A previous post reminded me of an uncle of mine. This was my father’s, long dead, younger brother, Ollie.

Although, with his swarthy complexion, you might guess him to be of some Mediterranean extraction, he came from German stock.

After WWII Ollie owned a very popular nightclub (with all sorts of live entertainment) in Pennsylvania, and in this case the innkeeper was the provocateur.

He had a habit of moving between two patrons at the bar, and engage them in a three way conversation. Somehow he managed to incite an argument between the two, and then walk away chuckling.

My wife’s uncle might have said; “This story is true, it just never happened”, but it did.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi defied policy logic and public opinion late Saturday night, ramming through the House a nearly 2,000-page health-care leviathan that counts as the biggest expansion of the federal government since the New Deal. As President Obama likes to say, this was a "teachable moment" about our current government.

The vote was 220 to 215, with 39 House Democrats joining all but one Republican in opposition. Mrs. Pelosi had to cajole and bribe her way to the magic 218, and the list of her promises must be stacked to the ceiling.

The lone Republican, Joseph Cao, represents a Democratic-leaning Louisiana district and extracted a promise that Mr. Obama would increase Medicaid payments to his state, and even then he only voted after Democrats had already hit 218. Let no one suggest this was the "bipartisan" health reform that Mr. Obama has long promised.

The bill is instead a breathtaking display of illiberal ambition, intended to make the middle class more dependent on government through the umbilical cord of "universal health care." It creates a vast new entitlement, financed by European levels of taxation on business and individuals. The 20% corner of Medicare open to private competition is slashed, while fiscally strapped states are saddled with new Medicaid burdens. The insurance industry will have to vet every policy with Washington, which will regulate who it must cover, what it can offer, and how much it can charge.

We have little sympathy for the insurers, or for that matter most of the other medical providers who signed on to this process only to claim now to be appalled by the result. The insurance lobby—led by Aetna CEO Ron Williams—made the Faustian bet that it could trade new regulations for more new subsidized customers who would face a tax penalty if they didn't buy their insurance. The Pelosi bill includes the regulation but guts the tax penalty because it's unpopular. Insurers will thus have to cover more sick people with fewer dollars, as healthy folk opt out of coverage until they are sick.

This writing was on the wall months ago, but the insurers chose to play an inside game rather than shape public opinion. Judging by their weekend statement—criticizing the House bill but vowing to seek "bipartisan" reform—they will now throw themselves at the mercy of the Senate. Good luck with that. The real victims are their customers, most of whom will pay more for insurance as the new mandates raise costs.

Mrs. Pelosi's craftiest political turn was a last-minute compromise to strip federal funds from insurance plans that cover abortions. The deal—negotiated by Michigan Democrat Bart Stupak and supported by the National Right to Life Committee—gave cover to 40-some Democrats to support the larger bill.

However, as subsidized costs soar, government will have no choice but to ration medical care, starting with the aged and grievously ill. Is pre-natal life more valuable than the elderly? We're reminded of the way pro-lifers supported Anthony Kennedy over Laurence Silberman for the Supreme Court in 1987 merely because Mr. Kennedy was a Catholic who claimed to personally oppose abortion. Mr. Stupak played the right-to-lifers like a Stradavarius.

The real importance of the abortion uproar is as preview of the politics that will dominate every medical coverage issue if ObamaCare becomes law. Every decision of what to insure or not—when an MRI can be used, or whether a stage-four breast cancer patient can get Avastin or some future expensive drug—will become subject to political intervention over moral disputes or budget constraints. Heretofore, these decisions have largely been made between a doctor and patient. This is the real "right to life" issue.

Perhaps the most unsurprising news in this drama was the collapse of the Blue Dog "deficit hawks." Enough of them always cave in the end to give Mrs. Pelosi her way. It's nonetheless worth noting the surrender of that most vocal scourge of deficits, Tennessee's Jim Cooper, who voted aye on grounds that the bill can be improved in the Senate.

But Max Baucus's Finance Committee bill includes a similar gimmick of making the numbers look good by using 10 years of new taxes to finance only seven years of spending (six in the House). The deficits explode in the second decade and beyond in both bills.

