Richard Michael "Dick" Folta, (Dziadz) age 75, of Point Place, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 25, 1936 in Toledo, OH to Victor and Cecelia (Szalankiewicz) Folta. Richard was employed as an Electrician/Gas Man for Libbey Owens Ford for over 30 years. A talented musician, he played the drums for over 70 years with many area bands, including: The Bob Zielinski Orchestra, Vic, Casey Orchestra, The Cavalier Orchestra, the Joe Raymond Trio, Chuck Dockery, The Jerry Zawodny Quintet, The Larry Richards Orchestra, The Jack Paul Combo, the Polish American Concert Band, and the Shriners, to name a few. Dick was a past Grand Knight of the St. Lawrence Council 4169, member of The Bishop Hoffman Assembly 807 (4th Degree), and member of The Honor Guard. He was also an Associate of the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania. He was a longtime parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and a member of the church's Holy Name Society. A loving husband, father, grandfather and family man, he enjoyed his music, fishing, winemaking, computers, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was quite the handyman, was generous with his time, and will be remembered for always putting others before himself. Dick is survived by his daughters, Sherrylynn (Victor "Skip") Taylor of Cranberry Township, PA and Susan (Keith) Snyder of Sylvania, OH; brother, Victor (Mary Ann) Folta and grandchildren, Sean (fiancée Janelle Pengiel) Taylor, Stacey Taylor, Christopher (Blaire) Taylor, Danielle Snyder and Matthew Snyder. In addition to his parents, Victor and Cecelia; he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Ann (Lukasik) Folta and second wife, Frances "Joyce" (Gajewski) Folta. Family and friends may visit on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. in the Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114-128 E. Alexis Rd., where members of the K of C St. Lawrence Council 4169 and St. John the Baptist Church will lead a rosary at 7 p.m., followed by the 4th degree Honor Guard presentation. Funeral Services will begin on Thursday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Memorial donations to the family will be distributed among the following organizations: Hospice of Northwest Ohio, the Knights of Columbus St. Lawrence Council 4169, and the Polish American Concert Band. It was fun to get out the instruments last night. We had a couple different conductors (Dave and Randy), played some music, and got ready for the new year.

Announcements:

Asking all members to pick a week during the year and bring/donate a snack. Drinks will be provided by the band. Sign up sheet is on the cooler, maintained by Stas'
Treasurer asks that you get in any past due ticket money.
Bob is working to update the music folders, please don't take them home just yet.
According to Stas', the current plan is for elections to be the first week of February.

Roger G. Barnes, age 79, a lifelong resident of Sylvania, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Ebeid Hospice Residence, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born January 7th, 1932 in Sylvania to the late Elta and Beulah (Grise) Barnes, Roger was the eldest of four sons. He was a 1950 graduate of Burnham High School. In 1957, Roger married Patricia Ann Schultz with whom he recently celebrated their 54th anniversary. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. A longtime member of Highland Meadows Golf Club, Roger was also an avid golfer. Operating The Roger G. Barnes Company for 32 years, he distributed custom engineered building products to schools, churches, and other industries. Roger's memberships were many and included: serving as Past President of the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce in 1981, Director of the Memorial Lutheran Chancel Choir for 34 years, directing the Seaway City Sweet Adeline Chorus to two successive regional championships and an 8th place finish in their first international competition in 1974, directing the Toledo Barbershop Chorus and later was a founder and the first Director of the Maumee Valley Chapter Chorus of S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A., member of the Toledo P.A.C. concert band, a member of the Zenobia Shrine Sylvania Pyramid Lodge and the Shrine Brass Band, a member of Olivet Lutheran Church- actively involved
in the music ministry and a member of their choir, directing the Toledo Civic Chorus, as well as the Toledo Hospital nurses choir. Roger's memory will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife: Pat; his sons: David (Karen), Brian (Susan), and Jeffrey (Annette); step-mother: Christine Barnes; grandchildren: Sarah, Annie, Nicole, Alex, Hannah, Jake, and Joseph; and brother: Dean Barnes. Visitation will be at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, on Sunday, August 14, 2011 from 2:00 PM until 7:00 P.M. The funeral service will be at Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe St., on Monday at 11:00 A.M, where friends are welcome to gather after 10:00 A.M.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer

Roger Barnes passed away this morning.

Roger was the Vice president of the PAC Band for the past 4 years and an active member of the band for more than a decade. Roger was a wonderful musician. He was vocalist and director of choirs - Roger and his wife Pat performed Beautiful Ohio with the band at a winter concert in 2006. When he joined the band he had not played his trombone since college, but quickly made progress. He is greatly missed as a friend and a musician.

Details of funeral arrangements will be forwarded as soon as they are known.

Stas & I just found out that the church is booked for this Tuesday July 26. They are having a vacation bible school during our rehearsal time. I wish I could have passed this along sooner, but that's sometimes how things go for us. So... no rehearsal on the 26th. See you in August!
