Rat Rod / Nostalgia Chassis Harness

A harness to address basic needs of wiring for a basic hot rod. It consists of all black wire that is color striped and printed for identification along it's complete length. Black wires make the harness less conspicuous in open cars. This 8 circuit harness has all the basic needs: headlights, tail lights, brake lights, turn signals, hazards, horn, gauges, wipers, radio, electric choke and one accessory circuit.

	PAINLESS GAUGE CONTROLLER

This controller is the easy way to interface aftermarket gauges with the late model GM LS engines. The CAN (Control Area Network) buss found on today's newer vehicles has a large amount of information regarding the engine and transmission. To use aftermarket gauges on these vehicles it is necessary to add additional sending units for each gauge. Why do this when all this data is available at the OBDII port ? By using this Gauge controller it eliminates the redundancy of adding additional sensors to your engine and it allows full programmability of whichever aftermarket companies gauges that have been purchased.

This system uses our High Amp Jump start solenoid to allow every possible amp to be used to restart the vehicle. It will allow charging of the auxiliary battery only after the main is fully charged. No manual switching or second guessing with this system.

With the continuous growth of the OFAA series, it seems a perfect fit to link Painless Performance and the Outlaw Fuel Altered Association, two entities that strive to be their leader of their respected field and bringing these entities together will be beneficial to both parties as big things are expected in 2011. The Painless Performance Motorsports representatives Dennis Overholser and Adrian Murray kept this partnership a secret for days and the two along with series President Bobby Marriott made the announcement in person at the OFAA awards banquet on January 15th which brought the OFAA populous to their feet giving Overholser, Murray and Marriott a well deserved standing ovation.

“We have watched the OFAA grow over the years and have always been impressed with the professionalism of their organization and with the exciting brand of racing they provide to drag racing fans. When the opportunity arose to be the title sponsor, it wasn’t a difficult decision. We look forward to another great year of racing and to many years of partnership with this great organization,” said Murray.

EFI Harnesses Engineered and Manufactured in the USA

	Pre-tested for GUARANTEED PERFORMANCE

PAINLESS fuel injection harnesses are pre-tested for guaranteed performance. Our customers deserve the assurance that after installing our harness it’s going to work! We connect all fuel injection harnesses to custom built, PART# specific continuity and pinout test boards to test each circuit for functionality and consistency in manufacturing. These test boards ensure each connection is working properly and that all pinouts are correct.

When you install a PAINLESS harness, we GUARANTEE it is going to work!

A wiring harness is only as good as its wire. PAINLESS harnesses use only TXL automotive grade wire. TXL wire handles more current and has a much higher temp rating than standard general purpose (GPT) wire used by many of our competitors. TXL wire is abrasion resistant and will not kink, which makes it much easier to route.

With PAINLESS harnesses, half the work is done for you.

PAINLESS fuel injection harnesses are 95% pre-terminated by special OEM tooled machines. All fuseblock terminals, ECM terminals and splices are pneumatically crimped for reliability and consistency. Our engineers design each fuel injection harness to be easily tailored to fit your vehicle. Every breakout is grouped and labeled which drastically reduces the amount of time it takes to install a harness. Each harness is OEM color coded and comes with a comprehensive, step-by-step installation manual. If you have a question it’s nice to know that we are just a phone call away at 1-800-423-9696.

Our quality and tech support is the best in the industry!

We are so confident in the quality of our product that we back our harnesses with a LIFETIME GUARANTEE; a promise of quality that is unmatched anywhere. This is a culmination of 20 years of market leadership, quality design and manufacturing innovative automotive products. This means you can be confident that when you install a PAINLESS chassis or fuel injection harness, you’re wiring your car with the very best there is!

