Rev. Karen Watt, MA, is a beloved faculty member of One Spirit's Wisdom Curriculum courses Me to We and Spiritual Depth. Karen is an ordained Interfaith minister, a consultant to business, educational, and non-profit organizations, and a personal and business coach. In her various roles as teacher, counselor, and coach she provides a safe space for individuals to understand the “limits to growth” that impede their development. Karen nurtures her students personal mastery, self knowledge, and capacity for skillful action in personal and professional relationships. She is a trained facilitator, a certified mediator, an experienced educator, a certified Enneagram teacher. She has facilitated organizational learning and coached both individuals and teams in large corporations. Karen served as a lead teacher and Board President at the Institute for the Advancement of Service in Alexandria, VA., and has a Master’s Degree from George Washington University.

Rev. Lynnaea Brinkerhoff has significant experience in designing and implementing personal and organizational effectiveness interventions. Lynnea coaches and guides using the natural flow and opportunities available within the client's organizational structure and culture. Her professional experiences range from revitalizing aging multinational organizations to structuring new small businesses. Lynnea is skilled at long-term executive coaching, mediating conflicts between individuals and departments, and designing a complete team-based environment. Lynnea also has led strategic planning and performance management programs and conducted executive searches.Lynnea received her Masters in Organization Development from Pepperdine University's MSOD program and a B.A. in International Business from Simmons College.

Rev. Elisa Novick, MSS, does profound work as a healer, teacher, counselor, coach, minister, and facilitator of workshops and trainings in personal, professional, and spiritual development. What is the Focus of this Sacred Leadership Intensive?
In this weekend intensive we will explore the national, ethnic, religious and family patterns that were part of our upbringing. We will explore the degree to which these patterns serve us or limit us, and begin to understand the depth of the unconscious emotional hold they have on us. At the same time we will unearth the many ways that our language and patterns of speech keep us unaware of how our so called objective perceptions are almost always patterned projections. Interfaith Events in NYC on 9/11

Here's an update from One Spirit 2nd year student Lisa Bellan-Boyer on interfaith events happening on Sept 11th in NYC.

Thank you all for your prayers and support over the past weeks. Here are some links to media stories and coverage of some of the interfaith events around the WTC site over the anniversary and in the face of the magnified controversy over Park 51.

The newly-formed coalition, NY Neighbors for American Values (for more info: http://nyneighbors.or g/) really came together and it was a big success -- over 2,000 people attended, by all consensus of the crowd estimates. Attached is a camera photo taken from the stage by one of the staff members of Common Cause, so you can see what it looked like.

The church in the background is Old St. Peter's, the oldest Roman Catholic church in Manhattan, and the place where the "New Rugged Cross" resides, along the Church Street side of the building.

One Spirit Interfaith Seminary was named aloud from the mic as part of the long list (more than 115) organizations that have signed on as supporters of the Park 51 Project in Lower Manhattan -- that was great. I wore my stole and my whites. Rev. Julia, from St. Paul & St. Andrew United Methodist Church, an alumna of One Spirit and recent speaker, was also there, and Debbie Almontaser is one of the organizers of NY Neighbors. It was good to see them.

On Sunday evening, Park 51 hosted a film screening of a documentary for Unity Productions called: "Talking Through Walls" and I was blessed by an invitation to participate as a small group facilitator. Brad Learmonth, my study group mate, also came.

I participated (along with Anne Marie from the class of 2010) in the rainy Interfaith Walk for Religious Liberty earlier that afternoon, starting from Old St. Peter's Church, and with the helping hands of others, carried my One Spirit banner with the interfaith symbols that I took home from the bookstore after Intensive last June. Many people took photos of it and asked from where it came.

It got damp during the march, and so I draped it over the stair rail to dry out, in the (ever-so triumphalist and monumental ex-Burlington Coat Factory) main room of Park 51 -- and a picture of it got into the article!

Focusing on the Spirit Module in our Mentors and Ministers Programs

So how do we encompass everything into a scalable, coherent practice for your growth? That is the genius of ILP.

