“We all go through the same things, the same insecurities, the same doubts.”, confessed Taylor Swift. It’s an amazing phenomena where the social media could be such a powerful force on shaping what’s ideal and what’s not in the society. Although the term of “branding” is commonly used to present yourself in the virtual world, unconsciously people are managing to “compete” against each other on creating a “perfect” life. This imagination of a “perfect life” sometimes are misinterpreted by others to make themselves feel doubtful, insecure, and horrible about themselves on not having the same “perfect” life. I myself have had those moments, moments where I’ve fell in the hole of insecurities about myself just after scrolling through a number of Instagram accounts that pretty much shows a “perfect” feed. This virtual reality, is a social construction.

But then I come back to myself. Social construction is subjective, it’s just something made up. Is the standard of being pretty always have to have perfectly done eyebrows and extravagant lashes just because most girls on social media post selfies showing those figures and getting many likes? Is the standard of being cool always have to be taking shots at the most hippest area with a simple & monochromatic attire and in a low saturation tone then getting many likes? There were never standards, those have always been a choice.

I highly believe that there has always been an essence of my life that’s just very valuable that other people don’t have. And so it goes the other way, where well there are valuable points about other people’s life that I just don’t have. That’s just how the world goes. So feeling doubtful and insecure about oneself is such a waste of time and energy. Why feel bad about your flaws while you can embrace the greatness of yourself?? Instead, turn those “perfect” constructed reality into an inspiration & a motivation for ourselves, that that reality is possible to aim. My key is simply by being grateful, by being confident with my own self.

Being confident include all parts of yourself, inner & outer. Despite all my physical flaws and amateur skills, I do feel confident on what I have both earned and reached for myself. Physical conditions have always been a big issue among women specifically, where we just don’t feel enough about ourselves. Even Taylor Swift has her own insecurities! But I do believe that most part of our physical conditions are gifted. It is something earned, a gift from our creators. Feeling bad about it means that we are being arrogant and ungrateful as a human being. Though, what we can do is taking great care of it, sustaining it in great shape.

To me, the most basic beauty of a woman relies in her private area, on how she can guard it, respect it, and keeping it healthy. In this time being, women are no longer hiding in the shadows nor are the shadows hiding them. I have come across so many inspiring yet down to earth profiles who are passionately living their lives; actively working through their passion or simply becoming an awesome mom. Because that is what will lead anyone to present its originality. We all shine in many ways, in our own ways. It has never been about presenting all the ups of life, but it has always been about presenting originality.

Originality refers to natural, where things are presented just the way it is from its basics, with no effortful touches. For a daily condition, I like to keep things naturally basic, especially for my skin. I do believe that an outer performa depends much on its base and finishing, so that is why I take in-depth considerations on choosing the perfect product for those 2 elements. Let nature do its wonder, may humans remain as silhouettes.

I never assume wearing black for a holiday summer look as a sin. The true core of a summer holiday lies in how humans wanted to seek for a new atmosphere, objecting refreshing views. So perhaps, it is descent enough to let these objects become a spotlight of their own, stealing hearts, and indulging souls. Then it would be respectful enough for us humans, to tune down our egos by becoming vivid silhouettes.

Though another source of inspiration --who eventually is the god/goddess of fashion—who never fails to attempt black, pretty much inspired me. It is no other than Chanel. I remembered their summer swimwear collection that was merely in a whole tone of monochrome. But there was never a wonder why the tone was chosen, because it was packed so peculiarly alluring that people was somehow hypnotized by it. It brings back women’s classy touch of summer wear, bringing out the lady within of every woman.

The idea of the look was simplicity, in a classy touch. The classiness of this laced bralet top reminded me back to the 18^th century where lace became a symbol of prestige and wealth, it was among the most valued of a household’s possessions. So the theory would be, the older the lace is, the more versatile & genuine it becomes. Not to mention, this laced bralet turns out to be a legacy from my mom! In its more than 20years of age, it is still in the best of shape. There are 3 combinations of different types of lace & crochets that are consisted in this bralet, where each type is structured to fit in the silhouettes of the body.

Since comfort is also a concern, a pair of culottes would be the best fit. They could be a bit tricky though! Its simplicity could be reputed for a lazy day of casualness. But its “strata” could be lifted up into a more semi-casual or even a formal look if paired & modified in the right dose! This Beste Project culotte has an accent of a tied bow as an extra accessory and also adding more volume to the look. Since it is paired with a bralet top that reveals the middle part of the body, you might want to avoid pairing it with something else that is also body-fit. So the additional volume & loose-fit figure of the cullotte is totally a life savior by being a (good) distraction to avoid looking too appealing.

