Hello Paper Issues friends, this is Cassie W and today I am here to share my take on the June 29th sketch challenge for June. I also wanted to take a moment to share that this will be my last blog post with Paper Issues. Teacher's Pet: Senior Status 2022

Hello PI fans and friends! Stacie here on the Paper Issues blog! Today we are all about the June Challenge: Teacher's Pet which is part of our Yearbook Theme. I am documenting my son's senior year as he made the most of his last year of high school. He decided to take on leadership roles, take classes at the local community college, volunteer, work after hours at a job, play a new sport, as well as, write a speech to speak at graduation to name just a few of the senior year highlights. He is definitely a hardworking person that lives life to the fullest!

All of the page elements other than the Ink Blot stitching stamps are from a Spring Paper Issues Scrapbook kit that featured PinkFresh Studio paper, mini alpha stickers, and frames. I included the Pretty Little Studio labels, PTE roller stamp, and Simple Stories wood grain paper and Crafty Girl ephemera that are also part of the same kit!

I wanted the top of the photo layers to look like a messy pile of "to do" items in his binder or backpack.

The Ink Blot stamps are not in stock in the shop, however, the Pretty Little Studio stitching stickers are absolutely perfect for this same look!

The bottom 2022 is included in the free file called A Banner Year and worked perfectly with this bokeh lights picture and the patterned Happy Heart Pinkfresh paper with pastel bubbles.

I love the look of mini puffy alpha stickers that can be grouped to make a long sentiment or title. The labels are the perfect way to give them an organized space and allow you to color group them if you struggle like I usually do to use up alpha stickers that come in multi-colored packs!

Precious Scraplift Sunday Memories

Good morning, everyone! Wendy here with you to start your week with a new Scraplift Sunday layout! This week we are lifting one of Jessica's layouts. You can view it by clicking here. I hope you checked out her layout to see all the things YOU can be inspired by! Let me show you what I came up with.

Isn't it gorgeous?! I absolutely love the frames! It's my favorite part! I also love the PinkFresh paper she used with the rainbow going down the right side of the page. I considered doing a mixed media layout myself, but I decided to take the easy way out and let the paper do the work for me!! I went for my Pretty Little Studio Grateful Heart collection again and started with the Grace 12x12 paper. I used the matching Acetate Stitching Stickers to mimic the stamping she did. That was the easy part. I had no idea what to do about the frames. Now, there is a pack of Grateful Heart frames and tags available in the store!! But I didn't have that in my stash. However, I did have frames from the Wild at Heart from Cocoa Vanilla Studio. And with the new CVS line coming soon, what better time to use up these frames for this lift?! I thought they paired perfectly together. From there it was super easy! I inlcuded ephemera and labels from the Favorite Season, Floral Centerpiece, Sweet Spice Labels, and Taste of Home packs. I also used puffy Thickers from the Vicki Boutin Sweet Rush collection. Have a look at my detail photos!

Save the Planet | Sarah

Happy Thursday, PI friends! It's me Sarah hosting today's blog post, and I'm excited to share another June Yearbook Challenge. Are you lovin' these or what?! Today, we are working with the "Save the Planet" challenge.

This challenge is about the "most likely to save the planet". You don't have to take that literally; instead, maybe use round elements, planets, or stars. Or maybe you could document your recycling efforts, something that you planted, a day you helped clean up the community. There's so many ways directions to take for this one.

Here's my take on this challenge:

So, it's pretty apparent that I felt inspired to use stars for this layout. Stars is always a sure bet embellishment. You can use it on pretty much every type of layout.

To get this one done, I used the No Limits collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studio. I was drawn to this collection specifically for all of the star embellishments.

I lined the stars diagonally to help split up my layout.

This tab stamp from Elle's Studio is one of my favorite staple sets. I stamped it onto white cardstock, and just cut it out. With a simple tab, you can add so much dimension to your page.

Show Your Tail Feathers || Wednesday Sketch

Good morning, friends! Happy Wednesday, aka: Sketch Day! Kat popping in to share with you!