The House also contains a new government long-term insurance program that starts collecting premiums in 2011 but doesn't starting paying benefits until 2016 and then runs out of money in 2029. North Dakota Democrat Kent Conrad called it "a Ponzi scheme of the first order, the kind of thing that Bernie Madoff would have been proud of" in an interview with the Washington Post in late October. Mr. Cooper has with a single vote made his entire career irrelevant.

Yet 39 other Democrats were given a pass on the vote, as the leadership knows how unpopular this bill is in most of America. They know this legislation is not the result of some national consensus in favor of expanding state power. Its passage was possible only because of temporary liberal majorities that are intent on fulfilling their dreams of a cradle-to-grave entitlement state. If they lose Blue Dog seats, or even their majority, in the short term, so be it. As the party of government, Democrats believe they will benefit in the long run from a much larger government.

Unless the Senate has an epiphany of common sense, Americans will be paying the bills for this willful exercise for generations to come.

TORONTO - A Brampton, Ont., man is questioning why the nurse who gave his young daughter and almost a dozen other children double the recommended dose of the H1N1 flu vaccine is still giving out the swine flu shot.

It's just the latest problem to surface in Ontario's bumpy rollout of the swine flu vaccine.

That rollout has included vaccine shortages, days-long lineups for vaccinations at public clinics and board members at about a dozen Toronto hospitals and several players and staff from the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and the NBA's Toronto Raptors being allowed to jump the queue in getting their flu shot ahead of the general public.

Ted Hedrich said in an interview from his home in Brampton on Sunday that he was told that his three-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Selena, was one of 11 children who were given the higher dose by a nurse working at the Indell Lane clinic last Monday afternoon.

But he wasn't called by a Peel Public Health supervisor until Thursday when he was told of the error, he said.

Health officials have recommended young children only get half the adult dose initially - which would be 0.25 ml for children - and then get the other half several weeks later. But Hedrich said his daughter was given 0.5 ml.

Hedrich said he was told the nurse now has been retrained on the proper procedure.

"I was absolutely shocked," he said, that the nurse was still giving flu shots.

He said he thinks the nurse should lose her licence, noting someone who accidentally shoots someone with a gun would likely go to jail.

A second Peel Public Health supervisor called him on Friday to express sympathy and ask how his daughter was doing, but didn't give him a formal apology, he said.

He took Selena to their family physician on Friday and was told to take his daughter for X-rays because she had a "slight rasp" in her chest, he said, adding she hasn't felt well since getting the vaccine.

"She's got the sore throat, runny nose, dysentery. There's been no fever and no aches and pains, which we're just praying that none of those pop up," he said.

However Peel Public Health officials and the family doctor wouldn't say if the symptoms were related to the flu shot, he said.

Hedrich said he regrets allowing his daughter to get the flu shot, but at the time, he and his wife Lisa were swayed by news of the deaths last month of 13-year-old Toronto hockey player Evan Frustaglio and Vanetia Warner, a 10-year-old girl from Cornwall.

"We weren't sure if we were going to take my daughter in for the shot. The two healthy kids dying kind of sealed it," he said.

He didn't want to take any chances, so his wife and daughter waited a couple of hours in line to get the inoculation. He said his wife got her flu shot first, then his daughter.

Hedrich, who is a project engineer manager, said he won't be getting a flu shot when the vaccine is available to the general public.

He said he has sent emails to people he knows, advising them to be cautious when getting a needle, and check the dose themselves.

"Do not take for granted that just because somebody says they are a nurse or whatever, they're going to give you a shot, you ask about their qualifications and then you demand to see that the shot is the proper dose," he said.

Unfortunately a lot of people put medical personnel on a pedestal, he said.

His family has been calling him to check that his daughter is all right and his neighbours have provided support. Even his pharmacist has called him to check on Selena, he said.

Hedrich remains worried about what long-term effect the double dose of vaccine could have on his daughter.

He said he has consulted with his lawyer, but would not elaborate on whether he is considering any legal action.

Peel Region's associate medical officer of health, Dr. Kathleen Dooling, said in a statement there are no significant ill effects found for children at that dosage level.

