Cebu SEO meetup is an informal gathering of Cebuanos optimizers and marketers which will take place on October 18, Sunday 1pm at McDo, Asia Town, IT Park with the renown Search Marketing Expert, Hans Koch.

Hans Koch is currently the Search Division President of Click Eleven based in California. He's expanding his network of friends here in Cebu (according to his tweet). This is a great informal meeting of like-minded individuals who wants to learn SEO in-depth.

Probably, you've been hearing the latest features of Digsby nowadays. Instant and EMail Messaging plus Facebook API support in one easy to use application. These features work best for me and may suit other people needs who always do their multitasking job everyday.

As an SEO Specialist, I was given a privilege to use several IM and EMail clients such as Yahoo Messenger, and browse websites like Twitter and Facebook just to be updated with search engine news and the latest online marketing trends. And sometimes, if I'm no longer busy, chatting with my friends and buddies in Yahoo, Google and Facebook Chat can be made in a moderate way.

So, how do I manage all these stuff? I simply use Digsby, a free program client that handles all my daily tasks in one. Wheew! I will show you how Digsby makes my work with less complexity.

Before, I used to logged every IM clients that I'm using and Emails in a web browser. It would consumed me minutes just by typing my username and passwords and even worst if I mistyped or forgot those required informations.

Thanks to Digsby for making my work a hassle-free. This program has no string attached, it's free and user-friendly. It can also be styled with different skins or themes. Accounts that are supported are Yahoo (Email and Chat), Google (Mail and Chat), Facebook (News Feeds and Chat), Twitter, LinkedIn, Hotmail, AOL accounts, and Myspace.

TweetDeck + Meebo = Digsby

I've been using these two programs lately and opted-out when Digsby was introduced to me. Digsby offers the same basic services that TweetDeck and Meebo are featuring. TweetDeck is mainly targeting the twitter users and they have Facebook API support as well. Meebo is for chatting purposes only, its best feature of course, is you can chat any Instant Messaging ID that you have in one place, i.e. in a Web Browser, no need to download. But with Digsby, you can use both of these great features.

Malware Removal Free in Blogger Yesterday, I was battling of Malware when two of my friends confirmed that my blog has these harmful bugs. I even shouted in my Facebook status "My site is unfairly tagged as Malware". Both of them we're using Google Chrome to detect the malicious code and I have no idea how and where it penetrates in this site. I really can't believe that it exists in my blog and when I research on it, I found out that Blogger.com is the number 1 host for malware. Wooah! Because blogger has no scanning feature yet to detect our posts that may have threats within before publishing in the web. Well, Google gave us freedom to post any articles to the extent that it will not violate their rules and maybe one of them is having malware on our site. Too bad for average person like me who doesn't have an idea why these trojans are existing.

How to Remove Malware in Blogger?

There's only one reason why they exist in Blogspot blogging platform. Since, we can embed website iframes anywhere we want, it's the only source of these trojans. It is a bad thing to do in regards to the way Google works and might be in some cases detected it as malwares. So, to get rid of them, just simply remove those harmful iframes.

If you like to scan your whole website to help such terrible situations, you can use this free online service, LinkScanner. Just type in the site URL and LinkScanner would visit the website for you and report back the contents if there's a risk factor involved in visiting the site. Being Wise and Nice with Online Scammers

When I was browsing in SEO Philippines Forum, a new thread was opened up by a newbie member, selling some mobile and PDA phones. So, I read on it and got noticed of their cheap prices specially with Apple IPhone 3GS 32GB for only $300 (~Php 14,000.00) and best of all free from delivery charges! My mind thought of buying this latest unit from Apple and resell it here in the Philippines for a higher value. But recalling my first experience in an online game when I got scammed by trading my money for a dupe item, and from that I quickly thought that this might be a scam again.

I assert myself, how sure am I that this business scheme is fraud or not. To test I added his Yahoo ID in my list and then we started chatting. You may read our chat logs below.

To sum up our conversation, our first chat was I'm too query about their company Hanby Limited, according to him they're registered and reputable company located in UK and they don't have a website yet but they're currently working on it. I googled it and he was right of his given informations, seems to be legit or maybe he's using other company's details so I decided that I will catch him up next time, since I need more informations about their business.