I have always been in love with pointed heels. It elevates the beauty of your feet to 10 levels high! It makes it (look) longer and also adds a more elegant touch. The best option would be the simplest pair, so you wouldn’t want to modify pointed heels too much. A pair in monochrome tone & some extra straps would do the magic. Lastly, by not ruining this whole silhouette idea, an additional touch of accessory in a neutral tone would be perfect to close the deal! Since it’s all summer and you want to get this whole tanned appeal, I guess preparing the accessories that are already in a tanned tone is a smart move. Rather than choosing nude tones (that would make you dead flat, & that’s not tan), it would be more of a whine red & caramel mixture.

DIY Project: Lego Modified Keychain

Ever adored those collectable lego figured keychains but couldn’t stand the price? Well in this case we do have the same perks. But to end this anxiety, I figured out a (hopefully) efficacious 2-3 steps hack that would only owe you 1/3 of the original price and with an additional little twist to it!

Instead of buying a direct lego figure keychain, I guess I wanted to count on my luck by getting the mysterious lego minifigures instead! But this hacked version won’t be just like how it is, because I added my very own twist to it, by adding some patterned mini ropes.

So apparently I got Mr. Green Goblin! My luck was pretty peculiar… I guess it would be fun to make it look more grunge, so I chose ropes with patterns & color that could create the vibe.

All you need are;

- Your luck-chosen Lego Minifigure

- 2 small rings

- 1 big keychain ring

- Crafty ropes

In this case, I didn’t buy any new materials. Instead, I’ve used some leftovers for the ropes and from my unused necklaces for the rings. You should be tricky on this! But if you apparently couldn’t find anything at home, you could go to some nearest craft shop (In Jakarta, you could go to Mayestik) and it would only cost you a cent or two.

When they say that “A great invention starts from the bottom”, well they do know what they’re talking about because the key to this hack is literally located at the feet of the minifigure!

The basic hack is to insert both mini rings on each hole at each foot of the minifigure, then insert the big keychain ring to the 2 mini rings. Technically, you’re done! Haha

But as I say, I wanted to add an extra twist to it. So, use the mini rings to pin through the ropes to make it hang. Be wild to use your creativity on this!

And now, you got your very own lego minifigure keychain, at a friendly price and a touch of originality!

Paisley on the go

Another piece from Bangladesh! I never thought that cropped tops could turn out so genuinely alluring in a very elegant manner.

The gold paisley details created a classic touch to the top and is the part that i loved the most.

It somehow is an optical illusion; when you see it from a distance, it looks just like polkadots and gold linings. But when you come closer --this is where the magic happens-- it turns out to be paisleys!

I wanted the top to stand out on its own, so in that way i tuned down everything that goes along with this look; a grey-gold-blue tone.

India is believed to be famous for its Saris and long skirts to go along with it, but this time i wanted to create a more "urban" look. Therefore, a pair of grey trousers perfectly did all the trick.

Old Posh-Boy

I was inspired by this old posh-boy European look, in a more lady-like version of course.

I guess today's clickest piece -- Culottes -- became a great substitution for any bottoms.

It has become a wander where i've been adoring European vibes lately. Its classic culture and so-fairytale-like atmosphere moved my heart.

Speaking of culottes, you do recognize that it was taken back in as today's latest trend from its original scheme back in the 70s, i suppose. Ask your mom, i'm sure that they have some special old memories of culottes.

But i do find it VERY comforting, it lets my legs "breathe".

I usually find them in black, while i was actually seeking for the white ones. It just radiates a more minimalist look and could actually leverage anything simple into something more alluring.

So i wasn't playing a contrast color combination. Just suiting it with something nearly close by: yellow.

I'm in the spring vibe lately, so i decided to set aside the gloomy colors and let the bright ones shine. Not really in the color clash also though, just wanted to create a calming fresh look, for a new upcoming tomorrow :)

This beautiful piece turned out to be from Bangladesh!

I've been falling for Indian pieces for such a time. Their magnificent colors & seams seemed beyond wonder.

The blue line accent wasn't a big breakout, but it did take a big part on making the skirt look more beautiful! Always loved how 2 very contrast colors meet, creating more "life" to the piece :)

The small flower patterns was a good start to begin the new season of Spring!

I'm sure that every girl has a princess side within them. I myself always kept that inside me.

I've always adored long midi flare skirts, where i could swing and wing with it, creating a flowy-like princess effect. Or i could just stay still, waiting for the wind to air, letting it sweep my skirt.

I guess Disney did a great job on constructing dreamy fairy tales in every girls' minds... But i don't think that's a crime. It eventually is beautiful, and i thank Disney for that. Because after all, i will always be a Disney girl.

If you wonder where i got this grunge rucksack, well you might be asking the wrong thing.

Because apparently.... i made it!

I've been a contributor for CosmoGirl Indonesia Magazine on its February 2015 issue, for its DIY page article.

