Last week we went on the Arcadia Urban Farm tour. Boho Farm and Home is now raising chickens and selling the eggs. Lo and behold in the chicken coup is a hen laying eggs and an antique crystal chandelier. This is definitely the most unusual place that I have seen a crystal chandelier. We decided it would be fun to have a contest and ask our friends to send us photos of the most unusual place they have seen lighting fixtures installed.

When interior designer, Althea Bussert came to see us, she had a very specific idea in mind for the chandelier needed for the front courtyard of her client's gorgeous hacienda style home in Chandler.

The decorative detail in the entryway's gate has a Moorish style pattern in the iron fretwork. She wanted to incorporate the same detail into the lighting fixture's banding. We think it turned out beautifully. We love collaborating with our clients!

Meanwhile, all of the lanterns throughout the property are also from Pentimento! We personalized the lanterns with a fleur-de-lis finial at the top of each. As the project progressed, two more lanterns were needed as the finishing touch at the front entry. We delivered everything on time and in her budget!

Althea, who worked with us on other projects years ago, was a delight to work with. We are so happy she came back to us again!

A Walk Through The Factory

noreply@blogger.com (Pentimento Lighting & Furnishings) — Thu, 23 Jun 2011 17:38:00 +0000

It's always exciting to see what the factory is making for the day. Here are a few snapshots of what we discovered this morning.

It's a little hard to see in the photo but this lantern measures 30" high by 20" wide. Wow, what a hefty guy this is.

Here is it's sidekick at 18" high by 12 1/2" wide.

Come take a walk with us through our factory to see what you can discover!

noreply@blogger.com (Pentimento Lighting & Furnishings) — Wed, 18 May 2011 23:58:00 +0000

Our client came to us with her architect wanting outdoor lanterns for her new custom home. She had a vision of "Santa Barbara style".

We listened...

We sketched...

We designed...

We shared several collaboration sessions while discussing the many details of the project. This was the winning design.

And as a final personal touch we created custom, initialed, embossed medallions for the backplates of the lanterns at the home's entry.

A unique stamp on this very beautiful home. Here's the entry.

The lantern design was used throughout the property.

We so enjoyed working together with everyone on this project! The experience was truly one of collaboration - creating exactly what the client wanted while being mindful of the project's budget. We also designed and fabricated many more details for the home: iron chandeliers for the living room and the kitchen; iron sconces; iron railings, inside and out; iron window guards and iron gates. As the single source for all of the iron and lighting products, we helped the client by not only coordinating those details, but also by creating a very cohesive aesthetic throughout the property. Stay tuned to our blog. We will definitely be showing more pics of this lovely home in the near future.

Ooh La La...

Bid on This!

noreply@blogger.com (Pentimento Lighting & Furnishings) — Fri, 29 Apr 2011 17:11:00 +0000

To support NEWH and their mission of education and scholarships, we've donated this original, three-dimensional, memorabilia collage featuring The Breakers Hotel of Palm Beach Florida, to be auctioned off from May 12th through May 23rd. in conjunction with HDExpo in Las Vegas. Show your support by placing a bid on this and many other fun and unique items!

We started with an original 1920's vintage post card recreated as a giclée art print on archival watercolor paper. This one-of-a-kind piece is complemented with a whitewashed, distressed frame, real shells and a print of the post card's reverse side, showing the handwritten message

posted in 1921.

Check out this close-up of the back of the original postcard! This iconic property was originally built in 1896 as The Palm Beach Inn, by Standard Oil magnate, Henry Morrison Flagler. During an expansion project The Breakers burned down on June 9, 1903. Less than a year later it reopened on February 1, 1904 to universal acclaim. Rooms started at four dollars a night, including three meals a day. Can you imagine!? Later, another tragic fire on March 18, 1925 destroyed the all-wood building of the hotel. In January of 1926 construction began, once again, with the new building being modeled after the Villa Medici in Rome, Italy.

The Breakers' guest register read like a "who's who" of early twentieth century America—Rockefellers, Vanderbuilts, Astors, Andrew Carnegie and J.P. Morgan vacationed alongside United States presidents and European nobility.

We think "The Breakers" is a lovely tribute to a famous place in hospitality history, plus a glimpse into another era. Check out more items to bid on in support of NEWH and it's scholarship program!

