I found this great simple advice to increase or stay productive especially for people having consumer-mindsets.

I make sure to start every day as a producer, not a consumer.

When you get up, you may start with a good routine like showering and eating, but as soon as you find yourself with some free time you probably get that urge to check Reddit, open that game you were playing, see what you're missing on Facebook, etc.

Put all of this off until "later". Start your first free moments of the day with thoughts of what you really want to do; those long-term things you're working on, or even the basic stuff you need to do today, like cooking, getting ready for exercise, etc.

This keeps you from falling into the needy consumer mindset. That mindset where you find yourself endlessly surfing Reddit, Facebook, etc. trying to fill a void in yourself, trying to find out what you're missing, but never feeling satisfied.

When you've started your day with doing awesome (not necessarily difficult) things for yourself, these distractions start to feel like a waste of time. You check Facebook just to make sure you're not missing anything important directed at you, but scrolling down and reading random stuff in your feed feels like stepping out into the Disneyland parking lot to listen to what's playing on the car radio - a complete waste of time compared to what you're really doing today.

It sounds subtle, but these are the only days where I find myself getting anything done. I either start my day like this and feel normal and productive, or I look up and realize it's early evening, I haven't accomplished anything and I can't bring myself to focus no matter how hard I want to.

A couple of interesting things popped out to me.

Microsoft is surprisingly diversified. It's nice to see their entertainment division has been successful--that's my favorite part of Microsoft (outside Microsoft Research, of course). I wonder if we'll see a separate, significant mobile category in the future.
Apple makes a larger amount of money off iOS and less off OS X than I expected. I guess I just see a disproportionate amount of Apple computers around (mostly owned by college students).
Google wasn't surprising at all. Of course, this says more about me than Google: I follow Google much more closely than Microsoft or Apple (I actually use Google's products, unlike the other two).
It would have been nice to see Amazon here as well. They've been trying some new things; I wonder how it's been working. (But not enough to go look myself :p.)
It'll be interesting to see Facebook in the future too.

Project Majel: Google's Siri Killer

Majel is a development of Google's Voice Actions that is now available on almost all Android devices with the help of natural language processing. Where Voice Actions asked you to issue specific commands like "send text to..." or "navigate to...", Majel will enable you to execute actions in your natural language like how Siri works.

Google search queries will likely be included with the initial release. Other more sophisticated features like controlling phone actions and apps with natural language dictations are expected to come later.

How To Edit Your Facebook Comments

Facebook silently rolled out new feature to its commenting system: you can edit your comments!

Clicking the “X” button, at the upper right corner, will allow you to edit your comment, only if your comment is

as short as 60 seconds, or
nobody has commented after you.

If either one of that happens, your comment is locked and the “X” button will then perform no other function, other than deleting your comment.

Note that everyone still gets email and SMS notifications when you edit comments.

Improve Your WiFi Signal Using A Beer Can

If you want to go in a quite place in your house, WiFi signal doesn't extend out. In order to extend the WiFi signal through out in your house, here are the tools you will need:

1 Razor knife
1 Pair of Scissor
1 Empty Beer Can
1 Tape or other adhesive

Grab a beer and empty it out. Make sure you rinse it clean.

Get rid of the pop top.

Cut the bottom of the can off.

Next, cut around the top below the opening. Be careful the can get flimsy if you don't want to get your finger cut-off

Cut the middle and form the can into sort of radar device (parabolic antenna)

Put a little tape on the bottom and just slide it on your wireless router.

Then, you're good to go!

And, there you have it, an extended signal, now you can go anywhere in your place and surf the web!

It also works in routers without external antenna.

The oldest Hebrew document that exists - over 2000 year old. It's a real treat that Google has made accessible these incredibly detailed digital scans.

I think this is probably the most important archaeological find of our time. Glad to see it being made available for everyone.

I have this long frustration at work when I am surrounded by multiple PCs, mouse and keyboard juggling and slow transferring files between two or more computers. In my case, I have two laptops on my desk, one is connected to an LED monitor. Now, thanks to Mouse Without Borders, a garage project developed by Microsoft, I can move my mouse anywhere of these screens seamlessly as if they are all part of a one machine.

