Brent Chesanek- TallSlenderTrees.com

April 4, 2009 I had a chance to speak with Brent Chesanek, one of the Producers of the film currently in development to be shot in Central Florida, Tall Slender Trees.

"Tall Slender Trees is the story of a sixteen year old boy wandering the area just outside Orlando's tourist hotbed seeking the greatness and adventure that Central Florida's reputation promises."

Chesanek attended high school in the Central Florida area and made short films here and went on to study journalism and English at the University of Florida. Brent lives in Brooklyn but is in Florida about 1/3 of the year and has just completed photography on an untitled short film.

19 New York City Author Eve Lederman

(38:49) Eve Lederman is the author of the book "Letters from My Sister: On Love, Life and Hair removal" available on Amazon.com and New York City Barnes & Noble locations. Lederman describes the book she wrote with her sister like this: "Letters From My Sister is a memoir of our lives in progress comprising a collection of correspondence. Our offbeat adventures run the gamut from men to careers to hair removal, and we blame all our frustrations and fears on our Jewish mother who used to buy an entire tongue pickled from the butcher. She’d plop the whole organ down on the table like an autopsy. We were traumatized by that tongue."

Michael Molyneux, staff editor of the City section of the The New York Times said “The Lederman sisters serve up a warm slice of life on the edge, with an edge. A thoroughly enjoyable tale of urban escapades.” Matthew Cooper, White House correspondent for Time Magazine called the book “A racy conversation worth wiretapping, and an uproarious celebration of free speech.” And Wayne Fisk, Director of Programming for ABC Broadcasting called it “An entertaining and tantalizing literary lap dance.”

We were traumatized by that tongue." Michael Molyneux, staff editor of the City section of the The New York Times said “The Lederman sisters serve up a warm slice of life on the edge, with an edge. A thoroughly enjoyable tale of urban escapades.” Matthew Cooper, White House correspondent for Time Magazine called the book “A racy conversation worth wiretapping, and an uproarious celebration of free speech.” And Wayne Fisk, Director of Programming for ABC Broadcasting called it “An entertaining and tantalizing literary lap dance.” Mentioned in this Episode --Book's website --Buy it on Amazon --A Good Uplift (the bra documentary she made with her sister) --The Moth --Shag's Zodiac: Offbeat Adventures in Astrology --Shag's Little Book of Love: Dating, Mating and Mischief Making --Pink Panther Cockatil Party --Orchard Corset</itunes:summary>

<feedburner:origEnclosureLink>http://markbaratelli.hipcast.com/deluge/f0cee543-213e-c6f8-a92c-e74dff251845.mp3</feedburner:origEnclosureLink>

(39:26) Hi this is Mark Baratelli, the host of the Orlando Arts Podcast. I had the opportunity to appear as a guest on the radio show called "Life in Stages," hosted by Scottie Campbell on 91.5 FM, a radio station based at Rollins College in Orlando, Florida. We talked about the 2007 Orlando Fringe Festival, new ideas for it from me, Beth Marshall and the patrons responding on the Official Orlando Fringe Blog, my show Improv Cabaret going to San Francisco and New York City and me going on tour in August with the "I Love a Piano" national tour.

The recording you hear was done on my laptop in the studio while the interview was happening live on the radio, so you don't get that "radio quality" audio. I would have just linked to their podcast version of the show, but they don't podcast yet.

15 Podcampnyc, an unconference

John C Havens is the lead organizer of Podcampnyc and the writer of the Podcasting Section of About.com. This is a great interview for those unfamiliar with podcasting who want to know what it can do for you and why others are so excited about it. This interview also a great introduction to the emerging ideas of barcamp and unconferences. I picture this episode being great for those arts organizations who've heard about these concepts but have yet to implement them.

8 Orlando Fringe Festival Producing Artistic Director

Producing a 16-year-old festival of theater on the fringes of Orlando's arts scene can be a huge task, but not for Producing Artistic Director Beth Marshall. Her unabashed confidence comes from her heartfelt belief in both the festival and the artists within. She herself a former artist puts the performers and producers of the shows in the festival first before anything else. She has a clear passion for them and takes mighty good care to give them everything they need, and then some. Most fringe festivals do not provide the attention she gives her artists. But then again, the Orlando Fringe is not like most festivals.