In our next talk, I managed in tracking his IP Address, to attest if he's telling me his right location via EMail (after sending the Price List of their mobile phones). Tools that I used were Trace Email by IP-Address.com and Trace EMail Source by What Is My IP Address.com. In his first email, the IP location points to Benin (a small country in Western Africa) but in his next email, it's now in Seoul, South Korea.... Hmmm.. what a great disparity of locations. These draw to my conclusion, that these people are members of a wide syndicate operating from South Korea, Benin and the US!

These given details of the Western Union's Recipient aids me in knowing more the people behind this monkey business online. I googled this person's name and these were my findings.

Whoaa! So, I guess the EMail IP Tracking system is right. An African lady appears in a certain website and her mother tongue, Yoruba is a native language in Western Africa including Benin. Adding to the fact that Africans are notorious of Advance Fee Fraud particularly the Nigerian scams circulating in EMails. Nigeria is just a nearby country of Benin and the third english speaking country in the World.

It also holds very true that this culprit has been using different usernames and emails in one IP Address in various forums online. As it is always been easy to register new accounts in every forums.

If you're a victim of scam, you can a file a complaint at Internet Crime Complaint or at the Stop Forum Spam to end this fictitious commercial trade in the web.

Facebook Juggernaut Overtakes Yahoo!

Game Over for Friendster in SIMP?

When I looked up the Top Sites in the Philippines via Alexa.com, I noticed how Facebook.com became the dominant social networking site (SNS) in the country today. Not so quite surprising because Facebook is sucking members from Friendster. Even TV commercials here in the Philippines are endorsing Facebook.

And Friendster is also looking for an active asset buyer in Asia particularly in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines (SIMP). Henry Sy of SM Prime Holdings can be a potential biggest stock holder of the company that is, if he is interested with the impact of social media sites nowadays. Yay! Friendster is for sale!

SEMCON 2009: The 3rd Search Engine Marketing Conference Philippines 2009

SEMCON 2009 (Search Engine Marketing Conference) is scheduled to happen this October and I'm planning to attend this event with second thoughts because of the Php 9,500.00 registration fee. But thanks to Sir Abe of Yugatech generosity because he will be giving Free Passes to SemCon 2009. I'm writing this entry for me to able to get a chance, not just to meet the highly respected people behind the Philippine Search Engine Marketing, but to learn as well their (TTTTs) techniques, tips, tricks, tactics in local SEO, PPC management, Twitter tactics, Video SEO and so much more. I think the fee is reasonable and worthy enough for the two day event in a five star hotel in Makati. But I don't want to seem like I'm begging Sir Abe and the SEMCON 2009 organizers to include or consider this entry, I just want to prove that life isn't fair as Neil Patel said:

Life isn’t fair! If you don’t like the cards you are dealt with, do something to change them. And for some unGodly reason, if you are unable to change them, keep moving forward and don’t look back. All you can do is try.

So, what's with the quote means to me? I'm actually in the field of Electronics and Communications yet my interest has never been into it but I don't want to blame my Parents in choosing my course because they help me sustained my financial needs when I was in college and I was able to graduate on a planned time. Maybe ,I'm in the wrong career path now but I can say I LOVE learning SEO by myself. I'm actually motivated and inspired by Neil Patel's life story and our fellow Filipino SEO experts as well like Benj Arriola and Gary Viray.

I'm now working as an SEO Specialist in a certain Australian Outsourcing Web Design company here in Cebu. My curiosity started when I joined a local SEO Contest and in a fortunate manner, I was able to grab the No. 1 spot in Google SERPs for the keyphrase "Cebu Local Hair Care" and that became my means of advancement in studying more in the field of SEO. If ever given a chance, then I could be a representative of the Cebu online community specially for my Cebu Bloggers family and probably widen more my knowledge and be an internet rockstar someday. Yay!

I do have high hopes with more of my rational moves why I would want to join this event.

1. Relationship - I want to meet fellow Filipino Social Media experts, Search Engine Analysts, SEO Specialists and online marketing expert and bloggers as well to enjoyed being a part of something larger than me in the online world.

