JENA, Louisiana (CNN) -- A judge could order as early as Friday that the sole defendant who remains behind bars from the group of teens known as the "Jena 6" must be released.

Mychal Bell, 17, is accused with five others of beating Justin Barker in a school fight.

1 of 3 more photos » Mychal Bell, 17, has been in jail since his arrest more than nine months ago.

His attorneys had hoped to get the judge, J. P. Mauffray, removed from the case on Friday.

But a judge from a neighboring parish ruled after hearing arguments that Mauffray would stay on the case.

Bell's attorneys said they were still hoping to get their client out on bond Friday.

"We'll see what happens," the teen's attorney, Bob Noel, said. "We don't like to speculate."

With thousands of demonstrators converging on the small town Thursday to decry what they call "unequal justice," the state's 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal ordered a bond hearing for Bell within 72 hours. It was set for Friday morning.

Among the calls at Thursday's dramatic protests -- which drew worldwide attention -- was "Free Mychal Bell." See highlights from the march »

Bell is the only one of the six African-American teenagers to stand trial so far. District Attorney Reed Walters tried him as an adult and won convictions on two charges.

Walters has said he believes Bell was the instigator of the alleged beating of classmate Justin Barker.

Last week, the appellate court vacated Bell's battery conviction, saying he should never have been tried as an adult. He was 16 at the time; 17 is the legal adult age in Louisiana. A district judge earlier this month tossed out Bell's conviction for conspiracy to commit second-degree battery.

U.S. attorney: Nooses, beating at Jena High not related
On Tuesday, a three-judge panel said it was "premature" to consider releasing Bell. The district attorney will determine whether to refile the charges in juvenile court, a defense attorney said.

Bails for the Jena 6 had been set at between $70,000 and $138,000, and all but Bell posted bond. He has been in prison since his arrest. The judge has refused to lower his $90,000 bail, citing the teen's record, which includes four juvenile offenses -- two simple battery charges among them.

Bell and five other defendants were arrested in the alleged beating of Barker, who is white, at their high school on December 4. The incident followed months of racial tension, sparked originally when three white teens hung nooses from an oak tree the day after a group of black students violated an unofficial rule among students that only whites sit in that area. See timeline of how events unfolded »

Prosecutors originally charged all six black students with second-degree attempted murder and conspiracy.

Walters reduced charges against at least four of them -- Bell, Robert Bailey Jr., Carwin Jones and Theo Shaw -- to battery and conspiracy. Bryant Purvis awaits arraignment. Charges against Jesse Ray Beard, 14 at the time of the alleged crime, are unavailable because he's a juvenile.

Civil rights leaders and other demonstrators call events in Jena a sign of unequal justice in the 21st century. The white kids who hung the nooses were briefly suspended from classes but faced no punishments from the legal system.

Donald Washington, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Louisiana, told CNN the FBI and other investigators thought the noose incident bore the markings of a hate crime, but a decision was made not to press charges because the case didn't meet federal criteria. The students were under 18 and had no prior records, and no group such as the Ku Klux Klan was found to be behind their actions.

But that wasn't the only significant event leading up to the alleged beating.

Days before then, a fight broke out at a private party in Jena. A 22-year-old white man, Justin Sloan, attacked a black high school student with a bottle. Sloan was charged with simple battery. His subsequent punishment was probation.

There also was a fight at a convenience store in a predominantly black part of Jena. In the parking lot, a white high school student who spotted young black students went and got a shotgun out of his car. Three black students wrestled it away from him.

The white student later told police he felt threatened by the black students.

No charges were brought against the student with the gun. But the three black students were charged with aggravated second-degree battery, assault, disturbing the peace and theft of the weapon. Those cases have yet to go to trial.

As authorities investigated what led to the incident involving Barker, most of the witness statements police collected agreed that black students had warned him against making certain remarks -- but what he said remains unclear.

