Tucked into the vibrant food scene of Paris, Mischief is the kind of place that throws out the rulebook and replaces it with pure flavor. This isn’t fusion food trying to impress, it’s fusion food that actually tastes amazing. Bold, playful, and deeply satisfying, every dish feels like a delicious experiment that just works.

We had the chance to sample some of their signature dishes on a cozy, rain-soaked evening. Mischief is the kind of place where fusion food doesn’t feel forced—it feels fun, a little rebellious, and seriously delicious. Their whole idea is “no rules cooking,” where comfort food from different cultures gets remixed into something unexpected but still super satisfying.

What makes their food so good and yummy is how familiar flavors meet bold twists. Chef Erica Paredes draws from a global background—Philippines, Europe, and beyond—so every dish carries layers of influence while still tasting comforting and rich.

https://ourcitytravels.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/mischief-paris.mp4

Here’s some of what we had that night.

Where comfort meets chaos (in the best way)

At Mischief, the menu reads like a culinary adventure. You’ll recognize elements from Filipino, Italian, Vietnamese, and French cuisines but they’re twisted, layered, and reimagined into something entirely new. Take the black linguine with cuttlefish ragù. It’s rich and briny, with deep ocean flavors that feel almost luxurious. It comes with crispy tentacles, adding crunch and a slightly smoky bite that contrasts perfectly with the silky pasta. It’s the kind of dish that makes you pause after the first bite, just to process how good it is.

Meat lovers, this one’s for you

Then there’s the pressed lamb, a standout that leans into slow-cooked indulgence. Tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, it’s elevated by unexpected companions : a fragrant pho sauce, bringing warm, spiced Vietnamese depth, a punchy chimichurri, herbaceous and bright. Served with rice noodles, the whole plate becomes a fusion of comfort and intensity which is light in texture but heavy on flavor. It’s familiar and surprising at the same time, which is exactly what Mischief does best.

A seafood moment you don’t expect

Another standout comes in the form of langoustine dumplings/ravioli, delicate yet packed with flavor. They’re served in a silky bisque brightened with calamansi, where the citrus cuts through the richness in the most refreshing way. A drizzle of langoustine oil intensifies the shellfish depth, while bits of longanisa (a sweet, garlicky Filipino sausage) add a surprising punch of savory sweetness. It’s a dish that feels elegant but still playful, balancing refinement with bold, comforting flavors.

A dessert you won’t forget

And then comes the Basque cheesecake with peanut butter drizzle.

Burnt on the outside, impossibly creamy on the inside, and finished with a nutty, slightly salty drizzle, it hits every note—sweet, rich, and just a little bit decadent. It’s the kind of dessert that feels comforting but still surprising, like a perfect ending to an already unforgettable meal.

The Mischief magic

What makes Mischief Paris so special isn’t just the creativity, it’s the balance. Nothing feels random. Every flavor, every texture, every twist has a purpose.

It’s fusion food that doesn’t try too hard, it just works.

And by the time you leave, one thing is clear: this isn’t just dinner. It’s an experience…one that’s bold, a little chaotic, and completely delicious.

—

On a lively stretch of Parisian pavement in Montparnasse, far from the jeepneys and fiestas of Central Luzon, the aroma of sizzling pork and garlic drifts out of a modest restaurant called Place de Manille. Inside, the hum of conversation rises above the rhythmic clang of a hot plate, where a serving of sisig crackles on cast iron. It is the sound and scent of Pampanga in the French capital.

Place de Manille was founded by Ariel Manganti, his wife, and their son Mark Manganti, the restaurant’s chef. The family hails from San Fernando, Pampanga, a province often spoken of in the Philippines with culinary reverence. Pampanga is widely regarded as the country’s unofficial food capital, a place where recipes are guarded like heirlooms and celebrations revolve around lavish spreads.

For Ariel, opening a restaurant in Paris was never a passing idea. “It has always been my life dream to own a restaurant to showcase Kapampangan food, not only to Filipinos, but to everyone,” he says.

