Like other popular destinations across the country and around the world, Orlando, FL has been adversely affected by the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak.

When Walt Disney spoke about a new theme park coming to Florida, aside from the Magic Kingdom, he spoke of a new kind of theme park where he envisioned a new type of community. A utopian city of the future, EPCOT, Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, opened October 1, 1982. Unable to get funding for this project with out the start of the Magic Kingdom building along with his passing his dream for EPCOT was never realized.

“EPCOT will be an experimental prototype community of tomorrow that will take its cue from the new ideas and new

technologies that are now emerging from the creative centers of American industry. It will be a community of tomorrow that

will never be completed, but will always be introducing and testing and demonstrating new materials and systems. And EPCOT

will always be a showcase to the world for the ingenuity and imagination of American free enterprise.” – Walt Disney

As it opened, EPCOT, consisted of two areas, Future World and the World Showcase. Each area had Pavilions, Future World consisted of Journey into Imagination Pavilion, The Land Pavilion, Communicore East, Communicore West, Universe of Energy Pavilion, and World of Motion Pavilion. And of course Spaceship Earth, which has become the focal point of the park. Each area had it’s form of attraction, whether E-ticket or not. Most pavilions only had films and a display from the area’s sponsor. For example the Land Pavilion had the Listen to the Land attraction which was sponsored by Kraft.

While over in the World Showcase we found ourselves in 9 different countries. All of which are still here today. Canada, United Kingdom, France, Japan, The American Adventure, Italy, Germany, China and Mexico. Morocco was added in 1984 and the last addition Norway was added in 1988. All are the same as when they opened, a few shops, a video which shows views on their country and a restaurant or two. Other than adding an attraction or two and updating the exterior and interior of some of these countries not much else has changed, until now.

Two changed had previously been announce and already in full force on becoming complete. One being Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and the other Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. But that wasn’t where the new EPCOT would end. During D23 this year it was announce that multiple changes would be coming to EPCOT. Let’s start in the front of the park, there would be no more Future World. The EPCOT Future World as we once knew it was now going to have 3 different neighborhoods, World Discovery, World Celebration and World Nature.

World Discovery will now house the new Guardian’s of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction, the new Play Pavilion, this is was previously the Wonder’s of Life Pavilion, a New Space themed restaurant called Space 220. Along with things already in the area as Test Track and Mission: Space. The next area is the main entrance which will now be World Celebration. If you are in need of discount Disney tickets or any other central Florida theme park tickets, please contact local ticket broker, The Official Ticket Center for the best prices around.

As frequent Walt Disney World visitors can tell you, transportation to and from the parks seems to be lacking. Traffic is bound to happen when there are over 52 million visitors per year! Because of that Disney has decided to do something to help alleviate some of the congestion, Disney’s Skyliner. Once a attraction in the Magic Kingdom, now this was to be a mode of transportation from select lucky resorts and 2 theme parks. Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney’s newest DVC resort, Riviera , would be sharing the Disney’s Skyliner to take guest to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT.

Visiting these parks is now made to be easier. While bus transportation to these parks will still be available, Disney’s Skyliner adds a magical experience. After recently riding in one I can say it will now be my favorite mode of transportation to and from the parks to my resort. Each ride can vary but expect 15-20 mins from the time you jump onboard to the time you transfer, if you need to, to the time you reach your destination. Of course this is not including wait times to get onto Disney’s Skyliner, it should make it easier for you to get there. In my recent experience I rode from Disney’s Pop/Disney’s Art of Animation station going over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Coming onboard was easy. These are continuously moving, although at a slow speed. If someone in your party is in a wheelchair or has a mobility issue there are special cabins that are pulled aside for easier boarding. They are beautifully wrapped, some in bright colors, others in various Disney Characters. Each Disney’s Skyliner cabin fits 10 people. Most of the concern was to be the lack of air conditioning, once onboard we realized how cool it actually was inside. The breeze from the Skyliner moving is enough to make you feel very comfortable in the 15 to 20 minute ride. However if your Skyliner does come to a complete stop it will get warm quickly. We very much enjoyed the views from up high. The first part of our trip was short, going from Disney’s POP/Art of Animation station to Disney’s Caribbean Beach resort station.

