be quite happy in this color and style of dress, so that will bring much confidence to me !!! You can't please all the people all the time, why not please yourself...and besides they know i wish them much happiness !

Again, this dress has been review numerous times on Pattern Review so i won't bother to re-hash the same story with my adventure. No problems to speak of...the crazy placement of the darts, yet the beauty and wear-ability of this dress is awesome!
I will however add that i am making my dress from Polyester.....YES POLYESTER....I love the stable stretch (is there such a thing?) and warmth that polyester provides. I stay on the chilly side...yet with polyester the more you move the warmer you get ! so i get the best of both worlds, i don't look crazy with a sweater on in the summer, but I'm not chilly when i go into air conditioned buildings etc. so i can go sleeveless, which i really like to do, when I'm not chilly ! I know it's complicated~~~Right!

....taking a break can be a good thing !

...so the room is coming along nicely, but i have to admit...i'm getting a little frustrated....BUT, it's my own fault !!! I was doing great, getting the room in order, then i had the bright idea of sewing something...then that turned into making a pattern and sewing something...then that turned into...may as well finish a UFO that's been sitting around for a while ! lol
Sooooo the curtains have been sitting by the machine, hoping for some miracle to get them sewn and a few more odds and ends are on stand-by...but mean while, i have been happily sewing along to create these....

I made this very trendy styled knit top from Butterick's pattern #5495. I didn't and don't plan on doing a pattern review for this top because there are already many of them listed and to be honest, i don't have anything meaningful to add from my experience with sewing this top, except for the fact that i removed 1 1/2 inches from the front shoulder piece of the pattern to move the center V up. I also added a tack stitch just at the center, to guarantee overlap. All and all i really like this top, it's very few pieces, puts together fairly easy when you follow the directions, which it is rated EASY, and in solid colors could flow very well into any wardrobe. and it can absolutely be dressed up or worn casual with jeans. I love it, but wouldn't want too many of the same style so i may make 1 more in the longer tunic length.

This dress was made from a pattern i created using my newly updated PMBx5 Software. I just love it, but i wish i could find it again! lol I went into the software just before writing this post and could not retrieve the pattern ! I just wanted to refresh my memory so that i could share which options i choose and I'll be dag on, i can't find it ! So I will be spending some time this weekend getting re-acquainted with PMB. And BTW, i just realized, since i have not been able to access the forum to get caught up, that the Celebrations piece of the software was not available to update? I didn't use that piece much, but i thought it was invaluable at those times when i needed to create a gown or "fancy" dress. I haven't played around with the new versions enough to see if maybe those bits and pieces unique to Celebrations have been incorporated somewhere else..but i shall see and i am really hoping so because so far as i can tell, none of the older version are working well on my WIN7 machine, let alone my preferred MAC machine ! But anywho, I love my draped front dress, i am very pleased with the fabric i chose, not too sure about the length, but i did add some elastic to the side for ruching when i didn't want to wear a belt and this particular length always works well for me on my jean days as i am a big big fan of longer tunic length tops! not sure why, though, there are not the best choice for my figure !

And last but not least...my UFO from maybe 2 yrs again...that's a shame and oh how time flys...but i created this patten for sure in PMB4 and again can not retrieve the pattern to give a description of the options i choose. SORRY..I promise to do better in the future. This is my second dress from this pattern. I'll have to check back through my blogg to see if i posted details else where or not and will certainly link to it here if i did. But i love this style dress ! I think it complements my figure well..it's a nice all around knit dress that can be worn to work with a blazer, as a party dress or even for a night out on the town ! And i absolutely love the fabric and have NO CLUE where i purchased it from, although i believe it is a ITY fabric as i love them and haven't found a reason not to use them although i know a many of sewist who don't really care for them, i'm just not sure why !

So i'm off now...to either unpack and organize more in my sewing room, or cut out this beautiful knit dress pattern that i have the fabric picked out and laying on my sewing table just begging to be started ! not sure which one i will do, but hopefull i will get something done and that's all that counts in my world !! until next time....have a creative day !!

Updates...