There were 2 DIY pieces that i made where this grunge rucksack was one of it. If you happen to miss the issue, don't worry, i'll present them both to you right here!

D.I.Y Grunge Rucksack

-Translated version-

What you'll need

1. Leather fabric

2. Big white rope

3. Patterned small ropes

4. Bag rings

5. A variety of beads

6. Tassel

7. Sewing equipments

8. Scissor

9. Glue

10. Bobby pins

11. Measurement

Step 1

Cut the fabric in a rectangle shape.
Adjust the size based on your wants. As exampled: 70 cm x 47cm

Step 2

Fold the top part towards the inner part of the fabric, approximately 3cm.
But adjust the size of the folding with your rope, make sure that it isn't too dense nor too wide

Step 3

Sew it! For a stronger & neater result, use a sewing machine. But if you don’t have the equipment, you can sew it manually. Use bobby pins to make marks

Step 4

Fold the fabric by meeting the right and left sides. For the further steps, make sure that the fabric is in a reverse condition (the inside part of the fabric facing outside)

Step 5

Make line marks to mark the sewing path, use bobby pins for extra help. Always leave an approximately 1,5cm from the sides of the fabric until the sewing path.

Step 6

Then sew the middle part (the meeting point of 2 fabric sides) and also the bottom part of the fabric. To make it strong, I suggest you to double sew it.

For the middle part, only sew it from the bottom part until the top sewing border of the rope folding (don’t sew until the very top, just until the border).

Step 7

Turn over the fabric. Then sew both of the corner edges of the bag horizontally. The distance should be adjusted with the size of the bag ring.

Step 8

Make a hole in it. The size should be as big as the bag ring. Then glue the bag ring into it.

Step 9

Then put in the rope through the bag folding on top. Make sure that the left and right length of the rope is in balance.

Step 10

Put in the rope through each of the ring holes. Then make a dead knot.

Step 11

Accessories time! Use all the beads and patterned small ropes freely & creatively! Beads, patterned small ropes, & tassels can be used as a hanging accessory. Feel free to use your creativity!

The book: DIY Fashion Project

I started working on this book on the mid of 2013, I was in a transition phase back then.

DIY Fahion Project: Basically, this book contents many DIY Fashion projects from us 3; Evita Nuh, June Paski, and me. This book was created with hope that it may become a life savior, to those who at least have the urge to use their hands and mind productively. It is a bit misunderstood when people view fashion as something that is only available for those who could survive in its high-end “game”, where fashion belongs to those who could afford its high costs. Well, we would like to turn that perspective around, make a twist out of it. Who says fashion needs to be expensive? It’s all a matter how you can use god’s gift, our hands and mind, in a creative way. So we believe that this book may become a way out, a guide to all the women out there, to stay confident with their own creations. We are here to proof that the “fashion is expensive” statement is only an illusion. What’s the value of wearing a branded expensive item, where you might have to suffer after that because most of your earnings are spent for it? Wouldn’t you be more proud to wear your very own creation?

Besides that, we’ve also shared some personal stories that we’ve never explicitly written here on the blog. I’ve never been too wide open of my personal life and what I’ve been busy on besides the blogging world. My absence here, is a sign that I’m working on something serious in my daily life. But I just don’t share much of it on the blog don’t i? Well don’t worry, I have written a complete edition of it, in this book. J Since I wrote (and actually finished) this book by the end of 2013, my shared insights are more of my life around my high school phase. As I looked back through the pages, I did realize that I never did stood still throughout my young ages, I was like an ongoing machine. It didn’t even look like what a teenager might do in their age! I will be entering my 20s this October, which means that I am no longer a teenager. It’s scary, but this book became a living proof that I have spent my teenage life, in the right way. This does not mean that I am segmenting my stories to teenagers only, it is widely open to everyone in any age; youths, elders, etc. The values in the stories are things that could always be implemented to anyone.

Therefore, i want to share this to every single one of you, with hope that this book will truly become a life savior in any form.

The Scenius Project #02: Altered Behavior

Camouflaging is an act of securing one's self, an act of safety. If you are a prey, it becomes a life savior, where the predator will not recoginze your existence. That's how it rolls in the animal kingdom.

But here in the world of human beings, what happens if your "existence" becomes unrecognizable to others? Acting safe will keep you alive, but it won't let you grow. An act of camouflage, yet becomes an act of self destruction. It is just another way around.

"'Becoming fearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it, that's the point.'"

The world is somehow created under a universal agreement, that leads people to live in a status-quo. But do ones recognize that it slowly destructs ones identity? Every being is believed to be born with its specialties that differs itself with others. Why not give it a try and break yourself from the shell? If the world demands a red, give it a white. If the world offers a demands, give it a black. If the world demands a status-quo, give it your identity.