Peel Region is investigating how the error occurred and taking steps to ensure it is not repeated, she said.

Ontario is expected to get 770,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine this week for those considered at high risk, but it's still unclear when it will arrive, Dr. Arlene King, Ontario's chief medical officer of health, said on Friday.

There's still no firm date on when it will be available to the general public.

SAO PAULO – A Brazilian university has expelled a woman who was heckled by hundreds of fellow students for wearing a short, pink dress to class — publicly accusing her Sunday of immorality.

The private Bandeirante University in Sao Bernardo do Campo, outside Sao Paulo, said 20-year-old Geisy Arruda disrespected "ethical principles, academic dignity and morality."

RCMP charge Rwandan with war crimes

http://news.ca.msn.com/top-stories/cbc-article.aspx?cp-documentid=22537559

The Mounties have arrested a 37-year-old Rwandan man in southwestern Ontario and charged him with war crimes related to the 1994 genocide in his home country.

Investigators picked up Jacques Mungwarere, who's been living in Windsor, Ont., late Friday in the city and took him to Ottawa, where he made a brief court appearance Saturday and was remanded in custody until another court date on Thursday.

Mungwarere becomes the second person to be charged with genocide under the Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act, which became law in October 2000.

But the case, which has been more than six years in the making, is shrouded in secrecy.

The RCMP war crimes unit would only confirm that Mungwarere was accused of committing an act of genocide in the area of Kibuye, Rwanda.

The community is the capital of a western province and is situated on a lake that borders Rwanda and the Congo. It was the scene in 1994 of a horrific massacre where at least 2,000 Tutsis died when bulldozers knocked down the church where they had sought refuge.

RCMP cagey about details

RCMP Sgt. Marc Menard refused to go into details about the allegations against Mungwarere, saying that prosecutors in the Justice Department will have to answer specifics.

Officials with the Justice Department were not immediately available to comment.

"The RCMP's position is that we take this very seriously," Menard said Saturday.

"We're committed to prosecuting these cases to the full extent of law, and we're going to hold those involved in these types of crimes accountable for their actions."

Nearly 800,000 members of Rwanda's Tutsi minority and moderates from the Hutu majority were slaughtered during the 100-day Rwandan genocide in 1994.

Last May, Desire Munyaneza became the first person ever convicted under the War Crimes Act. A Quebec judge sentenced him to life in prison last month, with no chance of parole for 25 years.

In a statement, the RCMP's war crimes section said the investigation involving Mungwarere began in February 2003 after the unit received a complaint from a concerned citizen. But Menard couldn't say whether the tip originated in Canada or elsewhere.

How Mungwarere came to be in Canada and what his status might be in the immigration system is unclear.

Menard said the Canada Border Services Agency would have to answer that, and officials there were not immediately available for comment.

"I can only say that he is a Rwandan national," he said in an interview.

'Horrific outburst of violence'
An Army psychiatrist allegedly opened fire Thursday in a crowded medical building at Fort Hood, Tex., killing at least 13 people and wounding others.

Probe of suspect's motive begins
WEB POSTINGS SPUR QUESTIONS Officials may not have heeded warning signs

By Scott Wilson, Carrie Johnson and Spencer S. Hsu
Saturday, November 7, 2009

Investigators on Friday bore down on the possible motives of Maj. Nidal M. Hasan, the alleged Fort Hood gunman, to determine whether his actions were driven by stress related to his upcoming deployment to Afghanistan or to an Islamist political ideology.
Law enforcement officials also faced questions about whether they had missed possible warning signs. Six months ago, investigators came across Internet postings, allegedly by Hasan, that indicated sympathy for suicide bombers and empathized with the plight of Muslim civilians killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to a federal official briefed on the situation. The official, and another source, said investigators never confirmed whether Hasan was the author of the postings and did not pursue the matter.

The postings were among a handful of possible red flags that preceded Thursday's rampage, in which 13 people were killed and 38 were wounded in the deadliest mass shooting on a U.S. military installation to date. Friends and acquaintances said Hasan had been increasingly agitated over the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and he reportedly said the U.S. "war on terror" was a "war on Muslims." Officials have seized Hasan's computer to determine his role in the blog posts and other writings.

