Today at the Fab Lab I built A little iPhone dock on the laser cutter. They didn’t have the correct sized machine screws so I had to enlarge the holes for a 1″ 10-24 thread screw.

• Take better care of my body / run and bike more.
• Write a blog post at least every week. For a total of at least 50 by the end of the year. ( what constitutes a blog post may vary from the norm )
•  Hopefully these will explore more than just technical topics, and possibly focus on things I have a hard time talking about.
• Get funding for and produce the Magic Grip.
• Delete most of my RSS feeds
• Conduct a study on the effectiveness of prayer with my in-laws as an example of skeptical thinking.
• Langi and I would like to buy our first house by the end of the year.
• And many more unexpected things.

Enter the Magic Grip

An ergonomic attachment for the Magic Mouse.

My project was accepted and I was able to gather a design team to begin sketching up designs.

We were able to rapidly create the initial prototype using my super duper 3D imaging, modeling techniques, and having a 3D printer available helped as well…

After testing the prototype for a few days I noticed the shape was pushing my hand too far away from the touch surface, along with angling the mouse to the left. That Friday I began working on the next iteration. Which entailed pushing up the back arch support to the top of the mouse and to the right. ( for righties, this will be flipped on the left handed version. )

Currently I’ve printed a second prototype, and am working on a third.

A feature of Siri and the Reminders app I haven’t heard anyone talk about yet is its ability to add items to particular lists. Its probably been covered on a couple Siri how-tos but I feel it wouldn’t hurt to re-state it.

Chaining

After you have entered one item into your shopping list you can use Siri’s context aware capabilities to continue adding items to the list without having to say the lengthy “to the shopping list”. Just start saying by activating Siri again via the mic button and preface any item you want to add to the list with “add”. So you would say something like this “add Honey”. And viola! Siri knows which list you’re talking about and you don’t have to sound like some sort of demented enchanter rattling off “add bacon to my shopping list, add soap to my shopping list” ect.

More often then not I find myself attempting to roam the deep recesses of my mind while walking through the grocery isles because I forgot to jot down consumed food items. Now I don’t have an excuse as the barrier is so low to capture these observations. And yet I still manage to every now and then…

A couple weeks back I gave a talk at Tulsa Tech Fest 20111 on some of the new CSS3 features that are becoming available in modern browsers.

The talk focused on Internet Explorer support for versions 8-10, as the conference was primarily Microsoft and to give any present future Windows 8 developers an idea of what is possible on IE10 based Metro applications.

The download also contains my button demo, which was an attempt to cram as many practical CSS3 features into a button as possible for demonstration purposes. The demo directory is a git repo so you can back track the code to see the button in different states of completeness.