It is always possible, to purify one's elf in the middle of the world's madness. If the world gets mad, that doesn't mean others should. Let the world do its own business, while you do yours. You don't need to accept everything that the world offers.

Every action, is contagious. Either ones should refuse it, or get involved it it, it depends. If purifying one's self is an act of positivity, then it should be widely spread, contaminating every being with it.

The society trend has always been a trigger, for ones to "loose" itself. The feeling of doubt in the self, is also a bridge of loosing one's self even more. Just believe, that you are a winning champion, just by being genuine. If others could not see through that, means that those are ones who does not deserve to see your splendour.

4 Indonesia: Dzahab Najwan for UI ArtWar 2014

Dzahab Najwan, interpreted as the Golden Glory, is the dance that we, Komunitas Tari FISIP UI Radha Sarisha performed for Universitas Indonesia ArtWar 2014 competition.

The dance itself was adapted from Melayu's traditional dances with the twist of an islamic touch, that represents the diversity of people.

The dance is far from stagnant moves & low music beats. In fact, it is very dynamic with music that has the power to move the soul. This 12 minute dance was like a movie with its own fluctuations; climax, anti-climax, etc parts.

The costume somehow could remind you of The Game of Thrones, does it? Well yes exclude the head accessories. But the gold, black, and silver combination did a big contribution to the dance, where it just made everything look so beautiful in a genuine and enchanting way.

It was a competition, a competition amongst all the students of University of Indonesia.

Though, i wasn't pretty comfortable with the term of "war" used as the title. The concept of a competition deadens the value of art, objecting the subjective. It has always been a peculiar form of appreciation... Battling with each other in the name of art? Well... Since art is very (VERY) subjective, people will tend to seek for any form of rifts in the system.

But once you're in, you're in. We manage to transform this "war" concept into a powerful form of motivation & spirit. The stage then became a beautiful battle field.

It was precious & priceless enough to perform at our best, and getting much appreciation from the spectators. The gold, the avowals, were just a hint of bonus, of our pouring sweat of hard work.

And i guess it was our turn, to take the triumph.

With great gratitude, we were more than thankful to be appreciated as, 1st winner of the dance branch at UI Artwar 2014 :)

There were more modifications to the dance that we performed for the competition, while the one i am sharing in this video is the very original form of the dance that was performed in our cultural mission in USA.

The Party Sequin

The first thing that glimpsed through my mind at the very moment i laid eyes on this piece was, glamorously fierce.

The geometric structure of the silver sequins was just so fierce in a very bold way. I thought i might as well have a chance to be in 1 of those gangster squads! But if this was a movie plot, it sure does have a very good twist in it. On 1 side, it has an alluring touch from the flower structured sequins, in sweet colors.

This piece is definitely party ready, without needing to pair it up with anything too appealing, because the piece itself could already brag all the attention you need.

So i tried to make a look that was adapted from the character of the piece itself, alluringly fierce.

A flowy long skirt, in a sweet color would do the trick. I guess the gradiated pastel colors of the skirt calmed down the fierce vibe a bit, and made the look more enchanting. The colors itself was the key, that was adapted from the colors of the sequined flowers from the top. So the match didn't take a long jump, and was perfectly linked.

It also added a "fun" touch to the look, from its layered chiffon material. If you do a little circle loop, the skirt will enchantingly flow through the air, in a cute way.

A leather jacket never failed to create a bold look. So to complete the look, the leather jacket knocked it off pretty well. I didn't wear the leather jacket completely as a jacket, where you literally put on the sleeves. But i managed to wear it more as a cape around my shoulders, or as a "hanging accessory" instead. It was just something to complete the look and also a touch to reduce the "power" of the sequined top, that somehow is very "powerful" of taking all the attention. Because sometimes, you might not need that much attention.

Then i do suppose making a little knot to the sequined top would create a minimalist "sexy" touch, without making it look too sexy. Afterall, it is a party look! I didn't want it to look dead, so a little knot on the side would be perfect.

I did forget 1 final touch, accessories! Since the look is already fully packed, a little touch of accessories would do, just like a pair of silver diamond earrings! I did attempt to avoid statement necklaces, because it will make the top area look too heavy, as if you were choking.

As an additional, the diamond earrings could magically create an alluring appeal to your face!

Then a pair of black pumps are always the best getaway to complete any kind of look ;)

And so right now, i'm just about to get you all so jealous after i admit where i got this sequined top.

I magically found it in the mystery but heavenly place called, Pasar Senen :)

There you go. It was one of my best purchases so far!

4 Indonesia: Indonesian Student Folklore Festival

Participated in the Indonesian Student Folklore Festival 2014, back in Mei at the Sapta Pesona, Kementrian Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif building.

Yes this is a bit of a latecomer. I suppose, i forgot to post about this due to the hectic days back in the mid year.