Fort Hood shooter regularly described war on terror as "war on Islam"
Islamic jihadists routinely characterize anti-terror efforts as part of a "war on Islam." But of course, there is no war on terror, and there is no war on Islam. There is just the Islamic jihad against the U.S. and the West. "Hasan Called War on Terror 'War Against Islam,' Classmate Says," by Justin Blum for Bloomberg, November 6:

Nov. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army psychiatrist accused of killing 13 people and wounding 30 others at the Fort Hood Army Base in Texas, regularly described the war on terror as "a war against Islam," according to a doctor who was in a graduate program with him.
While studying for a masters degree in public health in 2007, Hasan used a presentation for an environmental health class to argue that Muslims were being targeted by the U.S. anti-terror campaign, said Val Finnell, a classmate.

"He was very vocal about the war, very upfront about being a Muslim first and an American second," said Finnell, 41, a preventive medicine doctor in Los Angeles, in an interview today. "He was always concerned that Muslims in the military were being persecuted."...

How did we ever cope as kids????

I thought about the 30 year business I ran with 1800 employees, all without a Blackberry that played music, took videos, pictures and communicated with Facebook and Twitter.

I signed up under duress for Twitter and Facebook, so my seven kids, their spouses, 13 grandkids and 2 great grand kids could communicate with me in the modern way. I figured I could handle something as simple as Twitter with only 140 characters of space.

That was before one of my grandkids hooked me up for Tweeter, Tweetree, Twhirl, Twitterfon, Tweetie and Twittererific Tweetdeck, Twitpix and something that sends every message to my cell phone and every other program within the texting world.

My phone was beeping every three minutes with the details of everything except the bowel movements of the entire next generation. I am not ready to live like this. I keep my cell phone in the garage in my golf bag.

The kids bought me a GPS for my last birthday because they say I get lost every now and then going over to the grocery store or library. I keep that in a box under my tool bench with the Blue tooth [it's red] phone I am supposed to use when I drive. I wore it once and was standing in line at Barnes and Noble talking to my wife as everyone in the nearest 50 yards was glaring at me. Seems I have to take my hearing aid out to use it and I got a little loud.

I mean the GPS looked pretty smart on my dash board, but the lady inside was the most annoying, rudest person I had run into in a long time. Every 10 minutes, she would sarcastically say, "Re-calc-ul-ating" You would think that she could be nicer. It was like she could barely tolerate me. She would let go with a deep sigh and then tell me to make a U-turn at the next light. Then when I would make a right turn instead, it was not good.

When I get really lost now, I call my wife and tell her the name of the cross streets and while she is starting to develop the same tone as Gypsy, the GSP lady, at least she loves me.

To be perfectly frank, I am still trying to learn how to use the cordless phones in our house. We have had them for 4 years, but I still haven't figured out how I can lose three phones all at once and have run around digging under chair cushions and checking bathrooms and the dirty laundry baskets when the phone rings.

The world is just getting too complex for me. They even mess me up every time I go to the grocery store. You would think they could settle on something themselves but this sudden "Paper or Plastic?" every time I check out just knocks me for a loop. I bought some of those cloth reusable bags to avoid looking confused but I never remember to take them in with me.

Now I toss it back to them. When they ask me, "Paper or Plastic?" I just say, "Doesn't matter to me. I am bi-sacksual." Then it's their turn to stare at me with a blank look.

I was recently asked if I tweet. I answered, No, but I do toot a lot."

NOTE...this was shared with me by another 'young' timer.

The "Costs" of Medical Care

By esanch36 on Nov 5, 2009, 13:48.

 The "Costs" of Medical Care
Thomas Sowell
www.creators.com/opinion/thomas-sowell/the-costs-of-medical-care.html

We are incessantly being told that the cost of medical care is "too high"— either absolutely or as a growing percentage of our incomes. But nothing that is being proposed by the government is likely to lower those costs, and much that is being proposed is almost certain to increase the costs.

There is a fundamental difference between reducing costs and simply shifting costs around, like a pea in a shell game at a carnival. Costs are not reduced simply because you pay less at a doctor's office and more in taxes— or more in insurance premiums, or more in higher prices for other goods and services that you buy, because the government has put the costs on businesses that pass those costs on to you.