We have chosen INTEGRAL LIFE PRACTICE: A 21st Century Blueprint for Physical Health, Emotional Balance, Mental Clarity, and Spiritual Awakening as one of the 2 required texts for the STATES AND STAGES course which begins Oct. 16-17, 2010 at One Spirit. An INTEGRAL LIFE PRACTICE, known as an "ILP", is a personal growth program that lives with you throughout your life, every day, and changes as you change in developing to your fullest capacities. As you live within these practices, you come to embrace your greatest freedom from the world of suffering, limitation, and insufficiency, and also to embrace your greatest fullness of being in the world to act and contribute as a coherent self no hindered by fragmented and repressed parts of yourself.

In the text you will notice that we begin with the 4 core parts of our being that have succinct practices by which to generate this freedom and fullness which we seek. To make this huge topic manageable, the text speaks of them as "modules", and so we work within the modules separately and in cross-training. The 4 core modules are body, mind, spirit and shadow. There are also ethics, relationships, work, parenting, creativity, and more that we can attend to according to your personal needs and desires.

Although there are all of these parts of an ILP that we will cover during the course and the programs, we focus on them through the lens of the Spirit module.
To quote directly from the ILP book on the Spirit module,

"One of the main reasons many people engage an ILP is for higher awareness. While ILP encompasses numerous forms of practice and can serve a variety of goals and motivations, it is quintessentially about waking up. And for most of human history, waking up has been about realizing Spirit in the midst of ordinary life."

As we decided on the focus of our Mentors and Ministers Programs, we selected that which is most essential for you to create a cohesive, coherent life, lived moment by moment. The wisdom traditions that have been embedded within our religions give us the finest guides as to how to wake up and live an ethical and wise life. But in carving out the essential wisdom and the core practices that originate therefrom, we have to perform a type of expert delicate laser surgery.

People say they want to be "spiritual but not religious", so out goes what they consider to be the "dogma", and that which they perceive as "dogma" might be essential to the larger context of the spiritual wisdom they are trying to learn. It can create a type of spiritual/religious malpractice, botched surgery that can lead to ugly scars that require more profound reconstructive surgery later.

How do they know what is "dogma" precisely? Is it anything that requires a daily practice? prayer? saying something in a language they do not understand? making them self-conscious as they bow/kneel/cross themselves?

Our programs will use the Integral framework to perform this delicate surgery, within the widest possible context of faith and science, belief and reason, ritual and choice. And as an added bonus, it will be performed as an individualized procedure, as all good surgeries should be.

What will remain for you? Essential spirituality, the core teachings, injunctions, and practices with which you resonate and which will serve to propel you along your next growth edge. But by being Integral, we are not going to limit ourselves to the wisdom traditions alone. One of the core teachings of Integral is that we transcend all of life and include all of life while using constantly refined discernment.

The prayers used in our ancient traditions have been around since well before the scientific revolution, and they have great wisdom surrounding them. But modern scientific studies have added great wisdom as to how our conscious and unconscious minds work in conjunction with our bodies, and they deserve inclusion. What has become known as the postmodern period has shined a light on those aspects of our selves, our cultures, and the natural world that have been ignored and repressed, so we must take those into consideration as well.

So how do we encompass literally everything into a scalable and coherent practice that is personalized for your growth? That is the genius of the ILP. And since we are interested in One Spirit with the awakening of that One Spirit in self and community, we will address all of the modules by shining them through the Spirit practices.