At the transfer station, where we would transfer to either EPCOT or Hollywood Studios, signs are clearly posted letting you which Skyliner you will be wanting to board. It is a quick process to board and deboard and board again. The process goes pretty quick same as when you first board. The ride is quiet and peaceful. Great for children, but if there is a fear of heights you may not want to look down. Once arriving at Hollywood Studios. It is easy to get to the front gate!

If you are staying at one of the resorts with access to the Disney Skyliner, then you have a great advantage to get to and from Hollywood Studios and Epcot! And I greatly recommend them. Fast and efficient and they cut down on bus time as well!

In August of 2015, Disney CEO, Bob Iger made an announcement that had every Star Wars fan excited. There was to be a Land created in both Disneyland Park in California and Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Black Spire Outpost in Batuu was to be the location we were set off to visit in the Star Wars Galaxy. While it was not a known area of many fans, people were still excited for it. Construction began and we began to become more excited for it. For 3 years we waited and now in August of 2019 it finally opened. For the newcomers of Star Wars or ones who had never seen a movie this is a land that everyone can to enjoy.

Setting foot in Batuu you can feel the change in the atmosphere. You are no longer walking around a Hollywood Studios, but in a different Galaxy. Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge to be exact. “Bright Suns” you’ll hear from the local Batuu residents, all of which are eager to show you their favorite things in the land. From special merchandise items only found in the land to amazing food and drinks. You can spend plenty of time walking through the marketplace. Don’t forget to try the blue or green milk! Looking around you see X-wings, Droids and their parts, a Tie-Fighter in an area you know is meant for Empire. You can interact with your favorite Wookie, and make sure you keep an eye out to see another known Rebel around, as well as one not so known. They are happy to take you around and show you some hiding spots from those pesky patrolling Storm Troopers.

Once you get deeper in the land you see the one thing everyone who is a Star Wars fan has always wanted to see, the Millennium Falcon, and here in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge you get that chance. It’s the best hunk of junk you’ve ever seen. Looking at her you know it’s exactly what you thought it would look like in real life. She’s big and beautiful. It doesn’t stop there. You can actually board her and take her for a spin! Who hasn’t dreamed of pulling that lever and going into lightspeed? Or being a gunner on the ship? That’s exactly the experience you’ll get onboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. On a cargo run for the rebellion, you’re on a mission and on the run from the Empire knowing they’ll do what they can to stop you. Walking on to the Falcon you can see and feel like you’re actually on the real one. Be aware if lights and sounds start blaring make sure you hit the red button!

All in all, Star War’s Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios takes you out of the normal Disney theme park and into a fully immersive land where any kind of Star Wars fan can appreciate it.

Orlando, Fla. (September 12, 2019) – Today, SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay revealed details regarding NEW attractions coming to the parks in 2020. This marks the first time in four years that both parks have launched new coasters in the same year, in addition to a new water slide in Tampa. SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Pass Members will be among the first to experience the new attractions.

Iron Gwazi – Opening Spring 2020 at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

A NEW legend is surfacing in 2020 at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay with the evolution of Iron GwaziTM, North America’s tallest, and the fastest, and steepest hybrid coaster in the world. Manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction, Iron Gwazi will be 206 feet tall, feature a 91-degree drop, and reach top speeds of 76 miles per hour. The journey will include three inversions and 12 airtime hills as it races along more than 4,075 feet of purple steel track. With a 48” height requirement, Iron Gwazi will be an exciting thrill attraction that families can take on together.

“Iron Gwazi is the evolution of a classic wooden coaster into a modern icon,” said Stewart Clark, Park President of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. “From the bones of the original Gwazi, a new legend rises, reaching taller heights and faster speeds, delivering the next-level thrills that our coaster fans crave and expect from Busch Gardens.”

While elements of the former wooden attraction will be integrated into the new ride, the steel track and reimagined layout of Iron Gwazi present an entirely unique experience that tells a different story. Iron Gwazi will highlight the best of both worlds — the classic nostalgia of a wooden coaster and the bold innovation of a steel coaster. Thriving and adapting over millions of years, this evolutionary crossroad is perfectly represented in the crocodile, the largest living reptile and the animal inspiration for Iron Gwazi.

