With this post I'm checking off for this year. I had in mind to publish few more posts, but preparations for a newborn occupies me the most. We can't wait to meet the sweet little one, and the baby is eager to meet us, too. I'm off to hospital tomorrow where I'll be celebrating New Year's Eve.
Full of faith that everything is going to be just fine, I'm wishing you happy holidays, lots of smile and sparkles in your eyes...

Željno iščekujemo malog cvrčka, a i on žuri nas da upozna...tako da sutra odlazim u bolnicu gdje ću dočekati i Novu 2012.godinu. Sa vjerom da će sve biti u najboljem redu, želim svima lijepe praznike, osmjehe i iskre u očima...}

It's been a while since I promised before and after photos of my childhood home, and now it's the time to show you photos of kitchen/dining area. Changes are always welcome, especially in case when nothing has been changed for decades. I wish I could keep the old wooden furniture, but it wasn't an option as I live in a small apartment. All I can is to keep visualising how the table and chairs would look in crisp white, and commode in bright pink or some other intense colour.

{Mada sam poodavno obećala fotkice moje kuće iz djetinjstva, tek sada su došle na red. I to slikice kuhinje i trpezarijskog dijela. Možete i da uporedite kako je bilo nekad, a kako je sad. Promjene su uvijek dobrodošle, posebno u slučaju kada ništa nije mijenjano decenijama, pa vremenom gubi sjaj i draž. Voljela bih da sam mogla zadržati stari namještaj od drveta i preurediti ga po želji, ali to prosto nije bilo moguće jer živim u malom stanu. A zamišljam sto i stolice lakirane u bijelo a vitrinu i dugačku komodu vjerovatno u neku intenzivnu boju. Roze? uh, to bi izgledalo fantastično!}

Available space is used much better now when some walls are demolished and definitely looks bigger and airy. Colour palette is soothing and combination of "warm" and "cool" tones creates the pleasant atmosphere all year long. Walls in dining area are light grey while the kitchen walls are painted in subtle green shade.

{Raspoloživi prostor je sada mnogo bolje iskorišćen uklanjanjem pregradnih zidova, te ujedno izgleda i jeste prostranije. Prirodna paleta boja uz kombinovanje "toplih" i "hladnih" tonova stvara prijatan ambijent tokom cijele godine. Zidovi trpezarije su obojeni svijetlo sivo, dok je u kuhinji nježna zelena.}

When a room speaks to me at a very first glance - it's the real thing! It's obvious that my taste varies from simple interiors to a spaces full of details where you need at least few hours to discover all the beauty. What connects all of the spaces I love is the noticeably personal, casual feel full of character. This living room feels the same. Beautifully cluttered is the hallway too, and the nursery is so playful and interesting. This is the place I could live in!

This charming little apartment has only 28 square meters (300 square feet) yet cleverly separated bedroom area with a closet. One has to give up a lot of things living in a small space, but not a stylish sophistication, if the functionality comes first. The usual advice for small spaces is to use light and cold colour palette, reflecting surfaces and just necessary furniture which I don't agree with. This studio shows how warm colour palette and rustic details bring the coziness and welcoming atmosfere even in a tiny space.

My favourite parts are non-existance of TV and exposed brick walls...as well as the overall style impression

{Ovaj presladak stančić ima samo 28 kvadratnih metara, a uspješno izdvojen spavaći dio sa garderobom. Sigurno je da se čovjek mora odreći mnogo toga u tako malom prostoru, ali ne i stilske sofisticiranosti...sve dok je ona ipak podređena funkcionalnosti. Uobičajen savjet je za male prostore birati svijetle boje hladnog spektra, reflektujuće površine i samo neophodan namještaj, ali ja se ne slažem sa tim. Ovaj primjer pokazuje koliko tople boje i rustični detalji doprinose većem osjećaju udobnosti i prijatnosti, čak i u minijaturnom prostoru.

