Joe "Shooting Star" Starr, former South Central Sectional Commander, has gone home

It is with great sadness that I bring you the news of the passing of yet another great and dedicated Royal Ranger commander. Joseph Thomas Starr, age 74, went home to be with the Lord, October 15, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 27, 1935 in Mercersburg, Pa to Ferris and Nellie (Timmons) Starr. He was married to Doris Guyer on April 5, 1958. Joseph was retired from the US Army Reserves. He was employed as a supervisor at W.D. Byron & Sons in Williamsport, MD and Loewengart & Co. in Mercersburg, Pa. Joseph is a member of St Thomas Assembly of God church in St Thomas where he served as a Royal Ranger Leader and Sectional Commander.

Joseph is survived by his wife Doris of fifty one years and his daughters: Kimberly S. Hand (husband Robert) and Karen P. Miller (husband Christopher). He is also survived by his brothers: Ferris, Roy and Merle Starr and his sister: Rebecka Gordon, his grandsons: Jeremy & Corey Hand, step grandson Shaun Miller and step great granddaughter: Kimberly Miller. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded by his parents Ferris & Nellie M. Starr, a brother John Starr, sister Ruth DeLauder and a grandson Anthony Kerlin.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Monday, October 19, 2009 at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., 6492 Lincoln Way West, St Thomas, Pa., with the Rev. Alvin Hezlep officiating. Viewing will be held from 6-8 pm, Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment will be held at Parklawn Memorial Gardens Chambersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Assembly of God Church at 173 Rhondel Drive, St. Thomas, PA 17252. Final 2009 Workday - Oct. 31st

The PDRR Camp has scheduled one final workday for this year on Saturday, October 31^st, starting at 8:00 a.m. It was not on the original schedule, but because of some important work to be done we felt a need to schedule one last workday. Herman and George have recently been at the camp installing drain pipe in low areas that hold water and still have some more to complete. This will greatly improve the drainage on the property and help eliminate soft areas. All of the trenches dug so far have been backfilled, but need to be leveled and graded due to settlement and rough backfilling. Please bring rakes and shovels to help do this work. Also, bring weed whackers and trimmers for trees as we have to clean up around the house and property this fall so that we are not inundated come spring. We also want to put in some posts or poles and need help with those. Lastly, if we have ample help, we want to get a coat of sealer on all the picnic tables to help preserve them. The birds are hitting them pretty good under the pavilion and they need protection.

Please distribute this e-mail in your sections and to all the FCFer’s. This is a great opportunity for FCFer’s to gain service points. None of this is hard work, just hard to make the decision to come do it.

News from the National Director

Here’s a great quote by Theologian John Owen (1616-1683): “However strong a castle may be, if a treacherous party resides inside (ready to betray at the first opportunity possible), the castle cannot be kept safe from the enemy. Traitors occupy our own hearts, ready to side with every temptation and to surrender to them all.”

This reminds me of the admonition in Proverbs 4:23, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” The traitors within can’t be wished away; they must be forced out by intimacy with Jesus so there is no room left for anything but Christ.

We are in ministry to future men. Let us model authentic, manly intimacy with Jesus, for it is in that very relationship we discover our true identity as men—being like Christ.

Let’s show men and boys how to force the traitors within, out!

2010 National Council & Conference Will Be AWESOME! March 11-13, 2010 • Springfield, MO

Here is some important information about National Council 2010. Full details will become available in October.

Ø On Wednesday, March 10, 2010 (the day before Council), we will meet from 8:00-10:00 a.m. with everyone holding a regional or national position. District directors are encouraged to attend also. Then, by popular demand, we will meet again with district directors from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Action teams, such as Training, FCF, etc., will meet during this time as well. The outreach coordinators will also gather for the first time at Council; district directors, prayerfully make this appointment before then.

Ø Thursday and Friday, March 11-12, 2010, we will conduct the first Organizational Leadership Seminar. We strongly encourage every organizational leader at the area, sectional, divisional, district, regional, and national level to attend. We will also have important national updates, regional and functional breakaways, and special activities for the ladies.