That dream, however, did not arrive easily. Ariel and Mark have a lot of cooking experience, they built on these experiences until that time an opportunity presented itself.

https://ourcitytravels.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/de.mp4

A Taste of Pampanga in Paris

The Manganti family built Place de Manille out of what Ariel describes simply as “love for food and cooking.” In the early months, they faced the familiar struggles of any independent restaurant: sourcing authentic ingredients, building a clientele, and introducing a cuisine that remains underrepresented in Europe’s culinary mainstream.

“There were hardships at the beginning,” Ariel admits. “Starting something new in a foreign country is never easy. But we believed in our food.”

Half a year later, that belief appears to be paying off. The dining room fills steadily, a mix of homesick Filipinos, curious Parisians, other locals working near the place, and adventurous tourists who wander in seeking something beyond the usual Asian offerings of sushi and pad thai.

No Fusion, No Compromise

Unlike many immigrant restaurants that adapt recipes to suit local tastes, Place de Manille draws a firm line. There is no fusion menu here, no French reinterpretations, no toned-down spices.

“We want it authentic,” Ariel says plainly. “This is how we cook at home. This is how Pampanga tastes.”

And Pampanga tastes bold.

The menu reads like a greatest-hits collection of Filipino comfort food. The sizzling Kapampangan sisig arrives chopped and seasoned, bright with calamansi and chili. The lechon belly boasts crackling skin that shatters under a fork, made special by their homemade lechon sauce. There are platters of calamares, golden and crisp; smoky chicken barbecue inasal; and delicate, crispy okoy fritters.

Place de Manille : Homegrown Filipino Flavors in the City of Light – Lumpiang sariwa and beef stew

Hearty stews such as kare-kare, thick with peanut sauce, and the vinegary depth of chicken adobo anchor the table. Crisp lumpiang shanghai sit beside fresh, herb-filled lumpiang sariwa, offering two distinct expressions of the beloved spring roll. To drink, bright juices of guava and calamansi cut through the richness.

In the kitchen, Mark moves with quiet focus. Raised on the flavors of Pampanga, he sees his role as both cook and cultural ambassador.

“I hope Filipino cuisine can be known like other Asian dishes,” Mark says. “When people think of Asian food, they immediately think of Japanese, Thai, or Chinese. I want them to think of Filipino food too.”

More Than a Meal

On some days, Place de Manille transforms into something closer to a Filipino gathering. A live band called Paldotitos, among other performers, sets up the stage, playing familiar OPM tunes and crowd favorites. Between sets, diners are invited to take the microphone.

Visitors and regulars alike sing during the band’s pauses, some shyly, others with lively flair. For a moment, Paris feels less like Paris and more like one’s hometown in the Philippines.

The music, like the food, is unfiltered and unabashedly Filipino.

Place de Manille : Homegrown Filipino Flavors in the City of Light – Chicken inasal, pork belly, nilaga, sizzling sisig (photos by Lu an)

Building Recognition

Filipino cuisine has long existed in the shadow of its Asian neighbors on the global stage. Yet chefs and restaurateurs across the diaspora have begun pushing it into the spotlight. In Paris, a city synonymous with gastronomy, the Manganti family’s insistence on authenticity is both a risk and a statement.

Ariel says that diners come from different ethnicity and it does make one excited to see their reaction at their first taste of sisig, tentatively squeezing calamansi over the sizzling platter.

“We want them to discover who we are through our food,” he says.

Half a year after opening, Place de Manille stands as proof that pride, persistence, and pork (plenty of pork) can carve out a space even in one of the world’s most competitive culinary capitals.

For the Mangantis, the journey from San Fernando to Paris is measured not only in kilometers but in dishes served, songs sung, and a growing recognition that Filipino food belongs on the global table.

We love cats. We have three male cats that we adopted in February and March of 2017 (Happy Adoptiversary our dear furbabies, albeit a bit late). The first two are both ragdolls, Iron is a bluepoint while Leon is a bicolor sealpoint. We got them one sunny-Saturday that February. They were way bigger than the cats we’ve taken care of. As ragdolls, they tend to limp when carried. ^_^ Minos, the biggest of them is a maine coon, and we got him in March. They are from the same owner, but I don’t know why Minos was given away later than along with the first two.