Posebno mi se sviđa nepostojanje tv-a i gola cigla na po jednom zidu u prostorijama, ali i kompletan stilski utisak.}

When Martina wrote me asking about some scandinavian decorating ideas for her home, I was smitten. It seems like it's the easiest to decorate in Scandinavian style - simple lines, lots of white and just a few details - but it's as easy to create non-artistic place without personality, which nobody wants. It was very interesting to virtualy play around with shapes, textures and colours as accents. The main palette is mostly white with grey and black for modern, sophisticated and timeless space. The accent colours can be almost any - red, teal, warm yellow and plum are just some of my suggestions.

I played juxtaposing only square and circle shapes, but the versatility is brought also by a different textures of metal, wood, plastic, fabric and leather. Throughout the apartment I suggest details in different colors, while the bedroom is the only monochromatic room.

{Kada mi se Martina obratila za ideju kako da uredi prostor u skandinavskom stilu, sa oduševljenjem sam prihvatila. Naizgled, najlakše je urediti stan u tom stilu - jednostavnih linija, sa puno bjeline i ne previše detalja...ipak, postoji bojazan da se stvori bezličan prostor. Bilo mi je vrlo zanimljivo poigrati se oblicima, teksturama a i bojama koje sam dodala kao akcente, dok je osnovna paleta bijelo - sivo - crno u razmjeri 70-20-10. U prostoru gdje je takva osnovna paleta boja kao akcente je moguće koristiti razne boje po želji - crvena, petrolej plava, rumeno žuta i boja šljive...to su neki od mojih predloga. U predlozima sam korisitla kontrast pravougaonih i kružnih oblika, a i različitim tekturama (štof, metal, drvo, pvc) iako u istoj boji je unešena raznovrsnost. Kroz cijeli stan dodatna igra je postignuta detaljima u boji, dok potpuno monohromnu paletu predlažem samo za spavaću sobu.}

With smart planning and multifunctional furniture the solution is very possible and attractive. This room looks elegant, modern and airy thanks to simple lines, reflective materials, light colour palette with fresh coloured accents and smart lightning.
Sliding doors are hiding plenty of storage space for all things needed without feeling overwhelming thanks to white colour, use of glass and decorative display with spot lights. The rest of the room has enough space for sofa bed and functional table. The key is to have light furniture, with rollers or easy to move and transform.

Duž najveće zidne površine krije se iznenađujuće mnogo prostora za uredno skladištenje stvari potrebnih za rad, jelo, druženje i spavanje, ali ne djeluje opterećujuće zbog upotrebe bijele boje, kliznih vrata, stakla i dekorativnih osvjetljenih prozorčića. monday home tour... family home for 6 / dom za šestočlanu porodicu

When the interior designer and a painter/photographer work and live together the result is the cozy, charming, functional and highly aesthetical home although they have four children. You'll admit it's hard (almost impossible to me) to keep your home well decorated when the little curious hands are all over, unless we forbidd them everything which we don't want. It's a challenge to create decorated but child-friendly home. I suggest to have a small area for accessorizing and teach the kids not to touch it, while the rest of the home is all for them. And don't forget the walls, think vertically.
The layout of this house was planned on the basis of family activities and kids needs. Ground floor open space is practical, allowing free comunication within different areas.
A key aspect was to provide areas for storing children's toys. A shelf with baskets in the living room (first photo) offers plenty of storage space. There are no carpets but small area rugs creating interest while easy to maintain. Light color palette and plenty of natural light create the feeling of spaciousness, and accents in pink and mustard bring life into neutral foundation.

I ne zaboravite zidove - obogatite ih policama van dječijeg domašaja i dekorišite ih po želji. Ovdje je cjelokupan plan podređen djeci i svakodnevnim aktivnostima, kako dom i treba da bude. Otvoren prostor u prizemlju omogućava nesmetano kretanje i komunikaciju tokom dana, sa suptilno izdvojenim cjelinama, dok su na spratu smještene spavaće sobe.
Uvijek glavno pitanje u porodičnom domu je - kako na dekorativan a praktičan način obezbjediti mjesto za dječije igračke u dnevnom boravku? Na prvoj slici se vidi polica sa pletenim korpama koja uredno krije sve dječije drangulije. Sigurno ste primjetili da nema velikih tepiha, već da je prostorom raspoređeno više malih što je mnogo lakše za održavanje a i doprinosi zanimljivosti. Svijetle boje uz mnogo prirodne svjetlosti čine ovaj dom još prostranijim, dok akcenti roze i senf žute unose živost u neutralnu osnovu.}

