Outdoor Skating & Curling Rink; Located at the BellAliant Snow Kingdom at Sherwood Greens, the perfect setting for creating family memories. Children’s characters are expected to make a visit and outdoor buskers will be roving about.

Hang on tight as you race down the CAT Run, made from the biggest mountain of snow in Charlottetown. As you plunge down one of the 150ft. long snowy runs, The CAT Run will be one of the highlights of your visit. Tubes are provided courtesy of Brookvale Ski Park. You are encouraged to bring your own helmets.

Dinosaur Adventure Quest; Using 21st century GPS technology, you will scour the grounds of UPEI looking for clues to the whereabouts of the Island’s only dinosaur. The jaw bone of a Dimetrodon was discovered near French River in 1845. It’s believed to be the oldest remains of this giant lizard-like creature found anywhere. During our pre-historic scavenger hunt, you’ll navigate the campus using a handheld GPS unit to find tiny T-Rex, brontosaurs and raptors as wells as dinosaur trivia that will lead you to find the Dimetrodon. Dinosaurs and neat technology – two things kids just love! The GPS Adventure Quest starts and finishes at the UPEI Indoor Playland in the Gym.

Come take a dip in the popular CARI pool! Open for all those with a Jack Frost jacket tag, CARI’s open swims will not disappoint!

International Busker Brent McCoy “The Real McCoy Show”; Meet Brent McCoy, a performer who has been called “extraordinary”, “both funny and amazing“, and “hilarious” by audiences all over the world. This one-man circus and comedy act will leave audiences laughing well after the performance is over. Brent’s toured all over the world with his hard hat, juggling skill, and wry sense of humor. Don’t miss this highly interactive, all ages show!!!

Cycling PEI Snow Cycling: Come and watch the pros race at the all new Snow Cycling tracks on Saturday at 1pm. These organized races are sure to amaze the entire family. If you feel like you’ve picked up enough pointers, you can even try for yourself with supplied bike and helmet or take part in a time trial on Sunday at 1pm~ Brought to you by cycle PEI.

3 on 3 Pond Hockey: Get your skates and bring your game face to the new 100' x 300' outdoor ice rink! Andrew’s Hockey Growth Program has organized a three on three pond hockey tournament open to people of all ages and divisions with an open division for adults eighteen and up. There is something for everyone so make sure to bring your family to cheer you on as you go for the goal!

Nightly Fireworks: Come see them at the Sherwood Greens site located behind the Charlottetown Mall. Prepare to be amazed as we light up the outdoor playland with an awesome display of fireworks and pyrotechnics choreographed to a musical soundtrack. With unique special effects and a magical, musical background, the sky will come alive. Not to be missed!

Food Country is an ongoing weekly series featuring Chef Michael Smith’s food adventures as he sources ingredients throughout Prince Edward Island then returns to his kitchen to cook and create the simple flavourful dishes he’s known for. “Food Country is an online showcase of Prince Edward Island’s flavours, people and stories,” says Chef Michael Smith. “We’re showing the world what a special food destination we are, how food is woven into the tapestry of our culture and why we’re worth a special visit.”

Each week a new episode will launch, alternating between “field” and “kitchen” episodes. In the field, Chef Michael Smith visits potato farms, vegetable farms, beef farms, oyster beds, local markets, a vodka distillery or heads to sea aboard a lobster boat. In the kitchen, Michael transforms the ingredients he finds into simple dishes that will inspire viewers in their own kitchen. Indigo Books & Music Inc. recently announced their Booklovers' Top Ten "Life-changing" Books of the past decade, and Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic about red-haired Anne Shirley came in 4th. It was the highest ranked Canadian book on the list.

In a CBC.ca story, Lisa Huie, manager of public relations for Indigo, said it is amazing how L. M. Montgomery's 1908 novel has remained relevant to readers.

"Anne has, for generations, connected with readers and I think that she continues to engage with book lovers across the country," said Huie.

Rawlins Cross to Headline Annual Prince Edward Island International Shellfish Festival

The PEI International Shellfish Festival has traditionally been known for its Kitchen Party theme, hosting such maritime greats acts. Home to the Biggest Kitchen Party in Atlantic Canada the festival committee decided what better musical talent than Rawlins Cross to bring down the house on the second evening of entertainment.

“We are really looking forward to playing at the festival, as this will be our only Island performance this fall.”states Joey Kitson, frontman for Rawlins Cross. “The festival has a great energy that we feel we can really add to.”

Fusing Celtic traditional music with the rhythms of rock, pop and worldbeat music, Rawlins Cross has been thrilling audiences for nearly 20 years. Rawlins Cross is always a "fan favorite" on the North American and European music festival circuit consistently earning return engagements.

“We are thrilled to have Rawlins Cross live on the CTV Stage at this year’s festival” explains Liam Dolan, co-chair of the PEI International Shellfish Festival. “They are the perfect fit for the festival and will surely get everyone’s toes tapping on Saturday night!”

In addition to Rawlins Cross, there will be a number of other great maritime musicians hitting the stage throughout the three days. The full entertainment lineup will be announced at the official launch of this year’s festival on September 1, 2009.

Other activities taking place throughout the festival weekend include the PEI Potato Chowder Championship, which features the best in Island Chowder, and the Cream International Chowder Championship, welcoming Chefs from across North America to put their chowder to the test. Always a crowd favourite, the festival plays host to the two Oyster Shucking Championships, the Raspberry Point PEI Oyster Shucking Championships and the JP’s Shellfish World Invitational Oyster Shucking Championship. Another event not to miss is the Go Deep Tie One On Competition, where Mussel farmers test their skills at tying mussel socks.
