McKinsey and Company identified a $280 billion net residential efficiency opportunity in the US over the next ten years, even without developing any new technologies.
State energy efficiency resource standards create a market for energy efficiency that encourages utility companies to run cost-effective efficiency programs. These programs have saved families billions of dollars, and increased America’s energy productivity (fewer kWh of energy needed per dollar of GDP) throughout the last decade.
Opower seeks a Policy and Research Analyst to research and analyze international efficiency and environmental policy, and support the general research activities of our policy team. As Opower looks to expand its international base of clients, the work of the Policy and Research Analyst will be critical to identifying the international targets where Opower’s energy efficiency platform can have the greatest impact on reducing energy waste. Additional work will focus on supporting the Policy and Research team as it seeks to broaden the national public policy appeal of energy efficiency as a clean, cost-effective energy source.
Day-to-day responsibilities of the role will include leading and conducting research, quantitative analysis, and writing arguments in support of behavioral energy efficiency. You will be expected to become an expert in the regulatory landscapes of the countries researched, and assist Opower’s market development team in creating and executing plans to apply Opower’s efficiency savings in those countries. Work products may include presentations, white papers, and op-ed letters.
Examples of projects that the Policy and Research Analyst may lead include:

International Research
: Increasingly, Opower’s energy efficiency services are being sought by international clients. A full understanding of the environmental and efficiency policy in developed markets will help Opower target its product for international expansion.

White Paper on the Impact of Efficiency Policy on Reducing Strain in the Grid
: Utilities and consumers have heavily invested in new technology meant to increase energy efficiency, and drive down the growth of electric demand over time. If successful, these policies should help to avoid the construction of new electricity generation plants, and keep overall electricity rate prices lower. In practice, what has been the effect of efficiency policy on keeping customer rates low?

Responsibilities:

Conduct advanced research and provide insight on the political, regulatory, and legislative landscape in new international markets.
Develop power point presentations, talking points, white papers, and other supporting materials that will be delivered to key public officials and stakeholders in different markets.
Attend external meetings and travel as required to support regulatory efforts.

About You:

The ideal candidate is an analytical thinker with strong interest and background in energy policy and research, who enjoys working in a collaborative environment. The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree from a top University (preferrably in business, economics, environmental studies, or other relevant fields), and two years or more of relevant work experience in politics, advocacy, or consulting. Master's Degree is a plus but not required.

We're looking for designers who are out-of-the-box thinkers, passionate about our mission, excited to move their product through a complete lifecycle, and want to dive in and get their hands dirty.
A portfolio is required. We are looking for case studies of extremely usable, consumer-oriented product design that showcase your UX skills, your design process, and your creativity for solving design challenges.

About You

You have an MS (preferred) in HCI, Design, Computer Science, or related field.
You have at least 6 years of relevant work experience, including fluency with a wide range of design methods and usability principles. You're passionate about UX design and connected to the industry, the latest trends, and best practices.
You've done this before. You've led consumer product design projects from conception to build. You're a pro at storyboarding, UI design, wireframing, prototyping, spec-writing. You never overlook an edge case. You run your own usability sessions and glean insights from interviews.
You're uber creative. You often think of solutions that no one else has considered. Your portfolio inspires us to look at something in a new way.
You're a big-picture thinker. You can connect the dots between strategic business needs and UX design problems.
You can play with others. You can handle projects solo, but thoroughly enjoy collaborating with a partner or a team. You're seasoned at presenting your ideas in various levels of details to team members and key stakeholders.
You can bootstrap it when you need to. You're comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously and thinking out-of-the-box to solve problems in creative ways.
You're excited to be a part of a new design challenge. At Opower, we're defining how to best design for behavioral change towards energy efficiency, and you will be a key part of this effort. We don't expect you to already be an expert in it, but it should get you excited.
Extra credit: Experience with Agile, behavioral science, designing global products.

Responsibilities

You'll own UX design for one or more product areas of the Opower offering. You'll be designing for print, web, mobile, and devices.
You'll participate in the entire design & development process, including close collaboration with scrum teams.

Responsibilities

Own the vision and roadmap for specific mobile products, determine key initiatives to drive the product forward
Document requirements for new mobile product enhancements, consult with UX design, marketing, sales, engineering, and other product managers from concept to release

Understand market needs and user pain points, translate them to product solutions, phase solutions to deliver incremental business value

About You

Experience having delivered excellent products, ideally consumer-facing mobile applications
Familiarity with mobile platforms (iOS, Android, etc) and development languages such as html5, CSS, etc. a major plus
Experience with Agile product management a major plus
Fantastic analytical skills, ability to solve problems quickly, establish frameworks, ability to think on your feet and generalize solutions
Excellent oral and written communication skills, tailored for each of a wide variety of audiences
Minimum education: Bachelor's degree required, top-tier university strongly preferred, MBA nice-to-have
Minimum experience: 3-5 years experience in a software product management role

As the Director of Regulatory Affairs, Europe you will be responsible for determining and executing Opower’s regulatory strategy for Europe. Ensuring that the right policy and regulation is in place is key to our business growth. Opower works with utilities, and engages closely with government officials, regulators, and stakeholders to remove obstacles or promote incentives to advance sales. In this role, you will report to the VP of Regulatory Affairs & General Counsel, and will work closely with Opower’s General Manager for Europe, as well as Opower’s President and co-founder. About You

You live in London or are willing to relocate there.

You are fluent in English and at least one other language spoken in the EU.
You are a professional with at least five years of relevant experience. You have either worked in a business capacity where regulation played a key role, or you are a business minded policy professional.
You have meaningful international experience, preferably in the EU.
You are an excellent strategic thinker and problem solver.
You have great people skills and know how to network.
Energy experience is preferred, but is not required.
An advanced degree in business, law, or policy is a plus, but is not required.
You are comfortable in a low structure environment where change is the norm.