Authorities estimated about 15,000 to 20,000 protesters came out Thursday to Jena -- a town of about 3,000, according to the 2000 census<div class="blogger-post-footer">http://feeds.comcast.rhapsody.com/calicasino/discography.rss</div>

NEW ARTIST ZOINK

Check this out I need your votes on this you can simply give a thumbs up or a thumps down just leave your coments about this song the artist is Zoink one of are New Artist on Barberqrecords.com

Today June 16th, hip hop icon Tupac Shakur (2Pac) would have been 36 years old. The legacy of this hip hop icon grows every year with the understanding that he was more than just a rap musician or a hip hop performer.

As ‘deep’ and as real as Tupac was is now being realized by many far beyond the reach of the hip hop community.

As the hip hop community remembers Tupac Amaru Shakur (2Pac) on his birthday we ask that everyone recognize that Tupac was more than hip hop, more than rap music. He was so much more to so many people.

A poet, activist, teacher, actor, rapper, hip hop icon and a real person with real experiences and the intellect to communicate his feelings to the masses.

Below is a bio of Tupac that was written by site staff member John McDonald. Take a minute to read it and remember Tupac Shakur on his birthday – gone but far from forgotten.

“A moment of silence, and then it was on!” – 2Pac (Resurrection DVD)

An embryo in Prison. Cultivated behind bars. Then on the 16th June 1971, ‘Lesane Parish Crooks’ was entered into this world. The world will later know this man as ‘Tupac Amaru Shakur’; but little did they know the impact that this man would have on this world.

Tupac was the son of one of the famous ‘Black Panther’ members, Afeni Shakur. This was a movement fighting for the prejudice against African Americans. He was from a single parent family as many at the time were and he would from a very early age ask about his father but the reply from Afeni was vague, "She just told me, 'I don't know who your daddy is.' It wasn't like she was a slut or nothin'. It was just some rough times.”

His step father, Mutulu Shakur was sentenced to sixty years for a fatal armored car robbery. This had a big impact on Tupac’s life, he had no father figure that he could look up to; “How can I be a man if there's no role model? Strivin to save my soul I stay cold drinkin a forty bottle”, the only role models that he had were pimps and hustlers, and this is where he adopted the thug image.

Tupac moved to Baltimore at an early age. He describes these “as the best days of my life”. He was truly in to the arts, whether it was music, film or poetry. He enrolled in the Baltimore school for the arts. Even at a young age, Tupac was outspoken on the subject of racial equality. His teachers remembered him as being a very gifted student. He was an avid reader, delving into books on eastern religions, and even entire encyclopedia sets. Hiding his love of literature from his peers, he gained the respect of his peers by acting like a tough guy. Tupac composed his first rap in Baltimore under the name "MC New York". The song was about gun control and was inspired by the fatal shooting of one of his close friends.

From Baltimore, drug-addicted Afeni moved the whole family to Marin City, California; the WESTside. Tupac quickly moved from the family home and moved in with a friend and began hustling drugs. This didn’t go to plan by the end of the week Tupac had nearly the same amount of when he started; the pimps and dealers took the drugs back and told Tupac that this wasn’t the game for him and he should pursue his music interests and that if he needed any money they would supply it; “they were like my sponsors”. He quickly gained interest from the ears on the streets, one of these was Ray Luv, and with a mutual friend named DJ Dize (Dizz-ee), they started a rap group called Strictly Dope. Their recordings were later released in 2001 under the name “Tupac Shakur: The Lost Tapes”. Their neighborhood performances brought Tupac enough acclaim to land an audition with Shock G of Digital Underground.

In 1990, Shakur joined as a roadie and dancer for Digital Underground. His early lyrics were remarkable, and he was viewed ambivalently for his tendency to act like a diva and for his occasionally violent personality. On a song for the “Nothing But Trouble” movie soundtrack, “Same Song”, Tupac was given his first opportunity to rap on a big-time record. “Get some fame, people change, wanna live they life high same song, can't go wrong, if I play the nice guy”.

In 1991, Tupac had trouble shopping his solo-debut, “2Pacalypse Now”. Eventually, Interscope records agreed to distribute the record; one can credit executives Ted Field and Tom Whalley for giving Tupac the chance. Although produced with the help of his Digital Underground crew, the intent of the album was to showcase his individual talent. While Tupac claimed his album was aimed at the problems facing young black males, it was also filled with images of violence by and against police. 2Pacalypse Now quickly attracted public criticism, especially after a young man who killed a Texas Trooper claimed he was inspired by the album, the case against Tupac was later thrown out of court for Tupac’s right of freedom of expression; unfortunately he had passed before the decision had been made.

