ToiletFinder our first location based web application built on the OpenFinder framework launched today. ToiletFinder allows visitors to share, rate and locate publicly accessible toilets.

The launch event was hosted at Moray College UHI and attended by a range of people from local businessmen, the local MSP, media and health professionals. After the official launch, Moray College UHI in collaboration with OpenFinder held a public drop in session to help raise awareness of ToiletFinder amongst the local population and answer any questions they have about ToiletFinder.

ToiletFinder started as an undergraduate project for two of our founders while studying at the University of the Highlands and Islands. Working in partnership with Professor Grant Cumming from NHS Grampian it was built in around 10 weeks. This first version of ToiletFinder was launched with Moray College UHI and NHS Grampian to gauge reaction and opinion on it in April 2010.

Since then OpenFinder have been working on the version launched today. ToiletFinder has been completely rewritten since April, with this version of ToiletFinder there has been a large focus on usability allowing users to quickly find or add toilets within the minimum amount of hassle. Users also have the ability to sign in to ToiletFinder using either their Google Account or Facebook Account; this further aids the user experience. ToiletFinder is accessible from your desktop as well as through web browsers on smartphones allowing you to use ToiletFinder on the go.

We hope you enjoy using ToiletFinder! Visit ToiletFinder today..

This event was very interesting and we met some exciting people doing some great work.

Due to the geography of the UHI network and its partners most of the research is based on renewable energy and marine life. There is also a lot of research being done on areas important to the local economy such as agronomy, farming and marine life. Research within the UHI network is being carried out by both students and lecturers from a range of backgrounds. Many UHI partners had research going on from ERI (Environmental Research Instute) to SAMS (Scottish Associate for Marine Science) to more traditional higher education establishments like Inverness College UHI and Perth College UHI.

The event was hosted by Moray College UHI, Elgin.

P4 Digital Healthcare is the delivery of preventative, predictive, personalised and participatory healthcare using distance technologies.

The convention was open to healthcare professionals, industry and patient groups and aimed to explore the rise of P4 digital healthcare.

Being a software development company with some involvement with healthcare professionals and passion for building innovative web solutions, the P4 health concept is exciting for us and we have a lot of fresh ideas. Watch this space.

Although our business operates practically paperless and we don’t ship physical products, this talk was highly interesting. The speaker was Robert Holdway, Co-Founder and Director of Giraffe Innovation, one of the UK’s leading eco experts.

Robert is best known for presenting a TV show for Channel 4 titled, “Dumped”.

I took this excerpt from the Horizon Scotland homepage,

Day to day he runs his own consultancy, Giraffe Innovation, where he advises companies and Governments in the UK and around the world on how to profit from reducing the environmental impact of their business. In 2008 alone, Giraffe’s work has identified savings of more than £100m and 200,000 tonnes of CO2 for clients. Giraffe was listed by The Guardian business pages as one of the 10 brightest independent green businesses in the UK.
I am really enjoying these Horizon Scotland events, they are helping us to look at our business from another angle and will hopefully help us concentrate on producing innovative solutions to new problems.