So this festival was held as a pre-showcase, and also a "goodbye" showcase from all the representative groups of Indonesia that will attend International folklore Festivals in many countries. My group, Komunitas Tari FISIP UI Radha Sarisha (that attended folklore festivals in USA, as i have previewed in my previous posts) was one of them, along with many other folklore groups from Indonesia, like the dance group from Paramadina University, Parahyangan University, Kultura Indonesia, and many others.

This festival was held 2 months before our departure to USA on July.

A parade along the main streets of central Jakarta was held before the main showcase.

The dusty grey cement streets was transformed into a mix of beautiful colors, catchy rhythmic music beats, alluring dances, and happy faces :)

A sight you don't get to see everyday.

-The Showcase-

My group brought 2 traditional dances & music, originated from the middle & east coast of Indonesia.

The Gaba-Gaba dance, from Maluku.

This dance was adapted from a local game in Maluku, where Bamboos became a big part of it. It is more of a celebration dance and is danced to express happiness, along with its catchy lyrics (that can be easily sang along) and cheerful moves. As the dance gets to the end, is the part where we play with the bamboos! It is entertaining yet challenging, where our movements have to be in the exact beat of the bamboos & music, or else our feet might get hit by the bamboos! Overall, this dance regularly became people's favorite because of its tricky moves along with the bamboo in the end.

Kembeng Malate, from Madura.

Personally, this is my favorite dance. This dance shows the strong side of Indonesian women. A hard worker, independent, and fearless women. But being all those doesn't mean that women have to leave their own faith as a women. The strength is shown beautifully, from the alluring yet sure moves. It shows the high dignities of women, where quality becomes the major "selling" point, of a woman. I guess it's a form of woman emancipation, that is expressed through a dance, supported by the rhythms of a soul-moving music.

I guess the colors that we brought through our costumes represents Indonesia at its best, in a genuine yet enchanting way. Our nation's original color, red & white, are perfectly paired with a touch of gold & black, creating a seductive yet elegant appeal.

The Unforeseen Gift

“What are your highlights of 2014?”

A general question, but a needed one. Sometimes, it takes a minute or two to take a glimpse back & track down the moments. But in your unconscious realm, all it takes is a second or two to actually know the highlights that mostly matters and highly valued. I have looked down inside myself, and have found that exceptional highlight.

But i was astounded, the moment i knew. These highlights were unbelievably something i never contemplate before, nor something i have ever presume. This puts me down to a mistake, in the early 2014. I didn’t remember myself making any resolutions nor contemplations for the further days in the year. So perhaps, this was 1 cause. But i guess, i wanted life to surprise me, i wanted god to lead my way. Although, this was slightly risky, to have let your life soar in thin air, just being there, waiting for something inspiring to happen. But this doesn’t mean that it was with no effort. “Soaring in thin air” was highly effortful. I believe i was led to doors and possibilities, and for the rest, i was on my own. I was battling for that inspiring, valuable, and divine attainment. With gratefulness, i made it to the top.

I had myself being headed to the doors, doors with its different possibilities. I perceive these doors as gifts from god, that has led me into a way. But somehow, this was not the point of my gratefulness.

As i head into the doors, they were not the moment of attainment, but just an entrance, the beginning of it. So i had to fight, to reach what lies near the exit, the glory. This place was an ongoing rollercoaster, level: supreme. It was a hair-raising, spine-chilling, blood-curdling ride, but that was the “life” of the whole process that i somehow found much enjoyment along it. And THIS became my point of gratefulness to god. God didn’t let me soar in obtuse unrealistic dreams, but it led me into life, into a realistic reality.

“Well dear, the wheel must keep rolling to get life going.”, a self interpreted message that i perceive as a message god tried to tell me, in a very gentle way. I was going strong. I was in a high speed level of pursuing my passions as a bridge of my dreams. I got the experience of a life time, the achievements of a life time, and also what my inner affection desires. I felt as if i was on top of the wheel. This point, was then the moment of fear i felt inside myself. I remembered a statement being uttered by a fellow whom i highly respect of its intelligent mind & perspective; “So, you are really on top of your game sy, you are on top of the wheel.”. This struck me like BAM. I couldn’t stop giving my blessings to god, for a life so beautiful. I was indeed feeling on top both internally (psychologically) and externally (in the case of pursuing my dreams). But.... i was in great horror, wondering how far the wheel might roll and how painful it might get. Because somehow, i know that the wheel will indeed, start rolling again.... and it did. On this case, it hit me hard, internally. I was in a thick layered fog, that made me have trouble breathing. But uniquely, i was still going strong externally, even stronger than before. I looked like a burgeoning being, that keeps growing and growing, externally. But the truth, i was devastated. No one knew exactly what was going on inside me. They see me as a liberty, standing gloriously and high. I had trouble finding my way in the fog. A part of me somehow got froze by the brutal fog components. I got myself wondering, where did i still get my source of power & energy to still perform at my very best externally, while i somehow feel i’ve lost it. I was lost. I was like an ongoing factory machine, kept being productive and yield great achievements & works. But does a machine have a soul? No.