Ø Saturday, March 13, 2010, we will offer Ranger Essentials. This will be the transition module for those who have already completed the LMA. Ranger Essentials will run all day until around 5:00 p.m., which is similar to previous years that training updates were released. Scheduling it Saturday affords two benefits: 1) We can model how you are to offer it in your district; and 2) Leaders who wouldn’t normally attend Council (Thursday-Friday) may attend, such as instructors and outpost commanders in your district.

In light of the value Council 2010 will add to the leaders in your district, please encourage as many as possible to attend the Seminar and/or Rangers Essentials.

Sync-up With God’s Heart

The heartbeat of any ministry is always primarily the lost. Royal Rangers is no different. By participating in BGMC and Speed the Light giving in your district, you are enabling missionaries in the U.S. and around the world to reach the lost and disciple them into lifelong followers of Jesus Christ. Approximately $50,000 has already been given to the Master’s Toolbox this year, putting us half way to our $100k pledge. We still need to raise $35,000 for the STL/RR Christmas Project. Continue to challenge the men and boys in your district to be active in winning the lost around the world!

Congratulations are in order for one of our own Penn-Del District staff. Jason Loffredo has been appointed to serve as the Production Committee Field Advisor for our National staff. This is an important position and he will serve a 2 year term. His hard work, enthusiasm and love for doing productions have shown up on the radar at the National office and they have tapped a great resource. He will continue to serve as our District Productions Coordinator and on the Regional staff as well. Penn-Del Royal Ranger Commanders are always ready and willing to serve. Way to go Jason.

Rich Dibble Goes Home

On August 6^th, at 12:20 AM this morning, Rich Dibble lost his bout with cancer and went home to be with the Lord. The viewing will be Friday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Mascho Funeral Home on 75 Kennedy Street in Bradford, PA. (814) 368-8296. Long's Store Suffers Tragic Fire (East Waterford, PA

Commanders and Outposts, please be aware that Long’s Store in East Waterford, PA, had a serious fire in May and will be closed during our District Powwow. Please plan accordingly with regard to your supplies, food purchases and ice. There is another small store that is approximately 1 mile north of Honey Grove along Route 75. You turn left where Route 850 meets Route 75 in Honey Grove and head back toward Port Royal. They have some food and supplies and can accommodate us. Also, there is a gas station in East Waterford about ¼ mile north of where Long’s Store was that has ice for sale.

PDRR Camp Work Day

This Saturday, June 6^th, is our last workday prior to District Powwow. It has been on our calendar and advertised since May 2008. I’m sure many have written it off or scheduled over it; however, we need your help at the camp to get things done and to prepare for our District Powwow. Please send this notice out to all your leaders and outposts in your section to rally support and attendance. Lunch will be provided. Work will start on or before 8:00 am and finish when we get done what needs to be done. Most likely we will all be out of there by 4:00 pm.

Below is a partial list of work items we are looking to get accomplished. The items that get done will depend largely upon the number of people that show up. I know that there are the usual persons that we can count on. Can we count on you? Bring tools to accomplish the tasks.

The next scheduled work day at the camp is June 6th. Below is a list of some of the work that needs to be completed. There is always more. Your help is needed and appreciated.

PDRR Camp work day - June 6th

'To Do' list:

1. Barn roof needs patched where bullet pierced the metal.

2. Weed whacking around house and barn and along drainage ditch. Weed whacking and preparation of Expedition Rangers area and obstacle course. Cut down tall weeds around Brockmeyer pavilion.

3. Loose concrete in the bottom of the barn needs cleaned up.

4. Complete drain line from sink in General Store to ditch. (In progress)

5. Clean-up and organize top and lower floors of barn.

6. Install additional outlets in General Store.

7. Install chain link fencing in upper portion of barn for secure storage area.

8. Install wire cable on beams in upper portion of barn to reinforce barn support system.

9. Complete installation of windows in end of barn basement. (In progress)

10. Clean out water storage tank.

Good morning Commanders.

