Cargo Container Covers at Foam Converting

Foam converting manufactures a line of Cargo Container Covers for the protection of perishable items during shipping, transit and storage. These covers are converted in our U.S. factory on our custom built laminating and pouch machines. More...

These cost effective insulating covers can be made with 1/8" or 1/4" foam and a high density liner can also be laminated to the inside of the foam for extra tear strength.

Many perishable shipping industries including Seafood, Meats, Chocolates, Wine, Cheeses and Paint have benefited from the thermal protection provided by our covers. The foam/foil combination is comparable to Styrofoam in insulating properties.

Foil / Foam Insulated Pouches

Foam converting manufactures a line of insulated bags for the protection of perishable items during shipping, transit and storage. These bags are converted on custom built laminating and pouch machines here at our U.S. factory.

Our insulated bags are constructed from metallized film laminated to polyethylene foam. This combination has insulating properties comparable to Styrofoam. More...

The benefit of these bags are:

 - Superior at insulating temperature sensitive items.
- More cost effective than Styrofoam.
- Better for the environment, recyclable.
- Less freight expense.
- Takes a fraction of the floor space.

Package Depot is a large manufacture of foam pouches. We produce over 10 million pouches every year for the moving and storage, art, trophy, and manufacturing industries. Our custom built pouch machines require little changeover time for quick turnaround on small or large volume runs. We currently make pouches out of white, anti-static and recycled green polyethylene foam in thicknesses of 1/16, 3/32, 1/8 and 1/4. We can also laminate a thin layer of high density film to our foam for a more tear resistant foam pouch.
Package Depot's Tri-lam Capabilities

Tri - lam is the combination of foil, foam and high density polyethylene film. This three layer combination has remarkable tear resistance as well as excellent thermal properties. See web page...

This process allows Package Depot to produce unique materials by providing different thicknesses of components to customize almost any client order. By adjusting the thickness of the foam different levels of thermal protection are achieved. The polyethylene film provides great tear resistance and can be applied to both sides of the foam layer (film/foam/film) to produce a very tough thermal material.

The sealing technology we use to bond our materials during the lamination process and the sealing technology we use for our bag seals were designed and built by us to create a consistent quality seal. We spared no expense with components used in the assembly of our equipment and that quality shows in our products.

Package Depot has designed and built their own proprietary laminating and pouch making equipment to convert foam, foil, bubble, paper, and film into roll stock, pouches, and sheets for a variety of applications. See foamconverting.com

 new calculators at Foam
Converting to quickly figure
the cost of a pouch/bag
using a variety of Materials

The materials of choice are
Foam, Foil, Paper, and Film.
Both the paper and foam
Testing results: Polystyrene vs. Foil/foam

This graph shows how our product stands up against polystyrene. The pictures below show how we
packaged the foil/foam and how we packaged the polystyrene. We wanted to make sure that the
inner dimensions for both containers were the same. The savings in weight allowed is to put 2
extra 16 ounce gel packs in the foil/foam bag. The weight of the molded polystyrene with
a cardboard box and the foil/foam bag with a cardboard box were both 11 pounds. See the
full site at foamconverting.com

As you can see both the polystyrene and our foil/foam packaging performed about the same for the
first 24 hours. However where we excelled was over the next 24 hours where we only gained 9
degrees and the Styrofoam gained almost 13 degrees. While this might not sound like much,
it can be the difference between your perishables getting to the destination frozen or thawed.
One of the added benefits to the foil and foam packaging is that because of the flexibility of the
material it allows for excess air to be pushed out of the packaging. We did not do this for
the test but would be of great improvement to the extension of the packaging staying cold.

 Benefits of foil/foam:

-Cheaper than same size polystyrene
-Smaller sidewalls so allows for more refrigerant in same box
-Better for the environment that polystyrene
-Significant reduction of inbound freight costs
-Reduction in storage space

Another great new product has arrived from Package Depot's New Product Division called 'Insulated Bags'. This new product was developed especially for the Seafood Industry, but has found its way to may other industries as a unique way of protecting temperature sensitive products during shipment.

These new insulated bags provide the thermal protection of styrofoam without the storage issues and at a very competitave price. These insulated bags can be reused and are made of a thermal sensitive foil laminated to foam. The foam thickness can be altered to fit the thermal protect that you may need. These thermal bags come in standard sizes (which fit in standard boxes within the industry) but the Division of Foam Converting delivers many different custom bags that are 'made to order'. The website that sells these is http://foamconverting.com and also has a unique calculator to give you a pretty close estimate of what a custom pouch would cost given the dimensions of the box and quantity desired. The calculator can be seen and tested at http://foamconverting.com/PRODUCTS2.ASP?CAT=2

A Subsidary of Package depot has introduced a new product called 'Insulated Pallet Covers'. The product can be seen and purchased at http://www.foamconverting.com .

This new product was developed from a desire for manufactures of temperature sensitive products needing thermal protection for all kinds of products from frozen fish to strawberries. The excellent thermal properties are comparable to styrofoam and is reusable! The quality of this product is also very remarkable, and you can order it in different foam thicknesses to match the thermal protection that you desire.

This new product and others such as insulated bags and pouches are being marketed to many different industries, i.e. Seafood, Airline, Storage, Wine, Pharmaceutical, Fresh Produce and many others. Pallet covers have been around along time but only recently has technology provided a way to economically provide thermal protection to compete with standard pallet cover pricing.

Just one more item coming from Package Depot's New Products Division.
