Sometimes taking the emotional attatchment we have to things away, we can then see the plain facts left behind. If I reflect on things that have happened in my life that I have had a bad emotional attatchement to and just approach it with “What is the story and what are the facts?” Stripping away the story I have created to the event, I would probably realise that I had turned it into something it wasn’t and can potentially leave my negative connections towards it behind.

When im sitting at a sewing machine and the hours are flying by I often realise later that it was an experience similar to meditation. Once the workshop is all set up and we get back behind the sewing machines I plan to take this question with me and consider aspects of my life that I would like to lay to rest.

Take a moment to think about it.

Having faith the right thing will come along is hard when creativity is bursting from the seams… the fabrics ready, I’m ready but the space isn’t!

Revisiting the pictures from a recent shoot is torture…. I WANT TO MAKE…. NOW!!

The other week as the deadline for quilts for the first official photo shoot was drawing near, I arriv

ed

at

the studios to find the team in a battle against the clock to get everything done. After admitting that I actually used to work as a machinist (this information was received rather loudly due to the fact that I had never brought it up before…he he,) I was put to work. It is the first time I had been shown the proper quilting techniques and I found it rather therapeutic. Time seemed to fly as the stitches formed across the fabrics. After a long evenings work we got there in the end and by the morning were ready for the first photo shoot.

The shoot was a success and it really feels like were making great headway in all that is Painted & Patched.

My Dream List before the Years Out

We all make lists when we have deadlines, crazy schedules and so many must do’s bursting out our brains, why don’t we make lists for th

e bigger stuff, the dreams, the where to’s? Maybe we do, maybe we hide them because sharing dreams is scary stuff. Fear we wont get there and then we’ve shared it all and then everyone knows you didn’t quite get there.

I’ve got a few things dancing around and as much as one can ‘know’ ‘hope’ and ‘believe’, I’m going for these before the years out!

o No student over draft

o Cutting out bread (mostly)

o Laugh more

o Staying happy and in control after being on the receiving end of huge deceit in my life. It happens to us all and we don’t always see it coming but the main thing is getting straight back up again.

o Buy my New Mini

o Read that book I’ve been meaning to read, which has strong life consequences once it’s done! You can do it Karuna and follow the path after.

o Start meditating

o Launch Painted and Patched – so exciting!!!

o Earn that figure I wrote down before the years out.
See I’m scared too, why not just write it down?! But then I’ve told the world and if I don’t succeed, then what? Failure? Or maybe the things we don’t achieve, are the things we didn’t believe in enough.. enough to share. Still something I’m working on…

o Go dancing till sunrise

One thing I know, It’s all coming true.

I first met Natalie when she returned to her beach home in Thailand

with her new born baby girl. She is a massively talented and caring woman who at the time was building up an amazing restaurant, being a new mum and through the daily chaos of life there, sustaining a fantastic sense of humour!

Karuna and I knew eachother vaguely through mutual friends. It wasn’t until she dropped in to say hi to me in Thailand on her travels that we really got to know eachother. Karuna and Nat met then too, so in many ways our friendships all began at the same time. Since then Karuna has started and finished her degree, started the business with Nat, and has many other sidelines. She is super motivated, energetic and seems to get more done in a day than I do in a week!

Now all based in England I feel lucky for the time we all spent on a little beach in Asia. Both these amazing women have a special place in my heart. I am constantly inspired by their vision, motivation and attitudes towards life. It is an honour to be working with them!