This post gets updated whenever we visit a new cat café. Latest update : February 2026

Having them made our life different and kinder. Kinder in the sense that we became aware of their sensitivities, making the home a good place for them to be around. In hindsight, the cats made us relax, as they are known to. So, in being in love with our cats, we’ve learned their language now. Meeoow! Kidding aside, we try to visit cat cafès that are near us. And we plan to visit more in the future, not just in Europe but around the world. We will update this post as we get to visit the other cafés. ^_^

Cat Cafés For Relaxing and Awareness

Cat Cafés are themed cafés where patrons can watch and interact (play, touch) with cats. It’s like a pet rental where you get to enjoy coffee, tea, shakes and cakes with cats as house residents. Some cafés, especially in Japan, has an entrance fee that’s good for certain hours, others per hour, and includes a set meal of pastry and drink. Generally, the rule is to do not engage with the cats if they are asleep. Or “respect cat space.” Cat cafés are after all, their abode. You can silently drink your coffee and pet a cat that comes near you. You can also buy them treats and feed them if they’re in the mood.

Cat Cafés all-over has raised awareness for stray cats. Some also function as shelters, where the cats that come by are available for adoption. And this is one of my dreams. Given the chance, I will rescue cats this way.

For now, we visit and help the cats in cat cafés by buying food from their “houses” and souvenir items that are all catlover’s collectibles. Here are some of the cat cafés in Europe we’ve visited so far.

They are all well-behaved, I must say. Mačkafé has a big list of food they serve, aside from hot drinks, they offer cocktails too. The café can be found near the Hrad castle.

Updated March 2025 – This post gets updated whenever we visit the Louvre.

Marie, reminiscing:

(2011) Some years ago we visited the Louvre (2007 to be exact) — and I still remember the feeling like it was yesterday. I was absolutely delighted, maybe even a little overwhelmed. For someone who had always nurtured a quiet dream of becoming a painter, it truly felt like a dream come true. As a child, I would spend hours flipping through encyclopedias and art books, completely fascinated by the works of great masters like Monet and Van Gogh. Their colors, their brushstrokes, even their tragic stories, they all left a mark on me, even if I could only admire them on printed pages back then.

Louvre 2007

Later on, my tastes grew broader. I found myself drawn to the sharp edges and bold experiments of Picasso, the intricate precision of Dürer, the lightness of Monet, and the golden, almost otherworldly beauty of Klimt. So when I finally found myself face to face with some of famous painters’ actual works, not reproductions or photographs but the real thing…it was surreal. To stand so close that you could see the texture of the paint, the cracks of time, the human touch behind each piece, there’s something deeply humbling about that.

And yet, even with everything we saw, it felt like just the tip of an iceberg. The Louvre is vast, a maze of stories and centuries, and I know I’ve only scratched the surface. There’s still so much more to explore, and that excites me.

I’ve often written about my love for the arts on my other blogs, especially in the earlier days, when I used to interview artists and try to interpret their work, often comparing their explanations with my own impressions. That dialogue, that exchange of perspectives, is something I truly miss. It’s been a long time since I’ve done that, and of course, visiting the Louvre, as beautiful as it was, didn’t offer that opportunity. But in a way, it gave me something else: silence, stillness, and the colors of centuries speaking without words. (I’ve compiled my art thoughts here.)

For those few hours, we let ourselves be immersed in that world, wandering slowly, taking it all in. It was peaceful, inspiring, and deeply nourishing to the soul. I’d go back in a heartbeat.

The Louvre Revisited – 2016

Harold, revisited:

(Fast forward to 2016) — nearly a decade after Marie and I first set foot in the Louvre together — I found myself there once more, though this time under different circumstances. Not with her, but with a visiting friend. It was a bit of a strange feeling, walking those familiar halls again, but in a different chapter of life, without – the wife.

The Louvre Revisited 2016

The place hadn’t changed much — still grand, still awe-inspiring, still filled with quiet corners and stunning masterpieces that seemed to speak through time. But for me, the experience carried a new kind of weight. There was nostalgia, yes, but also a sense of distance. I remembered how Marie had lit up the first time we came — how she lingered a little longer in front of the Impressionists, how she tried to sketch a few quick lines in her notebook when she thought no one was looking.