I'm sure there is plenty to be worked on for this work day.
As Expedition Coordinator I have to be concerned about getting the obstacle course ready for the pow wow as well as finishing the obstacle course. We have 6 - 24 foot telephone poles up at Ron Kroptavitch's church in Scranton. To complete the obstacle course we need to get them down to Camp Berry and secured into the ground.
I would assume that flooding and rain have degraded the obstacles that we have in place. So aside from the work load that the normal workday has there is a lot of work to get this course ready.
I'm open to suggestions as to how to get the telephone poles to the camp.
Also I would love to hear from any of you that could help with the course so that I have an idea of how many will be available. Making 6 - 24 foot telephone poles vertical will take a lot of hands. Also we will need a way of getting to the top of them once they are in the ground to secure 2 - 4X4X14's from one to the other
I don't want to take away from volunteers that the general work day will need.
If the scheduled Saturday is going to be a rainy day then it would be better to have the obstacle course work done on either the 13th or 20th. Point is, we need dry weather to get these structures securely in place.

Also at this time I want to make sure activity coordinators are a go for the powwow: Please give me a yell back confirming you are on board.

James Daniel Dempsey Passing

Greetings,

My name is Daniel Dempsey, and I have some bad news for the Royal Rangers community. My father, James Daniel Dempsey recently passed away, and I don't think anyone had let the rangers outside his outpost know.

His life was Royal Rangers. He was a commander for over 30 years, probably more like 35 years, in many outposts. He devoted his life to the rangers, full time, and it was undoubtedly his calling and he took it very seriously. I am honored to say that I was raised in outposts that my father was involved in. I know he was solely responsible for the success of every outpost he was involved in. I have seen my dad pressure a church to start rangers; he would help them get it started and do everything he could to get it on its feet and after we would leave a few years later we would hear that that a booming program with dozens of boys went down hill and was stopped. It is unfortunate, but now I see how much God worked through him in this ministry and that often without his hands in it the outposts they would fail. He was a special tool for the Lord.

My father was also very active in FCF; his name was Iron Horse, for his love of trains. He had met and communed with many of the founding members of rangers, like Johnny barns, who gave him a hand carved powder horn. He must have seen something in my father.

I can not possibly list all the events and things my father was involved while a ranger commander (although the 1000+ patches can say a thing or two), but it was his job on earth and he was never confused about his purpose which was leading boys to Christ and making a better future for all. Rangers had a priority over his day job, or any other job or event for that matter. He would miss weddings for camp out's!!! I'll bet that you can count how many commanders there are in the world like my dad on one hand. I promise you that.

I think it only fair that for someone who devoted his life to the lord in this ministry that we memorialize him somehow, if it be only a page in your news letter. It was his life; everything he did was for the rangers. He deserves it and I will donate whatever I must so that other commanders and young men can be inspired by my father. Rangers was his life, and I can only imagine how many of his boys were there to great him when he went to be with the Lord.

Please, pass this on to someone who can help me let every ranger know about my dad. I guarantee there are a few old timers out there who will shed a tear when they hear the iron horse stopped running. I felt led to inform the national office, and I trust this will go to the right hands. Thank you.

Re: Campsite & Uniform Inspection at District Powwow

Good morning Commanders.

Last years Powow was my first attempt at overseeing these the campsite and uniform inspection. The end results were less than satisfactory. We owe it to the boys and the commanders to conduct these events in a precise professional manner. To achievement this aim we need to start getting on the same page as soon as we can as a judging staff.
To that end, I would like to request that each Section Commander obtain one volunteer (ideally I would like that volunteer to be you) from their respective section to serve as an inspector for the Powow. This should not be looked at as a grunt job, but rather as an Honor Detail.
For individuals to judge any event fairly they need to be on the same page with their fellow judges. To do this on a consistent basis means that our judges need to spend some time preparing. We all need to know what is average, below average, and above average as far as the campsite inspection goes.
On the uniform inspection we need to know what to look at and look for.
I would love to sit down with this team for a few minutes at the March District Leaders Conference.
Please get this communication out and perceive this leadership need with a heart of service.

