PACC team finished 3rd in the A flight of Nifty Fifty bonspiel

In February of 1968, 125 senior women curlers from across British Columbia participated in the first Nifty Fifty bonspiel at Royal City Curling Club. In 1971, an impressive 64 rinks representing 31 clubs gathered in Burnaby for the event. Over the past 55 years, host clubs have circulated from the interior, lower mainland, and Vancouver Island to the Kootenay regions – always gathering in the spirit of fun and fellowship.

This year, Langley Curling Club hosted 36 teams including three from PACC – Hogg, McArthur, and Moloughney. The McArthur Rink, skipped by Martha McArthur with third Janet Dyok, second Mary Holmes and lead Judy Skinner won all five of their games. In a senior ladies bonspiel ties are broken by number of ends won so, despite their clean sweep, sadly the McArthur team finished 3rd.

A highlight of the bonspiel is the banquet where everyone comes in costume celebrating the theme – which was “Disney” this year. Pictured below are Cinderella (Judy Skinner), Snow White (Martha McArthur), Minnie Mouse (Janet Dyok), and Mickey Mouse (Mary Holmes). Next year everyone will be heading to Williams Lake for a “Fantastic Show Circus.”

Fraser Valley Masters Zone 2 Champions

Thanks to everyone who showed up last weekend for the Pacific Coast Masters Zone 2 Fraser Valley Masters Championships.

Consider becoming a timing official

Have you ever thought about becoming a curling official, or just helping out? Now is your opportunity. We are looking for timing officials for this year’s BC Mixed Provincial championships being held at the Langley Curling Club March 26-31.

It’s easy, just take the online course, which is free: https://www.curlbc.ca/time-clock-operator-observer-official/ .

You don’t have to get certified, just by taking and passing the course you can work as a timer. But, if you are interested in becoming a certified official, you complete the course and then work 6 games.

If interested, please contact Doug Boynton and he can give you more information and work you into the schedule.
