Is your browser constantly redirecting to websites with overclick.cn in it? I will show you how to easily remove this virus once and for all!

Every time you go to a website, is your browser constantly being redirected to a website with overclick.cn in it such as “http://overclick.cn/gk73….etc” I noticed this especially happens when using Google to search this happened often! Some people were thinking that Google was to blame but it wasn’t Google’s fault Does this sound like a problem you have? Well read on how to remove this pesky nuisance called overclick.cn virus!

1 of my workstations got infected by the blasphemous overclick.cn so I said hey, why not share my experience removing it with others LOL! In my quest to get rid of the overclick.cn virus I have used various tools to get rid of it, such as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite, and other assorted programs but the one that finally did it for me was Combofix. Combofix.exe is a freeware program that doesn’t need installing and runs as is.

Please be aware of fake sites stating you can download Combofix.exe from their website! Always get it from the link I provided to be safe and sure, or you may have a host of other problems besides the overclick.cn virus!

Now enough banter, LOL, Just follow along with my instructions below.

Please leave feedback if this has helped you, thanks

INSTRUCTIONS

Visit Combofix and find the link to download the Combofix.exe, there are two official website links to download it from: Link 1 and Link 2.

Download Combofix it and save it to your desktop.

You have two options, you can run it in regular windows but please shut down any anti-virus and anti-malware programs you have open. The second and best option is to restart computer and run it in safe mode.

Run the Combofix.exe and follow each of the steps. Click yes when it asks about installing the Windows recovery console. This recovery console will help get your computer back if windows fails so you will need to be connected to the internet. If it fails to download, close Combofix.exe and back up your important files if possible and then proceed to run Combofix.exe again and continue running it despite its warnings of not able to download Windows Recovery console and if it still states your antivirus and anti-malware programs are still running in background, I did and my computer still got fixed without error thank goodness! But still…BEWARE! LOL

Be aware while Combofix.exe is running your computer may keep restarting itself, it may also seem like your computer is frozen! It will also disable your internet connection. These are all normal. Just leave it be!

You will know when Combofix.exe is done running when you finally see a log file displayed on your screen detailing what Combofix.exe did. The log file is called log.txt and may open in notepad.

Test your browser and make sure overclick.cn is no longer affecting your computer. In my case the problem was resolved!

Now everything should be working fine and no more nasty overclick.cn virus! Well I hope you all enjoyed my video tutorial “Overclick.cn Virus, How To Remove Easily!”

Any Steps I Should Take When Overclick.cn Is Removed?
Create a restore point on your computer using System restore in case you get infected again you can restore to a previous state. You do that by using this instructions below:

Click Start, point to “All Programs“, point to “Accessories“, point to “System Tools“, and then click “System Restore“.
System Restore now loads up.

On the Welcome to System Restore page, click “Create a restore point“, and then click Next. Now under “Restore point description” give it a name, then click on the “Create” button.

To restore a “System Restore” please visit “How to restore Windows XP to a previous state.”

I would recommend when possible to use Mozilla Firefox with the NoScript extension installed so that sites that hijack your browser using ActiveX and Javascript attacks are thwarted.

When using Internet Explorer visit sites that you are aware are safe such as email web applications and such. For other unknown sites use Mozilla Firefox with the NoScript extension.

Use a good antivirus and firewall to manage the activity between your computer and the internet. I personally use ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite.

In this Video Tutorial You will learn how to easily resize and move a partition on your hard drive with a free tool called EASEUS Partition Master!

When formatting a new hard drive most people are left with just one large empty drive and think nothing of it. In reality most people would like it to be split up! Well no more shall your hard drive be one huge data dump!

Dividing your hard drive into multiple partitions makes computing a bit faster, especially when using a program that uses scratch disk space like Adobe PhotoShop.

Each partition uses a file system to store and name data. The word ‘partition’ is usually associated with one physical drive being split into more than one logical drive when in actuality, every hard drive needs a partition whether or not it’s the full size of the disc.

With this freeware tool EASEUS Partition Master, you will be able to not only create partitions, but you can resize and move partition sizes around! Ready to learn how to partition hard drive easily? Well lets get to it!

INSTRUCTIONS

Download EASEUS Partition Master, install it and launch it.

Watch the video and see the rest of the steps on how to partition your hard drive easily with the freeware tool EASEUS Partition Master and become a master at resizing and moving your hard drive partitions!

To format a hard drive that you recently added to your Microsoft Windows XP computer is not as complicated as you might think.