“You know that once the wheel becomes stagnant, life stops. That’s not the point of life, you know that.”, another message sent under my unconsciousness that i had to dig deep in order to implement its true meanings. God knew i knew that all along, but my sight and mind was just blurred by the cruel fog. So this devastating moment was just a phase, where i had to stop by just for a while, in order to get back on track. I got up, although still a bit tumblin', but i rose.

Another point of gratefulness to god. God let me feel being on top, and also being at the very bottom of the wheel. It was a perfect cycle. It was a gift, an unforeseen one, Overall, i was more than blessed. My feet have laid steps on the most extreme places, my body have moved to the most alluring beats, my eyes have glared the most majestic sights and objects, my hands have been at its very productive point, and my soul have been in the most blessed and indescribable form.

A status symbol is formed socially. Somehow, your thoughts, mind, and perspective are structured socially. Yourself, is formed socially.

What becomes harmful, is positioned in a negative social environment. In the worst case, you become it. But i have always gratitude god, that have always placed me in the most positive environment, all along. I have been moving to places a lot, and welcoming new situations. But all along, god has always placed me with positive, true-to-self, and lovable beings. But what makes a person rely on others too much is because ones spend a lack of time with itself. Personal time is yet needed, crucially needed. Ones need to discover itself, know itself, and mark the value of its life. I do enjoy spending my time alone, in some moments. As i sit still with no faces recognizable, i can see the true reflection of myself and who i am. I could turn into the most melancholic and philosophical being when being alone, and just let my mind soar in the wilderness of my fantasy of realism. This saves me from being a person i am not. This lets me stay true to myself. It’s like rejecting the toxic of life. Especially being in the era where being harsh and widely spoken with no standard morals become general, in the era of social media.

Apart of its beneficial components, lies an unconscious sinful effect of this “primadonna” of the era. People become things they’re not, in the name of some unconscious reasons, as in the pleasure to be recognized. It changes people slowly and silently, in the name of numbers and hear & thumb shaped icons. Although this does not apply to everyone, just ones who have lack of knowledge of themselves, those who doesn’t have a grounded value of themselves and those who doesn’t know their true self. I made a term of obtuse actions in the social media as “the act of stupidity”- an unthoughtful action done with no standard morals, the act of loosing ones self. 2014, is the moment i have finally realized of this massively rapid act of stupidity done in the social media, and well have actually become a victim of it.

It wasn’t a general hate comment, but more of an accusement terror with no basic validity & reliability. Sadly, it was beyond vacuous. It was actually a mass collaboration of terror. It was like a colony. It did struck me at some points, being accused for things i have no hands on and no idea what was going on. But as i calmed myself, proving to myself that this isn’t something that needs further attention, i neglected it. Despite spreading hatred back to the anonym subjects, i felt sympathic instead. While i have all the rights to show back abhorrence, i thought it will just turn me into 1 of them. Instead, this becomes an interesting topic to be further discovered and studied just in the form of knowledge. More of a psychological knowledge. Further findings, it did make me more sympathic. People don’t act stupid for no reason, it must be because of some factors in their life that pushes them to do so. Or factors that constructs their minds and thoughts into something negative, short, and close minded. You can never fully blame them. It has somehow become an unconscious negative form in ones self. Therefore i’ve learned, hatred should never be replied with hatred. If an act of kindness seems too much, showing no heck of a deal seems legit. Because after all, sometimes a form of hatred is just a way of seeking for attention.

If you asked me what was my “The theory of the year”, it would be The Law of Attraction. I wouldn’t want to explain it here, because i believe there are more valid explanation about this theory out there (or you can just google it, the easiest way). But simply, this world contents vibrations that cannot be seen, but is there. Unconsciously, can be felt. As we truly put our heart and mind on to something, ourself releases vibrations to “call” for those things you have planted in your heart and mind. In some cases, the “call” will get a “respond”. It’s just like a form of magnet. But you must keep in mind that those that will respond are not always what you want or like, but what you need and what has been deeply planted in the mind and heart. And in order to make a “call”, make sure it is truly planted in your heart first, then transmit it into the mind.

So i was introduced to this theory by a best friend whom i like to share deep thoughts with. At first, i thought it was completely nonsense, because somehow it is beyond the logical mind. But that’s the thing about humans, we always think with our logic and always believe the logical. Though sometimes, you just gotta get out of that “logic circle”, because this world itself also consists the illogical.

