In dedicating September 2009 as "Wilderness Month", President Obama recognizes that "American wilderness has inspired wonder and imagination for centuries and is an irreplaceable part of our Nation's heritage."

It is in this spirit of celebration that Colorado Environmental Coalition enthusiastically announces the Northern Dolores "NoDo" River Basin Campaign.

Whether or not you have explored this rural canyon country on your own or perhaps joined us for our recent Juanita Arch Exploration, ‘NoDo’ Night Out, or Conception Rock Hike, there are countless opportunities for recreation and exploration in the future.

DOI to investigate Bush Administration's oil shale policies

Citizens from western states, including sportsmen groups and conservationists, applaud today's announcement by Department of Interior (DOI) Secretary Ken Salazar that the agency will investigate Bush Administration policies fast-tracking oil shale development. New policies give priority to applications that actually consider water and energy needs and impacts on the environment and local economies -- these considerations were not contemplated in Bush Administration policies.

Secretary Salazar's announcement makes it clear that DOI will assess the significantimpacts associated with oil shale development more prudently under his watch than they did during the last administration. This announcement represents a significant slowdown from the reckless rush toward development of the past.

Wilderness advocates gathered along the Platte River in Denver on Tuesday and called on Colorado's congressional delegation to support new wilderness protections.

From rugged snow-capped peaks to winding river canyons, Colorado is blessed with a wealth of spectacular public lands that make our state such a great place to live and visit. These treasured lands and sparkling rivers are where we hike and hunt and fish, where wildlife finds refuge, the source of our pure drinking water, and the backbone of our economy.