New National FCF President

Congratulations to Paul “Grey Owl” Walters on his appointment as National FCF President. Paul will take over the reigns from the current FCF president, Jim Rounsville, following the March 2009 National Royal Rangers Council in Springfield, MO. Jim Rounsville served as President for 4 years and Vice President for 2 years. Jim states that “Paul has proven his dedication and heart for the Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship and to Royal Rangers.” National Commander Doug Marsh has also endorsed Paul Walters’s capabilities to become the next National FCF President. Paul has been very instrumental in helping to make many of the recent changes and improvements in the current FCF ministry and is excited about the opportunities and the challenges that are ahead. It is an honor to have our fellow Ranger and brother from the Penn-Del District serve at this level. Please keep him in your prayers and send him a note of encouragement. Also keep Jim Rounsville in your prayers as well as he transitions into a new area of ministry.

Chris Hamilton Earns Regional Ranger of the Year Honors

The 2007-2008 Ranger of the Year Competition is over and it was a big success and went out with a bang. Chris Hamilton, Penn-Del District, OP #311, Johnston Christian Fellowship, Johnstown, PA earned top honors in the Northeast Region as an Expedition Ranger and is the 2007-2008 Regional Ranger of the Year. Please visit the Penn-Del District webpage http://www.pdrangers.org/roty/ to review the results and levels achieved by our other boys from the district that participated in the Regional ROTY. Thank you to all the boys that participated and to all leaders that assisted with the ROTY. As you recall, it was mentioned at the District RT, this was the last District and Regional ROTY evaluation for at least 5 years. We will keep you posted as we get any updates on the future of the ROTY.

New SCW Sectional Commander

After nearly 7 years as the South Central West Sectional Commander, John Bender has turned over the reigns to Cmdr. Gary Gerould of Outpost 311, Greater Johnstown Christian Fellowship, Johnstown, PA. Gary has been involved in the Royal Rangers for the last 17 years and has been the Senior Commander for OP 311 for the last 15 years and served as Area Commander and Training Coordinator for the SCW Section for the last 6 years. Gary brings a lot of experience to the position and has the respect of men and boys alike. He is a welcomed addition to our staff and we look forward to working with him and helping him in his endeavors.

John Bender Steps Down, But Not Out

After nearly 7 years as the South Central West Sectional Commander, John Bender has turned over the reigns to Cmdr. Gary Gerould of Outpost 311, Greater Johnstown Christian Fellowship, Johnstown, PA. John is not; however, stepping out of the Royal Rangers. He is simply relinquishing his post so that he can spend more time nourishing his own outpost and spending time with his young family. John has been a key member of our district staff over the years helping us to develop many areas of our ministry and will continue as the president of the GMAA and Senior Commander for his Outpost. He has done an outstanding job in his position and mentoring our young boys. He will also continue working with the PDJLTA helping to develop training camps and providing valuable input to the training camps staff.

National Royal Rangers Ministry

—New Staff Appointments—

As many of you know, the Lord saw fit to take Perry Siddle home last October after a valiant battle with cancer. This left his position as national training coordinator vacant. The last months have been devoted to praying and seeking divine leading to place this charge in the hands of the man in God’s mind and heart, and I believe the Lord has provided direction.

Today, I am pleased to announce that Steve Schultz has agreed to assume the position of national training coordinator, effective immediately. With Steve assuming this post, he is vacating his current position, which involves junior leadership development, administrative oversight of the office, event planning, and oversight of Camp Eagle Rock personnel and operations.

As he vacates his current position, we are introducing a shift that we intended to make within the next two years anyway. That shift is to combine adult and junior training into one portfolio. As Steve steps into the role of national training coordinator, it will include both adult and junior leadership development.