These are the goodies i received in the mail this week ! A few patterns I already knew i wanted and the magazines and catolog as well.

I thumbed threw the catolog and ooh boy i can't wait to get started. I really don't know how i will find the time to get in all the garments that i have seen that i am just dying to create ! So i figured if i try to start now...maybe just maybe i can get at least one of each pattern done that i have my eye set on !

Some times i wonder if it isn't just easier to go an purchase clothing...then i think about all the alternations i have to pay for, all the searching for just the right pieces and all the mall, store, boutique & internet searching involved and i just shake my head and pull out the fabric ! lol

I have also started to update my Wild Ginger software !!! yeah !! I hadn't realized just how long it had been and it makes me sad to think about it ! so far so good..i was able to update Boutique, Curves and Child's Play, but not Tailor Made or Celebrations. I sent an email to customer services about the PMT, but it looks like they no longer have celebrations or maybe the name has changed, not 100% sure what's going on with that and i can't log into the forum because i have long ago forgotten all that information, but if their customer service is still the same, which i'm sure it is...they will get me all straighten out within a matter of days ! I don't expect too much before monday or tuesday though so i'll keep you updated. I can't wait to play with those new programs as well.

I really don't know how i am going to manage with now working outside the home and all the crafty ideas i have flowing through my head...just doesn't seem like there will be enough time in a day to get all my wants in!!!

Have a great Saturday everyone !!
So i found these pink lamps at Marshall's. They are quickly becoming one of my favorite stores for this project of re-establishing my sewing space. I guess i should start calling it my craft room, because most people that i know now, didn't know that i sew ! haha which is very funny to me !

And this was the final result! I think it turned out fabulous ! not too much, just enough to make it match the rest of the room !

These are painted canvas boards that i picked up from Joann's over the weekend ! i painted them with a prettiest bubble gum pink and decided to use the Forever Young Cartridge to decorate them along with some other paper craft items that i had in stash.

This is the end result ! I love them. Let me just state for the record that the wall they hang on currently is where my fabric closets will be, so for now i just haphazardly hung them up there to take a preview. i know they are not straight and i really don't like the spacing, but for now i don't have to look at blank walls.

This is a cork board that i have had, i just wanted it to match my current theme so i purchased and covered the framing with pink zebra masking tape sold at Joann's, of course !!

This is the space that i am working with ! My formal living room, yes...i said it! I don't have much company and when i do it's not formal enough to need a formal living room, so I have converted it into my Crafting Space !!!

This is a second view !
Oh and i was so happy to find some Pink Ribbon Fabric at Joann's while looking for curtain fabric ! The young lady employee commented on the pink NESS of my shopping chart and i told her that pink has become my "Happy" color over the past 5 or so yrs and that this was my way of supporting Breast Cancer Awareness !
I love it !!!!

I have soooo much stuff to do and so many ideas for my space, i'm just overflowing !!! but i have to be quick about because those winter fashions aren't going to sew themselves !!!!

Have a fabulous day everyone !!!

So Yesterday I starting getting the "NEW" sewing room in order! Sifting thru what i have, what i need and what i want ! I was having such a great time getting re-acquainted with all my things, i decided to make a quick project, and here it is!
Since the theme of my office desk is all pink, in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness (cause i can never seem to do the walks, so i purchase a lot of "PINK" items when i can) i will add this little trinket to my work area !
One of my co-workers, who i frequently talk to about creative things, informed me that Pink is a Happy Color in terms of color therapy, which i had not known. I do research colors before i just go willy nilly painting rooms, but since i have never had a pink room, that was good information for me to know. Maybe this is why i have been going pink crazy over the past year or so! GO PINK !!!

I'm traveling out this morning to pick up some supplies to continue with the re-org project in the sewing room. I should have lots of photos later this evening with the many smaller projects it's taking to make my room fabulous !!

Have a great Sunday!

I'm Back...

stay tuned ! finally getting all setup for crafting, sewing and embroidery !
I’m not quit sure why i feel like i need these things to function in my studio, i just do!! haha

but i’m almost there just have to collect some more passwords and a few more install and i’m there!

