Ecclesiastes 12.5

As born again Christians we are actually prepared for Eternity! We are! By God’s grace, and we say, Amen!

We are also prepared, and equipped, to share the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ with people around us. I pray the thought below will encourage us as Christians, and as winners of souls.

The following words are said to be written on the tomb of an Anglican bishop (1100AD) in the crypts of Westminster Abbey:

When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world.

“But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.”

Acts 6.4

These are the words of the twelve apostles during the time they needed to be focused and organized as ministers, preachers, and pastors!

I claimed this verse years ago for my work as a pastor, and maybe you’re not a pastor, but you should claim this verse as a born again Christian!

“But we will give ourselves continually to prayer,

and to the ministry of the word.”

God will bless your prayer and desire. God will bless your time in His Word!

“they are wise to do...”?

Jeremiah 4.22

We read this verse in Jeremiah and it sounds great doesn’t it, “they are wise to do...”?

It sounds like everything is going the way it should! It seems like these people have it all together, and “they” have some “wisdom”, and “they” are “doing” something! Yes, it sounds great. It sounds positive. It seems they have confidence in what they are doing! Thank the Lord for people who are doing something!!!

So what are they wise in doing?

“they are wise to do evil,”

“The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable”

Proverbs 10.32

It’s great if we KNOW what to say!

This verse should encourage us as born again Christians that we can know what to say!

Obviously, we need to be careful! “In the multitude of words there wanteth not (lacketh not) sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.” (Proverbs 10.19)

“And lead us not into temptation,”

Matthew 6.13

Think about it!

The above phrase is part of what we commonly call the “Lord’s Prayer.” It was to be an example of things we should pray about.

We should pray this: “…lead us not into temptation,”

We all face testing. The Lord does test us, to see how we will react - but we can avoid a lot of trouble if we will pray: “…lead us not into temptation,”.

“...and enjoy it...”

Joshua 1.15

Some people would never believe the word “enjoy” was in the Bible!

Some people believe the Bible is only about the “don’ts” of life. You know, “Don’t do this”, and “Don’t do that”. Some people think the Bible is all about the “can’ts”. “Can’t this”, and “Can’t that” and “Can’t the other!”

Impossible that the Bible would use the word “enjoy”!

“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: ”

Hebrews 10.24

We usually think of the word “provoke” in the negative sense of “to make angry”, but it has a positive sense, “to move, or to stir up” in a good way! I think the following story gives a great illustration of Mums – who are faithfully encouraging, stirring up their children in good ways!

Wishing to encourage her young son's progress on the piano, a mother took the small boy to a Paderewski concert. After they were seated, the mother spotted a friend in the audience and walked down the aisle to greet her.

2 Kings 6.17

Do you ever try and try... and try - to help someone see something that they just can’t seem to see?

Of course we do - if we have anything to do with serving the Lord – just like the situation with Elisha here.

We must understand the part we play in the lives of people by simple PRAYER. (Because God does hear it!)

That was all Elisha DID here. It was ALL he could DO. “And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see.”

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

2 Timothy 4:3-4

God gave us the Bible, and it is full of stories. True stories of God’s love and man’s need for God’s love. Stories of how sinners came to an understanding of their sin and their need. Stories of sinners who chose to turn to a loving God in repentance and faith. It’s the greatest story ever told, because it is the story of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But people get tired of that story. They get tired of the Bible.

Even if it is the BEST thing for Christians, just like milk is for newborn babies(1 Peter 2.2-3)

“...a feeble folk...”

Proverbs 30.26

This verse is speaking about “conies”. Conies are little creatures like rabbits, also known as rock badgers.

The Lord tells us, “The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks:”

When the Bible here says “feeble”, we know what “feeble” means – it means weak i.e. not strong!

That reminds me of the Jews when they were rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem with Nehemiah, and their enemies called them “feeble” – trying to ridicule them and discourage them! They said, “What do these feeble Jews?” (Nehemiah 2.4)
