The brass valve in a propane cylinder will be damaged if it comes in contact with anhydrous ammonia. This deterioration will lead to cracking of the valve body or its components and can ultimately result in a violent, unexpected expulsion of the valve from the cylinder, causing personal injury or death.

 
Snopes says that propane tanks that are used to transport the anhyrous ammonia ARE dangerous….but it is UNDETERMINED if they are being returned to retailers such as Wall-mart.  Better safe then sorry, so I am passing this on as an FYI

Meth cooks are getting the propane tanks from the exchanges at Wall-Mart, Kroger, etc. and emptying them of the propane. Then, they are filling them with anhydrous ammonia (which they now have a recipe for by the way). After they are finished with them, they return them to the store. They are then refilled with propane and sent back for you and me to buy. Anhydrous ammonia is very corrosive and weakens the structure of the tank. It can be very dangerous when mixed with propane and hooked up to our grills, etc.

You should inspect the propane tank for any blue or greenish residue around the valve areas. If it is present, refuse to purchase that one.’ Check out the following website for more details. They also have pictures you can show.

 This is a GREAT reason NOT to swap out your empty at a retail location like   convenience stores, Wall-Mart or gas stations. Another reason why I go to a licensed dealer ( U-Haul ) that sells propane because they will weigh it, and fill it, right in front of you and this way you can NOT be scammed with  a half filled tank. Next time you go to swap your empty for what you think is a FULL tank take a bathroom scale along and check it out. Your tank should weigh 20lbs, and by law they can ONLY fill about 18lbs of gas, so you should be around 38lbs of total weight. I brought one home and weighed it and it only had 14lbs in it…. and another had 16lbs….so I stopped swapping and started going to U-Haul after that….

I think 20/20 or Dateline should do an investigation on these rip-off artists because when they short you on propane, and sell it for full when in fact sometimes it’s barely half full, by the end of the month, world wide, I would venture to say they have pocketed MILLIONS!!…..

Now if I’m in a real hurry for some gas I will use this method

Today, Iraqi soldiers, not militia thugs, patrol the lanes of Sadr City, where waste has replaced roadside bombs as the greatest danger to careless footsteps. US advisers and troops support the effort, but Iraq’s government has taken another giant step forward in establishing law and order.

My fellow Americans, have you read or seen a single interview with any of the millions of Iraqis in Sadr City or Basra who are thrilled that the gangster militias are gone from their neighborhoods?

Experts called the ruling a great victory for ‘Illegal’ GAY Mexicans.

An act of bravery to defend a co-worker has cost a Minnesota gas-station attendant his job.

Mark Beverly, an overnight shift supervisor at a SuperAmerica in Roseville, Minn., was fired in March after he jumped on a masked robber who he believed was attacking a fellow employee.

SuperAmerica said he violated company policy when he came to his colleague’s aid in the early morning of March 26. So instead of accolades, Beverly got the boot.

Adding insult to injury, Beverly — who is still looking for another job — has been denied unemployment benefits. He will appeal that decision on June 5.

The trouble began around 3 a.m. when Beverly was cleaning the bathroom and his female co-worker was behind the cash register. Beverly said he heard her scream, so he ran out and saw a robber wearing a blue-stocking cap jostling with her.

“It looked like he was hurting her, so I jumped on him,” Beverly said. “I just tried to bang him on the counter a couple of times.”

After a tussle, he said, the robber regained his footing and looked as if he was going to pull out a weapon. Beverly said the man told him, “Don’t be a hero,” before fleeing the store with about $15.

Beverly called police and reviewed security tapes with his managers before completing his shift. “Everything was fine,” he said.

The next day, however, he was fired for violating company policy.

Marathon Petroleum Company, the owner of the SuperAmerica chain, said Beverly was told what to do in the company handbook — which advises employees to “cooperate: don’t argue, resist or attack the robber” — and through a computer-based training program Beverly was required to complete when he was hired.

“He endangered himself and her, and that’s why we have the policy,” said Linda Casey, a Marathon spokeswoman. “And we have enforced it with other employees, not just with him.”