The next question, then, is who will replace Steve? The Lord has directed Jim Allen to accept these responsibilities as the national administrative & events coordinator. In this position, Jim will provide day-to-day oversight of the office operations and national team projects, take the lead role in coordinating national events, serve as the office budget coordinator, and assume oversight of the personnel, operations, and marketing of Camp Eagle Rock. Jim will assume these duties on February 9.

I want to thank Steve and Jim for accepting these great challenges and congratulate them! Would you take a moment to become better acquainted with each of these men by reading their bios that follow and dropping them an encouraging note? I know they would really appreciate it. We anticipate a smooth transition as Steve assumes his new duties and releases current responsibilities to Jim between mid-February and the end of May, but would you pray for God to give them wisdom and strength? Also, would you make it a daily habit to pray for the entire national team? We are all deeply honored to serve you because together we are evangelizing, equipping, and empowering the next generation of Christlike men and lifelong servant leaders!

Bio—Steve Schultz, National Training Coordinator (sschultz@ag.org)

Steve Schultz came to the national office from Southern California in April 2001 with his wife, Barbara, and daughter, Jessica. He has a married daughter, living in St. Joseph, Missouri and a married son, living in Orange County, California. He enjoys sports, the outdoors, woodworking, reading, playing games, and spending time with his friends and family.

Steve began his ministry in Royal Rangers in October 1979. He has served in many positions at the outpost, sectional, and regional levels before joining the national team. Steve has been on staff at numerous district and national camps throughout the nation. He has served as a certified instructor and instructor trainer in the Southern California and Southern Missouri districts. He joined the Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship in 1984 and is a Wilderness member. He enjoys working with people and partnering with leaders to evangelize, equip, and empower the next generation of Christlike men and lifelong servant leaders.

Jim Allen stepped into Royal Rangers leadership in 1992. He has served in various capacities at the local, divisional, and district levels, including Indiana district commander from October 2003-April 2007. He has devoted himself to advancing in his Royal Rangers training program, is a certified instructor trainer, and is active in the Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship as a Buckskin member. Jim has served on the board at his local area Big Brother Big Sister agency for the past five years, the last year as president. He is currently a Discovery Rangers commander at First Assembly of God in Lafayette, Indiana where he attends with his family.

Jim has earned a Master’s of Business Administration from Webster University and has eighteen years of business executive leadership, the last eleven in banking. Jim and his wife, Rachel, are the proud parents of three children: Gabriel (6), Victoria (3), and Brianna (1).

Fellow Penn-Del Royal Ranger Leaders:

It’s not too early to start planning for the 2009 Regional Leaders Conference, which is just around corner. The dates are January 23-24, 2009. Registration will be available online soon at www.northeastregion.org.

They have selected a new and improved location for the 2009 Leaders Conference! The response to the change of venue last year was very positive and we had outstanding attendance. The Region also had some challenging issues to deal with regarding the facilities and felt it would be beneficial to make another move. The Conference will be held at Fountain of Life Center in Burlington, New Jersey. This beautiful Assemblies of God facility is located on 106 acres and they will have adequate space for seminars, exhibits and our meals. Lodging will be available at nearby hotels.

The goals and purpose of the Regional Leaders Conference remain the same. You will find opportunity to receive excellent training; there will be plenty of time for fellowship with others; and you will be blessed spiritually with the Word of God and Praise & Worship. We as leaders need God’s anointing on our ministry as we reach boys for Christ. We also need training and inspiration to help us be relevant and effective to the iPod generation of Rangers.

We trust that you will make plans to join our District at the Leaders Conference in 2009. For those who have never been to the Conference, please consider making this the year that you invest in your ministry and invest in the Kingdom. The speaker will be Rev. Doug Clay. Rev. Clay serves as the general treasurer for the General Council of the Assemblies of God. As one of the four corporate officers of the Assemblies of God, Clay oversees the Division of the Treasury, which is responsible for handling all the finances sent to the national office for the world ministries of the Church. He brings a clear vision and strong passion for church health. With this passion comes a direct commitment to develop ministry leaders to reach their potential. Prior to his election as general treasurer, Doug served as the superintendent of the Ohio District Council from 2004-2008. He pastored Calvary Assembly of God in Toledo, Ohio, from 1997-2004.