2010 New Product Sneak Peek

Painless’ staff has been hard at work for this latter half of 2009 to bring some very innovative products to the market in the first quarter of 2010. Our engineers’ focus was shifted to solid state electronics and how that technology could be used to benefit our customers and installers. So, they looked at what new production vehicles offer as creature comforts and then devised some very innovative products that make it easy to enjoy these on just about any classic hot rod or off road vehicle. Let’s take a look at what they came up with…

The Latest New Product

Is old brittle engine wiring causing issues with you starting or charging circuits? Are you in the process of swapping from fuel injection to a carburetor and unsure about what to do with all the leftover factory wiring? Maybe you’re in need of a bare essentials wire harness for that off road project you’ve been putting together? The new Painless C.S.I. harness, p/n 30830, may be just what you need!

The C.S.I. harness is a universal weather-proof engine harness providing wiring to accommodate the Charging, Starting, and Ignition of just about any non fuel injected engine. Wiring from the engine to the gauge cluster is even included.

Vehicles that left the factory with carbureted engines are at this point in time at least 24 years old; in most cases they are much older. During the life of these vehicles, the engine wiring has seen hundred s of thousands of heat cycles, the wear and tear of use and owner modifications. There is no doubt problems with these circuits are usually the first of wiring woes. The C.S.I. harness is the Painless solution to repairing damaged wiring on these carbureted engines.

Sorting through the clutter of factory installed fuel injection wiring can make for some serious head scratching and be quite intimidating. This harness was designed with those of you in mind. The C.S.I. harness can take the guess work away from those swapping from fuel injection to a carb.

Have an off road project that just needs to run and drive, or maybe has all lighting run through a Painless switch panel? The C.S.I harness is perfect for those just needing a wire harness to handle the starting, charging, and gauge wiring to that project.

30830 includes a detailed full color* instruction manual, pre-wired 4 circuit fuse block providing switched and battery voltage, a Maxi Fuse for full harness protection, and wiring to accommodate the following:

Gauge connections (Water temperature, oil pressure, tachometer, gauge power / voltmeter, alt/charge indicator), Ignition Switch (Power In, Power Out, Start), Coil Power, Ignition Bypass, Electric Choke Power, Alternator Output, Alternator Switched 12v Source, Starter Signal, 30 Amp Max Switched 12v Accessory, 30 Amp Max Constant Power Accessory, One Un-Fused Constant Battery Power Accessory

*this instruction manual is shipped printed in black & white; a full color version is available through the website.

WHEN DESPERATION SETS IN

We noted with considerable amusement this statement on a website of a supplier of a water/methanol injection system, ostensibly aimed at Painless: "A diesel competitor has introduced a water injection kit that falls terribly short of the quality and function that any customer should expect."

Ouch. That's it. Nothing substantive to back up this rather inflammatory statement.

Now, we do not speak ill of competitors. Look through this website or look in any of our ads and you will never see us compare ourselves to anyone else. To do so is generally an admission of desperation which compels one to construct silly charts showing preselected and generally meaningless feature comparisons with other brands, omitting, of course, those features of the other brands that you are lacking.

We prefer to speak openly and honestly about the features and benefits of our products and believe our customers are intelligent enough to draw their own conclusions without misleading and often false accusations of competitors' products. To do otherwise seems, well, undignified.

So we invite you to look at all the features of the Striker ColdShot Water/Meth Injection System. Then look at what else is out there. Draw your own conclusions.

JEEP 4.0L CLARIFICATION

We have received many calls and emails recently concerning an item that appears in the July issue of JP magazine. The article states we are producing a replacement engine harness for the 4.0L Jeep engine. Here are the facts:

We are indeed working on a 4.0L harness, however it is designed to work with our PERFECT Engine Management System, not the stock ECM. We are in the process now of fine-tuning the calibration although we are not anticipating being in production prior to year-end. ECM calibrations require testing in a variety of road and weather conditions and we won't release it until it's right. We'll post updates here so you can follow the progress.

Yes, we are also working on a chassis harness for the Jeep YJ. We are currently in a prototype stage and would estimate another six months before first run production. Again, we'll post the progress here.

We greatly appreciate all the interest in these products. Should you desire more information just ask our tech department via email or phone at 1-800-423-9696.