My wish came true right on my birthday yesterday, when I discovered DO!TS - magazine about handmade crafts. Authors of this fabulous magazine are two incredible creative ladies, Ivona and Marina who love all sorts of dots. Don't hesitate to flip through all the amazing tutorials and creative ideas...I've already made some of them
{U moru stranih online časopisa, toliko sam željela da se pojavi neki i domaće, odnosno regionalne produkcije, čisto iz gušta i ponosa jer ima toliko toga da se kaže i pokaže... eto,koliko sam željela, tako mi se želja ispunila i to baš na rođendan. Sometimes it's not easy to find a photo of a space that speaks to you. I'm moody today, like a cloudy and rainy day outside. Nobody shouldn't be grumpy about that, especially since I could enjoy beautiful, warm and sunny weather until today. Anyway, it was hard for me to find the space I REALLY LOVE right now, where my reaction should be WOW - I want to live here! In the sea of inspirational files I decided on this space found on ApartmentTherapy RoomForColor2011 contest because it totally reflects what I love in interiors

{Nekad mi nije nimalo jednostavno naći prostor koji bi me oduševio, i tako je danas. Neraspoložena sam, nekako mračna, više apatična...nešto kao ovaj oblačan i kišni dan. To stvarno i nije neki razlog za neraspoloženje, posebno što je sve do danas vrijeme bilo i više nego predivno. Tek danas bi se reklo da je novembar. After loong break due to family obligations and finishing preparations for a baby, I hope to be regular on posting again. And what's better to start with but the sunny apartment with striking orange kitchen? (I would be very happy in it)

{eto, nakon ponovne pauze, nadam se da se vraćam regularnom pisanju. nadam se, jer mi ovo pričinjava veliko zadovoljstvo i žao mi je kada ne mogu da postignem pored porodičnih obaveza i posla...a uskoro stiže i novi član porodice :)

inspiring kid's rooms

I'm all about kid's rooms now. How strange, right? :) It's almost the only thing I see everywhere on the internet. While preparing this post with inspiring rooms for kids, I found a few showing exactly what I wanted for my 3 year old boy's room he will be sharing soon with his baby brother or sister. I've already wrote about us(parents) moving into living room, freeing up the space for him - to have his own kingdom... We didn't do that yet, but now's definitely the time!

The layout will be like this (photo below). Our room is very similar, except the window on the right. Love the soothing color combination here, although I want more colorful space. Perfect example of what B and I want to create is the first photo above :)

Narrow shelves for displaying books will be mounted on unused wall space below the window

Walls will be grey definitely, and the baby corner will have trees and owls. It's a good choice for boys and girls

Picture or drawing gallery is always the right choice...and not just in kid's room. For start, I'm creating prints for picture gallery hoping to be replaced over time by kid's art work

Grey walls I want and colorful circles on the rug - sounds like the perfect combination. I'll create a designboard for the room, so it's easier to envision the result.

Paper, plastic bags, coffee filters or anything crossing your mind can be used for creating a modern and original light fixture. Great idea for do-it-yourself project whether you need a pendant or table lamp to create a statement in your home. Rounded, fluffy, interesting pendants (or any home decor items) are irresistible to me. Allison Patrick @ Zipper8Lighting shop on etsy creates lovely light fixtures out of round paper lanterns.