This visit was more about looking at each display again, trying to see it all through fresh eyes. And yet, every so often, I’d pause in front of a familiar piece — a Dürer portrait, a Picasso sketch — and feel like I was briefly transported back to that first time. The past has a funny way of sneaking up on you in places like the Louvre, where centuries blur together and time bends around art.

It wasn’t quite the same, but it was meaningful in its own quiet way. A reminder, maybe, that while the people beside us may change, and the moments may never repeat exactly, the beauty of art — and the memories it holds — is always waiting for us to return.

Coming Back Together

Marie : October 2024 brought with it something we never quite anticipated — a rather big and beautiful surprise. Harold’s artwork was selected to be displayed at the Carrousel du Louvre, as part of the Salon International d’Art Contemporain. Yes, that Louvre. It still feels a little unreal to say it out loud.

The past years, we had visited the museum as admirers, eyes wide with awe and reverence for the greats, and now here we were again, but this time not just as spectators, but participants. Harold’s work, hanging in a gallery space just beneath the Louvre’s grand halls, became a part of a wider conversation in contemporary art. It was an incredible honor, and truly, a full-circle moment.

We spent several days in Paris, soaking in the experience, letting it settle in. There was a quiet joy in walking past the glass pyramid once more, this time with a different kind of purpose. We watched as visitors from all over the world passed by Harold’s piece pausing, leaning in, reading, thinking. It was humbling and exhilarating all at once.

There was no red carpet, no grand speeches but there was delight. We stood together in that space, taking it all in: the lights, the buzz, the language of art flowing from wall to wall. And deep down, I think we both felt that unspoken recognition that after years of loving, studying, and living alongside art, we had somehow found our way into its living, breathing world.

It’s a memory we’ll always carry, those days at the Louvre, not just as dreamers, but as part of the dream.

The Louvre Revisited 2024, Carrousel du Louvre exhibit

Returning to Paris and a Special Photo

February 2025 brought us back to Paris once again, and with it, another milestone in our creative journey, Harold’s participation in Art Capital at the Grand Palais. Just being part of that historic exhibition, where generations of artists have showcased their work, felt like standing in the stream of something much larger than ourselves. But what made this trip even more meaningful was that this time… we were three.

Our daughter went with us.

There was something incredibly special about sharing this city with her, a place so deeply woven into our memories, a place that had watched parts of our story unfold, quietly, beautifully, over the years. And now, to return not just as a couple, but with our eldest,it added an entirely new layer of depth to the experience.

Of course, we made time to visit the Louvre again. We walked through the familiar spaces, tracing old steps, pointing out paintings, sharing stories, watching her eyes light up the way ours once did. She looked up at the same masterpieces we once stood in awe of and suddenly, everything felt new again, seen through her gaze.

Then came the photo.

The Louvre Revisited 2007 (and 2025)

There’s this one spot, unremarkable to most but to us, it holds so much. It’s where I took a photo of Harold and our two older kids, during our earliest visits. Back then, we were full of wide-eyed wonder, still just dreamers peering in from the outside. We found the same spot. A photo decades in the making. A quiet, powerful symbol of time passing, dreams evolving, and life unfolding in ways we never could’ve planned. (In an ideal world, there would have been three—if not four—of them in the second photo. But life plays the unfair card sometimes, and it hurts knowing it may take a little longer before I can capture them all together again. Still, I’ll wait.)

To see her there…to be there…was a moment we’ll never forget.

This return to Paris wasn’t just about the art we brought or the exhibit we joined. It was about legacy, about connection, about witnessing the passing of inspiration from one generation to the next. The Louvre welcomed us back, and in a way, so did the dreams we once left there. But now we weren’t just revisiting them — we were living them, together.

Walking around Copenhagen’s pristine streets is like entering a meticulously crafted urban oasis. As one strolls through the Danish capital, the first thing that strikes is the immaculate cleanliness that permeates every corner. From the historic squares to the modern thoroughfares, Copenhagen’s commitment to cleanliness is evident at every turn.

The streets are lined with neatly arranged rows of buildings, their facades boasting a blend of contemporary design and centuries-old architecture. Yet, despite the age of some of these structures, they appear as if they were built yesterday, meticulously maintained and cared for by their inhabitants.

