Click on the yellow Information bar above (if it appears) and select "Install Active X control...".

If the information bar appears without the option to install the ActiveX Control, please modify your security settings.

Orkut Brains just discovered a way out to send links without filling in any captcha (word verification). Unfortunately, this means more spam on orkut.

Note : Orkut Plus already notified orkut about this flaw.

Many a times you get some javascripts prompting large number of encoded scripts .Didnt catch what i told ? See the screenshot below .

Do you know what those numbers signify? They can be used to hide or mask the actual use of the script.

So what if they actually mean to get your cookies and the worst part is you don't know it.So here are some tips you can use to see what actually lies beneath those numbers.

What those numbers actually mean?

Now paste the javascript you received
You will see the result in the right hand side text box.
So now you actually know who sent you the script and what were his/her intentions ;o)

Hay frends i have already posted Shortcuts In orkut (Greasemonkey Script) V1.0 before. Now This is a second for you also known as one clock profile optimizer........!

This userscript adds a context menu with useful links for each profile on orkut. Whenever you right click on any profile, you will see a menu as shown in screenshot below. This can really save time if you want to visit scrapbook, or album of a member which otherwise took an extra step of navigating to the profile link first and then selecting the desired option.

Works With: Firefox Most of the scripts work with Firefox. In case you don't have it installed, you can download Firefox from the left sidebar.

Logout Script in Scrapbook (Tease Friends)

Well here is a small trick i used to tease few of my friends..

Copy the HTML Code below and paste it in your friends scrapbook.

Now each time some one including your friends visits that scrapbook he would automatically log out of Orkut.Annoying nah... :p

Well here is the procedure to be safe from this trick

How to Avoid this scrap

if you want to avoid being logged off again when you see the scrap, you can block flash in your browser.For firefox, download the following plugin :https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433In opera, you can disable the flash plugin.

How to delete this scrap

To delete the scrap with the logout script, first open your scrapbook(where the logout script is there), open any page(except the scrapbook) in a new window(don't close your scrapbook window).

When you open the new page of orkut, it'll ask you to log in. Enter your details and login to orkut. After login, go to your scrapbook page(which you had kept open), and delete the scrap which was causing the logout to occur.

‘Kidnappers’ remanded in custody till Jan 22

Nakul Kanu, who was allegedly kidnapped by his four friends, including Gaurav Shetty, 23-year-old son of K R Shetty — the owner of Peninsula Hotel in Sion — has reportedly told the police that he is innocent.

Shetty along with his friends Gaurav Solanki, Sushant and Jassi allegedly kidnapped Kanu on Sunday because they were furious over him posting lewd comments about his girlfriend and mother on the popular social networking website, Orkut. These claims have been refuted by Kanu, said police officials.

The four, who were arrested on Monday, were remanded in judicial custody till January 22 by the Kurla court on Tuesday. They were subsequently granted bail for a sum of Rs15, 000 each.

The Sion police now plan to approach Orkut and the cyber cell of the Mumbai police to establish the source of the messages that were posted on the site.

Though the UT police did not register a case, citing jurisdictional problems, they took her profile and photographs off the site. Earlier, Pune cops had reportedly sought a ban on Orkut following a series of such cases.

Events like these are the things which spoil the Fun of using Orkut !!Really these things should be stopped. Even if people make profiles for fun they sometimes crosses there limits. Orkut should take some actions against such people

History of ScrapBook Flooder (Working Script)

Most people still asks me how they can increase there scrapbook count. I have already made many Topics about scrapBook Flooder and i am making one more to inform those who still don't know about scrapbook flooder.

What is a scrapBook Flooder ?

A scrapbook flooder is a tool used to increase your scraps or Scrapbook counts.

What type of Flooders are there ?

There are two types of Flooding Tools. One is the Javascraipt flooder and the other is the Flooding software

History Of Flooders

I now a lot about flooders but still i think i lack in a lot of things. If i am wrong anywhere Please do let me know and if you want me to add some more here you can put it in the comment below

At the very beginning there were Javascripts which would flood so fast that they could only increase the scrap count of your scrapbook and not the Scraps. People who flooded using these flooders could get a high scrap count with little time spend. But these people soon have to pay as Orkut refreshed there servers people all over orkut lost thousands of scrapcount and after that Orkut started refreshing there servers more and more regularly putting an end to these kind of Flooders.