Solar Vortex – Opening Spring 2020 at Adventure Island

Spin and splash at Adventure Island on Solar VortexTM — America’s first dual-tailspin water slide. This thrilling family raft slide combines high-banking rotations and rapid descents, sending sliders on a swirling journey through two open tailspin features. Manufactured by Whitewater, Solar Vortex will also include three dynamic AquaLucent elements — harnessing the power of the Florida sun into colorful patterns that shine through the slide as riders reach speeds of up to 20 miles per hour. Solar Vortex will be an electrifying new ride for families next year when it opens with the 2020 Adventure Island season.

Ice Breaker – Opening Spring 2020 at SeaWorld Orlando

Making its debut in spring 2020, riders will shiver through family friendly adventures on SeaWorld Orlando’s first launch coaster: Ice Breaker. Named after the icy Arctic summits, Ice Breaker will feature four launches, both backwards and forwards, culminating in a reverse launch into the steepest beyond vertical drop in Florida — a 93-foot tall spike with 100-degree angle.

Located near the Wild Arctic Attraction, the ride’s theme is reflective of this area with a nod to Ice Breaker’s conservation partner, Alaska SeaLife Center. Primarily dedicated to marine research, education and wildlife response, the Alaska SeaLife Center mission matches closely to SeaWorld Orlando’s, making them a perfect partner to help educate riders about the Artic and its inhabitants.

“The Alaska SeaLife Center is excited to grow our partnership with SeaWorld. For many years, SeaWorld has been a stalwart supporter of the Center, and particularly our Wildlife Response program,” said Tara L. Riemer, President and CEO of Alaska SeaLife Center. “We are grateful for SeaWorld’s contributions of funding and staff over the years to further our mission. This new collaboration will continue efforts to highlight Arctic rescue and conservation stories.”

The opening of Ice Breaker is the perfect addition to SeaWorld’s ever-growing ride portfolio. From the roller coaster thrills of Mako, Manta and Kraken, to the water rapids of Infinity Falls and the flume fun of Journey to Atlantis, Ice Breaker joins the park’s famed attractions as a must-do experience in Orlando.

Best value for Floridians – Enjoy all NEW rides with an Annual Pass!

With three ALL-NEW attractions to enjoy, there has never been a better time to be a SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Annual Pass Member. Upon the launch of each attraction, Pass Members will enjoy EXCLUSIVE RIDE TIME on Iron Gwazi, Ice Breaker and Solar Vortex.

For 2020, the best value for Floridians is the FOUR PARK PASS, which includes admission to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, Adventure Island, SeaWorld Orlando and Aquatica Orlando. In addition to exciting NEW rides coming next spring, guests who purchase an annual pass today can enjoy fan-favorite events included with their park admission in Orlando and Tampa. In the fall, there’s Sesame Street Kids’ Weekends and Halloween Spooktacular. Then, as the holidays draw near, visitors can experience the magic of Christmas Town and SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration. And for culinary connoisseurs, the spring brings the Food &Wine Festival and the Seven Seas Food Festival to the parks.
You know if you had asked me this question a few years ago I might have sad no just because Universal had not yet filled their parks with attraction rides to the level of what Disney had in its arsenal. But this is definitely not the case in point now a days! Today’s Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure are like no other parks in Orlando and now that they have created what I consider the Best water park in Florida, Volcano Bay, it looks like this once small side attraction to Disney has found it’s footing and the future looks very promising to say the least.

There was a time when you could go over to Universal for as little as $45 a day back in 2000 but that about what it was worth in ride currency. There wasn’t much to do and it was a park that you could pretty much do justice within three quarters of the day. As time and profits rose and a acquisition here and there the park began to transform as well as it’s footprint on the Orlando real estate map. Talks of expansion and new theme parks were the buzz and sure enough, a new sister park was born, Islands of Adventure. This was going to be their throwing of the gauntlet at Disney’s front door step and Disney heard it very clear the Universal was here to stay!

The one thing Universal needed was something to call their own and many ideas were thrown around until a deal was struck with a new and upcoming little writer, J. K. Rowling who wrote a little fiction book called, “Harry Potter”. This would be the biggest thing to hit the Orlando area since, well Disney came to town. Disney was pretty stagnant during this time so this woke a lot of people up there and listening intently. Universal was in it to win it and Disney was left to come up with something of their own i.e. Avatar.

To have the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at their Islands of Adventure park, Universal came up with a brilliant idea, why have one when you can have two. This would be the beginning of something wonderful, especially as the Harry Potter movie franchise became the new Star Wars of a younger generation and is still continuing to grow to this day with all of the other off shoot movies. Each time a new book or movie comes out, they are incorporated in these magical worlds and shared with the fans who love and adore the characters created within.

