张绍刚：好，我们有请下一位选手，来自美国伊利诺伊大学芝加哥分校的计算机博士DM。

一个瘦子上台，腼腆地说：hi,大家好，我是DM,在美国的UIC Philip Yu实验室做数据挖掘。

张绍刚：好了，听说你在美国学了那么多年计算机，那你计算机怎样？现在是什么程度？

DM：额，我觉得还不错，我曾经发过论文在KDD。。

张绍刚：噢，好了我知道了，文颐，你来考一下DM的英文和计算机水平。

文颐：哈喽，你好

DM：嗨，您好！

文颐：I hears already u a learn computer science，so wanna a question。

文颐：good, so I have a everyone maybe interest question, what is em..em..your boshi research ？

DM：well, my research is data mining, which is an interdisciplinary field. It is particularly useful nowadays because of big data. We want to discover knowledge from the massive data storage that is collected by ………

文颐打断：我没有让你讲挖矿，我只要求你解释一下你的博士研究是什么意思，好吗？

DM：well…actually, u can not…..

文颐：没有砍不砍的问题，我们不是来听你讲计算机课的，只是请你说一下这是什么意思。

DM：well, I mean…

张绍刚插入：好，停，来，文颐，告诉我们，到底发生了什么？

文颐：噢，他不是学计算机的吗，还是博士吗，我就问了他一个博士的研究课题是什么。他却跟我扯什么采矿业，什么交叉作业，什么从田野里发明知识？这简直，就算是中文也说不通嘛

张绍刚：那你觉得他英文怎样？

文颐：因为他在美国呆了那么多年，我觉得可能，呵呵，因为我只去美国旅过游，买了几个包，英语相当一般，但我觉得他的程度，可能还不如我，呵呵。

心理观察师：你是学计算机的是吗？

DM：是

心理观察师：那请你说出一个中国籍的诺贝尔计算机学奖获得者的名字！

DM：what……the…

心理观察师：那请你或者说出一个中国籍的对c语言，c++，java都有杰出贡献的计算机学家的名字？

DM：what……the…

心理观察师：谭浩强你该知道吧？提到这些语言，所有大学生就知道谭浩强写了好多教材，对这些语言做出了杰出贡献，这是最最基本的！你不会连编程都没学过吧？

DM：……………………可是…可是。。。

心理观察师：哼

张绍刚：那你介绍一下比尔盖茨的paper。

DM一头汗：这、、、我没看过他的paper。。

张绍刚：你一个学计算机的，还是博士，居然连比尔盖茨的paper都没看过！！！好了，我们来看一下他发表的文章吧，我反正不专业，文颐来看一下。

文颐仔细琢磨了一下：这些paper非常奇怪，好像就是分析facebook或者twitter用户行为的，应该属于社会学范畴。发表的会议有KDD，WWW，ICDM什么的，其实这类的会议在国外很多的，无非就是几个人为了赚一些钱，就设立一个会议，然后大家投稿，交钱就可以中。现在中国也有很多类似的东西，本身都不说明什么问题。文章评审的程序也不清楚，比如有的会议叫盲审，其实翻译成中文就叫“暗箱操作”。这些文章拿我们这儿的情况比较的话，大概就是你上课写的实验报告吧，呵呵。

张绍刚：那你再看看他的博士毕业证书

文颐又仔细琢磨了一下：这证书就更奇怪了。他说他是学计算机的，这证书上写他是哲学医生。这个计算机根本不搭边嘛。你英语能看懂的话应该知道这证书有问题啊

张绍刚：Frank，UIC这个学校怎么样？

心理观察师：UIUC我就有听过，伊利诺伊大学香槟分校工科非常好。UC我们也知道，芝加哥大学那也是很好的学校。这个UIC比UIUC少一个字母，比UC又多一个字母，恐怕是野鸡大学吧，专门模仿人家名校校名的。你们实验室是不是都是中国人？

DM：（汗）是。。。

心理观察师：看看，国外有很多这种野鸡大学专门招中国人混文凭的。

张绍刚：计算机很难念，我认识好多人连本科都毕不了业。你居然说你念到博士。而且我们也都知道不管在国内还是国外，学计算机根本找不到工作，你居然说你还有实习经历。你实习的公司中文名叫什么？