Costs are not reduced simply because you don't pay them. It would undoubtedly be cheaper for me to do without the medications that keep me alive and more vigorous in my old age than people of a similar age were in generations past.

Letting old people die would undoubtedly be cheaper than keeping them alive— but that does not mean that the costs have gone down. It just means that we refuse to pay the costs. Instead, we pay the consequences. There is no free lunch.

Providing free lunches to people who go to hospital emergency rooms is one of the reasons for the current high costs of medical care for others. Politicians mandating what insurance companies must cover is another free lunch that leads to higher premiums for medical insurance— and fewer people who can afford it.

Despite all the demonizing of insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies or doctors for what they charge, the fundamental costs of goods and services are the costs of producing them.

If highly paid chief executives of insurance companies or pharmaceutical companies agreed to work free of charge, it would make very little difference in the cost of insurance or medications. If doctors' incomes were cut in half, that would not lower the cost of producing doctors through years of expensive training in medical schools and hospitals, nor the overhead costs of running doctors' offices.

What it would do is reduce the number of very able people who are willing to take on the high costs of a medical education when the return on that investment is greatly reduced and the aggravations of dealing with government bureaucrats are added to the burdens of the work.

Britain has had a government-run medical system for more than half a century and it has to import doctors, including some from Third World countries where the medical training may not be the best.

In short, reducing doctors' income is not reducing the cost of medical care, it is refusing to pay those costs. Like other ways of refusing to pay costs, it has consequences.

Any one of us can reduce medical costs by refusing to pay them. In our own lives, we recognize the consequences. But when someone with a gift for rhetoric tells us that the government can reduce the costs without consequences, we are ready to believe in such political miracles.

There are some ways in which the real costs of medical care can be reduced but the people who are leading the charge for a government takeover of medical care are not the least bit interested in actually reducing those costs, as distinguished from shifting the costs around or just refusing to pay them.

The high costs of "defensive medicine"— expensive tests, medications and procedures required to protect doctors and hospitals from ruinous lawsuits, rather than to help the patients— could be reduced by not letting lawyers get away with filing frivolous lawsuits.

If a court of law determines that the claims made in such lawsuits are bogus, then those who filed those claims could be forced to reimburse those who have been sued for all their expenses, including their attorneys' fees and the lost time of people who have other things to do. But politicians who get huge campaign contributions from lawyers are not about to pass laws to do this.

Why should they, when it is so much easier just to start a political stampede with fiery rhetoric and glittering promises?

Ecuador may return Indian helicopters after crash

By sloopskipper on Oct 31, 2009, 11:37.

"MOSCOW, October 29 (RIA Novosti) - Ecuador could return six helicopters recently bought from an Indian company after one of the aircraft crashed at an air show last week, the Unverso newspaper reported on Thursday.

One of the seven Dhruv combat helicopters Ecuador had purchased from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited crashed during an air show in the Ecuadoran capital, Quito, last Saturday, injuring the pilot and co-pilot.

Ecuadoran Air Force chief Rodrigo Bohorquez was quoted as saying the contract allowed the return in the event of an irreparable fault.

A special commission is investigating the accident.

The rearmament of the Ecuadoran Air Force was announced in August. The Latin American country's government said it was ready to buy aircraft from Brazil and South Africa. In late September, Ecuadoran President Rafael Correa said combat aircraft from any nations, be it Venezuela, Colombia, the United States or Israel, would be welcome as gifts.

Venezuela has already given Ecuador six Mirage-50 planes it had substituted with more advanced Russian Sukhoi jets. Last year, Ecuador also received three Russian Mi-17 helicopters to carry out defense and patrol missions.

After Moscow talks between President Dmitry Medvedev and Correa on Thursday a contract was signed on the delivery of two Mi-171E helicopters."

This foken clown suggests that the U.S. should give him combat aircraft? He must be chewing the same stuff as Chávez!