After that there were new javascripts which increased the actual scraps rather then the scrap count. These flooders were a lot slower then the previous ones. People were still happy with these but Orkut came back again and much harder as Orkut implemented a limit on the number of scraps which a person could send in a specific period of time. At start people were able to flood around 500 scraps during one round of there flooder and after that there account became blocked for around half an hour.

For this reason people started making new flooders. Few months after the limitations people made new flooding softwares which could flood using many profiles. You just have to feed your fake accounts Log In and Password into these flooders and they would start flooding your account using your fake accounts and would flood around 500 scraps and then would take a break for a small time and after that would start flooding again. They flooded simultaneously and alternatively using all of the accounts a person have. I remember people telling me that they have got 500 fake accounts so that they could flood as fast as they can and with out any errors. People even used to have Scrap Ranking.

Well good times don't last long. Soon Orkut being in beta changed there codes and after that keep changing them until 4 months ago when they finally changed the whole Template of Orkut. But still now few flooders are working. People were still flooding. New versions of the flooders keep on coming whenever orkut changed there codes.Orkut kept on decreasing the limit of scraps one can do in a specific period and Now its less then 300 scraps in one flooding session and after that your accounts is blocked for more then 3 hours. Orkut then gave a final Blow to all the people who used to Flood. Orkut added a limitation to the number of scraps.

People used to have many times more scrap then this. There were even challenges set to flood 1 million scraps in 24 hours but now the number of scraps orkut show are just 100,000 + . Well it was shocking and terrifying for all Orkut users who used to flood. I myself lost about half of my scrap count. This limitation by orkut put a real end to the flooding world. As people cant compete with one another on the number of scraps they have so what's the point to flood ?

How Orkut reacts to Flooders

Orkut have till now not taken any serious action against flooding. They could have stopped it years ago but they didn't. They took actions against flooding very late. Orkut currently have little chance of finding out if a person is flooding or not. So most people can still flood if they want and often even when Orkut finds out that someone is flooding they do not take it seriously. Unless the person is flooding in hundred thousands in which case Orkut is forced to take an action.

Suggest New Features To Orkut

Well i have posted this many times before on how to suggest Orku to add new features..

But many people still don't seem to know that so i thought about making a new topic on this..

One of the Top suggestions Orkut received was of Photos in albums. Ofcoarse 12 Photos were not good enough for Orkut's Users now Orkut have increased it to 100 photos and have also allowed it's users to Make new Albums

Another Top suggestion was to of Privacy..

Orkut have now added enough features which make there Privacy Settings much better..

although there are still some bugs in it..But it is pretty good as Orkut is still in Beta stage.

Orkut have now launched privacy settings for both album, scrapbook, videos and testimonials so that you can chose who you want to share your content with.

Organize Photos better Now - Make New Albums

Now that Orkut have Increased the Number of Photos Limit to 100.. the next thing we wanted was for Orkut to allow us to manage our photos better by making new Albums..well enough People would have suggested this Features HERE. That's the reason why orkut have implemented this FeatureNow when you will click the Photos Link you would see this :

Orkut says about it :

Today, orkut will be launching Photo Albums! Have many photos from a recent trip? Create an album specifically for that trip. Lots of pics from a recent night out with friends? Create another album with just those photos!
All of your current photos will be stored by default in their own album. Feel free to setup new ones by going to "photos" from your homepage. Once you have created an album, simply click on it and start uploading new photos inside. You can also change the cover photo by clicking on "edit" of the photo that you want to appear, and then selecting "album cover."

Once you have created the Album you can customize these things :

Orkut Profile being added to Google Search

Some orkut profiles will appear in Google search results as an orkut OneBox. A OneBox is a summary of your orkut profile, including key details like your name, photo and location. A OneBox appears only when someone who is logged in to orkut performs a search on Google.com for their friends or friends of friends. Keep in mind that this project is still in its experimental stage, so for now, only a small percentage of orkut users will see the OneBox in their search results.

