The good thing about having our house in Southampton is that in the summer all the grandchildren come to visit. It is so much fun. Each time they come, another wonderful conversation or activity makes the day special.

As my husband and I enter our golden years, we have discovered simplicity and Costco. As a matter of fact, when my hu Continue reading »

Not I, Grammy of five!

I have tight hips from biking, teaching spin, playing tennis and working out when I am not working with clients and writing. Through the years, I’ve done maybe three yoga classes. One was when I took my daughter to a maternity yoga class and I fell off the block.
PJ Party Time

Since Molly was born 4 years ago, we have had only one sleepover. I have been longing for a sleepover for years. My dream came true this past Memorial Day weekend.

I jumped up out of my bed when I heard, “BEA BEA, BEA BEA,” loud and clear from the floor below. My husband looked at me and said, “Look at you; you are beaming with the hugest smile at 5:15 am.” I jumped out of bed to go be with my Molly and her little sister. Continue reading »

Did you ever think about how you cherish something that was made for you by your children? I still have the cards and special art projects my kids made me from 25 years ago in a safe place to one day share with my grandchildren.

I remember as a child going to the card store to pick out a card for my mom and standing there with strangers laughing and sharing the cards, thinking I found the perfect one. Low and behold one or both of my sisters ended up picking out the exact same Continue reading »

The Lying Game

Did you ever wonder how to teach your children not to lie? I had such a chuckle when my daughter Amy relayed the following story to me.

My 4-year-old granddaughter Molly asked her mother Amy for snack late in the day. Amy asked her if she had a one earlier. Molly said, “No, mommy.” “Ok then you can have a snack,” Amy said and as she opened the garbage to throw out something. However, she noticed the remains of a snack eaten earlier in the day. Amy proce Continue reading »

Molly will be turning 4 years old in nine days! Every phone call to my daughter Amy now is, "Please tell me a Molly story before I hang up." And she usually has the story of the day to tell me. After I hang up, I immediately call my mom, Molly's great grandma, in Florida and tell her the story so she can share with the three other women she dines with on most evenings. If they do not get together for some reason, one of them will call my mom and say, “Do you have any Molly sto Continue reading »

In the hustle and bustle of the fast paced world in which we live, I can’t help but notice the anxiety and stress that surrounds us. It could be because everyone, young, old and in between, is working crazy hours, lives with and internalizes a fear they might lose their job (real or not), and is stressed by the extra demands, cutbacks on staff, long hours, undefined roles, pay cuts and lack of a bonus in 2012.
Grandma Power 2012

Back in my day, “grandma power” meant whatever grandma said was OK, because it was grandma. Grandma was the one who could spoil your children, the person to vent to, the queen of sleepovers and the cook behind the best homemade food. Grandma had the power to love and takeover when mom was tired or had to be somewhere.

Many of my friends do not what to be called grandma because they feel that it means they are getting old. They do not want to babysit or feel obligated to. T Continue reading »

Since my husband and I got married five years ago, we started a tradition for all of our children and grandchildren. We recognized that with the blending of our families we had to mindful of the four sets of parents and grandparents and extended families. My husband and I did not want our kids to stress over choosing where they were going for Thanksgiving. We celebrate with all the kids the first date everyone agrees on after the actual holiday for our Annual Turkey Bowl.
Thankful for Humor

Molly played a trick right before Halloween that had us all laughing, especially me. I had been sitting in traffic on a rainy Thursday night that took me three hours to get home from New York City. While I was speaking with my son-in-law during my drive, he suddenly stopped talking in a fit of hysterical laughter. Once he gained control, my son-in-law proceeded to tell me that 3-year-old Molly went up to her baby sister’s room, realizing the baby monitor connection would reach her dad w Continue reading »