WHY YOU NEED POWERSTAR

The other day we were working a booth at a car show when a customer approached. He had a 72 Chevelle with a 2004 LS1 engine, Vintage Air A/C, two cooling fans, halogen headlights and assorted toys like a DVD player and high-powered stereo. His problem was that he was only pulling 10 amps at low rpm and was draining his battery. The first thing he did was change to a higher volt battery. Didn't help. Then he installed a 150 amp alternator. When that didn't do the trick he wondered if he needed an even higher amp alternator. He was considering 200 amps and wanted our advice.

It's a common misconception: battery not charging properly? Buy a bigger alternator. It can also be a very expensive mistake.

Typically, higher amperage alternators generate those amps at higher rpm. The result is lower amperage at lower rpms. PowerStar Alternators solve this.

We teamed with Powermaster to create an alternator which would address real world needs. As more and more fuel injected engines are installed in older cars and as more and more electrical accessories like fans and fuel pumps and audio systems are added, traditional alternators just aren't up to the task. PowerStar Alternators are designed specifically to provide maximum amperage at low rpm.

The PowerStar Alternator generates a minimum of 70 amps at idle (approximately 2,000 alternator rpm). That will give you more than enough amperage to keep the battery charged under any circumstances. Check out these other features as well:

        Simple one wire operation

Adjustable voltage from 13.5 to 18.5 volts

        Perfect for 16 volt systems

Instantaneous response to increased loads for stable power supply

Front baffle and fan for improved cooling

PowerStar alternators are straight-mount, CS130-style alternators clocked at 12:00 and 6:00. They are available in natural finish, black or show quality chrome.

NEW WIRE-ONLY KITS

These cleverly named kits are now available due to customer request. Some stubborn old-timers it seems do not want the wire preattached to the fuse block. They'd prefer just to have all the necessary wire, terminated and spliced, and do it their way - which entails attaching a wire to the fuse block then routing it to an appliance such as a taillight. Extra work, we think, but who are we to deny those that which they want?

These new kits contain bundles of preterminated and spliced wires for any universal-type application, both 12 and 18 circuit. The wires which connect to the fuse block are terminated with fork terminals for use with a strip-style fuse block such as our 30001 and 30003.

THAT AMAZING POWERBRAID

Since we introduced it in 2005, PowerBraid Wire Wrap has become one of our hottest selling products. In fact, in 2006 over 60,000 feet of PowerBraid was purchased by Painless customers. That's a lot of wire wrap - especially when one considers we have never even advertised it.

What is the appeal of PowerBraid? First of all is the look. Unlike traditional convoluted tubing, PowerBraid does not have that hard plastic look. The best description is that it looks like braided hose and it really dresses up an engine compartment.

Second is that it is - again, unlike convoluted tubing - exceptionally easy to work with. The soft, almost cloth-like material has a lateral split along is length that easily closes in around the wire bundle without the need for additional tape or wire ties. The 10 mil braid is lightweight and flexible. The 25% edge overlap allows coverage around inline plugs, connectors and splices. PowerBraid will bend to a tight radius without distorting or splitting open and, unlike full rigid tubing, will not impair or affect the flexibility of the harness.

Finally, it's just an amazing material. PowerBraid retains its shape and rigidity from -103 degrees (f) to +260 degrees and has a melt temperature of +450 degrees. It's virtually indestructable.

So for your next wiring job add the finishing touch with PowerBraid from Painless.

MEET THE NEW BOSS

As the popularity and usage of diesel engines has exploded in recent years, so has the aftermarket for products increasing the performance and efficiency of these engines. A number of manufacturers - some well-known, some garden variety - now offer such products, some making competing, even conflicting, claims. Who to trust?

Well, trust Painless. We've been leading the way for nearly 20 years in automotive electrical products, from simple relay kits to sophisticated engine management systems. We now bring that leadership to the diesel market with our new Striker brand of performance diesel modules.