Former Vice President Dan Quayle publicly denounced the album as having "no place in our society". The album did not do as well as Tupac had hoped on the charts, sparking no number one hits.

His second album, “Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z.”, was heavily produced by Stretch and the Live Squad, and spurred two number one hits: the emotional Keep Ya Head Up and the playful I Get Around.

Along with Tupac’s rise to fame came a series of altercations with the law that further complicated his public image. Before he started his recording career, Tupac had no criminal record. “I had to make a record to get a police record”. In Oakland in October of 1991, Tupac was stopped by two officers for allegedly jaywalking. When he asked the police why he was being pulled up on such a petty crime, he was choked, beaten, and had his head smashed on the pavement. He subsequently raised a ten million dollar lawsuit against the Oakland police department, which was eventually settled for $42,000. He commented “I could have got more but I was tired of going to court, and thought any money from the police department was good, I got $42,000 for jaywalking!”

In late 1993, he formed the group “Thug Life” with a few of his friends, including Big Syke, Macadoshis, his step-brother Mopreme, and Rated R. The group released their first album “Thug Life: Volume 1” on Interscope in 1994 which, despite its hardcore content, still managed to go Gold. The group subsequently disbanded after Tupac’s release from prison.

In December 1993, Tupac was charged with sexually abusing a woman in his hotel room. According to his account, he met a female fan at a club, Nell's, who was described to him as wanting to "more than meet [him]". She allegedly gave him oral sex on the dance floor before Tupac took her back to his hotel room. The next night, she visited him before he was set to do a show and was giving him a massage in a hotel room. Some people who were hanging with him interrupted the couple, wanting to enjoy the woman's attentions themselves.

On February 7, 1995, Tupac was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for sexual assault, though he vehemently denied any wrongdoing. When asked what he would have done differently that night he said, “I would have never closed my eyes until the girl had left the room”.

Shortly before his verdict was announced, Tupac was shot five times in an apparent robbery attempt outside the New York Quad music studio. Tupac recalled the circumstances shortly afterwards in an interview with Vibe magazine. He was with his close friend, manager, and another friend on the night of November 30, 1994. (You can read the info in the 94 shooting section)

Tupac began serving his prison sentence at Clinton Correctional Facility later that February. Soon after, his multi-platinum album, “Me Against the World”, was released. Tupac has the distinction of being the only artist with an album at number one on the charts while serving a prison sentence. “For me that will always be my favourite album” Tupac commented in an interview.

The guards would taunt Tupac and say that your not the big man anymore, Tupac just laughed, “actually my album is no 1 in the whole country and has just beat Bruce Springsteen to the top of the the buildboard!” From jail, he married his long-time girlfriend, Keisha Morris. This marriage was later annulled.

In September, after almost eleven months in prison, Tupac was released on parole largely due to the help of Suge Knight, the head of “Death Row Records”. Suge posted a $1.4 million bail for Tupac, and in exchange Tupac was obliged to release three albums under Death Row.

Upon his release from prison, Tupac began work on his next album. In February 1996, he released his fourth solo album, “All Eyez on Me”. It subsequently went on to sell more than nine million copies and is considered by many to be among the best albums in the genre.

As his career arc began a steep rise toward fame and fortune, Tupac was shot and killed after watching a Mike Tyson fight with Suge. Though his death was a jolt to his fans and the music community, Tupac himself said that, “I know what it’s going to be like when I die, there will not be any noise or bright lights, I’m just going to fade away”. The case remains unsolved to this day.

Following his passing, Death Row released, “The Don Killuminati”, under the pseudonym "Makaveli". The cover depicted Shakur nailed to a cross under a crown of thorns, with a map of the country's major gang areas superimposed on it. In January of 1997, Gramercy pictures released “Gridlock'd”, a film in which Tupac played the role of a drug addict to mostly good reviews. His final film, “Gang Related”, was released in 1997.