Today's sketch was made by the awesome Sarah Kee:

I really like that the sketch leaves a lot of room for adapting to your own style. Do you want to use patterned paper? Mixed Media? Stamping? How about all three? I actually attempted to do all three, although my mixed media game has never been incredibly strong.

I knew I wanted to document some recent photos of my daughter stalking peacocks at a ranch we visited recently. The photos are not that great, but the story is so I wanted to get it down. I also FINALLY got to use the awesome "Birds of a Feather" paper from Pebbles (Jen Hadfield's Reaching Out collection) that I have been hoarding for a year (and it's still in the store)! When I bought the paper last year, I had no clue what I was going to use it on, but I knew I loved it. I had accepted that it was just going to be one of those papers that I will still have 10 years from now lol. Here's what I whipped up:

I began by stamping my background with some Ink Blot Shop stamps and then splattering around some different colors. I then decided to mount my photos on the peacock paper. I put the photos down rather haphazardly, as my layout was leaning towards the "messier" side. I departed from the sketch a bit by adding in a large title and a rip at the bottom so I could show off more peacocks. Also, in case you're wondering, my title is exactly what my daughter kept yelling at the peacocks :)

Scraplift Sundays Take You Away

Good morning, everyone! Wendy here with you to start your week with a new Scraplift Sunday layout! This week we are lifting one a layout from yours truly! You may see my original layout by clicking here. I hope you are inspired by it and play along with this scraplift challenge. And now that you've seen the layout, let me show you how I lifted myself.

As you can tell, this layout looks absolutely nothing like the original layout I created... and that's ok! I wracked my brain coming up with the first idea and I was stumped on how to do it again. But let me explain to you what is similar about these two layouts. Both layouts have stitching, rectangle photos, word phrases, black splatters, and color matched titles and embellishments.

I started this layout using Vicki Boutin's Good Vibes 12x12 paper and stitched a border on each wave. I took a second sheet of the same paper and cut the Dropping the Beat free cut file. That file has music notes and I thought it was so fun and fitting for this special photo of my husband's uncle playing the guitar. I color matched the music notes and popped them up with pop dots. I colored coordinated my Bella Blvd alphas and puffy hearts to the color wave too. I added black splatters, then my layered photo next. I used a paper and the May cut apart label from Elle's Studio and stickers from Cocoa Vanilla Studio. My word phrase stickers, chipboard stars, and wooden buttons are also from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Legendary collection. For extra added embellishments I used Vicki Boutin puffy sticker Thickers from the Sweet Rush collection too. This whole layout was super easy because I didn't overthink it like I did the first time. Work it | Jessica | Most Likely to Succeed Challenge

Hello everyone! Jessica here, and today I’m sharing my take on the Most Likely to Succeed challenge! This challenge is to document something/someone successful, Journal about what you feel success is so I'm documenting some photos of my hubby working on our farmhouse reno!

I started my layout with a sheet of Vicki Boutin Foundations paper to hold all my mixed media. I simply swiped the faded jeans distress oxide pad from top to bottom a few times to start my background. I then added various stamps from my stash and from Ink Blot Shop to add some dimension with some other distress oxide colors.

I've added embellishments and stamping from Vicki Boutin Sweet Rush collection which really seemed to match well just pulling out the blues, blacks, and yellows! I then added my title around my photos which I cut into circles and backed with papers from the 6x8 paper pad also from the Sweet Rush collection. For the title, I used Bella Florence alphas and Pinkfresh Studio alphas.

I've added some thread, splatters, and washi tape along the sides to finish this one up! I just love how this came together!

June #3 Sketch | Sarah

Happy Wednesday, PI friends! It's me Sarah hosting today's blog post, and I'm excited to be sharing another one of May's sketches! I'm sure you all know by now how much I love Wednesday for these Paper Issues sketches, so you know I had a lot of fun with this challenge.

Without further ado, here's this week's sketch created by Kelly:

I used the Sun Chaser collection designed by Heidi Swapp. Isn't it a beauty?! I love how dreamy the color palette is on these papers.

And here are some up close, detail photos of my layout:

To get the stitch lines, I used the Elle's Studio Home Sewn Stitch stamp. I think the PI store is currently sold out, but the Elle's Studio clear acetate stitch stickers are available. These would work well too!