I would definitely enjoy this romantic, subtle glow. First pic is regular paper, the second is book paper, third lamp is made out of black and white plastic bags (a good use of them) and this lamp above is made of coffee filters.
Don't know where Kara Paslay got inspired, but she made this fabulous light out of cheap paper lantern, coffee filters and lots of patience. This project inspired http://www.parlourhomeblog.com/2010/10/are-you-kidding-me.html to make one much bigger and SO incredibly fluffy.
Should I give it a try? Thing is - I have a paper lantern of 60cm in diameter (never installed it) and with this enhancement it'll be even bigger. hm, I think it will stay the way it is, after all

Several months ago Aida asked me to help her choose furnishings and colors for her home in renovation as well as how to make better use of available space. She wanted airy, cozy and welcoming space with lots of wooden details. The ceiling is very low (2.2m) so intense or dark colors were not an option. Light and natural colors with proper lightning could make the space feel higher and more comfy.
Foyer leads into all parts of the home. On the left there's bathroom and utility room, on the right is home office/guest room and straight forward leads into open space - kitchen / dining and living room. Master bedroom is right next to the kitchen. The space is not very big, approximately 70m2 or 750 square ft, and the smallest room (considering its purpose) is the living room. Still, there's enough room for essentials. note: All furniture should be multifunctional!

Aida wanted lots of wood incorporated in the home, so I suggested different wood colors and finishes to keep things interesting. Wall color mainly should be off-white - a few shades darker than ceiling to make it visually higher. In the foyer I suggest grey stone flooring and intense wall color for big impact first thing you enter Aida's home - especially because there's no natural light. Solution is embedded ceiling spotlight with dimmers and one white floor lamp close to a big mirror. The same flooring continues in the bathroom and utility room. The rest of the home has hardfloor installed, including the kitchen. note: it's not very common option in this part of Europe, but I'll do my best to show people the advantage of wooden floor in the kitchen and bathroom

I've prepared two options for dining room - light and dark version. It's the question of personal taste which one she chose. In both ways walls are off-white, white sheer panel with floral drapes are installed on windows and details are green and white.

In the living room sofa should be sofa-bed, the custom made media station with storage is against the longest wall, comfy but light chair in the reading corner. Floating shelves are installed on the wall and there's room for narrow floor lamp. Above the sofa photo and picture gallery

Today I finally got my copy of Casaviva Serbia mag - September issue. As always - it's full of fabulous, functional and cozy ideas for living as well as useful information about design world, new products, great travel places and cultural events. (btw - that home featured on the cover is stunning. I'll blog about it these days)

Previous post was about introducing you to Marko Vuckovic, young designer with big taste and talent. He won the second award on Mixer competition titled "Super-smart everyday objects" in May 2011 with The Saturn watch. First prize went to Vukasin Vukobratovic with his already famous Traffic jam mantel, and the third award won Ivan Markov and his Coffee Table 100.

What I didn't know until read in the magazine today that all of three awarded super smart everyday objects will be available soon in Kare shop as they were organizing the competition together with Mixer festival. That's such a great news, for designers and us - consumers. I'll do my best to put my hands on The Saturn watch as soon as possible :)

focus on designers: Marko Vuckovic

He is extremely talented and passionate industrial designer from small town Bor in Serbia, graduated at Polytechnic University of Belgrade where I studied graphic design. I mentioned him before, but now I found his website and I'm blown away with his ideas in product design. Marko has a great visual taste and he won several awards in that field. His work was also published in design orientated magazines worldwide.
Three products he designed that I would love to have in my home:

Hello there...I'm back to blogging, rested, almost full of energy (I'll explain why a bit later) and happy. As I disappeared without any explanation, I bet some of you wonder what happened? well...I got pregnant. First trimester I was sleepy and everything bothered me and I just wasn't able to sit in front of computer more than 5 minutes, which is not enough to turn it on and write something. I didn't even checked my emails.

So, I enjoyed this summer with my family and friends...lot's of family gatherings, laughs, dinner parties in the garden of my father's home...but I found time to go to beach as well, mostly early in the morning. We also celebrated our son's third birthday few days ago! He was SO happy having his own party with friends he loves, cake and candles, balloons, birthday songs and of course - presents. It was such a great party, and I am proud of it. My hands were busy making candies and snacks, tissue pom-poms and little sailing boats as a decoration. Unfortunately I have no photos yet...