A bombshell article in today’s edition of the New York Times lifts the lid on how the brother of Afghan President Hamid Karzai, a suspected kingpin of the country’s booming opium trade, has been on the CIA payroll for the past eight years. However, the article serves as little more than a whitewash because it fails to address the fact that one of the primary reasons behind the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan was the agenda to reinstate the Golden Crescent drug trade.

Desi, the town gossip and self-appointed supervisor of the town's morals, kept sticking her nose into other people's business. Several local residents were unappreciative of her activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence.

However, she made a mistake when she recently accused Robi, a local man, of being an alcoholic after she saw his pickup truck parked outside the town's only bar one afternoon. Robi, a dedicated Christian and man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just walked away without saying a word.

Later that evening, he parked his pickup truck in front of her house and left it there all night.

Her gossiping ceased.

Whenever he must make a difficult decision, Mr. Obama complains it's Bush's fault.

Policy differences, of course, are fair game for sharp debate, and in the end history will apportion the credit and blame due Mr. Bush. By any measure, however, Mr. Obama's ongoing snipes against a predecessor who is no longer involved in setting policy are extraordinary. They are more extraordinary still issuing from a president who campaigned on a promise to transcend the political divisions of the past.By WILLIAM MCGURN

Ridiculous. But what else could you expect from Correa?

Ecuador to Europe: Pay us not to drill in Amazon

QUITO, Ecuador – Ecuador's president is in London this week to promote a unique proposal: pay his country $3 billion not to drill for oil in a pristine Amazon reserve.

Germany and Spain have expressed interest in President Rafael Correa's idea, which environmentalists say could set a precedent in the fight against global warming by lowering the high cost to poor countries of going green.

"This is the first time the government of a major oil-producing country has voluntarily offered to forego lucrative oil extraction in order to help combat climate change," said Dr. Matt Finer, staff scientist for Save America's Forests and author of a study on Correa's initiative.

But Correa's idea is two years old and he has yet to receive a firm cash commitment.

Under the plan, rich countries would pay Ecuador at least half the revenues that the 850 million barrels of heavy crude oil estimated to be in Ecuador's remote Yasuni National Park would be expected to generate over the next 10 years — or about $3 billion.

Ecuador says not drilling for the oil would keep 410 million metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere, a figure that has caught the attention of green-conscious governments in Europe.

But this month, Germany contradicted Ecuador's claims that it had already committed $50 million over 13 years to the initiative.

"The amount of a potential donation and the method and period over which it would be paid have yet to be determined," a German government official told the Associated Press last week in Berlin, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the matter.

The official said Germany supports the idea but its participation is dependent on recruiting other donors and expanding the amount of land protected from development under the initiative.

Correa's proposal would block drilling in three oil fields in Yasuni, but it does not explicitly prohibit development in the rest of the park. It was declared a biosphere reserve by the United Nations and is home to Amazon Indian tribes living in voluntary isolation.

In Ecuador, companies can drill in national parks if a president deems it a matter of national interest.

While Spain is still considering how much to donate, it has already spent $200,000 to help Ecuador set up a fund to implement the project, Spain's top Latin America official, Juan Pablo de Laiglesia, told Ecuador's El Comercio newspaper this month.

Ecuador's foreign minister, Fander Falcon, says the international trust fund will be ready by mid-November. United Nations Development Program spokeswoman Carolina Azevedo said Ecuador has requested technical support to manage the fund.

Ecuador is an OPEC member that depends on oil for a third of its national budget. The three oil fields in Yasuni represent 20 percent of its crude oil reserves.

Correa is scheduled to meet with the British Parliament members Wednesday to discuss the proposal and plans to travel to Canada, France, Sweden, Belgium and the United States in November.

Since I was not allowed to post anymore in CB I have been looking for other like minded people to find a place where we can express our views with anyone who would want to argue with me under civil circumstances. This country was founded on different views being taken seriously and not ridiculed. I have found that all the sites on Colombia have been taken over by extremest left wing individuals who have an agenda and will not discuss stuff on the merit of the discussion. I am a conservative that believes this country is being lead down a path of destruction. I love America and the freedoms that it was founded upon and will fight for my right to express my opinion.

DALLAS — Ernestina Mondragon understood she would have to pay a fine when rookie Dallas police officer ticketed her for making an illegal U-turn.