2. Expertise - Joining SEMCON 2009 can offer a range of skills and expertise to help grow my familiarity, awareness, or understanding with Search Engine Marketing gained through experience or study. Similarly, when we are in a network with many other bloggers and come across a problem with your blog it’s amazing how quickly it can be solved.

3. Prestige - of course, this one will vary considerably from one event to another event but I was thinking before joining this, if given the chance to participate for one of the top Philippine Marketing conference I could use it to my advantage in building of my own profile.

4. Learning - I will join this event to learn how to optimise and market on a more professional level so that I could use the skills I learnt in my own ventures. I could probably start watching someone else do something and then to imitate - being part of this event (hopefully) can expose me to all kinds of learning opportunities.

Eating on Just $1 in One Day

This is not a contest neither I'm out of budget; it's a test if I can stand the toughest of all restrictions. 1 (One) US dollar hits Php 48.44 as of this writing, so let's just round off it to Php 50.00. With this amount, I can already order a McDonald's McSavers meal or a piece of Shawarma with Tropicana Juice or even perhaps as a Proud Filipino citizen, purchase and wear an Ako Mismo Dog Tag. So, what else can a 50 peso bill buy nowadays?

In a regular day, I normally spend $4.00 for my meals and snacks alone. So, if I would take this challenge everyday, definitely I can save $3.00 per day but I don't think with my health just to give my body all the goodness it needs to function properly. Ideally, eating healthily need not be expensive it just a matter of eating badly or healthy.

In the case of President Arroyo with her delegations, they're eating badly for that huge sum yet a healthy impression for her good image towards her diplomats abroad. They should ask themselves first where they're going to dine and how expensive those restos are (if someone has been already there). Whatever there reasons are, still they're not the great role models for frugality.

Anyway, I'll be taking the challenge this Sunday and hopefully, I can take pictures of my Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner meals. Hope I can survive! LoLs.

Happy Horse

In every case of Red Horse, a Happy Horse could be found. It looked just like RH except for a little discrepancy on the label. HH also had a much higher alcohol content than RH, thus the name Happy, which is the feeling you supposedly get after drinking a bottle.

Can you spot the difference?

There are 2 ways to distinguish the happy horse from the regular:
1. The Face of the horse (front of the bottle).. The Happy Horse have a "smiling horse"..
2. The back label. The regular red horse has a gold back label while the Happy Horse has a red back label.

It was last night with my workmates and our big bosses, when I saw that Happy Horse for the first time. I actually thought that Happy Horse is just a regular Red Horse beer that would make a drinker happy.

But according to the information I got, happy horse having a stronger kick is just a myth. They are the same brew because they come from the same line in the brewing process. The only difference between the happy horse and the regular RH is the packaging. What they call the happy horse is the old packaging. Red Horse changed a little bit of their logo in 1992 which resulted in new bottles being made. The old bottles (happy horse) still exist because RH bottles are recycled and cleaned. Their life span is 20 years before they get discarded. You can determine the age of the bottle by looking at the bottle's scuff level. It's the white band around the neck of the bottle. the thicker it is, the older the bottle.

But San Miguel Corporation has no official statement regarding the existing bottles of the smiling Red Horse. Not that I’m surprised though. The myth only strengthens the perception of the brand and encourages beer drinkers to search for that elusive bottle of happy horse. Knowing the reality behind these bottles doesn’t erase the fact that Red Horse beer is still a heck of a great beer! Bottoms up!

The Blogger and a Blah-ger

You can never tell the difference between the two by just looking at their looks or physical traits. You have to browse his own blog and then you can tell perhaps if he belongs to the Blah-ger group or not. I think I'm in between of the two? hehe lols.

If your blog is full of information that is pretty much useless to anyone except you and your need to talk, you really don’t have a blog. You have a blahg, and you are officially a blahger.

Blahger: a blogger whose message is primarily blah-blah-blah

Hopefully that’s not you. And if your blog is simply for the purpose of you expressing your thoughts to anyone who will read it – or no one – and you don’t really care if anyone shows up, then you blahg with passion and don’t let anyone stop you.

BUT if you have something valuable to say and you want people to benefit from your knowledge or experience, then you need to be a blogger with substance and meaning.

So what do you think, are you a blogger or a blahger?

And if you're blogger, I'm definitely sure you've followed these five stages of a Blogger's life towards a Problogger stage that everyone is dreaming of like me. Nyahaha...