A lot of people expand their hard drive space with a new a hard drive typically in a USB or e-SATA enclosure. The problem is many people notice when they open up Microsoft Windows Explorer they don’t see their newly attached hard drive! Your like what gives? Don’t fret, your going to use a specialized tool in Microsoft Windows to get this working!

INSTRUCTIONS

Click on Start>Run> type in “compmgmt.msc” and click “OK“.

Then we are in “Computer Management“. Click on “Disk Management” under “Storage” on the left side of the window. A wizard pops up when it detects a new hard drive that’s not formatted.

Follow the wizard and when it is completed the drive to be formatted is initialized. What that means is that it is now ready so we can format hard drive!

The box for the hard drive to be formatted should now have a black bar displaying “Unallocated” under its size. Right click on it and select “New Partition” The New Partition Wizard comes up.

Follow the wizard for that where you can choose your drive letter, volume label (name of drive once we format hard drive), file system (which will be NTFS) and more.

Quick Tip: Don’t do a quick format when you format hard drive. It is best to do a full format for all new drives that are new additions.

You will know when the format of hard drive is done when under the size of the drive changes from “Formatting” to “Healthy“” and the name and drive letter you chose for the new drive is displayed.

Your formatted drive will now show up in your Microsoft Windows XP explorer and be recognized by Microsoft Windows XP

Disable Windows Security Center Popup once and for all! It is supposed to be a safety measure but I think swimming in shark infested waters with ground beef covering your body will be more safe than Windows could ever be, at any rate lets continue LOL.

Tired of being nagged by the your computer might be at risk balloon popup in Windows XP? Why must Microsoft taunt me just because I want to disable my Windows Firewall and / or Automatic Updates. Ok the Anti-Virus Software I can understand LOL. But its weird because Microsoft Windows Automatic Updates can be a virus in itself (Windows not loading due to a Microsoft Windows Automatic Update sound familiar? LOL)

Well lets get down and dirty and disable our Your computer might be at risk popup and I will show you two ways to completely disable Windows Security Center popup in Windows XP.

INSTRUCTIONS

First Way:

Open up your control panel, Start Button>Control Panel and then open the icon that says Security Center.

On the left side of the Security Center window, you will see a resources section. Click the bottom link that states Change the way Security Center alerts me.

You can disable all the alerts here by clicking and removing all the check boxes. If you want to be selective then uncheck just what you want.

Now you have disable windows security center popup and its annoying your computer might be at risk popup notification!

Second Way:

Open the Run Command by clicking Start
Button>Run

Type in minus quotes: “Services.msc“; Click OK.

Scroll and look for Security Center on the right side. When found double-click it to open.

Under Startup type select Disabled or Manual in the drop-down menu.

Under Service Status click on the Stop button.

Click Apply and then click OK.

In this video tutorial I will how you how to easily open RAR and ZIP files without spending a dime on software!

There are two most popular formats for compacted / archived files and they are RAR and ZIP. I got a few inquiring minds asking me how to open RAR and ZIP files so I decided to create a video tutorial on it.

Now there are a myriad of programs out there to handle these popular file formats but I like to, when possible offer good free solutions of applications. Most of the File compression and extraction programs are shareware and cost a fee but we have a solution that isnt.

I love a lean program that’s not large in size and doesn’t take up so much RAM and resources. Today’s application will be no different. It is called 7-Zip! It is the best free file archive and extractor I have ever used to open RAR and ZIP files.

Follow the video and see why 7-Zip is the best tool to open RAR and ZIP files!

Downloads Needed:

7-Zip

INSTRUCTIONS

Download 7-Zip

Run the install file and choose the install directory of your choice.

Right-click the archive file(s) you want to extract and choose the 7-Zip option and choose how you want to extract the files.

Now watch the video as I show you how various ways to open RAR and ZIP files, such as multipart, password, in directory, created directory and etc.

More information:

Words from the 7-Zip Creator Igor Pavlov:

7-Zip Official Page

7-Zip is a open source file compactor and extractor. The main features of 7-Zip are:

High compression ratio in new 7z format with LZMA compression

Supported formats:

Packing / unpacking: 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR
Unpacking only: ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, DEB, DMG, HFS, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MSI, NSIS, RAR, RPM, UDF, WIM, XAR and Z.

For ZIP and GZIP formats, 7-Zip provides a compression ratio that is 2-10 % better than the ratio provided by PKZip and WinZip.

