New origami podcast, deeper and darker face of the d'n'b. Packed in this 60 minutes journey are tunes that bring some darkness while spreading the light at the same time. Felt like this podcast should be different from the previous one since drum'n'bass has some much to offer.

It is best to be listened on proper speakers/headphones to catch all the little sounds and touches that really make this podcast.

Bonobo - The North Borders

Ninja Tune's megastar Bonobo comes back with massive new, 5th full-length album called "The North Borders" on, of course, Ninja Tune.
Last album "Black Sands" was a must-have for any electronic music lover and the story with the story behind the new one is no different.

The first track, "First Fires" forecasts deep, emotional journey into chilled world of Bonobo's music welcoming you with warm vocals from Grey Reverend, intriguing strings and his characteristic, ever-present synths.

Next track (Emkay) right away brought "Eyesdown" from the last album to my mind. I guess even if I didn't know better I would have guessed it's something from Ninja Tune with a heavy pointer to Mr Simon Green.

Afterwards it gets a little bit more dancefloor-oriented and that is all due to the first single - again, first thought was "1009" - my personal favorite. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that Bonobo has run out of ideas or has stopped developing his style - au contraire. This just proves he has mastered his unique style and the analogy to 1009 just stands as for the 'dance' backbone for both of the albums.

Next couple of tracks are just straight forward chillout 2-steps featuring young and talented vocalists, from which I think "Jets" quite stands out. After that many chills it's for a change and it comes with "Don't wait" - downtempo bliss, sounding almost like it had came out from Four Tet's studio.

"Ten Tigers" style-wise goes even further beyond 'Black Sands' to older days and albums, but with modern twist and extremely good composition.

Two last tracks being "Transits" and "Pieces" just complete the charm and hour long journey into the depths of electronic music. It is definitely safe to say that over the years Bonobo hasn't lost his touch. The trend of collaborating with massively talented vocalists and producing 2-step bombshells continues and seems to be only getting stronger.

After quite some time, origamitracks comes back strong with a brand new podcast
Ii is brand new and not only by the number, it's completely new music-wise. The podcast had always been a reflection of my current moods and music tastes, so yeah, I'm into d'n'b right now. Big time.

The mix starts kinda slow but gently progresses into some atmospheric d'n'b followed by some serious head nodders , only just to come back to gentle, vocal liquid.

Mikky Ekko - Pull Me Down (Emperor Remix)

Uprising drum'n'bass producer Emperor brings a throbbing, heavy-hitting rework of Mikky Ekko’s magnetic ‘Pull Me Down’.
Leaving the clammy effects in tact, Emperor adds electro shocks of glitchy effects,
wiping away the wholesomeness of Ekko’s original and replacing it with curious piano key heartbeats, auto-tuned vocal pleas, and dripping R&B basslines. This remix goes miles away from his own productions, which only proves his credentials as a all-around electronic producer.

It's a really unique track this, I am especially in love with the auto-tuned vocals, which give the track even more unique envelope. One of those that just stick on your playlist for a very long time.

Uppermost - Different

Lately music styles have been juggled around here, so let's juggle some more. No names, no genres, just yet another amazing piece of music.
Bahdad Nejatbakhshe who goes by the name Uppermost (we should really thank him for that, cause obviously his name doesn't go easy on the tongue) hails from France's capital and produces rather unique electronic beats. "Different" comes from One album, released on Upwind label, which is one of them complexed albums - genres range from chillout through indie to electro house. Beatport classifies "Different" as electronica and let's just stick to that.

We like these kind of tracks here - steady 4x4 beat with some rather nice vocal chunks backed by very elaborated main theme which progresses nicely into... progressive electro?

No idea, but love the confusion and I reckon you'll love it aswell.

In some weird way it brings M83 - Midnight City to my mind. I guess there's something really unique but yet similar about French electronic music.

Alps Cru - Just Can't Explain

Well, the day has finally came - first ever hip-hop track on origamitracks.
Obviously this is no ordinary track and although it is almost 17 years old, I think it's better sounding than 90% of modern rap/hip-hop music.

Alps Cru was founded in 1992 as an underground hip-hop crew and sadly, they stayed underground till this very time. I mean I can be mistaking bout that since I am no expert as far as HH in concerned, I'm not even a big fan which in my mind makes this track double special.

Released as a part of 12" vinyl maxi-single (alongside all alone) brings a great, head-nodding beat with nicely chopped and scratched vocal chunks making great background for some fine, very melodic verses provided by P da Wicked and Shorty Live. If anyone asks me and I know no-one does, I'd say such track represents everything that is nice about HH and frankly what is missing with nowadays tracks, but yet again, I'm no expert so maybe I just don't dig deep enough to access such music.

Anyway, it chills nicely, is very pleasant for the ears so fits very smoothly into origamitracks agenda. Btw, it's one of these rare cases, where the instrumental mix works as fine as the original.

Jakwob - Fire

James Edward Jacob, better known to the world as Jakwob just got his commercial break not that long ago, when back in 2009 his remix for Ellie Goulding's Under The Sheets got picked as Zane Lowe's "hottest record in the world"

As far as his recent work is concerned, I must say I'm not such big of a fan, but showbiz has it's own rules - if the radio stations will play it (besides BBC radio 1 obv) then it's all god.

"Fire" dates way before the commercial remixes and sweet dubstep-thingies, and it is not only my favorite Jakwob track (maybe it's because it is completely different to any of his other work), but one the most beloved drum'n'bass tracks to date.

A true banger - there is messing around, it cuts straight to the case. And the case in massive.

Tom Day - Echoes

Have you ever caught yourself listening to some song and wondering if it is a sad or happy song? In my case it has occurred and it was this track that made the puzzlement.

When it starts you think to yourself "ok, some another end-of-sad movie track", but yet then it starts evolving, the skittering beat kicks in, leading cello (brilliant in my mind) fades out and makes some room for violin chords leading the action, backed by the very same cello in the process and the ever present circular piano lead. Somewhere there at the back of your head also resonated something resembling some vocal chops, but that may just be the way this tracks affects you.

To sum up, Melbourne-based Tom Day works hard messing with your head via this track and I must say it really works out - I don't think it gets much more intriguing than this.

Hiatus must be one of my favorite chillout producers, Change Up EP was on a repeat on my iPod for a very long time, along with "Life sized ghosts" and frankly it's a bit of a surprise it took this track so long to find it's way into this blog.
Stunning piece of music, incredibly soft and gentle with heavenly vocals courtesy of Shura, who frequently spares her voice on Hiatus' tracks.