DM：它没有中文名。。。

张绍刚：居然连中文名都没有。比如说我们都知道Microsoft中文叫微软，Google叫谷歌，这都是好公司。你实习的单位居然没有中文名，可能也是个皮包公司。

DM千思万绪涌出，看着全场boss和张韶刚冷漠鄙视轻蔑的眼神，大脑瞬间缺氧，摇摇欲坠。

这时，张绍刚拉了他一把，问道：你是在表演吗？

陶：没有。

在这句话的打击下，DM瞬间清醒过来，但是不大记得刚才发生什么事情了。

张绍刚：好，问题问到这里，各位boss请选择！

结果有两家网站公司的灯还亮着。两位boss说，听说他提到数据，我们这缺一些处理数据的人员，比如用Excel做个报表什么的。月薪是2500加上奖金，地点在北京，你愿意考虑吗？

DM想都没想，说“谢谢，再见”

后来DM也不知道自己是怎么下场的，最后有个主持人让他说感想，他说，我可以说脏话吗？

主持人：不可以。

DM：那我就没什么可说的了，可能是文化差异吧。

张绍刚：我觉得他是个演员。美国计算机博士难道就是这样的水准吗？难道这样肤浅的人随便交点钱给点好处就能混到大学文凭和那什么会议发表论文么？我这真不明白！还有，请应聘者摆正心态，不要好高骛远。居然给了你机会，想都不想就拒绝了，这么飘着哪行啊。做人还是要脚踏实地，有什么样的本事就做什么样的工作，不要以为自己是海归就觉得没边了。唉，我真想不明白他们是怎么想的。

靠玩手段破解囚徒困境

囚徒困境是博弈论中的经典游戏：两位囚徒面临合作和背叛两个选择，合作的话双方被判的刑期可能会较短，背叛的话受害者将会面临更长的刑期，同时也促使他选择背叛，导致双输。显然，最佳策略是合作。举例来说，双方合作，每人被判2年；一方合作一方背叛，受害者面临5年徒刑；双方都背叛，刑期为4年。德州大学奥斯汀分校William Press和普林斯顿高等数学研究院的Freeman Dyson在PNAS上发表论文(可阅读全文)，表示他们找到了方法使采用该策略的囚徒能比对手获得更短的刑期，例如平均1.3年对3.1年。他们的方法是耍手段：聪明的囚徒可以迫使对手选择合作，否则会导致更长刑期。

论文：Exploring Temporal Patterns in Classifying Frustrated and Delighted Smiles

Is there a difference between while people smile under frustration as opposed to being genuinely delighted? How do the classifiers perform on recognizing mental states such as frustration and delighted when acted, as well as when elicited? What can we infer from the results about data collected through natural means as opposed to asking people to act? How do humans perform in correctly labeling smiles elicited under frustrated and genuinely delighted? Can we develop automated systems to distinguish between frustrated smiles and delighted smiles that perform better or as good as their human counterpart? This paper attempts to answer all these questions through a series of studies.

计算机面部识别技术虽然在近年并未获得突破性成果，但MIT的研究者还是在这方面取得一些不错成绩，他们最新开发的技术甚至能够判断微笑背后的真实情感。

研究人员最初让实验者表现出高兴与沮丧的表情，并使用两个摄像头记录图像。然后再让计算机算法与普通人同时对记录的表情进行情绪判断，两者都能基本判别。再让本来就快乐的人与本来遭受了挫折的人都露出微笑表情时，人类通过笑容判别情绪的准确率过半，而MIT的计算机算法的差别准确率却能超过90%。

研究人员希望该技术能更好地帮助那些理解人类表情有困难的人。同时，它在商业方面也有着较大潜力，因为他们认为：“顾客对你微笑，表达的不一定就是满意，笑容背后的含义很重要。”

股价的走势历来都让人琢磨不透。但是Facebook IPO当天，Twitter却神奇般的预测到了其股价变动的每一个趋势。

社交媒体监测平台DataSift监测了Facebook IPO当天Twitter上的情感倾向。即人们在Twitter上发布的大量谈论facebook IPO的Tweet中会包含一些情感倾向，比如正面的或者负面的。结论显示，Twitter上每一次情感倾向的转向都会影响Facebook股价的波动，延迟情况只有几分钟到二十多分钟。