Prayer Request: Dwight Walter's Mother-In_Law

God has blessed me with the honor & privilege of getting to know a large number of friends who are strong, Bible believing Christian brothers and sisters. I am calling on you today to intercede for my mother-in-law, Bonnie Allen.

Just over 2 weeks ago I was at the Christiana Hospital in Delaware listening to Doctors tell the family that cancer had invaded her body and is at stage IV. This all happened in the past 4 months, when she visited the Dr. at the end of a bout with breast cancer and everything seemed fine. She is home now and in very critical condition with the Doctors giving up hope. It was less than 3 years ago that Bonnie's 34 yr. daughter Hope passed away from colon cancer. My dad pointed out to me that just like the Apostle Paul states below in the scripture from Philippians, Bonnie realizes that for her to die is gain – and she is certainly ready to meet Jesus and Hope in heaven. But just like Paul also – even though it was his desire to be with God immediately, God had more for him to do on this earth and more lives to touch for His Kingdom. If this is God's will (and that is my prayer) for Bonnie, I know God can and will heal her physical body of this cancer.

Teach us to care, to give, to serve, knowing that the lives and eternal destinies of others are at stake. May we each live as mediators – presenting the needs and requests of others to You and in turn extending Your hand of grace, forgiveness, healing and provision to those who need Your help. Amen. Where's My High Adventure???

Have you been wondering about the status of your High Adventure magazine? Have you noticed that an issue hasn't mailed since the winter 2007 issue? Well wonder no longer because here's the scoop.

In an effort to constantly improve the value of Royal Rangers to boys and leaders in the field many aspects of the ministry have been reviewed and are in the process of revision, including the High Adventure magazine.

For many years the High Adventure magazine has been produced in two editions: one for boys and one for leaders. Although this format had some advantages, it also included limitations. By producing one edition for all boys, Kindergarten though High School, the constant challenge was to produce a magazine that would appeal to such a broad age range of boys. Subjects that may be appealing to older boys may be completely irrelevant to boys in our younger groups, and vice versa. The overall value of the magazine to boys was therefore always limited.

For this reason, after much review, the decision was made to replace the magazine with a new publication entitled Rangers NOW which will be produced in five separate editions, one for each age group as well as one for leaders. This publication will be produced annually in the fall of each year to coincide with the new school year. The first edition will mail in late fall of 2008 and will be followed each year by a new issue each fall.

It is the ongoing effort of the national office to produce resources that will best met the needs of the local outposts in their efforts to reach, teach, and keep boys for Christ.

Perry David Siddle
August 3, 1958 – October 10, 2008

It is with great sorrow I write to announce that Perry David Siddle (50), our esteemed national Royal Rangers training coordinator, was called home to be with the Lord early Friday morning, October 10, 2008, in Springfield, Missouri after a sudden yet valiant fight against cancer.

Perry joined the national team in June 2007 after serving as a Royal Rangers commander at First Assembly of God in Augusta, Georgia, on the Georgia district staff, and on the Southwest Region staff for many years. Like so many of our leaders, Perry was a model of godly manhood. He loved God most, was fully invested in the wellbeing of his family, and worked a job to support his family and underwrite his involvement in the ministries of this Church. As national training coordinator, Perry was diligent, effective, and always cheerful.

I first met Perry in 2002 when he was called upon to spend a few weeks at the national office working on some writing assignments. I quickly learned of his great love for missions. Years later Perry would challenge his district to raise missions funds for Royal Rangers International, suggesting that he would eat dog food if the goal they were aiming for was met. And, yes, as promised, he ate the dog food! He always quipped that the experience made his hair more shinny. Perry knew how to set worthy goals and rally others to help reach them.

