Didn't fix long enough so some shots are blotchy but can't be helped. Plenty more to come when this little guy joins us on our dash around Amsterdam but until then savour the little selection of shots below, more can be found on my flickr!

<img style="max-width:400px;"src="http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/1650/robot3kb8.jpg"/>

The Robot3 is a typical sequential shot cam with three lenses, gives the nice rectangle plus two square effect and is ridiculously simple to use, the handy little flip-up viewfinder is funky dunk too:D Grab one for something like a tenner on ebay or wherever you fancy. There's a Korean site here selling them that has gallons of pics of the camera itself and lots of information (if you read Korean!)

<img style="max-width:400px;"src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2352/2133150295_ac1db632de_b.jpg"/>

<img style="max-width:400px;"src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2026/2133927460_557d2f2317_b.jpg"/>

<img style="max-width:400px;"src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2183/2133924346_a6dd856068_b.jpg"/>

<img style="max-width:400px;"src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2288/2133923934_4582711f10_b.jpg"/>

<img style="max-width:400px;"src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2393/2133919898_98ecd6e23d_b.jpg"/>

<img style="max-width:400px;"src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2246/2133918940_4417339902_b.jpg"/>

juice box spin around!

Found some old Vivitar autofocus cam with a flash we got from a charity shop some time ago. It seemed the sort of place that might've been full of relatively high-nosed well-to-do posers, despite being on Seal street relatively close to the more down-to-earth Barfly, had it not been for the free entry price. Bare in mind I'm not having a go and could be entirely mistaken, at the gig though most people seemed lovely and ended up having a good, drink fueled, chat to a few of them! Speaking of drink the cocktails, Oh! The Cocktails! Hurrah for my far from thrifty cousin and his much appreciated generosity we tried quite a number of ADC's offerings, all of which were scrummy and made with flair to boot!
On with the review proper. Liz Green took the first slot, why I'm not sure I suppose her delightfully low key vocals and soft melodies aren't seen to be the order of the hour come midnight but its a little harsh I feel to give her such an unwarm and unsuspecting crowd. Once she got playing and people saw what she was about it all got a little more toasty, with people clapping and stomping along and Liz playing her organ which I've not seen before.
Despite her characteristic, but intensely charming, nerves, Liz played with gusto and showed us the beauty of her quaint, and undeniably unique, early 20th century bluesy vocals and, in spite of her clear talent and flair, displayed a perfect air of modesty. A perfect example of an artist being a star, unbeknownst to themselves. Below are a couple shots of Liz I took on my precious Holga (we're rocking clichés today!) they're not perfect, my flash wasn't very strong at all, but here they are:

liz and her guitar

liz and her organ

liz and her thoughts

liz and my cousin

She seemed like a lovely person, had a short chat outside with her a couple times and met her cousin val i think it was briefly. Anyone who hasn't already got her single Bad Medicine should really check it out. (its not a referral link I don't get money off a click I just think you should buy it!)
I feel awful because I cannot remember the name of the band following Liz but they were rather jumpy and great when they started rocking their reggae style, however it seemed this was underused but what was present really shone out through the rest of what was slightly generic pop-rock. No pictures of them I'm afraid!
    Emmy the Great popped up next if memory serves and played a great set, minus Edd is Dead unfortunately, obvious charisma and chemistry between the band members and Emmy's distinct ability to reach out to the crowd gave a lasting impression. However I sometimes felt that Emmy's solo work adds more to her tracks that the whole band can dilute a little. With just her voice shining above a soft guitar the lyrics seem to carry a little more weight. Only one shot of the band playing live but a couple of her selling merch (where she was kind enough to give us a couple canvas bags for watching the stall for five minutes) if she's reading this the lettering isn't too flinstone-esque.

emmy and her band

emmy and her scarf

emmy and her smile

Eugene McGuiness and Peter and the Wolf we missed sitting outside like bums, but it was getting increasingly hot and while I can see their appeal I can't say I'm all that much of a fan of either. However we caught the last but one band following them who seemed completely out of place at the gig; Sonic Hearts or something similarly bland. While competent and sure to sell some records there really was nothing to the group and ended up sending us back outside while we waited for Dev to take to the stage. Here are some dossing about pics while we waited.

lights!

brother and cousin

fairy lights and me

At what seemed far later than it was Lightspeed Champion, well just Dev initially, tottered into view holding his camera and presumably filming the audience, and, after a quick sound check, played what was quite an awesome set. The last few times I've seen him have been solo performances but seeing him with his band again really brought out their sound more than ever. The whole band seemed to really give it their all, violinist ...name escapes me damn it! ran into him at End of the Road and all! in particular. Rather than blather and waffle about them I'll just show the pictures and videos below; judge for yourself.

up close and personal with dev

dev and my bro (very happy bro)

dev dev dev

<img style="width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v172/100/9/777171958/n777171958_394937_5073.jpg" alt="I want to say mike? However after realising the amount of work required to get this as I wanted I decided to work on it in my own time. Little work has been done on the project as of yet but I have begun work on the frontend skin.