I hope the last stage isn't true for the sake of all the bloggers out there. Adding it up, the stage 6: (Ouch! My hand... and yes smile as always!)

Sumilon Island Bloggers' Free Invasion

Yay! I'm joining my fellow bloggers in conquering the Sumilon Island next week indeed summer escapade is not yet over for us since this is all for FREE! (Totally free! Yup! You've heard it right!) ECPAT Cebu I-Cafe Launching

Today is the launching of ECPAT I-Cafe here in Cebu with the theme "Make Information Technology safe for children everywhere they are". I'm actually their first and one of their avid customers before they launch the said activity. ECPAT is an international organization recognized by UNICEF that aims to eliminate the commercial sexual exploitation of children or CSEC. To help them achieve their goal you can pass the Anti-Child Pornography Act now by signing this petition online. There are over 80 groups in more than 70 countries in the ECPAT network. The International Secretariat is based in Bangkok, Thailand.

ECPAT’s original name End Child Prostitution in Asian Tourism was changed in 1996 to End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking in Children for sexual purposes, reflecting the organization's geographic expansion.

How long can you live without the internet?

A question that I should ask myself more often... Well, probably quite a while... I'm an average on-line user. I can surf the Web a bit too long at times, but I have these controls over my usage. I do enjoy being incommunicado sometimes! But not forever, though... Losing it would be a trial but it could be done. I could live, I am strong but the withdrawal period would be long and painful. I never choose computers over going out with friends, I go hangout on weekends, have friends. Internet is just my favorite hobby…even if obsessive at times.

For some like the old-timers, they can live for years without the internet. And they don't think they would have trouble giving it up. But others specially the children and teens, most of them are "weboholics" or might be having this Internet Addiction Disorder(IAD).

Some of my friends lived in an area of town where they should be out every night and every day. I’m ashamed to say how much time they spend online. They spent all day (ALL DAY) online today. Yesterday too. Friday and Saturday night. This is not untypical. It’s become a serious problem to them. They miss sleep, ignore relationships, ignore their health (think it’s healthy sitting indoors all day?), ignore their career and even school. What for? Online games. Porn. Random infotainment. There is so much info out there. It becomes so easy to get caught up in it. Now, I’m not blaming anyone but their selves. This probably points to an underlying internal problem but I think it's part of our humane nature, we are all “homo adictus”, we use to abuse from any situation that reports us pleasure and happiness in any sense. And that's because faults in our lives: affection, money, success, love,...

The more intelligent we are the more easy we’ll get frustrated and the more weird our addiction will be. People gets super specialized in comics, games, news, tech, just for putting all their time there... I have friends that have got incredible scores in MMORPGs, something unable for the most of us. That means they have a lot of skills in organization, calculation, abstract thinking, economics,... but all of these efforts were (actually they are) made in the wrong direction, they are just missing their time just because they need feeling themselves successful and forget their real problems at the same time.

The problem is not internet itself but the rest of our lives, because of the way our modern society works, and its system set of values. Its too hard be a perfect lover, student, businessman,... and its too easy get frustrated in many ways all the time.

Best of luck to all who want to make positive changes in their lives. I keep telling myself, when you’re 85 and dying, do you want look back on your life and see a computer screen?

I love the Internet and it is my passion, however on a personal level I conclude it is just the communication channel I use to get the information I need and to be in touch with my friends. It never interfered with my personal life. Being informed is my addiction.. that’s not that bad I think.

I compiled these 12 easy tips or reminders to help you out getting over your addiction to the internet...

1) I will have a cup of coffee in the morning and read my newspaper like I used to, before the Internet.

2) I will eat breakfast with a knife and fork and not with one hand typing.

3) I will get dressed before noon.

4) I will make an attempt to clean the house, wash clothes, and plan dinner before even thinking of the Internet.

5) I will sit down and write a letter to those unfortunate few friends and family that are Internet-deprived.

6) I will call someone on the phone who I cannot contact via the Internet.

7) I will read a book...if I still remember how.

8) I will listen to those around me and their needs and stop telling them to turn the TV down so I can hear the music on the Internet.

9) I will not be tempted during TV commercials to check for email.