Even the embellishments to this Heidi Swapp collection are gorgeous. I love the watercolor, artsy look to all of it. A handful of the embellishments that are seen on this layout come from this Heidi Swapp sticker book. There are hearts, stars, photo corners, just to name a few.

Seeeeeee - more hearts and stars! Eek, so cute!

When I saw this challenge I knew I wanted to create my own background with letter stamps. I used a variety of letter stamps from Elle's Studio in black and grey inks. I then used the Sun Chaser collection from Heidi Swapp. The last think I added were the little star stamps from Elle's Studio in Saltwater Taffy and Salvaged Patina.

Scraplift Sunday is the Best

Good morning, everyone! Wendy here with you to start your week with a new Scraplift Sunday. Today we are lifting one of Becky's incredible layouts! You may view that by clicking here. Her layout is so pretty, fresh, and clean. I love the minimalistic look that she has for this layout... and it is so not my style! But that's the best part about Scraplift Sunday!! The whole point is to challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and try something new whether it's a new technique, style, design, brand, or whatever inspires you to try something new!

My tendency is to throw everything on my page. I love to add layers and dimension and sometimes I don't know when to stop. However, I was able to do that here while still staying true to Becky's original design. Something else I loved about Becky's layout is I saw it as an opportunity to do some stashbusting.

Here we are half way through the year and it doesn't feel like summer has taken full effect yet. But I know those beautiful fall lines are coming and I wanted use some things in my stash. I started with the Harvest Moon paper and used the backside. It has a very faint pattern on it. I love it because it doesn't distract from all the other papers and patterns. I paired it with some scraps from my October 2020 Paper Issues kit. From there I pulled out Pretty Little Studio's Grateful Heart collection. I used several things from the collection including the Favorite Season Die Cuts and Sweet Spice Labels. Have a look at some detail photos.

See the detail on the background paper here? I love how faint it is!

I also pulled out my Not So Heavy Metal sequins can and added some for extra sparkle.

Anyone else leave their tags empty? I tried to add black and white baker's twine and it just didn't look right. I prefer my tags to be empty. Also, this is a family photo of a dear friend of mine! Isn't her family beautiful?

For this challenge, I could have picked any of my grandchildren, because they are the most popular people in our family. I had this sweet photo of my granddaughter and felt inspired to go with it. I decided to get messy on this page and started with some Ranger Distress Oxides. I used Dusty Concord for my background and Lindy's Starburst Sprays in Sweet Violet purple teal. I love the sheen and depth you get from adding Lindy's. Then I added some splatters in Dusty Concord and Ranger Distress Oxide Seedless Preserves. I used a few older Pinkfresh Studio collections for my page, but you can find lots of Pinkfresh in the Paper Issues store. I finished my page with some enamel dots and Elle's Studio Heart & Star chipboard stickers.

Care Free | Jessica | Sketch Wednesday

Hello everyone! Jessica here, and today I’m sharing my take on today’s Wednesday sketch by Cassie W! I’ve decided to take a different approach to this sketch as I’ve been using a lot of paper strips lately so I chose to do some machine stitching and mixed media instead!

I started my layout with the Vicki Boutin Sweet Rush stencil that looks like waves as it was perfect to go with these photos of my son playing in the water. As soon as I saw this stencil set in the shop I knew I had to have it as it will be perfect for so many things! I blended a few distress oxide colors with my blending brushes and the stencil to get an ombre effect.

Next, off to my sewing machine I go to sew some vertical lines to make it look similar to the sketch design!

I layered my photos using some patterned papers from the 6x8 paper pad from the Vicki Boutin Sweet Rush collection. I cut some tags for behind my photos from my Elle's Studio tag dies and distressed the edges. I then added my title using the sticker book and some embellishments from the collection as well.

I've finished it off with some twine, date stamp, these lovely little banner strips from the collection, some splatters, and sequins from the shop!

