The Bay Boys have been the center of a real media shit storm for a few months now. I’ve never surfed there (this guy did, though!) but I figure if there are this many people coming out of the woodwork with the same complaints, there’s got to be at least an element of truth to some of them. And despite the fact that if the rumors are true, the Bay Boys are nothing more than old, cranky, spoiled rich guys with a serious case of small-dick syndrome, I can see both sides of the coin. But holy shit, the newest allegation against them is a doozy!

If you don’t know the story (which you probably do, unless you’ve been in the airless, soundless void of deep space for the last five years), here it is in a nutshell, from a previous post:

Bay Boys protect wave for years.
Bay Boys throw rocks and slash tires if you’re not a “local.”
Everyone gets mad at Bay Boys.
People go to police. Police are like, “yeah, those guys are dicks! Sorry!”
People are like, “what the fuck?”
Police shrug.
Bay Boys carry on throwing rocks.
Someone sues Bay Boys.
Everyone rejoices!
Undetermined outcome.

There. Now you’re all caught up. There have been a few other little nuggets from the rumor mill, including a couple of grown men waggling their gross old dicks in the direction of a female newcomer before pouring beer on her head. Actually. Someone said that actually happened! But on to the newest allegation. Here’s a hint: it’s super racist.

Lunada ‘Bay Boys’ Surfer Gang Hit With Another Class-Action Lawsuit

A Malibu woman who alleges she was doused with beer and threatened by a group of territorial surfers in Palos Verdes Estates is among a group of plaintiffs who filed suit against the so-called Lunada Bay Boys this week in Los Angeles Superior Court.

In a class-action suit filed Thursday, Diana Milena Reed and fellow plaintiffs allege that the Bay Boys have violated the California Coastal Act by blocking public access to a coveted stretch of sand by assaulting beachgoers, vandalizing their property and threatening to kill them.

The city of Palos Verdes Estates and the city’s police chief, Jeff Kepley, are also named as defendants in the 38-page lawsuit. According to the plaintiffs, the city tolerated the alleged behavior and police did little to stop it.

The lawsuit is related to a federal class-action suit, filed by the same parties in March, that asks a judge to require the wealthy city to investigate and prosecute crimes by the Bay Boys.

Palos Verdes Estates Missed Deadline to Improve Public Access to Lunada Bay

Palos Verdes Estates, CA — The city of Palos Verdes Estates missed the Wednesday deadline to meet the California Coastal Commission’s demand to make Lunada Bay more accessible to the public, the Daily Breeze reported.

The city has only met some of the commission’s demands as of Wednesday.
Lunada Bay has become a notorious stomping ground of the aggressive group of surfers known as the Bay Boys. The commission has requested the city to improve public amenities on the bluff and address the illegally built patio on the water’s edged, according to the Breeze.

The city council has set aside time at its next meeting Tuesday to deal the patio issue and the commission will wait until then to decide how to move forward, the Breeze reported, citing an enforcement official.

Coastal Commission still waiting on Palos Verdes Estates to make Lunada Bay more welcoming

The deadline for Palos Verdes Estates to begin making changes at Lunada Bay passed Wednesday, and the city has met only some of the California Coastal Commission’s demands to start making the area more welcoming.

In a letter June 6, Coastal Commission Enforcement Agent Jordan Sanchez gave the city until July 6 to start the process of improving public access to Lunada Bay, which has become notorious as the stomping ground for a group of aggressive surfers known as the Bay Boys. In the letter, Sanchez called on the city to improve public amenities on the bluffs above the bay, and to address a long-standing, illegally built patio at the water’s edge that the commission calls a fort.

City Approves Plan to Demolish Illegal Beach Fort at Lunada Bay

Despite strong opposition by Palos Verdes residents, the city’s elected officials decided on Tuesday to move forward with the plan to demolish the illegal stone fort at Lunada Bay. The unanimous decision came shortly after the California Coastal Commission pressured the city to remove the fort occupied by “fiercely territorial surfers” or acquire permission by presenting a bevy of measures to improve public access and reduce harassment.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. (FOX 11/CNS) – The Palos Verdes Estates City Council is discussing how to remove a stone ‘fort’ along the Lunada Bay shoreline. This structure is a 30-year old party spot for the Bay Boys, a group of local surfers with a troubled reputation for harassing, intimidating and even physically assaulting out-of-towners.

Alleged attacks that have been reported include throwing rocks, having beer poured on people, tires on cars being slashed and physical attacks in the water.

Surfer Gang’s Lunada Bay Stone Fort Should Be Dismantled, City Staff Says

A stone “fort” used by a group of fiercely territorial surfers in Palos Verdes Estates should be dismantled and carted away, according to a plan developed by city staffers that will be considered by the city’s elected leaders Tuesday.

City Manager Tony Dahlerbruch is recommending the removal of the illegal structure after pressure from the California Coastal Commission and the arrival of a geo-technical report last week that confirmed the removal will not cause erosion of a nearby bluff.

“The report indicates there would be no impacts,” Dahlerbruch said.

Area surfers known as the “Bay Boys” constructed the oceanside palapa with stone and concrete decades ago and have maintained it from generation to generation.
