Looking Back, Moving Forward

While I may get my mail delivered somewhere else these days, I think in my heart there will always be a part of me that calls Astoria, Queens my home. I was born and raised there. I spent the bulk of my life playing, working and going to school there. I still have some of my closest friends and family there too. So the other day I was passing through Astoria on my way back to Long Island. I turned off Broadway onto 43rd Street, my old block. Passed by my old building (where my mom and dad sti Continue reading »

K for Kommitment

Okay, okay, ya got me. "K" is definitely NOT for commitment. But you have to admit, I got your attention. I absolutely can not believe how much time has passed since my last post. It is definitely true what they say. Time flies...whether you are having fun or not, apparently. For me, the past four or five weeks have brought on some very hectic times. Both personally and professionally. And while I am still hanging in there where it comes to being smart and making the right choices, Continue reading »

"Getting It"

Well I am happy to say that I feel like I am finally starting to "get it" again. It took me a couple of weeks, and I have to admit that that worried and surprised me a little bit. But finally I feel like I am back on track again, and I finally had the kind of week that I feel like I was supposed to be having all along. Things just seemed to fall into place, as I have been hoping they would for awhile now. After what seemed like an endless amount of personal hurdles and Continue reading »

Holidays and Milestones

Okay, first and foremost, before I even get started here. Did everyone survive the blizzard of 2012? ha ha ha ha. Sorry to anyone who may have actually gotten some snow in their area last weekend, by the way. I just thought it was funny here in NYC that with all of the predictions we heard...6 inches, 8 inches, 12 inches....we got a dusting at best. And let me tell you, nooooo one was happier about that fact than me. My daughter Meghan was upset, as her head was filled with thoughts of s Continue reading »

Back in the groove

I love a really cool good samaritan story. Especially when they happen to me. Stories about people helping other people out for no reason are rare these days. Definitely too few and far between. And while it really doesn't have much to do with working out or weight loss, it is definitely appreciated and worth sharing, in my own humble opinion. Anyway, I was on my way back from the doctor with Meghan the other day, cruising down the LIE on our way home...obeying the speed limit at al Continue reading »

One Week Down...

Okay, here we go. My first week getting back on track is officially in the books. I think a lot of people will tell you that the hardest part of making any kind of change in your lifestyle, whether it is a big change or just a little one, is getting started. At least that is what I have found out for myself over the years, anyway. Well the good thing for me is that I finally did stop making excuses and get started. It really wasn't all that hard either. AND, my very first weigh in this m Continue reading »

Back to Basics

The Allman Brothers have always been one of my favorite bands. If you know them and like em, awesome. If you don't know em, give them a listen. Great southern rock band. One of the greatest of all time if you ask me. I highly recommend them. Anyway, they have a song called "Back Where it All Begins" that has always struck a chord with me, so to speak. It's about getting yourself back to the place where you started, no matter what happens. Getting back to square one. Maybe it's also Continue reading »

New Year, Fresh Start

I am a big Tommy Lee Jones fan. Just thought you might like to know that. Lol. In the movie Cobb, TLJ plays legendary baseball player Ty Cobb. It is a good movie. Not great, but good. However it does have a line in it that I have always liked. At a reunion of his old baseball teammates, a now old Ty Cobb, much closer to the end of his life than the beginning, tells a down-on-his- luck friend, "Mickey, you have got to put forth a better effort." SImple and to the point.
Every Picture Tells a Story

For some odd reason, I have always considered myself a "picture" person. Although I have always gone out of my way to avoid being IN them. It is my belief that I have the perfect face for being BEHIND the camera....not in front of it...lol. But when it comes to TAKING pictures......then taking the time to frame and hang em....I am definitely your guy. Just always enjoyed doing that kind of stuff (you have SO got to experience my man cave one day).
Focusing on the Physical

I can't speak for everyone out there of course, but as far as I go personally, it seems like I end up working harder on my "day off" than I would if I just went to work. Today was definitely one of those days. It all started in the wee hours of the morning, somewhere around 3:30am or so. I had just crawled through the door after making my way home from job number two. I was tired for sure......and where most people would have just went&nb Continue reading »
