I love this. It’s clearly a robocall but it’s evidently hitting lots of people. If you get a call asking you to call 1-800-676-9314, don’t bother, it’s a scam.

Here is what Google Voice thinks he is saying:

Hey guys, It’s Rick Morgan here. Hey, sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to you, just been real busy here with this new program is just come across my desk can lower your interest rates to as low as 1.5%. I got your monthly payment in half on your credit cards and I. D. C. Here that you’re only making minimum payments on those, so would be a great opportunity here for you, so please don’t hesitate and don’t wait any longer. This is the last courtesy call that I can make it so it’s imperative that you give me a ring today. You can reach me here at 1(800) 676-9314 again. My name is Brent, Morgan, and you can reach me here at 1(800) 676-9314.

jQuery.load is a POST in IE but a GET in Firefox

With a major thanks to JustinBall.com, I have finally figured out a major issue with a production app. That’ll teach me to not test in IE on PC.

So, what ends up happening is that a call to jQuery.load for some reason will be sent as a POST in IE. Of course, if you are using resources in Rails (which you should if you’re RESTful), this routes the HTTP call to the create action instead of the index action as you might assume.

For example:

jQuery(document).ready(function(){ jQuery("#ajax_table").load('/companies.js'); });

The code above will be sent to the create action of the CompaniesController instead of the index action.

Turns out (thanks again to Justin Ball) the issue comes from a JS trick that most Rails developers use to send along their AUTH_TOKEN in the jQuery Ajax call. I placed this code into my application.js

This ends up adding information to settings.data which is a problem since IE sees that and decides to send a POST instead of a GET. Justin’s ingenious fix is as follows:

Windows 7 and Samsung Omnia

So, I love my Samsung Omnia. And I love Windows 7. Up until now, though, I haven’t gotten them to play nicely together.

Today, I successfully got them to be friends. I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, but the process should be similar for other versions.

1. Make sure your Omnia is not connected via Bluetooth or USB to your computer.

2. Uninstall Windows Mobile Device Center from Control Panel -> Programs -> Uninstall a program

3. Download (after Windows Genuine Validation) the WMDC update (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx)

4. Install WMDC update.

5. Plug in Omnia and voila, it works.