At the time that Tupac died, there were hundreds of unreleased Death-Row Era tracks. Most of these have been released on posthumous albums such as “Better Dayz” and “Until the End of Time”, and the newly realeased “Loyal to the game”, produced by Eminem.

A rapper. An actor. A revolutionary. A martyr. A son. A brother. A friend. But most of all this man was a legacy, “so keep you head up, do what you gotta do, and through you I will be reborn”.

“To Date Tupac is the biggest selling rapper of all time.”

50 Cent Defends Hip-Hop's Use Of Expletives
50 Cent is refusing to give in to critics calling for rappers to clean up their lyrics, insisting expletives used in the music are simply reflective of the "harsh realities" of life.

Hip-hop stars have come under attack for their regular use of words like 'n**ger', 'ho' and 'bitch', particularly after the Don Imus controversy last month, where the American DJ referred to a female basketball team as "nappy headed hoes."

But 50 - real name Curtis Jackson - has vowed never to bow to the pressure of critics, because they can't relate to the hardship most rappers have had to deal with in their youths.

He says, "Music is a mirror, and hip-hop is a reflection of the environment that we grew up in. It's the harsh realities that end up in the music. If I ask you to paint a picture of the American flag and not use the color red, you're gonna have a difficult time.

"To capture what we try to capture in the art form, I'm sure some conservative Americans can't (identify) with it because of their lifestyle and the way they've actually been brought up, and they haven't been exposed to those realities."

And the hitmaker took the opportunity to poke fun at Master P, who has chosen to stop using racist and sexist language in his music. He adds, "Well Master P doesn't sell CDs anymore. You can tell him I said it."<div class="blogger-post-footer">http://feeds.comcast.rhapsody.com/calicasino/discography.rss</div>

Devin The Dude Exhales

<br>

Devin The Dude has been a fixture in hip-hop for over a decade. His imprint on the sound of Rap-a-lot records has proven he is indeed a bricklayer for the movement going on in Houston, Texas. Countless features would lead many to believe he would have more than four albums under his belt, but when you manage your career the way Devin The Dude has, choosing not to over saturate the market has established his career and kept his voice a float.

Long before rappers harmonizing or better yet singing their sixteens was common place, Devin The Dude stood out amongst his peers. Establishing a style all his own was not hard for this emcee who intertwines sexual escapades that are downright raunchy to lovemaking at its finest with lyricism and comedy. This signature styling made him the perfect feature on such classics like Dr. Dre's "F--- You" from The Chronic 2001 and Scarface's timeless track "F--- Faces." As sexually overt lyrics became a growing trend, Devin The Dude managed to clearly separate himself from other sexually explicit rappers like Too Short.

Having touched the mainstream through other artists' albums, Devin The Dude is set and ready to take his underground legend status to levels his fans know he deserves. With his fourth release, properly titled Waitin' To Inhale, The Dude has not lost "it" at all -- in many ways he flows like an emcee with a mission. And while on this mission, he displays a clear understanding of the price of fame. Conveying his understanding of fame while enjoying the lifestyle on tracks like "What A Job" and "Somebody Else's Wife" are done with maturity and excellence.

While keeping busy promoting Waitin' To Inhale, touring and introducing his new group the Coughee Brothaz, Devin The Dude took time to chat it up with Ballerstatus.com about his new album and how he stays afloat.

Ballerstatus.com: I'm speaking to Devin The Dude, wow... how are you doing?

Devin The Dude: I'm doing good, just grinding it out, getting over the humps and bumps. I'm Smoothing it out, it's a beautiful day today.

Ballerstatus.com: You have this new album out and just to let you know my whole city (Seattle) is buzzing about it, would you say this is your best work to date?

Devin The Dude: Yes most definitely. The energy and feedback I'm getting is so strong. I sure do appreciate it.

Ballerstatus.com: On this album you hear the maturity and the growth. This Devin is a little reserved, but you are still doing your signature style. How were you able to couple the two?