This tool:

allows you to move your mouse across your multiple screens and reach one of them even if it is attached to a different PC.
can share files between computers simply by dragging those files from one desktop to another.

I feel desensitized by the countless number of TLDs that have come out recently. I guess I should be excited by .XXX, but I just am not.

The temptation to put a useful, non-porn site on a subdomain of .xxx is quite large. Just to make the point that .xxx is useless and for the large number of clicks that it will no doubt bring.

There's something difficult about saying "hey go to mypornsite dot x-x-x", it's 3 syllables over the conventional "dot com", "dot net" or "dot org.

Go here if you want to register your domain ending with .xxx ! I might register one for my client. :)))

Best Photo App For Android Yet?

I've been searching a photo application that does all the capturing, editing and sharing for android platform and nothing really works best for my phone, images were also not that great, so I stick with my default phone camera app for months. You will know something lacking with the photos you took on mobile after seeing those in your desktop.

Not until, a friend of mine recommends me to try Camera 360 Lite. Let these pictures shown below speak how great this app is!

Move Your FB Photos Easily to Google+

I just installed the Chrome extension, and it was easy. Took less than a minute to export a Facebook album containing 30 photos over to Google+, thanks Move2Picasa.

The chrome extension transferred my photos quite well =) The only problem is it loaded my albums in backwards chronological order, so the oldest one shows up first in Google+ .

By default, the newly transferred photos are set to private and it is worth checking again at what you had set for these photos, just to make sure you are not sharing with the unintended people.

The Facebook's entrant to video call service only has expand, close and minimize buttons. There's no play, mute, pause or any other control buttons. The video chat opens just below your computer's camera at the top center of the monitor, so you're looking at both yourself and the other person.

That's how simple the Facebook video feature is.

Rob Maison, the guy behind Facebook simplistic design, as interviewed by Fast Company talks about how he envisioned it.

No Controls

Once you’re inside the video calling window (you’ve called another person and they’ve accepted your call), the window in which you’re speaking to each other has no controls, other than the standard ones (full screen, minimize, and close).
If the goal is simply to enable two people to communicate, Mason says, bells and whistles risk getting in the way--even a mute button, which you’d think would be a core control for a calling service.
“It seems like such a simple feature,” Mason says, “but if you accidentally mute a call, you can end up in a state where you have video but no sound.”
“It adds a lot of confusion.”

Placing The Call Window At The Top

Although you can move the call window around, when it first appears, Facebook positions it at the top of the screen, right below your camera. That way, when you’re looking at the person you’re talking with, your eyes are looking in the same general place as the camera, which increases the chance that it captures some measure of eye contact.
Similarly, the picture of you that’s embedded in the call window also appears at the top. That, says Mason, is so that if you check out your own picture during the call, you don’t lose eye contact with the person you’re speaking with.

Making Your Picture Tiny

The picture of you that gets embedded in the call window is noticeably small, thumbprint-sized, rather than profile-photo-size, or larger.
“That’s so that you’re not self-conscious,” Mason says. “You can see that you’re in the frame, but you can’t see any imperfections.”

Keeping The Video Window In The Foreground

Try bringing another window to the forefront of your screen when you’re on a Facebook video call, and you’ll quickly find that you can’t. That’s entirely intentional, Mason says, and again harks back to the idea of making video calls simple and easy even for the most novice users.
“It’s really important for our members to be confident that they know when they’re being seen and heard,” Mason says. With the video window always on top, you never forget you’re in a call.

Yes, I do find it hard and slow, to showcase something I got especially on TV! Quite honestly, I don't mind seeing myself featured on TV for being fan of something trendy and popular "kay maulaw gyud ko" hehe. I mean it would be every person's dream right to actually get promoted on TV for being a fan.

I think I look thin and dopey in my cameo interview but I think it came out pretty cool and it’s been a great boost for my confidence! Wink!

Thanks, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho for the wonderful and memorable experience! That was my first attempt to appear on national TV!