One of the key benefits of Striker over many other products on the market is that it is not a downloader. A diesel module which downloads a program onto your vehicle's ECU leaves a signature there - even if you delete the program. This could have serious implications for your warranty.

Striker modules are interceptors - that is, they mount between the ECU and the sensor they are controlling and reinterpret the data to increase the engine's performance. No trace is left on the ECU.

Striker modules are extremely compact and unintrusive in the vehicle's interior. They can be tucked up under the dash or mounted in a convenient place inside the cab. Both Striker I and the economical Striker II modules have multiple power levels to adapt to differing driving conditions and can be adjusted on the fly.

The Striker line also contains such innovative (and needed) products such as Striker TT and Striker FE. The Striker TT is highly recommended to extend the life of your turbo. The most common cause of turbo failure is improper cooling when the engine is turned off. Striker TT (Turbo Timer) will keep the engine running up to five minutes after the ignition is turned off to allow the turbo to cool and drain. You just set it and forget it. You'll never have to try to "remember" to let your truck idle for awhile.

The Striker FE is purely for fuel economy. It is precisely tuned for the optimum setting for the best fuel economy in a particular engine, typically 2 to 3 miles per gallon. You'll also see a performance increase in the 45 HP range.

If you have a diesel truck we encourage you to look into the Painless Striker Diesel Modules listed in our web catalog to the left.

COMING SOON FROM PAINLESS

Our engineers have been hard at it and we presented a record amount of new products at this year's SEMA Show last week - seventy five new products in all. That's quite an accomplishment and led to a heavy amount of buzz at the Painless booth all week. Over the next few weeks we'll be posting information on this page about these hot new products so be sure to check back regularly to see what's coming in 2007 from the leader in automotive electrical products.

First up, new from Painless are our PowerStar alternators and starters. These aren't just any off-the-shelf, run-of-the-mill alternators, either. PowerStar alternators are made exclusively for Painless by Powermaster to address a specific need: maximum output at low rpm.

Many car owners with fuel injected vehicles find that when they are running accessories such as air conditioning, electric fans and other amperage consuming devices, their battery is unable to handle the load when cruising at low rpm. Some even make the mistake of buying a high amp alternator to fix the problem.

But the problem isn't the maximum amperage output of the alternator, it's where that output is generated. Having 140 amps at 3,000 rpm isn't going to do you a whole lot of good if your alternator is only putting out 30 amps at idle. Chances are, if you're running a lot of accessories (especially if you have fuel injection), you'll drain the battery if you idle around for any length of time.

PowerStar is the solution to this dilemma. The PowerStar alternator generates 70 amps at idle (approximately 2,000 alternator rpm). That will give you more than enough amperage to keep the battery charged under any circumstances. Check out these other features as well:

	        Simple one wire operation

Adjustable voltage from 13.5 to 18.5 volts

	        Perfect for 16 volts systems

Instantaneous response to increased loads for stable power supply

Front baffle and fan for improved cooling

PowerStar alternators are straight-mount, CS130-style alternators clocked at 12:00 and 6:00. They are available in natural finish, black or show quality chrome.

If you've experienced inadequate operation of electrical accessories at low rpm, PowerStar is your Painless solution.

DIESEL MODULE UPDATE

In 2006 GM wanted all engines to look the same in the engine compartment. In the first production of 2006, GM installed the LBZ style engine and controlled it with a Delphi computer and dubbed it an LLY and it made about 310 horsepower. In October of 2006 the controller was changed to a Bosch unit and the engine then made about 360 horsepower and was renamed as an LBZ.
CATALOG UPDATE

If you have a catalog on order with us and wonder where it is, please hold on about two more weeks. We printed 100,000 catalogs in January and past history told us this would last us the whole year. Guess what? We ran out. So we had to do a quick update and order another print run. They are being printed right now (July 20) and we are told we will have them back in stock on August 3rd. We're hoping for a little sooner but that is the date the printer is giving us.