Hello Paper Issues friends, this is Cassie W and today I am here to share my take on the Best Dancer for June. Make sure you are playing along in the Paper Issues {Friends & Fans} Facebook group for a chance to win a monthly prize. I really wanted to try something different on my layout this time. I stared with some Vicki Boutin Foundations Paper and the Heart Stencil from the Sweet Rush collection with the Translucent Distress Texture Paste from Tim Holtz. Once that was dry, I used blending brushes to add distress oxides (Picked Raspberry, Wild Honey, Wilted Violet, Chipped Sapphire). I splattered water on the background for the resist effect and then wiped the ink off the hearts as well. Finally I added the flowers (fussy cut), papers and embellishments from the Vicki Boutin Sweet Rush collection. The date stamp is from Paige Evans.

Scraplift Sunday Fun Captured

Good morning, friends! Wendy here with you today to share with you this weeks new Scraplift Sunday inspiration. This week we are lifting a fun layout from Cassie!! You can view her original layout by clicking here. It's such a fun layout and there are so many things to take inspiration from-- the color blocking, the 4 block grid design, the mixed media, the small embellishments.

If there's one thing I know about Cassie, it's that she loves her hometown of Kansas City and her special KC t-shirts. She probably loves them even more than I love my collection of Golden Girl t-shirts. So that's what I wanted to scrap, a few pictures of some of my favorite shirts. I created a similar color blocked grid and matched the color of my paper scraps to my t-shirts. All of my scraps and embellishments came directly from my stash and the majority of my chipboard and labels are from Elle's Studio. I used the free Stay Golden cut file from the Paper Issues store and colored it with Villainous Potion and Wilted Violet distress inks. This layout was so fast and easy to make! My Class Clown

Good morning everyone! Kat here to share my layout for this month's Class Clown challenge. I knew this would be an easy one for me because my kid is so silly and goofy. I absolutely adore her for it and I have no shortage of ridiculous photos to scrap. :)

I decided to scrap a funny series of photos that I took of her recently. I also decided I wanted to use up some of my stash on this layout. I began by using some star layering stencils from Pinkfresh Studio to make my background. Then I layered on a scribbled circle cut file that I doodled. I added my photo strips on top of that, some doodle stamps from the Ink Blot Shop, and then I just sprinkled around random embellishments - hearts, wood veneers, etc.

Hi Paper Issues Friends, Kim here and I'm back with the first sketch of the month. I love sketches, they are such a great starting point for a page. I definitely got inspiration from this fun sketch designed by the talented Kelly Feldman, but then I put my spin on it. Make sure to head over to the Paper Issues Friends and Fans Facebook group so you can play along with all of the fun challenges each month.

This sketch shows six photos, but I only used one photo and went with lots of layers. I did actually manage to get part of my title in the same spot as shown on the sketch. I used Pinkfresh Studio Life Right Now collection for my page and you can find it in the Paper Issues Store with all the things!

I used the, "Enjoy the Little Things," strip as part of my title. It is from the Time for Fun 12 x 12 paper from the collection. I used a lot of the florals from the ephemera pack and fussy cut them to use just the colors and sizes I needed. I used some of the Life Right Now chipboard frames around my photo and lots of chipboard flair, ephemera and finished with enamel dots and some ink splatters.

I started my page by using the free Diamond Are Forevah Cut File that I backed with various papers from the Vicki Boutin Fernwood Collection. I added some of the embellishments from the collection and then finished up my page with the Elle's Studio light blue Jane Tile Alphabet stickers, the Currently Stamp along with sayings from the Springtime Tab Stamp.

Hooray for Scraplift Sunday!

Good morning, everyone! Wendy here with you to start your week with a new Scraplift Sunday. Today we are lifting one of Stacie's layouts. As always, it's absolutely incredible and you may view that by clicking here. I love Stacie's layout! It's so pretty to look at and very inspiring. My two favorite things about it is the gradient stripe in the center of the page and the angle at the bottom.