Wondering what a OneBox Is ??

On top of the organic results (and sometimes at the bottom), Google shows OneBox results for queries that can be answered instantly or when a direct link can be offered.

You'll have the same privacy settings for the OneBox as you do for your full orkut profile, so no information you've made private in orkut will appear in Google search results. Additionally, if you wish to opt-out of the orkut Onebox altogether, you can do so by following these steps:

Click the privacy tab.
Under orkut in Google search results, click the hide information bubble.
Click save changes at the bottom of the page.

Note:
Orkut and the search team both don't have a way to change whose profiles will appear in Google search results as a OneBox.

Download FlashBlock

For firefox users i would highly recommend that they should Install Flashblock firefox extension!After Installing FlashBlock just restart your browser

Internet Explorer Users :

Go to the Tools Menu -> Internet Options

Click on the Security tab

Click on Custom Level

Disable Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins

Situation : Joined too Many Communities!

A cool trick found by ORKUT PLUS is to unjoin your communities.Many ppls have joined round about 999 or 900 communities ,which makes them to unjoin later. So a damn cool trick is here to make your work easy.

Solution: We currently do not have a refined software to unjoin selected communities. You can follow following tips to make your work easier.

Make a note of the communities you would want to re-join.
Use this software (Thanks Gautam) to Unjoin All Communities you presently have - Download
Required - .NET 2.0 framework to run the software - Download
Now, re-join your noted communities.

Orkut Goes After Unethical Profiles - Threatens To Report To Law Authorities!

After the much highlighted XSS debacle, it looks as if orkut has finally decided to take care of unethical minds on orkut. They are now issuing warnings on their homepage.

To be exact, these lines are being displayed as a security caution:

Security caution: Please do not use your orkut account to impersonate or harass other users. Violations of the orkut terms of service will lead to the suspension of your account. For serious violations, we can and will share information with local law enforcement agencies in your country. Be safe and keep orkut beautiful.

On a positive note, this was very much required to curb impersonation issues and the fact that official warnings make the work much easier.

Something was wrong on orkut
Some members complained of joining a community which they did not do manually.
Members were unable to un-join the community.
Surprisingly, the community featured 400,000 members in 12 hours of it's creation

Note: The so called 'worm' was harmless, but it it raised serious questions on orkut security features.
How Did it all happen?

You read about our warning, an XSS in the scrapbook. Evil minds used this for unethical purposes, but one mind thought the other way. He used this flaw to create a history, turning orkut upside down and leaving them puzzled for sometime.

What Was in His Mind?

Rodrigo Narrates, August 8, 2006 he came to know about an XSS but at that point of time he didn't have perfect programming skills to exploit the hole. He says, at that time he wanted to hack as many communities and profiles as he could on orkut. The hole was fixed soon.

December 19, 2007 , he came across a similar XSS and this time he had proper programming skills to do what ever he wanted to. But his state of mind was a bit different this time. His attempt was not to hack or hurt anyone but wanted to show how destructive this can be if used for evil purposes. He created a fake community -Infectados pelo Vírus do Orkut which has hit the headlines everywhere.

12 Hours, and the Community with 400,000 Members - How Did He Do It?

Member Received a Scrap
That scrap had an embed code.
That code embed a JavaScript, which was decompressed twice.
The JavaScript performed following functions:

-> It Automatically Joins a Member to a specific community

-> Member unknowingly sends scrap all to all his friends - with that code embed

-> Scrap is then deleted automatically.

-> So all his friends would do the same and thus, it was a fire spreading rapidly.

-> This came to a halt, when orkut finally fixed the XSS.

Find Your Gmail Friends On Orkut

Orkut Recently released there new feature through which you can add your Gmail friends as Orkut friends.. :)

This is one of the most awaited feature of Orkut..Many other Social Networking Sites had this feature...They used this to invite more people to there site. Now Orkut have also introduced this great feature..All the Google Talk users would be loving his feature as they can now invite or add there Google Talk friends on Orkut.

Everyone Knows that finding a profile on Orkut is very difficult. This feature makes this task easier for Orkut users.