Devin The Dude: Well, I guess chilling with my homeboys, my co-workers like the Odd Squad, my people that have been around since the beginning, so the music and the content is still the same. But I am getting older, I have more responsibility and that tends to alter the music just a little bit. That way things aren't too raw and it's good that I have my family members around me who won't let me stray too far away from what we usually do, but reminding me to chill out a little bit on some of the lyrics.

Ballerstatus.com: You have done so much in your career. How many years have you been around?

Devin The Dude: Since about '92 or '93. The Odd Squad came out with an album in 1994 titled Fadnuf Fa Erybody. Back in '89/'90, I was freestyling and working with rap, you know trying to get my foot in the door. Yea I'm pretty old school.

Ballerstatus.com: You are pretty old school if you think about it, but you are just as relevant now. What do you attribute that to?

Devin The Dude: Consistency and versatility.

Ballerstatus.com: People like you, Yukmouth and host of others have been able to maintain quite nicely with touring and albums that never brought about mainstream attention, while fads in hip-hop and other artists come and go. What are you doing differently?

Devin The Dude: It feels real good, you know? Now of course it feels good when you can go out with a host of others and do those big arenas, but when you can hold it down yourself in those smaller venues and the people come out to support in a big way, it lets you get close to the fans that are there for you and really support you. With those smaller venues, there's a lot of energy and you move the crowd with that because that's the real energy right there.

The dream of doing something like the Reliant Stadium when you first come out means you've got some really good luck or you've done a lot of praying. With that though, you really don't have room for improvement once you go big like that. When things happen for you fast like that, you have people around you, you don't know or know if you can trust them. You don't really know the game that much. Getting out and grinding and starting out with those little venues and clubs helps you grow and learn a lot throughout your journey.

Ballerstatus.com: People who buy your albums are really your fans and in most cases have been down with you from the start. You don't have to deal with the fickle fan and trends, do you feel like you are at an advantage because of your longevity?

Devin The Dude: Of course, that's your main focus right there -- the roots. The people who support you, people who gave you good advice and gave you a push every now and then when you just wanted to chill out. That's has played a huge part in whatever I do.

Ballerstatus.com: You have created your own lane, no one can rap so eloquently, in a laid back fashion with a comedic twist about getting a woman out her clothes the way you do. Who is this guy Devin the Dude?

Devin The Dude: That person you just described, that's "The Dude" right there and Devin is kinda shy or better yet, a little more reserved. When you get in that essence and when I'm coming across with the music, that is "The Dude" (laughing) and it depends on how much I drink. I can come a little more direct and add some humor to it, so no one really gets offended that much.

Ballerstatus.com: I read somewhere that you are a huge fan of Richard Pryor. How do you add that comedic twist to the music?

Devin The Dude: Aw man, you know Richard Pryor was like an uncle to me. An uncle I never met. Growing up, I would always sneak and listen to him, like when I was in the third grade. Like him, I am not always funny. I can be serious at the same time. He was able to tell you his problems in a humorous way, so you didn't really have to go through it. When I got the chance to be old enough to be in the environments he was talking about, I was able to reflect back on his records or watch his videos and know not to do certain things. Like not doing certain drugs or how to handle/speak to your spouse/girlfriend, he really taught me a lot.

So when I started rapping, I always wanted to have distinctive type sound, an originality about myself with the humor added to it. When I wanted to laugh or have someone give me a chuckle or two, I was always able to look back to Richard Pryor for that as well as incorporate that in my songs. Like my song on this new album, "Broccoli & Cheese," I got that directly from Richard Pryor when he would use his Mud-Bone voice.

Ballerstatus.com: (Laughing) Other than me telling everyone to go out and get one of the hottest albums out right now, what are you doing to promote this album?

Devin The Dude: (Laughing) Thanks, I really appreciate that. We are doing a lot of spot dates, a lot of retail, radio and a lot of magazine interviews. I've been getting a great response from it. I'm feeling good and people like you are letting me know they like it. It gives me the jitters a little bit and anxiety, stuff like that. That word of mouth support is what keeps me going.

Ballerstatus.com: Have you shot a video for "What a Job?"

