One Prayer 2010

This June, believers around the world are standing together in unity for One Prayer 2010. Thousands of churches will join forces to share resources, serve our communities, and give to a meaningful cause. As we come together across continents and cultures, we’ll have the opportunity to leave a permanent imprint of Christ on the world.

•One Prayer lasts from June 5/6 to 26/27.
•Churches will have access to free video messages from gifted teachers and pastors.
•Other free resources such as graphics and videos will be available.
•Churches are encouraged to team up with other churches in their area for outreach and service projects during One Prayer.
•Churches can collect an optional offering during One Prayer to benefit the organization of their choice.
•There is no cost to participate in One Prayer, though a free registration is required.

Our church was part of One Prayer 2009 and it was a great experience being linked with other churches to make a difference on the earth. I encourage you and your church to get involved this year.

Next Generation- Faith handed down

SOAP Devotions

Scripture: Judges 2:10-11
“After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who neither knew the Lord nor what he had done for Israel. Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals.”

Observation:
Here is the challenge facing every generation. We must make sure that our children know the Lord and also see His power at work in and through our lives. That is the greatest inheritance we can give, not material possessions, but to know and experience God’s power in their lives while they are growing up. If we fail here is what happens according to verse 12 they will forsake the Lord, they will follow and worship false god’s and idols, they will provoke God to anger by their acts of unfaithfulness. In verse 14 it says that God will hand them over, he will sell them and be against them. That is a challenging thought.

Application:
As a community we must help the next generation know and experience their God in their everyday lives. This is my challenge as a leader- to equip my leaders to disciple the next generation.

Prayer:
Father show me how to prepare the next generation to have a rich relationship with You.

Leaders Must Judge Well- Discipline

SOAP Devotions

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 5:1-2
“It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that does not occur even among pagans: A man has his father’s wife. And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have been filled with grief and have put out of your fellowship the man who did this?”

Observation: God takes sexual immorality very seriously and He expects us as his Church to do the same. He expects us as leaders to be grieved by such behaviour and then be courageous and take action to remove it. This is so that others do not stumble and fall- check out the process…

Application:
Verse 9-11- Do not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother or sister
Verse 12-13- Expel the brother or sister
Verse 6-8- Why? Because the sin will affect others
Verse 4-5- How? Publicly expose them and hand them over to satan so that there is destruction of the flesh and sinful nature and the spirit may be saved. This may sound harsh but their salvation and eternity is more important than comfort in this life. If they are at first unresponsive, through these actions they may be saved from themselves.

Prayer: Father, help pastors and leaders to apply this well so that our communities may be protected and saved.

Seeing is Believing- Reason & Deception

SOAP Devotions

Scripture: Joshua 9:14
“The men of Israel sampled their provisions but did not enquire of the Lord.”

Observation: Joshua ended up disobeying the command of the Lord because he followed reason and what his eyes were telling him. His eyes deceived him. He ended up being tricked by the enemy. They created the illusion that he needed to see in order that he would make the mistake of letting them live.

Application: No matter what something looks like on the outside be sure to still take the time to enquire of the Lord as to what His plan and purpose is. The enemy will always be trying to deceive us into a treaty of peace with him- we must not do it!

Prayer: Father help me to never just act on what my eyes tell me but prompt me to always enquire of You and Your will in the matter.

Shape up or ship out!

SOAP Devotions

Scripture: Joshua 14:11-12
“I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day.”

Observation: Once Caleb had seen the promised land, his inheritance promised from God; he was keeping himself in good shape until he got it. He was 45 years old when he saw it but everyone else’s negativity stopped him from receiving it. He could have thrown a wobbly and sulked, walking off whinging about life and God being unfair but he didn’t. Vision kept his heart, spirit and emotions on target.

Application: Never lose vision of the end goal- the promised inheritance. Stay in good shape, keep strong, keep fit- vigorous for battle until you reach the goal the Lord has set for you.

Prayer: Father help me to keep myself and others motivated towards the mission you have called us to.

Open Door Policy

Scripture:
Revelation 3:19-20 “Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.

Observation:
The thing to always remember is this…if I never sense the feeling of being disciplined and rebuked by the Father then I will never experience His love either. Those he loves he also disciplines and rebukes. Rebuke and discipline are the keys to opening the door of our heart for Christ to come back in. Rebuke and discipline are the knocks on the door as a prelude to our response of letting Christ back in to heal us from our fallen state.

Application:
If I always want to experience the Father’s love then I need to keep a responsive heart to his rebuke and discipline.

Prayer:
Father help me to always have an open door on my heart for you to enter as you please.

Take me to Your Leader

Scripture:
Revelation 14:11-12 11 “And the smoke of their torment rises for ever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his name.” 12This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God’s commandments and remain faithful to Jesus.

Observation:
There is so much about this book that we simply can’t understand but a few principles ring really clear…
People who worship the wrong leader will suffer torment and a lack of rest. These people bear his mark or brand. The thief comes to steal kill and destroy. Their lives have a destructive tone to them.

Application:
I must keep God as the focus of my worship, I must joyfully obey his commandments and always remain faithful to my Saviour Jesus. Then I must lead my people to do the same.

Prayer:
Lord help me to shepherd the people under my care so that they are spared being left behind in a mess.

Unwrapping the Gift- Destiny & Purpose

Scripture: Jeremiah 1:5 ” Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.

Observation: This verse tells us so much about where we came from, where we are going and why we are on this planet. Just think about this:

1. Before I formed you in the womb I knew you – try & get your head around that one! Somehow we had relationship with God before we existed in this world! Before we had the physical form of this body, we already had some other form in the heavenlies. I wonder if those that feel like they have a previous life memory are actually catching reflections of their relationship with God before being formed into this world?

2. Before you were born I set you apart – think about that. Before you enter this world God already has a plan and purpose for your life and he has set you apart for it. There is something that only you can do, something that God has you on the planet for!

3. I appointed you as a Prophet to the Nations – wow, not only has he set us apart for his plan & purpose for us. He has appointed us to this task like Frodo in Lord of the Rings. There is something only you can do. God who knew you & had relationship with you before he formed you has set you apart for this task. He has appointed you for it. It is the reason you are alive and exist, and it is a crystal mission not some nebulous wishy washy thing. Very clear & very concise! Jeremiah was appointed as a prophet to the nations!

Application: This verse of scripture should cause us to assess everything about how we approach life, how we parent, how we work out our calling and destiny so that we leave this earth knowing we accomplished what he sent us here for. All the answers to life’s purpose, plan & destiny are found in our relationship with Him who dwells within us. We should spend time with the Father to work out what is going on within not from without. Parents study your child to discover what they created to do. The answer is found within. Stop putting a whole lot of options in from without that will only bring confusion. Just work out what is being outworked from within! God already has it all there ready to be unwrapped!

Prayer: Father help me to remember that all people have their destiny & purpose in this life within. Give me wisdom to know how to help them discover and unwrap it so they fulfill what you put them on this planet to accomplish. Outwork this in me so I can help outwork it in others! Amen