Parks and green spaces punctuate the urban landscape, offering serene spots for relaxation amidst the hustle and bustle of city life. The lush foliage and well-manicured lawns provide a refreshing contrast to the surrounding concrete jungle, inviting locals and visitors alike to unwind and enjoy nature’s beauty.

But perhaps the most remarkable aspect of Copenhagen’s clean streets is the absence of litter. It’s a testament to the city’s strong environmental ethos and the collective effort of its residents to keep their surroundings pristine. Waste bins are strategically placed at regular intervals, encouraging people to dispose of their trash responsibly.
Copenhagen

Copenhagen is renowned as one of the world’s premier biking cities, and for good reason. With its flat terrain, extensive network of bike lanes, and a culture that prioritizes cycling, it’s no surprise that biking is a preferred mode of transportation for many of its citizens.

One of the most remarkable aspects of biking in Copenhagen is the infrastructure dedicated to cyclists. The city boasts over 400 kilometers (250 miles) of bike lanes, many of which are physically separated from vehicular traffic, providing a safe and efficient way for cyclists to navigate the city. These lanes crisscross Copenhagen, connecting residential neighborhoods with commercial districts, parks, and other points of interest.

In addition to dedicated bike lanes, Copenhagen features numerous bike bridges and underpasses, allowing cyclists to traverse the city easily and without having to contend with traffic congestion. These infrastructure investments make biking a convenient and practical choice for commuting, running errands, or simply exploring the city.

Copenhagen is continuously working to enhance its biking infrastructure and prioritize the needs of cyclists in urban planning and development projects. This commitment to creating a bike-friendly environment has earned Copenhagen recognition as a model for sustainable transportation and urban design, inspiring other cities around the world to follow suit.

Unlike many other cities in Spain, Seville or Barcelona for example, Madrid is not as bike-friendly. It doesn’t have a lot of cycle paths and cars abound – but there are still some bike lanes you can take to enjoy its beauty. The city has been slowly increased its network of bicycle paths in the last years. As of 2018, there are over 200km of bike lanes and Madrid plans to add 400km more by 2024. The paths are classified into bike lanes, bike sidewalk-path, shared-use paths, car-shared lanes, and greenways.

Madrid is not flat, and this adds to it being categorized as not a bike-friendly city. But if you like a little challenge, there are many rentals for you to borrow a bike from around the city. This means you can easily get around without worrying about traffic or sharing the road with cars.

Rome

Biking in Rome offers a unique and rewarding way to explore the city’s rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture. While not as well-known for its biking infrastructure as some other European cities, Rome has been making efforts to become more bike-friendly in recent years.

Rome’s biking infrastructure is gradually improving, but it is not as extensive as in some other cities. The city has dedicated cycling lanes, bike paths, and shared roads with vehicles. However, it’s important to note that the biking infrastructure might not be as consistent or well-maintained as in other cities, and you may encounter some areas with challenging road conditions or limited cycling facilities.

Biking in Rome can be challenging due to the city’s narrow, winding streets, heavy traffic, and sometimes uneven road surfaces. Cyclists should be prepared to navigate through busy areas and share the road with motor vehicles. Some drivers might not be accustomed to sharing the road with cyclists, so it’s essential to be cautious and assertive while biking.

Despite the challenges, biking in Rome offers a unique cultural experience. You can ride through charming neighborhoods, discover hidden squares, and enjoy the local ambiance. Biking allows you to immerse yourself in the daily life of the city and access areas that might be less accessible by other means of transportation. Bike rental shops and guided biking tours are available throughout Rome, catering to both tourists and locals.

Here are some tips to help you save up effectively:

Set a Clear Goal: Determine how much money you’ll need for your trip. Consider all expenses, including flights, accommodation, food, activities, and a buffer for unexpected costs. Having a specific savings goal will help you stay motivated.

Create a Travel Fund: Open a separate bank account or set up a dedicated savings account for your trip. This will help you keep track of your progress and prevent you from spending the money you’ve saved.

Make a Budget: Review your monthly expenses and create a budget that allows you to allocate a portion of your income toward your travel fund. Cut unnecessary expenses and redirect that money into your savings.