Strong AES-256 encryption in 7z and ZIP formats.

Self-extracting capability for 7z format.

Integration with Windows Shell.

Powerful File Manager.

Powerful command line version.

Localizations for 74 languages.

7-Zip works in Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista. There is a port of the command line version to Linux/Unix.

What Is A RAR File?
RAR is a file format for file compression, similar to ZIP files. RAR files are compacted archives. An archive in this situation means the file may contain one or more files or folders, much like folders on your hard drive. Compacted means that files have been reduced so that the size of the archive may be much smaller than the size of the files it contains.

In simpler terms, RAR files are a space saving way of storing single files or groups of related files.

RAR files are a derivative of the Zip compression method invented by a Russian programmer Eugene Roshal (hence the name, Roshal Archive.) The RAR format compresses typically around 8 to 30 per cent smaller than Zip archives.

Improvements of the RAR file format over ZIP files include redundancy, which enables damaged archives to be repaired. RAR also supports international character sets, which allows files with non-English filenames to be stored. This gives the RAR format international appeal.

Unlike ZIP, no computer operating system has built-in support to open RAR files. The best free way to open RAR files on Windows is 7-Zip.

What Is A ZIP File?
Zip files are compacted archives. An archive in this situation means the file may contain one or more files or folders, much like folders on your hard drive. Compacted means that files have been reduced so that the size of the archive may be much smaller than the size of the files it contains. ZIP is the name given to the compression technique originally developed by Phil Katz. It is one of the most popular formats albeit not the best compacter of files out there.

In simpler terms, Zip files are a space saving way of storing single files or groups of related files.

Zip files are used because they take up less space to store, and take less time to send or download. They are also a very convenient way to package and send groups of related files. However, the files must be extracted or unzipped from the archive before they can be used. Although some Zip / Unzip applications make it look as though you can open a file directly from a Zip file, in fact they must extract a copy of the file to a temporary storage area and open this temporary copy. Windows cannot open a file or run a program directly from a Zip file.

What Is File Compression?
File compression is a way of making one or more files into a single package that is usually way smaller than the original files.

An example is that you wanted to e-mail a folder full of files to your friend. Instead of attaching the whole folder and all its files to your message as an attachment, you could compress the folder into one archive file and send it away to your friend. You’ll send the e-mail faster due to smaller file size and your friend will download it quicker.

The free font manager is called AMP Font Viewer. It is a small program with BIG features. You can install fonts of course but the cool thing is you can install fonts temporarily! This feature is great in AMP Font Viewer font manager especially when you don’t want to install a font you will not be using much! This frees up your font memory in windows.

Another cool feature of this free font manager is to view folders of fonts, installed or not all while having the ability to search for fonts at the same time! If you know a piece of the fonts name you don’t have to go scrolling through to find it!

Well enough chatter, please watch the video and be on your way to using the best free font manager I have ever used, AMP Font View.

Don’t be shy!! Please leave feedback, THANKS!

AMP Font Viewer Official Page

This program is an easy to use but powerful font manager, which allows getting a quick overview of both installed and non installed fonts. It can install and uninstall fonts, and organize them in categories. Some of its features are:

Supports TrueType and OpenType fonts.

Supports Type1 fonts.

Installation of fonts from a folder (one by one or from a list).

Installation of fonts temporally (until the program is closed).

Deletion of installed fonts.

List of all installed fonts with several display options.

List of the fonts from a folder with several display options.

Several options for organizing fonts in categories and managing them.

It can print a list of all or some of the installed fonts with an example of each font.

Scratchpad area for testing the look of any font (installed or from a folder).

Dual English/Spanish version.

Note for users of Windows Vista:

Windows Vista comes by default with tighter security settings, blocking some actions like installing fonts permanently. If you have problems installing fonts, locate the AMP Font Viewer shortcut in the Start Menu, right-click it and select Properties from the popup menu. Then go to the compatibility tab and check “Run this program as an administrator” (you may be asked to enter an administrator password). After this, you can install fonts like in other versions of Windows.

Why You Should Manage Fonts?
Managing fonts can be a bit of a burden but that’s where font managers come in. There are a tons of them out there but most cost money and if your not a professional designer then there is no need to purchase these software from $50 and up especially when you have a great free font manager such as AMP Font Viewer!

A good reason to manage fonts is because if too many are simply copied to your font folder in Windows it will eat up your memory and they will stay there until you shut down your computer hogging (oink oink) your precious memory!