Orkut Officials say about it :

One of the nice things about Gmail is that it adds the names of the people you have been in touch with over the years as contacts in your address book. Wouldn't it be nice if you could automatically find those contacts on orkut? We've started rolling out a new feature to do just that. If you use a gmail address to log into orkut, finding your friends is now just a click away. The find friends button on the homepage, friends page or friends list page gets you started on importing contacts. Your gmail address is already filled in, and since you've already logged into orkut, we don't have to ask for your Gmail password once again. We'll show you the contacts who are already on orkut, and let you choose which ones to add as friends. Well i feel sorry for the people who don't use Gmail Login, or have a different login for Orkut as they would not be able to use this feature. This feature is only available for Gmail as Orkut do not import address book at this time.

'Orkut has become integral part of Indians lives'

Chennai (PTI): Google's social networking site , Orkut.com has become an integral part of Indians' lives, a top official of the company said on Friday.

"We are quite pleased with what we have seen with both the loyalty and usage of Orkut in India.It seems to have become a very central part of people's lives and we are very proud of the fact that people get value addition," Shailesh Rao, Managing Director, Google India told reporters on the sidelines of a management seminar here on Friday.

Rao said Google had launched several products in local languages in India."Today, on Orkut, the users can transliterate using an English keyboard into Hindi, can view Orkut content in multiple regional languages," he said.

The MD also said the company had a lot more work to do in India and "our time in India is much more ahead of us than behind us."

To a query if other social networking sites were beginning to eat away at Orkut's users, he said "In fact, we are quite pleased with how users are taking to all kinds of services on the internet including social networking. In India, what we require is more diversity, more services, more options, more experimentation, more innovation. So I think it is wonderful there are more platforms that Indians can use and experiment lots of things."

Rao said the company's Indian operations had the largest number of employees next only to its US operations.

He said India would be the focus country for the company to carry out product and service developments.

Use a userscript for the above javascript made by D3.This would be much more helpful as you would not have to run the script again. Firefox would automatically open Locked scrapbook for you.You would need Firefox for this. Then Install GreasemonkeyAfter that Install the View Locked Scrapbook Script

Hate Clubs Mushroom on Orkut

If you happen to hate Big B's smug face, beaming across from every other channel, or those tireless 'K's' from Ekta Kapoor's 'soap factory', you now have space to vent your emotions.

Hate communities or hate clubs are becoming increasingly popular on social networking Web sites like Google-owned Orkut.

On Orkut, the Ekta Kapoor hate club leads the pack with a membership of nearly 76,468 and counting. Followed by Himesh Reshamiya (of the nasal twang) with 33,137 members; Shah Rukh Khan with 11,179; Greg Chappell with 7,659; yes, Mahatma Gandhi with 6,647; General Musharraf with 1,362; and the Big B with 1,410.

Psychiatrist Sameer Parekh feels that such communities have become popular as they appeal to our hatred for certain things. Very true, but why would anybody hate Mahatma Gandhi and even have the audacity to start a hate group dedicated to him?

“People have certain amount of hatred, dislikes and complexities and they get a chance to express it on such communities. But, there are very few people who give importance to such things. They reinforce your point of view and you join them without giving much thought,” explained Parekh.

It is one thing to start a community to express common dislikes about regular things in life. Such groups even have a humorous tone. But, it’s another issue altogether when communities on the Internet hurt the sentiments of others.
Social networking sites are thus coming up with new methods to prevent the abuse of communities on the Web.

A Google spokesperson said,
“We take the abuse fo Orkut seriously and are constantly developing new tools to review inappropriate content on the site. Orkut users can report content to our reviewers by clicking the ‘report as bogus’ button. There are also tools for community owners to delete posts or topics, ban users and delete anonymous posts.”

“But, at the same time, we put a certain amount of trust in our users to notify us of violations. We have also introduced a priority reporting tool. It makes life easier for the police to contact us when they get concerns about content on Orkut,” the Google spokesperson added.

So, it is evident that measures ARE being taken to check the misuse of social networking sites such as Orkut, but regulating such communities is what still remains a problem. However, a group that came to my notice on Orkut entitled “We Hate Caste Feeling” is something acceptable in times like ours.