Although i didn’t truly believe in it at first, i was still interested and wanted to know more. Until, i start to experience the whole theory. Perhaps, the term “ I start to experience” is a bit mistaken. What should be the term is, “I started to realize the theory has always been happening all along.”. It was just the matter of not yet realizing, and starting to realize. I then started to correlate things that had happened before into this theory. It is somehow a game of nature, a game of unconsciousness. U can now start to tell the difference between my wants, and my needs. This book i borrowed (and is still with me) from a very good friend, about the power of positive feeling, made it even clearer. The theory is not just stated, but also with valid real experiences.

So to get a good, happy, and positive life, always plant it deep down in your heart and mind, and truly believe in it. Then let nature make its calls for you. This might as well be a simple, yet good start for the year, 2015. :)

4 Indonesia: Festival #2, Summerfest Bountiful 2014 USA

Have you ever played a game, where every level felt harder? Where you had to accomplish new tasks with a higher range of difficulty? Well, this mission felt as if it was a game, with its own levels. After 1 week of stay in the city of Springville, we moved to another city named Bountiful, still in the same state of Utah. The city was indeed yet as beautiful as Springville, but i guess just a bit smaller. I couldn’t really describe its beauty.It was 1 majestic place, with nature so genuine.

There was this 1 place called Park City, where it looks like a living 30s era of Paris. The cute small stores along the streets describes it all, complete with the iconic classic trolley. It was like living in a La Dolce Vista~

Here in the Summerfest 2014 Bountiful, Utah, USA, we’ve moved on to another level, with a bigger task. In 1 day, we had to perform twice, in the afternoon & night. After all, it was a mission, that had to be accomplished. It wasn’t easy having to stay in shape and perform at our best every single day for 1 whole week, and with an additional 2 performances a day which makes us have to be in figure from morning till night.

But, our strength and power was the energy radiated from the lovely local people. Their enthusiasm and never ending motivations kept us going strong and still be at our best. They always left me amazed... on how kindful, friendly, and lovely they were all are. We felt appreciated, a lot. It seems like all of our hard work are completely payed by the sound of their cheers and clapping hands.

We, Komunitas Tari FISIP UI Radha Sarisha, performed all of our dances that we have prepared with different combinations everyday. But it seems like the Saman dance still became everyone’s favorite! People here likes to joke it around and call it the “robot” or “machine” dance, because our hands moved so fast with the exact same beat, as if we were machines. Therefore, the Saman dance became one of our mainstay dance for workshops where we had to teach the dance to the local people.It wasn’t an easy one for them because they find it a bit hard to synchronize their brain and hands. Despite that, they’ve always enjoyed it and find it funny when they have trouble learning it. And that’s one of the things why we love these people so much, is that they always turn something complexing into something enjoyable and indeed funny! Every moment just seemed so fun and beautiful in this whole process... we sometimes forgot how tired we were!

Despite the Saman dance, the Gaba-gaba dance from Maluku also became people’s interest. Its easy beats and catchy music lets people to easily dance and sing along. I remember my hostfamily (mama & papa bear!) really loved the music and learned the music then somewhat have memorized it. So they like to sing along to it, which made me so happy J It’s just a very priceless feeling, when someone that has nothing to do with our culture, attaches their hearts into it. It becomes a culture for all.

MOAB

-The land of the delicate arches-

I always believe god had entrust its wonders in this planet where our feet stood. I always believe that its form is something beyond our imaginations and logical thoughts. But, I have never imagined that rocks, could turn out into something beyond words, beyond remarkable. I have never imagined that the textured layers and gradiated brown color of rocks, could turn into something very artistic. I kept gazing through the ongoing distance of this area of beauty. My eyes didn’t found an end, i never knew how large this whole area was. But i left my self to not know, and let nature keep its mysteries.

Moab, known as the Grand Canyon of Utah, preserves over 2500 natural arches of all shapes and sizes, as well as a variety of balanced rocks, fins, and pinnacles. I didn’t really find any difference between Utah’s “Grand Canyon” and the real Grand Canyon in Nevada, especially if you want to compare its beauty. Its just a matter of name & fame. Perhaps, Grand Canyon was just more lucky to be located in the state that is the home of the legendary city, Las Vegas, and also been visited by many A listers. So this somewhat makes Moab a more genuine and natural place, where this 76.000 acres of the park contain striking contrasts of red rocks, blue skies, white clouds, and green vegetation. This makes Moab a national park with breathtaking views of Southeastern Utah's canyon country.

Being able to reach this place feels like i was in an animated Disney Pixar movie, Cars. Remember route 66? Yea it felt like that. It was a never ending road, with a sight view of textured arches and wide area of grass. I thought the road had no end, but apparently, we made it. Moab is categorized as a national park, and it contents many sub national parks in it, of course with its own special characteristics. We’ve visited the Death Horse Point & the Devil’s Garden. The dead horse point has a unique history, where it received its name from a legend that cowboys once corralled with wild horses on the peninsula around the turn of the century. They fenced them off and then selected the best ones of the herd, leaving the others behind on the waterless point. The remaining horses died of thirst leaving their bleached bones behind.

