Geeta -
Hope you enjoyed your visit here at PaperTigers and thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment. I paid a visit to your site and have to tell you how impressed I am with your work! I especially love your oil paintings of the Himalayas. I see that you often give workshops to school age children. Please keep in touch with us as I would love to blog about one of your events.

This book sounds like it would make for a wonderful addition to any collection. It reminds me of My Village: Rhymes from Around the World, collected by Danielle Wright.

Thank you for bringing this book to my attention, Marj. I can't wait to get a copy. It sounds so beautiful... When I read Erlbruch's "The Big Question" (which won the BologanaRaggazzi Award in 2004), I was completely mesmerized by its poetic, simple and quite deep approach to the big question of why we are here, in this world. At the time I bought a dozen copies, to give as gifts---it is that good---and to this day, whenever I read it, I'm left with the impression that my horizon has broadened.

We read Say's Tea with Milk last night and my two were captivated - they got quite annoyed with me when I interrupted the reading to talk about when it was set!

It's great to hear other voices of approbation.

While I'm not familiar with Mortenson's work, I wholeheartedly support your nomination of Allen Say -- a genius, in my mind! I've been a big fan for decades.

Good choices! Of course, I'm completely biased as I love Allen Say's books. I recently read Emma's Rug to my daughter, as I remembered reading it before and finding it intriguing. Again, it left a distinct impression on my daughter as well. I've read Three Cups of Tea and Mortenson is also a good candidate for nomination.

Jama, it's always great to find someone shares my love of elephants. All the children's books in this house which feature an elephant belong to me and my children realise how privileged they are to be allowed to read them ;-)

Sally, I agree - translating verse is a very special art; and I suppose one of the first decisions to be made is what, if any, rhyme and meter to follow in response to the original...