DataSift根据58665位用户产生的95019条Tweet互动绘制了一幅图，很清晰的反映了两者的对应关系——基本上是呈正相关。

比如，Facebook 开盘前Twitter上的情感逐渐转向负面，25分钟之后,Facebook的股价便开始下跌。而当Twitter上的情感转向正面时，Facebook股价在8分钟之后也开始了回弹。最后，当股市接近收盘时，Twitter上的情感转向负面，10分钟后facebook的股价又开始下跌。

当然，就凭DataSift的这幅图还远不能揭示Twitter和股价的关系，也不能证明Twitter会对股价产生影响。不过国外和国内确实已经开始了对社交媒体进行情感语义分析，并试图由此发现另外一条预测股价趋势的方法。对于社交媒体和股票感兴趣的创业者可以研究一下。

毕业临近，旅旅游

最近一段时间，毕业在即，各种琐事，明天毕业答辩。

最可恶的就是驾校由于人太多，考试进度非常非常慢，耽误了很多事情，也没办法出去实习。等吧。

由于有点儿疲，就索性背起包来连夜爬了个泰山，之前种种原因错过了两次爬泰山的机会。

运气不错，看到了日观峰的日出。

宿舍两个兄弟都已经有驾照了，索性租了一辆小车，自驾游吧，去了三个同学的家。

兄弟们的父母都很热情，很亲近，自己也有到家的一种感觉，反而没有那么陌生。

去了临沂，爬了蒙山，和泰山真是各有风格。

去了枣庄滕州，泛舟微山湖，真是大，一望无际，到了京杭大运河的分支漂了一下，环境真是好。

近距离接触了渔民的生活。

吃了家里各种地道的饭菜，胖了。

6月4号奔赴香港开一个小会，除了开会，更想看看香港的特色，自己以后开会的机会也少了，也没写出什么像样子的文章。

自己常常反思，研究生阶段过的有点儿浮躁，有点儿虚无，不是很踏实。

Basic Computation Supporting Library (BCSLib)

This is a C++ library to provide basic support to various computation tasks. The library comprises the following modules:

Base module: basic algorithms, memory management support, and meta-programming support
Array module: template classes to represent vectors, matrices, vector and matrix views using different indexing, as well as functions to manipulate vectors and matrices.
Data structure module: template classes and functions that implement various data structures, such as heaps, disjoint sets, and different types of trees.
Graph module: template classes to represent graphs, and generic graph algorithms including BFS, DFS, topological sorting, shortest path algorithms, and minimum spanning tree algorithms.

Statistical Modeling and Inference Toolbox

This is a MATLAB Toolbox to support statistical learning and inference. It comprises over 300 functions, ranging from classic algorithms such as Principle Component Analysis (PCA) and K-Means, to advanced probabilistic models such as Latent Dirichlet Allocation and nonparametric Bayesian. Specifically, the toolbox is composed of the following modules:

Base module: basic but useful functions for data manipulation, pairwise metric computation, and efficient routines to deal with the calculation on large amount of small matrices.
Optim module: functions for nonlinear optimization (e.g. Newton and BFGS), and wrappers for LP\QP solvers, as well as functions to solve optimization problems of specific forms

Graph module: a collection of functions to solve graph-related problems.
- Functions to efficiently represent and manipulate graphs
- Classic graph algorithms: BFS, DFS, Connect components, Shortest paths, Minimum spanning trees, etc.

P-Model module: classes and functions for probabilistic modeling and inference.

人生苍茫，最近状态

真是发现不学习不思考就没得写了，只能写写生活。

最近没啥事情，主要的工作就是学车考驾照，由于驾校人太多所以考试周期跨度太大了，4月14考了科目二，科目三得5月考。要是不考驾照也就去实习了吧。

要穷死了，由于今年没啥大额的奖学金啥的，也没出去实习，也没私活，然后就囧了，再者要是去北京工作又得押一付三，看来得向哥们儿求助了。

一穷二白，一屁股债，北上打工，谁知道命途如何，我又不是个聪明人。

忽然发现好多好多同学去银行了，大多是为了生活，生活也挺好的。

为了坚持自己的一点儿小梦想，银行、公务员啥的也没考虑过，希望以后不会后悔。

其实选择没有错，好好做呗，到死了一直做得挺好的话也值了，本来就不可能体验所有的职业和生活。

或许是人设计的一种优化，又或者是一种Bug。

同志们，假期过得愉快哈，多陪陪父母妻儿，生命短暂。
