You may have noticed a new icon in your Windows System Tray that looks like the Windows 8 start menu icon. This magical icon lets you reserve your free copy of Windows 10 right now!

When you click on that icon, you’ll see the “How this free upgrade works” screen (shown above), with a button to “Reserve your free upgrade” in the lower left. Once you click the button, you’re done. You may optionally enter your email address to get a reminder to get a reminder about the update. Don’t worry if you change your mind; you can click on the icon in the system tray and cancel your upgrade.

You should also click on the hamburger menu in the upper left, and select “Your PC is ready”

You’ll see a screen that lists potential device or app comparability issues.

Do you need to create a complex application or product for SharePoint, or integrate an existing application with SharePoint? Are you concerned about the long-term effort of maintaining the application code base, or about migrating the application to SharePoint 2013?

This presentation focuses on applying the methodologies and architectural concepts of Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) to the task of creating complex SharePoint applications. We will see how a SOA approach can help us achieve a stable and scalable application or product, decrease support and maintenance costs by decreasing the application’s complexity, and reduce the effort required to upgrade the application to the next version of SharePoint.

Attendees will learn about the many challenges involved in creating complex SharePoint applications and how the principals behind SOA can be used to mitigate those challenges.

Office 365’s video demo of the web site editing process looked really compelling at first, but what we needed to know is whether it had the SharePoint publishing features we’ve grown to depend on for our web content management. We’ve made really heavy use of some awesome SharePoint features in our web site including:

• Publishing pages
• Content types
• Workflow
• Language variations
• Sub sites

To make a long story short, we could not use the Office 365 Web Site feature for our public site. I found this really handy table (see below) comparing Microsoft’s SharePoint Online Website offering with SharePoint Server’s web content management capabilities. Turns out there were some pretty critical gaps. So at least for now, our web site has to stay out of Office 365.

Part 1: Framing the Problem

Sometimes it is hard to see the forest through the trees. In this session Brad will start by the process involved when establishing the current pain points, practices and processes in place within a business that is trying to move forward in its goal for going from ungoverned to governed.

Part 2: Solving the Problem

In the second session Brad will address the issues discovered in part 1 and then discuss ways that the business can change its methods , design and processes in order to move to the compliant standards required. Establishing the required level of control is not always straight forward and this session will show you real world examples of how to turn the ungoverned to a governed and uncontrolled to a governed and compliant system in a regulated industry.