So to end my praises of what has been created by Universal Orlando compared to what was and what has become, yes I would say that spending multiple days at Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios is and should be on your planning books. I would even go so far as spending 3 days there to include their newest and best water park in Orlando, Volcano Bay. I love Disney and will always be a true fan, but fun is to be had all around this town and Universal is here to stay with their world class parks and attractions.

Serving up an irresistible combo of good times and warm sunshine, Orlando is the perfect place for a family vacation. But with so much fun stuff to see and do near Disney, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Here are five tips to make sure your first trip to Orlando runs without a hitch!

Plan ahead – but don’t try to see it all!

Should you spend your whole vacation at Disney, visiting each of the different parks? Or should you focus on trying to see a few key attractions, with days off for shopping and water parks in between? There’s no right or wrong way to tackle a trip to Orlando, but whichever approach you decide to go for, it’s important to plan ahead.

Try to draw up a rough plan before you go, with the whole family’s ‘must-see’ attractions high up on the list. To make sure you have enough time (and cash!) for these, you might want to buy your attraction tickets in advance. It’s also a good idea to look at one of the many crowd calendars available online, so you can see which days tend to be busiest at each theme park.

Once you’ve ticked off the top sights, you can then work some of your second-choice attractions and activities into the time you have left. Walking around the theme parks and waiting in line can be surprisingly tiring, so it’s worth leaving some time over for chilling by the pool. You’ll be thankful for it when you come home feeling rested and relaxed!

Stay somewhere special

Not thrilled by the idea of staying at a dreary motel on International Drive? Well how about something completely different? The Disney area is packed with fun and unusual places to stay, including private villas that come with their own outdoor swimming pools.

At some of the best vacation rentals, like those offered by local experts Top Villas, you’ll have the chance to enjoy incredible private amenities. Guests can test their skills in zany game rooms, spend the night in beautiful themed bedrooms, and kick back in front of Hollywood blockbusters in their very own multi-seater movie theaters.

Staying at one of these high-end mansions isn’t just for the super rich; if you’re sharing with a few others, the per-person rates are often better than you’d get at a run-of-the-mill motel!

Get off the tourist trail

It’s famous for its tourist attractions, but you shouldn’t forget that Orlando is a living, breathing city. And there are loads of opportunities for getting off the tourist trail in and around the City Beautiful, without needing to break the bank.

Fans of golf will want to make a beeline for TopGolf Orlando, a local hangout that combines a high-tech driving range with an arcade, a restaurant and full-service bar. If you’re more into music and the arts, and you fancy getting a glimpse of Orlando’s creative underbelly, time your visit to coincide with the annual Immerse festival (mid October). Alternatively, for breweries, offbeat shops and independent restaurants, head to Downtown DeLand Historic District – it’s a 45-minute drive north of downtown Orlando.

Take a couple of day trips

To get a feel for Florida life beyond the theme parks, make time for a couple of day trips. If you base yourself near Disney and have your own vehicle, you’ll be within easy reach of some of the state’s best beaches and state parks. You’ll also be within striking distance of some quirky coastal towns, many of them perfect for surfing, seafood and sunset cocktails.

One of the best day trips you can make from Orlando is to the Blue Spring State Park, where you have the chance to go kayaking, snorkeling or tubing in the crystal clear springs. You might also spot some of the manatees that congregate here from November to mid-March. It’s around an hour’s drive northeast from the Magic Kingdom.

If you’re up for a longer excursion, try the 100-mile round trip to the Kennedy Space Center on Florida’s east coast. Time your trip just right and you might get the chance to meet a real astronaut – or even catch a rocket launch!

Pack carefully – but don’t bring too much!

The Sunshine State is usually warm and err… sunny, but sometimes it can rain. Even though these downpours tend to be short-lived (unless you arrive during hurricane season) it still pays to pack a poncho or two. These can also be handy if you’re planning to check out some splash rides but don’t fancy staying wet for an hour or two afterwards.

And just because it’s usually hot in the daytime, that doesn’t mean you might not get a little cold at night. This is especially true during the winter months, so pack a couple of sweaters just in case. Remember that you can bring too much, though! And who knows? Forgetting something might just give you the perfect excuse to check out some of the awesome outlets in Orlando…
The post 5 tips for your first trip to Orlando first appeared on The Official Ticket Center.