    Using Maximus Arcade as the frontend I am hoping to create a fully complimentary skin for the cabinet. MA allows full customisation and can integrate flash video and, as such, is perfect for the project. It may be a while before I update anymore of this project but once finished I will release the skin and all plans for the cabinet for others to use if they require.
On a side note I am not particularly a fan of steampunk, it just seems quite a fun challenge to mod modern technology into such a different style. See below for the skin intro video (crappy youtube res.) and a full res. screen cap. of the video:

<img style="width:400px;height:300px;"src="http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/6072/wipem4.jpg" />

Wallpapers

A couple of quick desktop wallpapers of a spraycan I had lieing around, my alarm clock, a door in manchester, me scanning negatives and something I cooked up when Oink got busted. What was I listening to to make such tasty eye candy? None other than Manchester's greatest; GNOD.

check them out at their myspace (http://www.myspace.com/gnodgnod) and if you think they're all that come down to one of their gigs or buy a cd. As part of my cleaning up and venting I am putting any of my old bits and pieces online for all to see. When I found this old post on Macrumors it seemed fitting; a ridiculous project by me and my cousin that we'd look back on and wonder what we were thinking.
Basically we had at our disposal a malfunctioning PS2, orange spray paint, a soldering iron and a large Tupperware. We followed the thinking that taking something apart then putting it back together tends to fix things but in our desperate bid to be different tried recasing it in a Tupperware. Rather than describe the project at length (there's little to say) below I have quoted the text from the original macrumors post, enjoy!

It's pretty obvious that I'm a perfectionist, for example, take picture number one; the duct-taping is impecable. Also the tape on the disc-drive had to be placed at exactly 84° for that authentic look.

Then we have image number two. In order to mantain an optimum core temperature of 63°C I have cut carefully measured airholes with a soldering iron which, luckily, had exactly the right diameter for the holes. One key point with any device like this is safety. In order to pass rigerous safety tests more duct-tape had to be applied to the edges of the disc slot.

As above the temperature of this system was important. Therefore I did away with the old circular fan hole and replaced with this, soldering iron cut, abstract ventillation shaft. In order to maximize user-friendliness the buttons now have a malleable mount to allow the user to adjust the button's angles for his pressing pleasure.

Being such a highly skilled graphic designer i took it upon me to redesign the, frankly embarissing,playstation 2 logo. My version appeals more to the younger audience due to the use of soft edges. Also the paint colour used for the main body is 'Games Workshop; Bood Angels Red'. This was chosen for it's 'go faster' qualities which actually make the 'emotion engine' within the PS2 run at speeds excessing 3.4ghz.

Here the paint has been aplied evenly to both internal and external components. This was to add consistency. One area wher the paint has not been applied is on some parts of the fan blades. Now, at first, one might think this is because of things getting in the way of the spray paint, but this is not true. The reason for this slight absence of paint is to create an optical illusion when the fan is in motion. This adds a touch of class to an already classy product.

Notice how the power and reset buttons have been left as the generic PS2 charcoal, this takes advantage of the human eyes natural ability to detect contrasting colours.

This is a limited designer edition with only one ever produced in the world. Unfortunately Sony Puritans broke into my secret underground laborartory, sabotaging the project and all original sketches.

There it is, please comment and digg as appropriate (its probably not).

the phantom bloody hourglass (i love you)

You know those puzzles that leave you infuriatingly typing gamefaqs.com after hours of random taps, jabs, strokes and button presses (we're on a DS here)? One just cropped up while playing through the unbelievably good phantom hourglass, probably the game which has taken best advantage of the DS's unique features to date; as you will soon see.
The puzzle in question basically involves two maps, i don't want to ruin this for people yet to play the game (get to it!) but it is a very small section, and after realising how stumped I was the game offered up the hint, through Link's now ubiquitous fairy, that I ought to press the maps together not having a clue what to do I finally gave in and read that the solution is to actually close the DS so that the two maps are literally pressed together! Genius!
Normally this sort of situation would result in discovering an anal solution (regularly a 1px by 1px item in some P&C!) but this undeniably unique device left me smiling somewhat idiotically. Not the delicious but infectious sticks many of us adore but the, most definately, trite images attached to various forum posts and user account pages scattered across the internet. While not something many would consider themselves proud of, while looking back over their unfortunate collection, why not have a quick retrospective over these ridiculously self-aware attempts to sum yourself up in a x by x pixels. Let the identity parade begin!

This was the first of the IDs, back in '04 from the (shudder) deviantart days, and at the time made me think I was one hip cat! I was young and naive little else I can say. Already I feel apologetic about these, perhaps it wasn't the most interesting or poignant piece to write but now i've started... Rather than blather on about the rest I'll just list them and comment if you fancy. This is my sort of closure I think.

The last one actually came out quite well, still these are here for the sake of getting rid of them from me. Largely I hope that it will force me to actually finish some things, as readers will soon gather I have a tendancy to forget about something and move on once my short attention span dwindles. But hopefully no more!

I live in an average village not too far from Manchester, it can be soul destroying but it can be beautiful depending on your viewpoint.

I need people around to keep me going, and if the're talking passionately about something they love all the better.

I enjoy videogames more than is healthy and there is a large place in my heart for the beloved Master System I grew up with.

Musically I'm quite open to anything but am currently stuck on anything a little experimental and ambient which sounds more than a little anal.
