The Boondocks is back for a 3rd season

The Boondocks will be returning to television for a third season on Adult Swim after a two year hiatus. It was announced by creator Aaron McGruder on his MySpace page.

Nothing official has been announced by Adult Swim yet, so this can only be taken with a grain of salt. On the other hand, the creator of the show could be considered a fairly reliable source. McGruder did mention on Twitter that an airdate was determined but wasn’t allowed to say exactly when it was.

If you’ve never watched The Boondocks, I urge you to try and catch it online. It’s funny, but not in an in-your-face sight-gag sort of way. The humor is more intelligent and subtle than anything on Fox’s Sunday night lineup. The show is an example of personality-driven humor (in this case of the African-American variety) meeting the anime style of cartoon and is the best example that I know of the merging of East and West animation.

The Boondocks
is an extremely uproarious TV show that has kept the fans waiting after the conclusion of its season two on March 23, 2008. Since there were no immediate announcements regarding its renewal, many started to believe that their dreams to have another season of The Boondocks have been shattered. However, Aaron McGruder’s (creator of the show) declaration that another season was under production and is due to be released in early 2010, came as a pleasant surprise for its fans. Regina King, the voice over of “The Boondocks” has got a new partner in upcoming season of southland, who is quite aggressive and makes her go crazy. I wish her best of luck to cop up with not only criminals but her new partner also. She is better known as an actress but also famous for campaigning for Obama in elections. She was his one of the prominent supporter and said, “So it’s just, it’s a very grass roots way to get the world out. And you know it’s how Obama started his campaign and that’s how he’s been winning the last few primaries, by not forgetting about the so called little people.”

Best known for “The Boondocks”, Regina King has been nominated several times for her perfect presentation of the character and won Best Actress award by BET Award and NAACP Image Award for the movie ‘Ray’. Nowadays, she is busy in ‘Our Family Wedding’, which is going to be released next year. Her sister, Reina King, is also famous like her in the glamour world. Both sisters share ‘Queen’ as same meaning of their names but the only trick is that her name means queen in Latin and her sister’s in Spanish.

Regina started her acting career quite early in life at the age of 14 years in a television show ‘227′, which proved to be a mega hit situational comedy drama. She played the role of ‘Marla Gibbs’ continuously for five years until the show was closed. Since then she has worked in lots and lots of movies, television and stage shows.

Regina is one of my favorite actresses and I love to watch her movies and shows. Basically, I love her voice more than her looks because whatever she says is full with emotions and make the words present more than their actual meaning. No doubt, that is the reason why she was selected to give her voice for two main characters, Riley and Huey freeman in “The Boondocks”. The show received great love from fans during its run.

Official? boondocks season 3 announcement???

Throughout this week a little after midnight Adult Swim has been announcing that they have been getting some of the scripts for the 3rd season of the Boondocks and that they were awesome. This commercial which is made in there trademark slideshow advertising then went on to post :

Boondocks season 3: Early 2010.

If this is an offficial announcement it debunks earlier rumors that the 3rd season of the series would air in the fall. No word yet about the supposed Boondocks Movie.

The Good news: More Boondocks are on the way, and Ceasar’s charachter will proably make his debut this season.

The Bad news: We will have to wait till next year to see it.

What Makes The Boondocks My Personal Favorite?

I first got addicted to The Boondocks when I came across it in the form of a comic strip and so when I heard that the comic strip was being turned into a television series, my joy knew no bounds. I was waiting in front of my television set, glued to my chair (I guess I could be removed from that chair at that time only if the earth turned upside down), waiting for the first episode of the series to start. And after that I never missed even a single episode of the animated series. I was there promptly at sharp 11:30 p.m. every Sunday with the channel tuned to Cartoon Networks Adult Swim waiting for The Boondocks. However I am really disappointed that the series has not been revived after last year when it finished airing Season 2. But I guess there is still hope that my favorite cartoon will return to the small screen as nothing has been officially said about the series and there are ample examples of series that have made a comeback even two years after their last season was aired.

But anyhow, today I am here to tell you about the reasons that make The Boondocks one of my most loved cartoons. Well, to start with, The Boondocks did not have to be introduced to the audiences as it was already popular in the form of a comic strip. Most of the audiences were already aware of most of the characters as well as their backgrounds. Secondly, the humor of the show which resulted from the antics and sometime semantics of the lead characters Huey, Riley and Grandpa, was good enough to keep people attentive towards the show as they also received a loud and clear message through this witty animation. Also The Boondocks stirred up an upheaval of sorts for its fiery political expression, pervasive language, sexual content, and frequent and unrepentant use of the N-word, which was quite hard hitiing to a particular section of our society. Many people have criticized the show for being crap and have not let go of any opportunity to decry what they see and make big scenes in magazines, newspapers, and television. But I tend to disagree with them as I feel that The Boondocks TV Show rocks!