As a member of the national Royal Rangers team, Perry was a go-to-guy; he always completed things with excellence. The plans designed for the future of Royal Rangers training have been thoughtfully and wisely established. The contribution Perry made in just one year will influence Royal Rangers all across the nation for decades!

Perry’s greatest contribution has been in leaders. He knew that before we can reach a boy we must reach a man. Preparing men to evangelize, equip, and empower the next generation of Christlike men and lifelong servant leaders was one of Perry’s greatest ministerial joys. Perry’s investment will endure because he lived his life’s motto found in 2 Corinthians 4:18, “Don’t fix your eyes on what is seen but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary but what is unseen is eternal.”

We will all miss Perry’s friendliness and cheerfulness. Even while suffering pain in his hospital room, Perry would smile and refer to himself as Future Escapee ###-2 (his room and bed number). He fully intended to fight and beat his cancer with a great attitude.

Perry loved sweets as anyone who was around him long found out. During one long staff meeting, Perry laid Hershey Kisses on the table in the form of a Royal Rangers emblem, humorously chastising anyone who dared eat one of them. While he knew the importance of our mission, he always injected appropriate humor into the mix.

Perry is survived by his wife and fellow Ranger Kids commander, Lisa, whom he married on July 10, 1982. Together they were blessed with three beautiful daughters: Heather (22), Natasha (1) and Michaela (11). They are an exemplary family—fully devoted to the Lord, His cause, and to one another. Please stand with Lisa and the girls in prayer during this time of loss.

Visitation and service arrangements will be announced shortly.

It has been said that you don’t appreciate what you have until you lose it. In Perry’s case, we knew and valued who he was all along. Perry was an authentic follower of Christ, a devoted husband and father, and a highly motivated Royal Rangers leader. We have lost and will miss Perry, but we will never forget his example.

Next work day is October 23-24. Work still needs to be done at the camp for this year. We have decided, in an effort to save you an extra trip to the camp, to schedule a work day(s) in conjunction with the Fall Trace. Anyone that can possibly come up early on Thursday and work on Thursday and Friday or come up early Friday and work it would be extremely helpful. Those that will not be part of the Trace are welcome to work on Saturday as well. FCFer's, we are counting on you. Let's see some new faces this time to work on YOUR camp. Please bring your own food to make that aspect easier on the camp staff.

Norman D. Kuhenbeaker Passing

It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of one of our fellow Royal Rangers, Norm Kuhenbeaker, age 74. Norm passed away at 2:00 A.M., Saturday, August 2, 2008 in the nursing home. He was in the nursing home for about 5 weeks.

Norm was in Rangers from 1963 – 1985 and served as a senior commander and training coordinator in our district for many years. He will be missed; however, we can rejoice knowing that he is now with his Lord and savior. Please be in prayer for his wife, Lois, and family during this difficult time.

There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 and 390 in Paradise Valley, 1 Peterson Hill, Cresco, PA 18326, 570-839-3535.

The Rev. David Crosby will conduct a funeral service at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Keokee Chapel Cemetery, Paradise Valley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Pocono Community Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2019, Pocono Summit, PA 18346.

Fall District Roundtable Meeting (Aug. 1-2)

The Fall District Roundtable meeting will be held on August 1-2, 2008, at Christian Life Assembly, Camp Hill, PA. There will be a 6:30 p.m. meeting Friday night for the Camp Council Board and a meeting at 7:30 p.m. for the 2008 District Powwow recap and 2009 District Powwow planning. The District Roundtable meeting will be held on Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. sharp. Click on Fall District Roundtable under Upcoming Events on the home page for more information. Your presence is requested and needed. Don’t allow yourself to be convinced that it is not important if you attend. We can always find something else to take precedence over the meeting. This has been on the distributed calendar which we have all had for over a year now. If you truly believe this is your ministry then be committed to it.

Please distribute this information to all your staff members and individuals throughout the District and Sections ASAP. It is imperative that we have a good representation of persons attend in order to keep our ministry growing and serving our local churches. The uniform of the day will be Class B or C.