The only fonts that should be in the system folder are the ones put there by installers. Some applications need certain fonts to work properly.

I recommend you create a folder on your computer where you will store all your downloaded fonts. I have all mines separated into sub folders which are categorized so its easier for me to find a certain style of font I want to use, such as dingbats, cursive, non-serif and more!

More information:

Words from the PureText Creator Steve Miller:

Have you ever copied some text from a web page or a document and then wanted to paste it as simple text into another application without getting all the formatting from the original source? PureText makes this simple by adding a new Windows hot-key (default is WINDOWS+V) that allows you to paste text to any application without formatting.

After running PureText.exe, you will see a “PT” tray icon appear near the clock on your task bar. You can click on this icon to remove formatting from the text that is currently on the clipboard. You can right-click on the icon to display a menu with more options.

The easiest way to use PureText is to simply use its hot-key to paste text instead of using the standard CTRL+V hot-key that is built into most Windows applications. To configure PureText, right-click on its tray icon and choose “Options” from the pop-up menu. The default hot-key is WINDOWS+V, but this can be changed. In this Options window, you can also configure PureText to run each time you log into Windows.

What PureText Will and Will Not Do:

PureText only removes rich formatting from text. This includes the font face, font style (bold, italics, etc.), font color, paragraph styles (left/right/center aligned), margins, character spacing, bullets, subscript, superscript, tables, charts, pictures, embedded objects, etc. However, it does not modify the actual text. It will not remove or fix new-lines, carriage returns, tabs, or other white-space. It will not fix word-wrap or clean up your paragraphs. If you copy the source code of a web page to the clipboard, it is not going to remove all the HTML tags. If you copy text from an actual web page (not the source of the page), it will remove the formatting.

PureText is basically equivalent to opening Notepad, doing a PASTE, followed by a SELECT-ALL, and then a COPY. The benefit of PureText is performing all these actions with a single Hot-Key and having the result pasted into the current window automatically.

Want to know how to back up and restore your Mozilla Firefox profile? Well this video tutorial will show you how!

You will also learn how to return your backed up profile to your existing Mozilla Firefox installation or fresh install of Mozilla Firefox.

INSTRUCTIONS

Backing Up Mozilla Firefox Profile:

Open your Mozilla Firefox.

To prep your Firefox for backing it up, we will clear the private data which contains temporary internet files, cookies, and more. By pressing CTRL+SHIFT+DELETE simultaneously.

Now we will close Mozilla Firefox by clicking File>Exit.

We will now find our Mozilla Firefox profile folder. For me it is in C:\Documents
and Settings\HP_Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles; For windows users, to find yours, find the drive you have windows installed then do a search in Windows Explorer for “Profiles” no quotes. For Mac users, do a search for “Profiles” as well, and when you see it located in a Firefox folder, that’s what you will then open.

Now we copy our profile, and can back it up to another folder where we can burn it to a CD or DVD.

Restoring Backed Up Mozilla Firefox Profile:

Have a fresh install or Mozilla Firefox installed.

Lets take for example we have taken our backed up Firefox profile from a CD or DVD and copied it to our desktop, for this example lets name it ff-backup.

We now want to be able to run this Mozilla Firefox profile, so we will have to open up the Mozilla Firefox profile manager to familiarize our self with it.

To load the Mozilla Firefox profile manager we go to: start menu> run> then type in:firefox.exe -ProfileManager; now we press OK. Now we know how to get to the Mozilla Firefox profile manager so now we can exit it.

We will now need to go to where we have Firefox installed, we will manually edit the file that deals with the Mozilla Firefox profile manager to show us what profiles we can run.

For me it is in C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Application
Data\Mozilla\Firefox\ ; use the method to find your profiles to find this folder as well from the Backing Up Firefox step 4.

Locate the profiles.ini file, and open it with a text editor like notepad.

We are now going to add our backed up Mozilla Firefox profile called ff-backup to our Mozilla Firefox profile manager inside the profiles.ini file. We will now edit a few things to load our Mozilla Firefox backup folder ff-backup.

Set IsRelative=1 to IsRelative=0 since its not inside the C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\ folder. We then place the path of our Mozilla Firefox backup folder ff-backup which in my case will be C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Desktop\ff-backup.
Save the profiles.ini file.

Run Mozilla Firefox and test to see if we have all of our settings and extensions from our backup folder ff-backup!

Don’t be shy!! Please leave feedback, THANKS!