Sort of a two-edged sword. Long gone, apparently, are the days when a 10,000 piece print run would satisfy demand for a year. Considering the alternatives, we're looking forward to the day when 200,000 catalogs won't get us through June.

Anyway, we're sorry for the delay and will get your catalog to you as soon as possible.

TRANSFORMATION

One of the more satisfying developments of the past few years has been the successful transformation of Painless from what was primarily considered to be a manufacturer of street rod products into the leading supplier of electrical products for off-road trucks and Jeeps, muscle cars, race vehicles and now, late model fuel injected engines. In fact, fuel injection has been a major contributor to our recent growth, due primarily to the resounding (although not unexpected) success of our PERFECT Engine Management System.

We knew PERFECT would strike a chord with our customers. What the market needed was not another carburetor-to-fuel-injection conversion kit. Nor was the here, program the ECM yourself approach something people were clamoring for. Who was addressing the needs of the customer who already had a fuel injected engine and simply wanted to run it with maximum power and efficiency in a transplant environment without having to earn an advanced degree in computer programming first? No one that we could see.

In less than one year the PERFECT product line has grown from one system for GM Tuned Port engines into a broad offering of systems for LT1, LS1, LS2, plus Ford 5.0L and 4.6L. Each system achieves maximum horsepower, torque and fuel efficiency in these engines without any other modifications required. Simply plug it in and enjoy the ride.

The next evolution of PERFECT is our new HI-RPM series. For those of you who want increased performance from your engines but want to avoid the endless trial and error of programming the stock computer, these kits contain a camshaft which has been dyno-matched to the PERFECT ECM for powerful, guaranteed performance gains. The PERFECT LS1 HI-RPM system, for instance, generated 409 HP ?? a gain of 38 HP over stock. Everything is preprogrammed for you for hassle-free performance.

Additional PERFECT HI-RPM systems are in development right now. In fact, we just completed the construction of our new engine dyno cell to aid us in developing and perfecting these new applications. This state-of-the-art AVL/Digalog Benchmark dyno will allow for precision mapping of fuel, air and spark every 50 rpm for the most finely tuned ECM possible. You can read more about these systems on this site.

Market leadership is a position attained through innovation and a determined focus on the needs of the customer. At Painless, we lead; we do not follow. By the end of 2006, Painless?? leadership in performance fuel injection will be clear to all and we will continue to innovate and create new products which will improve the performance and simplify the operation of these engines.

The January issue of Hot Rod Magazine has an ad from Painless stating that the 60520 LS2 fuel injection harness is "now available."

Well, when that ad was produced back in September (due to long lead times with magazines) it was confidently projected that this harness would be available around the first of the year. Our normal procedure is to have the engineering group sign off on any "available now" type ads so as to avoid prematurely announcing something is available.

Well, this time we did not follow proper procedures with the result unfortunately being that it came back to bite us. The LS2 harness will not be available in January.

Ordinarily we do not make this mistake as we know how frustrating it is for you to be waiting on a product to complete a project only to find after months of waiting that the product is "still in engineering." We sincerely apologize for our error.

There are two issues remaining before we can bring this product to market: throttle by wire and VATS. We are very close to resolving these issues but even if we did so today the harness would not realistically be in production next month. (There are test fixtures, assembly boards, trial fitments still to be done.)

Barring anything unforeseen developing, we believe we can safely say this harness will be on the market by April 2006.

When we first began to plan the Rodders for Relief car rally to raise funds for hurricane relief, we felt we would have had a successful event if we could raise $3,000 or $4,000. Then, when products donated from manufacturers and vendors across the country started flowing in, we thought maybe $8,000 was an achievable figure.

We should have known better.

Rodders from across North Texas came together today in a display of generosity that in any other venue may have been surprising, but is quietly routine among the car community. At the end of the day total receipts from registrations, donations and the auction came to approximately $15,000. With matching funds from SEMA, that will equal nearly $30,000 in aid to victims of Katrina.