And here are some new details about NBA Experience we’re sharing for the first time:

When your Guests enter NBA Experience, they’ll feel like they’re walking through the players’ tunnel out onto the court at an NBA or WNBA arena.

A ticket to NBA Experience grants your Guests access to every activity in any order they choose, and they can return to stations multiple times to try and improve their performance or learn more about the game, the players and the teams they love.

In an activity that tests shooting skills, spots will light up on the court as your Guests move from one location to another attempting to sink as many shots as possible in 15 seconds.

In a slam dunk challenge, your Guests can change the height of a standard 10-foot-tall rim to as low as seven feet so they can perform their own superstar moves – captured by burst photography.

Your Guests can see how they stack up to some of the world’s best basketball players by measuring vertical leap, wingspan, and shooting and dribbling skills.

Various activities can be personalized with your Guest’s name and associated with their favorite NBA or WNBA teams, and their stats will be tracked just like a real pro game.

Real-time technology will aggregate stats of NBA and WNBA games and players for continuous updates, while leaderboards will show top NBA Experience performers throughout the day.

We’ll have more details on NBA Experience leading up to its grand opening, so stay tuned for updates.

Sesame Street at SeaWorld Orlando, which brings all of the fun, laughter and learning of Sesame Street to the Orlando park in a highly interactive and immersive way, officially opens today. The land features the iconic Sesame Street neighborhood including Abby Cadabby’s Garden, Big Bird’s Nest, Mr. Hooper’s Store and the famous 123 Stoop, as well as everyone’s favorite Sesame Street friends.

Sesame Street’s Elmo, Abby Cadabby and Rosita kicked off the opening at a special preview event earlier this week. The debut of this highly-anticipated, six-acre world class attraction is the largest Sesame Street land inside of any of the SeaWorld parks and an exciting part of Sesame Street’s year-long 50th anniversary celebration.

“We are thrilled to officially welcome guests to walk down Sesame Street for the very first time in the theme park capital of the world,” said Mark Pauls, President of SeaWorld Orlando. “This highly-anticipated, immersive new land is the largest Sesame Street land inside of any of our SeaWorld parks. With over 30 new ways to play and an award-winning parade, this is a new land that guests of all ages will love, and we are excited to share it with the world.”

“Theme parks represent one of the most powerful ways for families to engage with and delight in the Sesame Street characters,” said Scott Chambers, Senior Vice President/General Manager, North America Media and Licensing, Sesame Workshop (the nonprofit educational organization behind the iconic brand). “Sesame Street at SeaWorld Orlando will enable us to establish deeper connections with even more families while helping the Workshop sustain its nonprofit and educational mission.”

Sesame Street at SeaWorld Orlando brings together fun and learning through several educational interactive experiences. Elmo’s Window invites guests to play, dance, and sing with everybody’s favorite furry red monster and his friends. In Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck Challenge, guests follow video instructions to whip up some delicious meals with Cookie Monster and Gonger.

In addition, Sesame Street at SeaWorld Orlando includes six colorful, themed rides: Abby’s Flower Tower, Cookie Drop!, Slimey’s Slider, Big Bird’s Twirl ‘n’ Whirl, Elmo’s Choo Choo Train and Super Grover’s Box Car Derby. Another favorite of the new land is the Rubber Duckie Water Works wet play area. Scheduled daily highlights in the neighborhood include Storytime with Big Bird at his nest and the award-winning Sesame Street Party Parade. This celebration features Elmo, Big Bird and all of their friends, colorful floats, and special surprises along the way.

No visit is complete without a bite to eat! Sesame Street at SeaWorld Orlando serves up fun favorites at Eats on the Street, where food trucks and a specialty drink stand offer guests a delicious variety of healthy choices and sweet treats.

Guests can take home a little bit of the street from Mr. Hooper’s Store, which features plush characters, apparel, collectible pins, and more available only at Sesame Street at SeaWorld. For even more fun, Elmo’s Interactive Light-Up Bubble Wand unlocks hidden surprises, special effects and exclusive content throughout the street. A visit to Photos with Elmo and Friends provides backstage access to Sesame Street friends with meet and greet opportunities.

SeaWorld has been Sesame Workshop’s exclusive theme park partner in the United States for almost 40 years.