As I have since this Birthday Blast collection from Simple Stories came out, I make a birthday layout from my son. He just celebrated turning 12 and that breaks my mom heart as he isn't so little anymore. I really like this collection because of the fun colors! I picked the rainbow stripe paper and cut it at an angle to get a look similar to Stacie's. I hand stitched down the sides because it wouldn't be a Wendy layout without the details of stitching. I centered my photo on the stripes and added two clusters of embellishments to the left and right just like Stacie. I pulled coordinating chipboard and ephemera for the birthday collection and a chipboard title from Elle's Studio. The layout wouldn't be complete without tiny sequins stars, extra thread, black splatters, and black Florence numbers from Bella Blvd. All of those little extra details finish off the layout and make it look perfect. Love You | Jessica | Triangle Challenge

Hello everyone! Jessica here, and today I’m sharing my take on the triangle challenge! I'm documenting a sweet photo of my little one playing at the campground playground on one of our trips last year!

I started this layout by using my triangle dies with my big shot and cutting a bunch of them in scraps of the Cocoa Vanilla Studio No Limits collection. I placed them around my page just to get a feel for where I wanted them all to go but didn't glue them down yet.

I then went to work on my background stamping using distress oxides in black soot and faded jeans. I stamped using some stamps from Elle's Studio and miscellaneous ones from my stash! Ya'll know I love to add a bit of grunge to my layouts! I also added some triangles using the Hero Arts brush and the Retro Triangles stencil by Simple Stories. I finished it off with some light embellishing from the No Limits collection, my date stamp, and glued down my triangles. Voila! DONE! This was a quick and easy one! You could even use this free cutfile for your triangles if you wanted to!

Wednesday, Sketch Day!

Good morning, friends! Kat here today to share the newest sketch with you! I always love a good sketch and this one by Sarah Kee does not disappoint. I love that the sketch is simple enough that it gets the creative juices flowing, but that it also still provides room for you to add your own touch to it. Here's the sketch we're working with this week:

I actually decided to stick to the sketch pretty closely. I started with a Vicki Boutin mixed media background. I still find those so amazing and it cuts a crazy amount of time off the creative process if you're itching to create but don't have a lot of free time to do so. Once I picked out the perfect background paper, I grabbed the new Full Bloom collection from Simple Stories. It was perfect for the photos I was scrapping and it matched the VB background paper SO WELL. And because it's almost impossible for me to complete a layout without Pretty Little Studio acetate stitches, I popped some of those on the page to finish off my project.

My Whole Heart | Hexagon | Cassie W

Hello Paper Issues friends, this is Cassie W and today I am here to share my take on the hexagon shape challenge for May. Make sure you are playing along in the Paper Issues {Friends & Fans} Facebook group for a chance to win a monthly prize. There are always new challenges, daily chats, Live scrapbook events and so much more!

I used my 2" hexagon punch to cut these out of various papers from the Bella Blvd Time to Travel collection (sold out in the shop). Once I arranged them on my page and added some doodle lines, stamps from Ink Blot Stamps and some embellishments and stickers from the Bella Blvd collection. I wanted my picture and the hexagons to stand out so I kept the embellishments to a minimum.

Scraplift Sunday Right Now

Good morning, friends! Wendy here with you today to share with you this weeks new Scraplift Sunday inspiration. This week we are lifting a fun layout from Cassie Jr. You can see it by clicking here. What I love the most about Cassie's layout is the mixed media background and the color gradient she created. I also really like the central focus in the layout, but when it came down to it, I put my focus on the bottom right corner.

Cassie used a triangle cut file to create a stencil. I took the same concept and used the Scattered Hearts cut file. Both are in the Paper Issues shop and are free cut files. I used distress inks in Fossilized Amber, Pine Needles, Prize Ribbon and Stormy Sky. I stitched a border in similar colors (but don't look too closely as all the colors don't match up!). I layered a black heart on top and stamped white hearts to give it more detailed instead of just being plain. I layered papers behind a square photo like Cassie did, added a cluster at the top left of my photo, and included a Happy title, too. My embellishments are gathered from my stash and matched based on their color. You'll see things from Elle's Studio, including the chipboard title, PinkFresh Studio, and Pretty Little Studio. This layout was super fast once I finished the stitching. The stitching took an insane amount of time. But that's okay because I love hand stitching and gives my layouts so much added detail.