- PUZZLED ILLUSION-

Dreams are a puzzled illusion in the mind, in our thoughts. It is a deceptive impression of reality. It may never be real, until it is realized.

Our minds will always be played with these puzzeled illusions of our dreams. But there is 1 simple key to turn the table around; play the game, connect the puzzle, eliminate the illusion. It is back to our own choice; to take control of the game, or let it just remain as, illusions.

The danger lies in the comfort we feel with our illusions. It lets us soar too deep, deep to a solidation in our minds. This makes us forget the most important part of having a dream; to realize it into reality.

Dreams are about realizing our illusions into reality, by controlling & executing the game, the game of the puzzled illusions in our minds.

I still remember about a year ago (2013), i submitted my artwork for IYC 2013 Artspace exhibition. But apparently i wasn't ready enough, i wasn't qualified enough to be a part of this exhibition, with its many talented artists.

But apparently it didn't stop me there, 1 year i had to grind my skills, to test my patience.

I tried my luck again on 2014 and submitted an artwork for IYC 2014, a different one.

And apparently, among the 147 submitted artworks, i became 1 of the 26 qualified artists from all over the nation who got the chance to exhibit one of my artworks.

I have learned 1 amazing thing from this; There will come a time for you to shine. Sometimes, it needs a bit of patience, but it's worth the wait. Along the wait, upgrade yourself, be a better figure. :)

And the other thing that made me out of words are the feedbacks from the people... how they highly appreciate my artwork. This is just 1 of a few, being Urban Icon's top 6 favorite artwork from the whole exhibition, thank you. :)

The thing about creating an artwork is not about the "materials" that we might get from it, but the most valuable form in return is the form of appreciation from the people who consumes it.

Cropped Juice

In this hyped monochrome-grungy euphoria (where everyone seems so likeable in the same tone), being "in-color" & "in-patterns" is likely to be a challenging idea, but a brilliant one indeed. Popping in the middle of similarity means taking the opposite direction, which never was a crime. It does need extra courage and guts, preparing yourself for some (possibly) social claims, judgements, or glares. But self-expression has no walls nor borders, no selves who can claim it wrong.

Instead, being in colors & patterns somehow creates positive & spirited energy for our own self and others, radiating it to the whole environment. It is a good trick to create a great & happy day.

This cropped juice top seems to be one attention grabber, with its ultra eye-catching orange gradation color in dominant with mixes of green, blue, & white, creating the vibe of a blended vegetable juice. Its patterns visually look complicated from the brush strokes in vibrant colors, but if you look closer, it is as simple as a a flower pattern composed abstractly. If this was a visual art, it would be an abstract flower painting from a 10 year old on drawing paper, painted with watercolors with no formal technique, just paint here and there. But apparently, it turned out beautiful.

This is one full house party. In this case, you might not want to use any other colors outside the color compositions of this top, nor other patterns. What happens if a house is filled with people outside of its capacity? Chaos. You sure want to avoid that.

I wanted the look to look fully juiced and fresh, so then i paired it up with an orange skirt, a plain one. Since the top has a small composition of green, i decided to use some small accessories in green. The top might have some other small color composition like blue and white, but it wasn't that vibrant and would be "off the track" if i managed to use those colors for an addition object for the look, so i finished the look with some neutral essentials, like nude for the shoes & hat. Nude is always one of the best choices to close & neutralize a "bravely-shocking" look.

A pin-up picnic girl much?

The idea of a crop top might be a bit skin revealing, but i managed to overcome that by wearing a midi length skirt. The cropped top itself is purposely made to be oversized, so it wouldn't look tight on the body, to avoid looking too sexy. But 1 thing you might want to keep in mind when wearing a crop top is that please NEVER show any indications of your belly button... I somehow find that disgusting an inappropriate hehe. What you can do is wear your bottoms a bit high, at least higher than your belly buttons (so i'll be hidden). It is always ok to reveal a bit of your stomach skin, but never, your belly button.

I was inspired by women empowerment in this modern era. It has become a common thing to see the faces of woman in leading positions such as CEOs or even in the government. But i wanted to highlight our women, Indonesian women. Our culture has somehow shaped us into who we are today. It has brought originality to each individual. As i see, no matter how "powerful" we are, we still remain as a woman with our femininity and our beautiful exposure.

I do believe our traditional fashion culture has a lot to do with it. Kebaya, songket, ciput, etcs could expose the beauty of every woman in the most perfect way. It shows beauty, but also power. Being beautiful should not be interpreted as being weak.

So here are the portraits of Indonesian Women, through a perspective.