Lynne D. Feldman
Lynne D. Feldman, M.A., J.D., is Co-Director of the Integral programs and Director of Integral Education at One Spirit. She has been ordained by the Order of Universal Interfaith (OUnI) as a Wisdom Keeper of the Integral spiritual path; she will be ordained by OUnI as clergy; and enters an ordination path at One Spirit. Lynne worked closely with Ken Wilber at Integral Institute for three years where she started the Center for Integral Education and worked on the possibility of an Integral university where she was designated to be vice-chancellor. She has been published in the Journal of Integral Theory and Practice, is on its editorial board, and is an Integral Scholar. Joanne Rubin
Joanne Rubin, has taught classes on Integral theory at many places including One Spirit, Montague House, and other New York groups. She is CEO of Integral Educational Consultants and Director of the community service organization Stories for Sailors. Her work creating the Teen Freedom Corps won her praise from the White House, national media, and her community. Lynne was named to the NJ Character Education Commission and served as Chair of the Character Education Action Network. She is a court certified matrimonial and a civil mediator in New Jersey, and as a practicing attorney she is involved with Alternative Dispute Resolution. Joanne Rubin, Ph.D. is a psychologist in private practice, a teacher, and writer on Integral theory and its applications. Her training includes Integral Institute’s week-long and weekend workshops, professional supervision, and individual coaching with Wilber’s core trainers, and also in part, Ken Wilber himself. She co-sponsored/hosted Wilber’s two visits to NYC in 2007 and 2008. She is helping to flesh out Integral theory, to make it more useful and clear to students, presenting papers at the 2008 and 2010 Integral Theory conferences at JFK University in California. An occasional peer reviewer for the Journal of Integral Theory and Practice, she has written on lifelong emotional and ego development, connecting the feelings of emotional states to spiritual feelings, especially in later psychological development. She feels that Wilber’s map of the evolution and development of consciousness bridges science and spirit, and she wishes to pass on to others the gifts that Wilber passed on to her.

This six-evening course will be an opportunity to explore together Wayne Teasdale’s nine elements of a mature interspirituality (actualized moral capacity, solidarity with all living beings, deep nonviolence, humility, spiritual practice, mature self-knowledge, simplicity of life, selfless service and compassionate action, and the prophetic voice) not only conceptually, but more importantly in a deeply self-reflective way, in the company of like-minded, like-hearted fellow journeyers. The course will be held one evening a month from November through April. The monthly classes, held at One Spirit, will also be video-streamed live on the internet and available as audiobook downloads for those taking the course. Class sessions will be facilitated by Dr. Kurt Johnson and Rev. Diane Berke, with teaching during specific sessions by Andrew Harvey, Loch Kelly, and Dena Merriam.

One Spirit’s InterSpiritual Counseling Program

Gain the professional skills to be an InterSpiritual Counselor and change the way
you approach every conversation and relationship in your life.

Each session opens you to how the Divine wants to work through you. This part-time program is designed for working adults and consists of four semesters of course work, practice counseling sessions, and personal spiritual counseling and supervision. Courses start in September and February. OSIS alumni need only to register (no application is needed).

Our beloved retreat center, which has hosted our year end intensives for many years, is closing its doors in December.

Our beloved retreat center in Riverdale, which has hosted our year-end intensives for many years, is closing its doors in December. This has called for an immediate change in location for our 2011 intensives.

We are very excited to announce the new location for our intensives: Mount St. Alphonsus Retreat Center. Mount St. Alphonsus is situated on 400 acres, offering woodlands, fields, ponds, and wildlife, on property which backs up to the Hudson River. At the leading edges of human consciousness, the outlines of the next historically significant stage of cultural development are beginning to come into view. Some call this new stage of consciousness and shared values the “integral worldview,” while others are calling it the “evolutionary worldview.” How do these worldviews differ? Where do they converge? And will we eventually need to choose one over the other to bring the next stage into being?

Many conscious individual feel called, vocationally, by something far beyond the common cultural mind of our time. These two words, "Integral" and "Evolutionary" each describe key aspects of a new sensibility that has begun to spontaneously emerge at the leading edge of consciousness and culture. Our world has entered a crisis that calls each of us, personally to something truly new. Old forms of philosophy, spirituality, activism, and entrepreneurial- ism are insufficient. A new ethos is called for, one that integrates the best of leading edge philosophical insight, spiritual depth, social activism, and entrepreneurial innovation.

Terry will take a look at what's currently emerging in each of these (interrelated but sometimes distinct) movements - the "Evolutionary" and "Integral" movements. He will lead us in experiential processes through which we will connect with the emergent consciousness, clarity, power, and passion that is expressing itself through both of them. We'll make a direct energetic connection with that evolutionary impulse, and experience how it can inspire and empower us to live life on a higher octave.
