I enjoy life now and live each day to the fullest. My life is no longer controlled by drug use, instead I am in control. Although not everything has been easy, I try to take everything in my stride and deal with problems as they arise. I have been lucky to have a great deal of support from the staff and residents of the Bridge Project.

Since being on the Bridge Project, I have had the opportunity to pursue interests that before were not as important as using drugs. I am currently doing a hairdresser course, and in September 2008 I am starting on a two year hair and beauty course at a local college. This has always been my dream and I am so excited about having this opportunity.

I have recently moved onto the Aftercare section of the Bridge Project, which means that I have a bit more independence and my own little flat. This has been a big step for me, and I am so proud that I have gotten to this stage.

Since coming off heroin I have made every effort to keep myself busy and learn skills that will benefit me in the future. I currently volunteer in the kitchens at the Salvation Army hostel, helping to prepare breakfast and lunch for the residents and staff. Although this means early mornings I love it because it keeps me busy, teaches me new skills and, of course, I get a free lunch!!

I have also become a volunteer for Wired In. I want to share my experiences of addiction and recovery with others so that people have hope that addiction can be overcome. I never really believed that recovery was possible – but I got there and it has been more than worth the hard work.