If you're reading this you are probably an automotive enthusiast. You should be very proud of the company you keep. The people who came to Painless today can only be described as amazing. Although the cars were beautiful to behold, everyone who came knew they had come for a greater purpose: to help fellow citizens in need. Many ignored the $20 registration fee and wrote checks or gave cash far in excess of what was asked. But the highlight of the day was the auction, where bidders sometimes increased their own bids to drive prices up. It didn't matter if the item was a bag of potpourri, a collection of sea shells or a nitrous system - the bidding pushed up prices until the auction alone raised nearly $9,000.

The people who came today came with a purpose. And that purpose was a quiet determination to help others, whom they did not know and probably never would know or meet. But in a certain and truer sense they were doing what only came natural to them out of an inate kindness and a communal goodness that required no acknowledgement, asked no recognition and accepted no reward. A friend they had never met, a neighbor they had never seen needed help. That was all the spark they required.

I am trying hard not to be overly effusive here, but it's hard. When, at the auction, one wonderful woman wrote out a check that greatly exceeded what had been the winning bid, it was obvious what we were witnessing here was not a mere car show or an auction but an affirmation - no, a resounding confirmation - of the human spirit. People came and gave and quietly drove away. There's no doubt their giving is not done.

On the drive home I passed a motel that is providing temporary housing to evacuees from New Orleans. In a gazebo near the street a half dozen people gathered as sunset approached. They have been there every evening for a week now. Were they aware of what just had transpired less than half a mile away, how strangers had come together to show they care? Does it matter?

Probably not. What matters is that America cares, that we all do what we can to help our neighbors in a time of need. Whether those in the gazebo knew why all those hot rods were rumbling by during the day is unimportant. Every day across the country people gather at car shows, sports events, schools and churches and private gatherings to help others. It's what we, as a people, do.

That's all that's important.

GULF COAST RODDERS IN NEED

Big Al Breland of http://www.streetrodding.com forwarded us an email from Rick Ashford of the Interstate Street Rod Club. Rick is acquainted with many of the car clubs in the Gulf region, most of whom have lost everything in Katrina's wake. Although we hadn't intended to single out any particular group to benefit from our fundraising efforts, we couldn't let Rick's request for assistance go unanswered.

So we've purchased a 23" color TV which we will raffle off at the Rodders for Relief show this weekend. Tickets for the raffle will be a dollar each and all proceeds will go to the Interstate Street Rod Club to help their friends in the Gulf. Further, we will have a separate donation booth set up for people who wish to make donations directly to support rodders in the Gulf.

Big Al has also generously donated a year's free premium advertising on his website to ad to the auction and we'll include these proceeds with what we raise in the raffle for the Gulf Coast car clubs.

The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) has announced that they will match any contributions made by industry members up to $50,000. The Performance Warehouse Association (PWA) will serve as a collection point, so all monies collected from the Rodders for Relief rally will be turned over to PWA to take advantage of this generous offer. You can read about SEMA relief efforts here: www.sema.org/disasterrelief

Many customers have telephoned or emailed us who will not physically be able to attend the rally but want to register anyway so they can make a donation. That is fine and we encourage that. Please make a check out to a recognized relief agency such as the Salvation Army or the American Red Cross for the $20 registration fee and we will send you a Rodders for Relief dash plaque. Do not make the check out to Painless or to Rodders for Relief.

RODDERS FOR RELIEF

September 17 Car Show and Rally to Raise Funds for Katrina Victims Join us in Fort Worth on Saturday, September 17 for a rod run to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The enormity of this disaster is heartbreaking with so many millions without food, clothing or shelter. We all must do everything we can to ease the suffering and provide relief. Painless, in cooperation with the Arlington Area Street Rod Association, is organizing a Rodders for Relief car show at our Fort Worth facility. We are soliciting registration fees of $20.00 per vehicle, 100% of which will be donated to charity. We are asking fellow manufacturers around the country to donate products which can be auctioned off to raise money. Let's all pull together and help our fellow Americans.