Devin The Dude: No, but we are working on some treatments and people are sending in some suggestions for that song. If me, Andre 3000 and Snoop could get together or we could shoot it separately (laughing), just to put it together would be great. I think it would be pretty cool.

Ballerstatus.com: You also have a song with Lil Wayne, titled "Lil Girl Gone," he's really making a name for himself these days, what was it like working with him?

Devin The Dude: Aw yeah, that's my little homeboy right there. He's really cool. We've been running into each other since back in the day, talking about working together. Fortunately, I had some songs that I had open spots for on the album. During the mixing and mastering of the album, my people were like, "It's time to start reaching out to some people" and he was one of the people who got on board with the project.

Ballerstatus.com: Did you get to work in the studio with Snoop and Andre 3000?

Devin The Dude: No, but it was still a blessing. We just shot the tracks over to them, that's how things are getting done these days and it cuts down on a lot of stuff.

Ballerstatus.com: Are you working the MySpace at all?

Devin The Dude: Myspace had been very significant effect. It's like, "Whoa, if you don't have one of those as apart of your marketing, that's crazy." It's like free promotion, all you have to do is tell someone slash such and such and the people got it. They can look you up and converse with you. It's free to the public and it's a good promotional tool to have.

Ballerstatus.com: What was it like putting this album together?

Devin The Dude: You know, it was kinda comforting. We had fun putting this album together. This time we were at a stable studio of our own -- me and the Coughee Brothaz. We were chillin' at the Coffee Pot, we were settled and got a chance to really sit back and listen to what we were doing. Coming back the next day to touch buttons and twist knobs really putting things together. I enjoyed it because we didn't have to move around a lot, which made it very comfortable.

Ballerstatus.com: What producers did you work with on this album?

Devin The Dude: DJ Domo, Rob Quest from the Odd Squad, I produced "Lil Girl Gone" ... Rich from Picnic in Dallas, Texas; my man Funky Fingers, he did some of the bass and guitar stuff on there; Chuck Heat from L.A., he produced "What A Job" and another track on there. We had a lot of fun. A lot of people came out and helped out to make this a pretty cool project.

Ballerstatus.com: What do you want to tell your fans?

Devin The Dude: I love and appreciate them, honestly. That is why I do it because somebody appreciates it. As long as they continue to appreciate it, I will continue to do it; they are the ones that keep me going.

p.s Devin you hot ass hell

NEW YORK — Akon, under fire for doing a sexually explicit dance onstage with a 14-year-old girl, has offered an apology to the teen and anyone else who was offended by the display.

Akon, whose hits include "Don't Matter," "I Wanna Love You" with Snoop Dogg and "Smack That" with Eminem, was videotaped simulating sex with a girl invited onstage as part of his act during an April 12 concert in Trinidad. Since the incident, Verizon has pulled out as a sponsor of his tour with Gwen Stefani, for whom he wrote the hit "The Sweet Escape."

"I want to sincerely apologize for the embarrassment and any pain I've caused to the young woman who joined me onstage, her family and the Trinidad community for the events at my concert," Akon said.

Eminem donates money to Hip Hop 4 Habitat project

Eminem made a donation today to Hip Hop 4 Habitat, a project where members of the hip-hop community will build a home for a family in need.

The hip-hop superstar contributed an undisclosed sum of money to help launch the program through his Marshall Mathers Foundation, it was announced on WJLB-FM (97.9) this morning during the 7 o'clock hour.

Hip Hop 4 Habitat is looking to raise $75,000 to build the 1,100-square-foot home near Mack Ave. and Lakepointe St. on Detroit's east side. It's tentatively set to be built over one week in October.

Following the completion of the home, Detroit rapper Trick Trick -- who said today he will help build the home -- will give a concert for volunteers.

"Hip Hop 4 Habitat is meant to be a positive project and a way for the hip-hop community to come together and support a family in need," said Alyce Hartman, founder of A Prophetic Generation, a non-profit organization that partnered with Habitat for Humanity Detroit for the project. "We're so thankful Trick and Eminem are leading this effort."</br><div class="blogger-post-footer">http://feeds.comcast.rhapsody.com/calicasino/discography.rss</div>