But anywho…i started a few skirts for suits, but i am most proud of my knit sundress in progress…i just need to do the binding and hem and i’m done.

I copy this style from a stretch cotton sundress that has been one of my favorites for yrs. but the neckline is getting a little too worn for me to wear comfortable…

more pictures to come upon completion!!
Since i have not attempted to cut chipboard all my word”books” are actually made from cards stock and this is the start of my mother’s day cards!!!

<img style="border-right-width: 0px;

I do have DS, but quickly jumped ship and headed for SCAL2, which i absolutely love! it’s very similar to the Roland Cut Studio Software that i have been using for our Roland GS-24 for about 6 yrs. now!!
! after countless nights and disgust with having to sew ooh!WEE in grown folks clothing, this is what i came up with! I know that most books on the business of sewing and fashion design recommend using your own name, but i wasn’t quite ready for such a thing since most of my garments were directly marketed @ children, specifically boys. And well, to be honest, most of you know that since the CPSC and the CPSIA new rules, (which i am not against the why, just not so found of the how!) i have been honing my skills in and learning as much as possible in preparation for adult sized clothing.

Many of you, at first thought, are probably thinking, “if you can sew one you can sew the other” which is just NOT TRUE! There are several factors in going from children’s apparel to adult, which i won’t go into but a few to consider are darts, fabrics, linings and just overall bigger projects, in terms of size. but boy, it is really nice to have a break from tees and jeans, with elastic waistbands and bunches of appliqués! well it was nice, anyway! (found a new source for appliqué designs and this girl is awesome and cheap!) see that’s why you should be following me on facebook as well as here!! haha

but any who, i hope you continue to follow me as i make this transition to support these fabulous passion of mine!!! don’t forget to update your bookmarks and feed! and hopefully this won’t be too hard of a task for me to accomplish quickly and get back to the business of sewing!!

Trina

Butterick Retro 4512 Halter Dress

This dress was an absolute breeze to put together, but a PITB to get on!! I really thought it was me the 1st time i made this pattern, but now this time I realize it is not me and must be the “retro” nature of the dress!

If you are not super skinny, and i mean skinnier than me, than this is not the straight out the envelope pattern for you.

The first time i made, i think the size 4, which is normally my pattern size, this time i made size 12. Now let’s just talk for a moment! The size 4, i just thought okay maybe i gained a little weight, right around the tummy, i mean i do have a 4 yr old, it wouldn’t be unheard of to gain some middle section weight. So i gifted that one to a cousin.

Now this time i actually looked at the finished garment measurements and was highly surprised myself to be cutting out a size 12 anything! but i did and i even did some test fits along the way and everything was going smooth.

okay so i am all finished up, because really this dress is like 4 pieces. I followed the directions word for word this time, only because i felt like i messed up somewhere the last time. But let me tell you how glad i am that i used a stretch poplin that i don’t know what to say!! I had been holding on to this fabric since spring waiting for the right garment to make and then i decided on this!

okay so finally i have installed my zipper and i am ready to determine button placement for the halter back so i strip down to try it on!!

Okay i couldn’t even zip the dang thing up!! i was floored!!! laughing that is!

so the conclusion that i have come to is that this pattern is for the super skinny or to be used as a guide to draft your own, which is what i am going to do. I absolutely love how the dress flows and i love how it looks on me, with the exception of the low bust points, but i can fix that when i draft my own.

Overall i like the design of the garment, but not the drafting of the pattern.

and again i have not really been in the picture taking mode! taking pics soon after completion of a garment is out of the question! most times i am finishing up late at night or in my pj’s and there is no way i can muster up enough energy to do the makeup / hair thing! then when i am getting fully dressed, face done, hair right, it’s generally in the mornings before work and i just don’t have time to be taking pictures.

I promise i will find a happy medium and put more effort into my PR pics as i do for my auction ones! i mean i did spend the money and the time to learn photography basics may as well use them.

well i know i said this last post but i am hoping the next finished garments will be fall, unless i find some UFO laying around that i just have to finish up!!