“I just thought it was wrong, that’s all,” said Beverly, who had worked at SuperAmerica for just over a year. “You’re not really trained for a robbery, and that was the first robbery I have ever been in in my life.”

Capt. Rick Mathwig of the Roseville Police Department said authorities advise people not to take action when faced with a robbery.

“When you start resisting at some way shape or form, the suspect who may not have intended on using the weapon that he or she came with may use it intentionally or unintentionally when faced with a conflict,” he said.

Roseville police have listed the case as inactive as they have not been able to identify the robber. The only image of him is partial profile and his face is obscured by the stocking cap, Mathwig said.

The security tape did not show the female co-worker struggling with the robber over the cash-register drawer, Casey said.

“The female employee was never attacked,” she said. The robber reached in and grabbed cash out of the drawer.

“We have a statement from both [Beverly] and the female employee,” Casey said. “Neither one of them say anything about her being attacked, hurt or anything, and the video we have substantiates it.”

Beverly said that from his vantage point, he thought she was being attacked.

“With both of them so close it looked — from the angle that I was at — it looked like she was being attacked,” he said.

The approval rating for Congress is now “the lowest it has been since Gallup first tracked public opinion of Congress with this measure in 1974,” Jeffrey Jones of the Gallup Poll reports today.
According to Jones: “Just 18% of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing, while 76% disapprove, according to the August 13-16, 2007, Gallup Poll.

 That 18% job approval rating matches the low recorded in March 1992, when a check-bouncing scandal was one of several scandals besetting Congress.”
As he also notes, the Democratic-led Congress has had a very brief honeymoon and stands lower in Americans’ eyes than President Bush:
Currently, 32% of Americans approve of the job Bush is doing as president, a far cry from the record-high 90% he received in September 2001.

 Bush’s current job approval rating is just three percentage points above his lowest.
There was a slight interruption in the downward trend in congressional approval ratings at the beginning of this year when party control changed hands from the Republicans to the Democrats following last fall’s midterm elections.

 In January 2007, 35% of Americans approved of Congress, a significant increase from the 21% who approved of Congress in December 2006.

 That December rating tied the lowest in the 12 years the Republicans controlled Congress from 1995 to 2006.
But that “honeymoon” period for the new Democratically controlled Congress was brief, as its job ratings dropped below 30% in March 2007 and have now fallen below where they were just before the Democrats took over

A Minneapolis couple decided to go to Florida to thaw out during a particularly icy winter. They planned to stay at the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years before.

Because of their hectic schedules, it was difficult to coordinate their travel schedules. So, the husband left Minneapolis and flew to Florida on Friday, and his wife was flying down the following day.

The husband checked into the hotel, and unlike years ago, there was a computer in his room, and he decided to send an email to his wife.

However, he accidentally left out one letter in her E-mail address, and without noticing his error, sent the email to the wrong address.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Houston .. a widow had just returned home from her husband’s funeral. He was a minister who was called home to glory after suffering a heart attack.
 
The widow decided to check her E-mail, expecting messages from relatives and friends. After reading the first message, she screamed and then fainted. The widow’s son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and then glanced up and saw the computer screen which read:

       Indiana Man Operates Oil Well in Backyard, Producing   Three Barrels of Crude a Day
SELMA, Ind. — It’s just a drop in the global oil bucket, but an eastern Indiana man is operating an oil well in his backyard in an effort to capitalize on soaring crude prices.

 
Greg Losh’s rig produces three barrels of crude oil a day, he hasn’t started selling it yet.

 For now, he and his partners are keeping it in storage containers.
He declined to say how much oil they’ve collected in the two weeks they’ve been pumping.
But as oil is going for about $127 a barrel on the international market, three daily would yield just under $400 a day for Losh on the global spot market — or 1/100,000 of the daily production increase the Saudis agreed to earlier this month.
Still, in spite of those returns and the $100,000 it costs to drill a well, it’s worth it to Losh considering the current price of oil.

 The oil his well produces comes from the Trenton field that fueled the growth of east-central Indiana cities more than a century ago.
He expects to drill four more wells soon on his property in the town of Selma about 55 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
