Caruso-Cabrera: Tweak Your Platform, GOP
Topics:Barack Obama | Democrats | Republicans | Politics &amp; Government | Economy (U.S.)By: Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, CNBC Reporter | 24 Jun 2009 | 11:06 AM ET Text Size

Michelle Caruso-Cabrera
Anchor
More evidence of what’s wrong with the Republican party emerged this week with the Mark Sanford scandal. If you haven’t heard, the governor of South Carolina disappeared to who knows where this past week. (Now he says he was not on the Appalachian Trail but in Argentina.) He didn’t tell his wife or his staff, which has lead to all kinds of speculation that he is A: Having an affair; B: Having a nervous breakdown.

If the answer is A, you can add it to the long list of hypocritical actions by self-righteous Republicans. Insert here Senator John Ensign recently having to apologize for an affair.

The Republican Party insists that "American values" must be a core part of the platform. Their values of course; and yet values that many of them don't adhere to. There are few crimes greater in America than hypocrisy.

If the Republican party would stick to what matters, fiscal issues, they would do a heck of a lot better at the polls. They wouldn't have to be worried about looking like hypocrites every time one of them has an affair, or when (gasp!) one of their unmarried daughters turns out to be gay or pregnant.

The Republican party platform should be one line long: We will stay out of your pocketbook and out of your private life.

But what did they do for the last eight years under President George Bush? They invaded both. Putting aside social issues, the Republicans spent money like drunken sailors. With a Republican party like that, who needs Democrats?

Money &amp; Politics With Larry Kudlow:

We Don’t Need Big-Bang Health-Care Reform
An Imperial Fed?
The Karl Roves of the world will say that I am naïve, that I don’t understand politics, that I come from one of the coasts where people are more socially liberal, that I don’t understand the Midwest, that you must use social issues like gay marriage to get the vote out, blah blah blah.

I disagree. It was a Democrat who said "It’s the economy, stupid." He was right.

wow! Firstly, having spent all my time on the Colombia websites I am surprised to see that Argentina has much, much less info available! Especially seeing as there are relatively so few travellers in Colombia....
Ok, waffle over, I am heading to Argentina(Buenos Aires I think exclusively til I have some cash saved) at the beginning of July, and I would be really grateful of any tips you may have with regards to where to stay(on a budget- I am aware it`s not the cheapest place to travel) and also hints and tips on working there, visasa etc, as I really need to get a job asap.
Thanks in advance!

Also, are there hostel lists on here?<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/pbh-argentina/~4/FO_hQktaTuU" height="1" width="1"/>

Come on, be honest with yourself. Do you really love what you do? Or do you spend endless hours in a job that drains you and leaves you with no time or energy to enjoy life? Do you ever wonder if you're seeking success the long way around? Albert Schweitzer says that success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success.

If you love what you're doing you will be successful.

A lot of people just like you are spending too much time downtown in gray partitioned cubicles when they could be making better money by working at home. No, you don't have to be a novelist, an artist or wealthy investor to work at home!

The power of the Internet now makes it possible for you to earn a very good income without ever leaving your house.

Whether you already have a business or a product of your own or even if you don't have the first idea how to begin an online business-you can succeed with a few simple tools and a little persistence and determination. I can tell you personally that it's well worth the time.

Check out my Web site and try it out yourself. It is easy to start a web-based business! Just select the Web site below and make today your first day on your road to success.

I know, I know. This is a REALLY long post. I figured I haven’t been writing while in Mendoza and this is my way to catch up. I have broken this post into Day 1, then Day 2, so you can break up your reading pleasure over time and won’t get tired reading this at work for the rest of the day.

Wines are to northern California what wines are to Mendoza. We took the long distance bus ( Chevallier ) 307 pesos roundtrip out of Buenos Aires on Thursday, arriving in Mendoza early in the morning after a somewhat longer than anticipated bus ride.

Mendoza is 665 miles (1,074 km) west of Buenos Aires, in the foothills of the Andes. Since it is at a higher elevation (746 meters or 2,449 ft) you could guess it would be cooler than Buenos Aires, but that isn’t the case. This is high desert and the forecast was for low 80s F (upper 20s C), which would be perfect for visiting wine country.

From the city you can see the front range of the Andes and some of the snow capped second range. You have to take a tour to get to the highest, third range.

After getting settled into our hotel and walking around the town for about 45 minutes I think I had seen most of Mendoza. It is a city of a bit over 100,000 with 800,000 in the metro region, but there isn’t too much to the city itself. All its wonder lies in the outskirts and within the province which shares the same name.

I am coming to Buenos Aires for two months or more (December - February 2009), to learn Spanish (and also a teacher training course).
I am looking for a comfortable room to rent near the town centre, with a cultured/professional family who will speak only Spanish with me (I am leaving Medellin in Colombia because too many people speak English to me!).
Other requirements:
The room must be quiet, with a desk and the possibility to connect to wi-fi.
Possibility to park a motorcycle somewhere (I might buy one when I arrive).
Evening meals with the family is preferred.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/pbh-argentina/~4/f6YwYWjz2GQ" height="1" width="1"/>

There we go, I meant originally to put this here.

I think he is there just for inspiration, and will have a solid coaching staff to back him up. I am not sure if it is a good idea ultimately, based on his previous (dismal) managing record, but let's face it... when you have God managing you, how badly can you do ;)?

Any thoughts on this move?<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/pbh-argentina/~4/0wcIqDwXx2U" height="1" width="1"/>

Based on his previous managing experience, Argentina are doomed, however many of the players will be mentally ejaculating at the prospect of being coached by their idol/God.

I hope it works out, he will clearly have a very good coaching staff behind him. I would think he is there more for inspirational purposes rather than technical prowess, however he has been in a winning WC side, could this serve Argentina well come 2010?

Time will tell.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/pbh-argentina/~4/HLVIlPglcRw" height="1" width="1"/>

 Hola,

Gracias<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/pbh-argentina/~4/SBB-Qag0FRI" height="1" width="1"/>