But it was a ticket he gave her for being a "non-English speaking driver" that she knew had to be wrong.

"I wanted to tell him," Mondragon told The Associated Press in Spanish on Friday. "I couldn't talk back to him out of respect."

Television station WFAA-TV reported that police officials admit ticket was a mistake since no law prohibits people who don't speak English from driving a private vehicle. Dallas police officials plan to discuss the matter later Friday.

Mondragon had been driving her 11-year-old daughter to school on Oct. 2 when Officer Gary Bromley stopped her. She had forgotten her purse with her license in it while darting out the door that morning after her daughter missed the school bus.

 Halloween is coming!

A man is walking home alone late one foggy night...

when behind him he hears:

Bump...

BUMP...

BUMP...

Walking faster, he looks back and through the fog he makes out the image of an upright casket banging its way down the middle of the street toward him.

BUMP...

BUMP...

BUMP...

Terrified, the man begins to run toward his home, the casket bouncing quickly behind him

FASTER...

FASTER...

BUMP...

BUMP...

BUMP...

He runs up to his door, fumbles with his keys, opens the door, rushes in, slams and locks the door behind him.

However, the casket crashes through his door, with the lid of the casket clapping

clappity-BUMP...

clappity-BUMP...

clappity-BUMP...

on his heels, the terrified man runs.

Rushing upstairs to the bathroom, the man locks himself in. His heart is pounding; his head is reeling; his breath is coming in sobbing gasps.

With a loud CRASH the casket breaks down the door.

Bumping and clapping toward him.

The man screams and reaches for something, anything, but all he can find is a bottle of cough syrup!

Desperate, he throws the cough syrup at the casket...

and, The coffin stops

The link for the entire original thread was included in the comment (which is still intact). And then, after the comment was deleted, the thread was closed for further comments.

If one dug through my comments, there are probably posts/comments I wish weren’t there.

But, I seriously doubt that some anonymous mod would swoop down to delete something reposted, that might make me uncomfortable, even after I preached like a born-again sinner.

However, I think is only my second submission to be deleted, and it was admitted the first one was in error.

Is there a PBH'er who has a technology background that can help me with this question, what lubricant would I use to make a nylon guide slide easier on anodized aluminum?
Thanks in advance if you can help.

The decline in Barack Obama's popularity since July has been the steepest of any president at the same stage of his first term for more than 50 years.

Reported instances of two pilots falling asleep are rare but have happened. In August, the safety board concluded its investigation into a February 13, 2008, incident in which two pilots on board a Go airlines flight fell asleep and traveled 26 miles beyond the destination of Hilo, Hawaii, before waking up and contacting air traffic controllers.

Probe of Mexican drug cartel leads to nearly 1,200 arrests in U.S.

"In a series of recent raids throughout the United States, federal authorities have arrested nearly 1,200 people who they say are connected to one of Mexico's most aggressively expanding and deadly drug trafficking cartels, known as La Familia Michoacana, law enforcement officials told The Times' Washington bureau.

At least 300 of the arrests occurred today and Wednesday in California, Texas, Georgia and numerous other U.S. locations where the crime syndicate has set up bases to engage in drug trafficking, extortion and other crimes, authorities said.

The crackdown, dubbed "Project Coronado," was described by one knowledgeable source as the largest single strike in the United States against the Mexican cartels, based on a multi-agency investigation that lasted nearly 3 1/2 years. The source said authorities seized huge amounts of drug, money and evidence that can be used to go after more senior members of La Familia."

THE way Richard Buttrose described cocaine use within his privileged eastern suburbs set, there was barely any difference between drinking wine and snorting a line.

''The circle of friends I mixed in, it's much like having a glass of wine and no one seems to think it's a problem,'' Buttrose told the District Court yesterday as his aunt, the media doyenne Ita Buttrose, looked on from the public gallery. ''I'm not saying this to justify what I did, but in that environment, you don't feel you're doing the wrong thing.''

A top Senate Republican took to the Senate floor Wednesday morning to suggest that the Obama White House is plotting a political strategy similar to that of ex-President Richard Nixon and may be on the verge of preparing its own “enemies list.”