10) I will try and get out of the house at least once a week, if it is necessary or not.

11) I will remember that my bank is not forgiving if I forget to balance my checkbook because I was too busy on the Internet.

12) Last, but not least, I will remember that I must go to bed sometime...and the Internet will always be there tomorrow!

Don’t forget to go outside. It’s a beautiful world out there!

My Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs for 2009

The list is now complete for My Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs for 2009. Yehey! So, here is my list of blogs I look at when I get overly cynical and burnt out sometimes. Let's help spread the word and encourage others to participate in this year's Top Ten Emerging Influential Blogs.

1. Berg Loves Pizza - It is not actually a food blog but a certified personal music site managed by Berg. I also don't have an idea why or what “pizza” has to do with his blog. His blog features newly released singles and albums of some foreign artists and writes what he thinks of them. You can listen conveniently aside from the embedded YouTube performances and music videos, some tracks were also uploaded already. It also provides regular doses of music news and album reviews. I check out this blog everyday, all for the love of good music. Hope he can be part of CBS community someday! You deserve a kick-ass nomination dude! hehe...

2. Batang Lakwatsero - Online travelogue of the famous Batang Yagit in the Philippine blogosphere, now he tagged himself as Batang Lakwatsero? hehe. I only met him once in the 1st Cebu Digital Filipino Club and later realized that he was also an electronics engineering student like me. A very humble guy as well! He's now a certified licensed engineer.

3. Through the Focal Glass - One of the most active and friendly Cebu Bloggers Society members. VanJhnn's passion in photography, I think is one of the things that rejuvenates him aside from his dogs which he nurtured them very much like his own real babies that's why he own a blog about canine dogs. He also blogs about Velez College - one of the Philippines' premier school in Medical Technology.

4. JAYtography - This is Jaypee's blog. A blogger from Pampanga and also an Electronics Engineer by profession. I came across his blog when I'm searching for review materials for our engineering board exam. There! And he's ready to help our fellow aspiring engineers. He is a contributor in Coconuter Community. Also, love his photography.

5. Cebu Bloggers Society - Cebu-based bloggers who are passionate to come-up with an online portal for their fellow BisDak bloggers. I highly respect them specially the active and pioneers who made the group getting well-known not just in the City but in the whole wide world via world wide web. hehe. I'm a proud member of the CBS Family! Weeh!

6. Adaphobic - Ada is a well respected blogger. On her personal blog she writes essentially about her experiences and endeavors. She is brutally honest about herself (I appreciate that too) and I'm sure she's also fun to be with (I wanna meet and talk with her someday!). She's into photography as well, vlogging and podcasting soon. So, watch out for that!

7. The ExtraOrdinary Kiddo - I'm supporting my co-blogger in CBS. Bryan is highly adept in software technology but he loves blogging more than that in fact he's maintaining four blogs as of now (If I'm not mistaken). All were designed professionally. Go! Bryan! Go!... hehe

8. Patay Gutom - When I first found out this site, I laughed and smiled that hard because of the domain name itself! Yeah! But when I see that they're all bunch of elite bloggers I was amazed and delighted by the foods they've posted because I also love to eat voraciously! Kudos to Jehz and the rest of the gang!

9. Kelvinonian - A commercial model and soon-to-be engineer but what stand out most is being a Batangueño blogger and at the same time his excessive desire in photography.

10. Ark Hilario - Completing the list, is my active blogger friend all the way from Cotabato in Mindanao. He just recently launched his new main site last February this year to blog seriously and professionally. Quoted from his post "...random thoughts culled from the deep recesses of my existence. I’ll also showcase here my various collections (might be junk for some) I have accumulated over the years." a worry-free thoughts and ideas to share are on his blog. The Big Ark of Noah suits his blog niche. hehe...

TransPortmers: Pinoy-Made Transformers

Transportmers are pinoy-made transformers. They're different from the regular transformers you know and love. Characters such as Optibus Prime, Megatren and Sembreaker can be found. Although they are just artists drawings/concept if you will, they are still interesting to take a look at as they are transformers made out of regular Filipino vehicles. I can't find the person who made these cool Philippine versions. If you can search it, tell me so I can credit these arts to him. Michael Bay you should see these... hehe. LoLs.