Automate Savings: Set up automatic transfers from your main account to your travel fund. This way, you won’t be tempted to spend the money before saving it. You can even see how much you would have saved up by using a free savings calculator. This will motivate you to achieve your goal.

Reduce Debt: If you have high-interest debts, consider paying them down as quickly as possible. Reducing interest payments will free up more money for your travel fund.

Side Hustles: Look for opportunities to earn extra income through part-time jobs, freelancing, or selling items you no longer need. This extra money can be directed into your travel fund.

Sell Unneeded Items: Declutter your home and sell items you no longer use like smaller dresses, unused denim jacket, unworn shoes on platforms like eBay, Craigslist, or at a garage sale. The proceeds can go directly into your travel savings.

Cut Non-Essential Expenses: Evaluate your spending habits and cut back on non-essential expenses like dining out, subscription services, and impulse purchases.

Monitor Your Progress: Regularly review your travel fund’s progress and adjust your budget or savings plan as needed. Celebrate milestones along the way to stay motivated.

Plan and Book in Advance: Once you’ve saved enough for your trip, plan and book your travel well in advance. This can often result in cost savings compared to last-minute bookings.

Emergency Fund: Before you travel, make sure you have an emergency fund in place to cover unexpected expenses or emergencies while you’re away. This will help you relax knowing you’re financially prepared.

Saving for a trip takes time and discipline, but the anticipation and satisfaction of being able to truly relax and enjoy your vacation will make it all worthwhile.

Now that you’ve saved up, here are some of the things you can do to plan a stress-free vacation that can be enjoyed to the fullest.

How to Actually Relax While on Vacation : autumn walk

Choose Your Season Well

It is important for people to check weather conditions in their travel destinations before sailing off or flying out. This way they can anticipate the type of clothes or protection that they need to bring for their vacation. Equally important is to know the season that is best for scheduling a trip.

Those who love the beach can book their vacation during the summer season where they can take advantage of the warm and sunny weather, while people who love chilly weathers, hot chocolates, and the feel of powdery-white snow are better off with a winter season vacation.

Get Pointers from Reliable Sources

It can be difficult to plan accommodations, meals, and itineraries when one is unfamiliar with the vacation spot. Reading travel reviews and recommendations can give you an idea on the best places to stay-in, eat, and explore, including information on what to expect from the locals. Nowadays, one can find several travel review sites on the internet. You can check out the reviews in varied sites to get a more accurate gauge on the ratings.

Learn About Money Matters

Check airport and international regulations on currencies being brought during travel. Bringing in a large volume of cash can get you in trouble with airport and immigration authorities. If you intend to shop or spend a lot, then an ATM card or credit card will be a good alternative to having loads of cash in your possession. Here’s some tips on how to go about spending and using ATM cards.

Sign up with Wise to get your debit card with no foreign transaction fees and use your ATM abroad for the lowest fees. Click here.

Travel Discounts and Rewards

Consider using travel rewards credit cards or loyalty programs that can help you save on flights, accommodations, and other travel expenses.

Search for the Best Travel Deals

Those who would like to make the most out of their vacation funds can benefit from a little fare comparison. One can save on airline ticket prices or vacation package deals by comparing prices from different service providers. However, one shouldn’t always go for the cheaper option all the time. One should also check for package inclusions and service reputation of the establishments and compare it against similar offers to be sure that they are getting the best deal around.

Bring only what you need

Don’t bring the whole closet to your vacation, plan your wardrobe for the trip and pack as light as you can. You wouldn’t want to spend your energy lugging around a suit case full of stuff that you don’t really need. Don’t forget to bring medicines including emergency ones to make sure that your health doesn’t suffer during the trip.

How to Actually Relax While on Vacation – Ghent

Protect Yourself Through Insurance

Buying insurance can be perceived as an extra and unnecessary cost, but it does have some security benefit that travelling people need. One can never predict what will happen during the trip, and being safe is always better than being sorry.

Photo memories

Try to capture every vacation moment with photos so you can always go back to them even if you’re old and grey. Take pictures of people, local scenery, unique features, and anything that catches your fancy during the trip. If you are up to it, you can create a theme for the photos and make a photo story out of them.