What historic place or person would you like to see paid tribute to in the form of an original collaged artwork? Let us know!

The Arrogant Butcher opened very recently at CityScape in Downtown Phoenix. This is the newest from the prolific restaurateur Sam Fox. His company, Fox Restaurant Concepts creates original boutique restaurants, each one more interesting and inspired than the last.

Through many stages of collaboration we created the final lighting designs. The outcome speaks for itself.

"Made in America" Bikini Top

noreply@blogger.com (Pentimento Lighting & Furnishings) — Wed, 06 Apr 2011 21:27:00 +0000

Submitted by Ronna Nitzky

I am so lucky to work with such talented and creative people! They envision, design and fabricate the most wonderful ideas. When Kim, our vintage art consultant, showed me this half mannequin with The Made in America Bikini Top I had to ask her how she ever thought to do that.

Kim answered, "I was thinking how I could dress this half naked woman (no pun intended). When Bingo!!…bikini, retro, 70's, rock-n-roll came to mind. So scrounging around for what might work, I discover these "Made in the U.S.A. stickers. How appropriate. But now came the added dilemma…Halter or straps?? Just let it flow, Kim."

She is a Striking Girl…No?

noreply@blogger.com (Pentimento Lighting & Furnishings) — Fri, 01 Apr 2011 16:51:00 +0000

April Fool!

Gotcha! She's a He! American stage & film actor and female impersonator, Julian Eltinge was famous for fooling his audience. He did not merely present a caricature of women, but presented the illusion of actually being a woman. He toured simply as "Eltinge" which left his sex unknown, while his act included singing and dancing in a variety of female roles including The Crinoline Girl. At the conclusion of his performances, he would remove his wig, revealing his true nature to the surprise of his often unknowing fans.

This giclée print is available from our exclusive line of artworks inspired by vintage items, memorabilia and collectibles. The original black and white advertisement was found in an estate sale in the Hollywood Hills. (Can't say whose estate is was…shhhhhhhhhh!) Our very talented artist and graphic designer, Ana Cordova, added in the washy, faded tones of color, not to mention the blush on "her" cheeks and a bit of red to "her" lips. Ana worked on this piece before we knew the history of Julian. While doing so, she said, "It's funny, I don't know what it is…but I feel like putting a beard on this lady."

Well, Julian, so many years later, you are still fooling us! Have fun, everyone, on this most humorous day.

It's Spring!

Well, we hope you enjoyed our social media seminar. If you didn't make it, you missed some really thought provoking material. If you ever have the opportunity to hear Dave Cooke speak, do it!

So, using social media is no panacea or magic wand that will miraculously create new business. They are just tools, albeit potentially powerful tools. Undoubtedly demonstrated around the world starting revolutions. A big take away from the seminar was the simple truth that as with any marketing tool, you still have to be clear about some very basic things. Know who you are, and be that. Be authentic. Know your customer. Express your genuine passion in what you do and say.

Today's "marketing", with tools like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Blogs and such, is more than ever about personalization and engagement. Through these communication approaches we are speaking person to person, sharing ideas, generating responses and simply engaging in a way that lets us all be a bit closer, more helpful, better informed and a whole lot more interconnected. What better way to nurture valuable relationships with our customers.

So, without further adieu, we need to sincerely thank a few people.

Dave Cooke. Your presentation was outstanding! You've inspired us on a profoundly human level. As you pointed out, people do business with people, not with a brand or a product. And through connecting more deeply, we may know one another better, and be better able to support the needs of our customers, as well. Dave, thank you! You gave us much to consider, as well as put into practice, as we move forward in this realm of digital media!

Nancy Hugo. You are a force to be reckoned with! Thank you for all of your support in getting the word out about our seminar. We made several new friends, who came because, "Nancy told them to." Or because, they read it on your fabulous website, Designer's Circle. Nancy, you really are the go-to source to keep up-to-date on events and happenings in the valley's interior design community! And we love your blog!

And finally, our seminar would not have been a success without all of you who attended. Thank you for coming. We know it is not always easy or convenient to make time in your busy schedules for workshops and such. So we deeply appreciate that you came. We'll be doing other events in the future and hope to see you, (as well as others who couldn't make it this time), again soon! If you like, you can receive our emails, so you don't miss the next event.
