What I really like about this murtabak is the sweetness you get from the onions…. They’ve really done a good job with drawing out the inherent sweetness in the bawang. So you get a nice mix of flavours and textures, the egg, the meat and the chunky onion. Make sure you leave ample time to queue up for this one. Judging from the stall front, they never have enough murtabaks on keep out for long!

They also sell murtabak jala, but the real star is the normal murtabak!

This ayam percik is slightly different from your run of the mill ones as the percik here is white in colour. Meaning it’s santan based, I think. This particular ayam percik is very well done and the percik is just yummy. The chicken itself is very well marinated, not dry and is complimented very nicely by the white percik which I tried. The white percik is a creamy, tangy, spicy, coupled with a wonderful sweetness from the cream and has a hint of santan. Though the percik is a bit runny, I reckon it would go quite well with rice.

This stall also sells the normal ayam percik.

When you open the packet, you’re hit with this strong smell of pandan, they wrap eveything in pandan leaf! At first look this putu piring is huge. Almost the size of the palm of my hand and it’s quite hefty. You bite into and you will find it quite dense, memang padat and it’s got lots of gula melaka. No skimping here. The tepung is slightly salty so you get this nice fragrant dense salty sweet coconuty mix in your mouth. Nice.

Getting a taste of this putu piring is quite challenging, coz there’s always a line!

Like every other Ramadhan Thursday, we present to you our must try Param Manis for Week 4 of Ramadhan,

Onde – Onde

Onde-onde, assorted Kuihs. 3 for RM1
It’s been a while since I last had some good ol fashion Onde-onde, and
since Thursday is Param Manis, I’ve decided to give this stall’s
Onde-onde a go. Theirs look interesting, not sure whether the bright
green color, the size or the amount of coconut on it. But later I
found out it actually tastes good, with not too much gula melaka
inside, just nice mixture of all the ingredients. This stall also
sells other kuihs like Tepung Pelita, Seri Muka, Agar-agar, Bengkang,
etc all for RM1 for 3.

Mulanya saya ingatkan bunting kedai ini tertulis nama pemiliknya- Taha
Katira, tetapi apabila ditanyakan maksudnya, pemilik kedai menjelaskan
ianya sejenis campuran air yang pada masa dahulunya terkenal
dikalangan pedagang Arab yang pernah datang ke Tanah Melayu sebagai
minuman tenaga ala 100 Plus. Katira datang daripada getah pokoknya dan
dibawa masuk melalui Singapura. Ramuannya dicampur selasih, susu,
sirap dan teh air mawar dihidangkan sejuk. Saya telah membeli dua
bungkus dan sebaik sahaja meminumnya untuk berbuka puasa saya terus
rasa segar dan ‘recharged’. Jika anda mahu mencubanya, tambah sedikit
ais atau air sejuk kerana ianya sedikit manis. Sedap!