Shop for souvenirs smartly

Purchasing souvenirs for yourself or for your friends at home doesn’t mean whimsically picking out things on a souvenir shop. Try to go for things that have practical and long term use like shirts or caps, and try to avoid pens or trinkets.

Happy travels!

While travelling is not as restricted as it did during the first lockdowns, we haven’t been out of the country since March of 2020. The farthest we’ve been is to a small town 20+ km away, called Laxenburg. We also took time to explore our home city, Vienna, on days that we were not on lockdowns (very carefully too).

By this year, we were able to go on a day-cruise, some days at lower Austria, and Bratislava on short trips. And while I miss longer travel time and farther cities, I will have to settle for anywhere near.

I’ve had this article on drafts since last year’s autumn, having participated in a tag from friends showing cities we love (or travelled to). This is a compilation of the cities I chose (not in order of preference though).

1. Munich

Awesome City Breaks In Europe For 2022 : Munich

Laid back and friendly are the two words that I would use to best describe Munich. It’s a city alright, but it’s not buzzing with busyness, you can go slow to the famous spots, even to the city center.

Munich is a fantastic choice for autumn travel. The city is known for its beautiful parks, such as the English Garden and Nymphenburg Palace Park, which are stunning when the leaves change color in the fall. Additionally, you can experience Oktoberfest in September and early October, which is one of the world’s largest beer festivals. Munich is also a gateway to the Bavarian Alps, offering opportunities for hiking and enjoying the crisp autumn air.

2. Frankfurt

City Breaks In Europe For 2022 : Frankfurt View

Germany’s financial hub, Frankfurt is not only big from when the moment you step foot on its airport. It feels intimidating but it’s actually a joy to walk around.

Frankfurt is a modern and cosmopolitan city with a mix of historic and contemporary attractions. In the autumn, you can explore the city’s museums, such as the Städel Museum and the Senckenberg Natural History Museum, which are great indoor activities when the weather gets cooler. The surrounding countryside in Hesse also offers beautiful landscapes for hiking and enjoying autumn foliage.

City Breaks In Europe For 2022 : Frankfurt cobblestones

3. Florence

Awesome City Breaks In Europe For 2023’s Autumn : Florence

Florence is a cultural gem and an excellent destination for art and history lovers. In autumn, you can explore the city’s iconic landmarks, including the Uffizi Gallery, Florence Cathedral (Duomo), and the beautiful Boboli Gardens. The weather in Florence during autumn is typically mild, making it a pleasant time to stroll through the city’s charming streets and enjoy Italian cuisine in outdoor cafes.

4. Rome

Awesome City Breaks In Europe For 2023’s Autumn: Rome

Rome is a beautiful destination in the autumn months. The weather is generally mild, making it pleasant for exploring the city’s historic sites, such as the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and the Vatican. The fall foliage in Rome’s parks, such as Villa Borghese, adds to the city’s charm. You can also savor delicious Italian cuisine in cozy trattorias, and it’s a great time to enjoy the local wine.

5. Venice

Awesome City Breaks In Europe For 2023’s Autumn : Venice

Venice in autumn offers a more relaxed and authentic experience compared to the summer crowds. The canals and historic buildings of Venice take on a special beauty in the autumn light. You can explore the winding streets, visit museums like the Doge’s Palace, and take a gondola ride with fewer tourists around. However, be prepared for some occasional acqua alta (high water) in Venice during this season.

6. Budapest

You can soak in the thermal baths like Széchenyi or Gellért to stay warm and relaxed in the cooler weather. The city’s fall foliage in places like Margaret Island and the Buda Hills is a treat for nature lovers. Budapest also has a vibrant café culture, perfect for enjoying coffee and pastries as the weather cools down.

Amsterdam is a picturesque city with its iconic canals, historic architecture, and rich cultural heritage. Autumn is a lovely time to visit as the city’s tree-lined streets and canalside pathways are adorned with golden and red leaves. You can explore world-class museums like the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, take leisurely boat rides along the canals, and enjoy seasonal Dutch treats like poffertjes (mini pancakes) and stroopwafels.

Each of these cities has its own unique character and attractions. Ultimately, your choice among these cities may depend on your interests.
