This is a Royal Doulton Burslem Artwares Jintan vase, model number BA19 decorated with an Oriental Sung glaze that pays tribute to the flambe glazes that Doulton created in the early 20th century. These in turn were based on the glazes developed by ancient Chinese potters that had long remained a mystery to European potters.

Each piece is hand-made making it unique and is a stunning rich red in colour. This vase was produced by Royal Doulton in a limited number of 350 – this particular example is number 136, and comes with its original certificate.

A couple of new additions to the Perfect pieces Troika pottery section are these very interesting Troika pottery Marmalade vases.

A couple of new additions to the Perfect Pieces Troika pottery section are these very interesting Troika pottery Marmalade vases:

The Troika marmalade vase is a textured piece of Troika pottery that is finished off with a shouldered top that is glazed in a coordinating colour. The vases were decorated in a range of colours and designs.

The two pictured above are very nice examples – the first Marmalade vase pictured has one side with a large letter T on it (T for Troika!). This has been coloured in a vivid blue really making it stand out – making it a lovely piece for a collection. This one has been decorated by Anne Lewis who worked at the pottery from c1966-1972.

The second Troika Marmalade pictured has several sides with interesting designs – one has a mushroom pattern, one has an apple pattern and another has the stylised T pattern! This Troika Marmalade vase was decorated by Linda Taylor who worked at the pottery in the early 1970’s.

We have added several new PenDelfin rabbits to the Perfect Pieces PenDelfin section including this very bright and dazzling PenDelfin Uncle Soames rabbit.

We have added several new PenDelfin rabbits to our PenDelfin section including this very bright and dazzling PenDelfin Uncle Soames rabbit:

The Uncle Soames PenDelfin rabbit is one of the larger rabbits of the PenDelfin family and is the companion of Aunt Agatha! He was designed by PenDelfin founder Jean Walmsley Heap. Uncle Soames is a well presented rabbit wearing a waistcoat and cravat and was retired from production by the PenDelfin factory in 1985.

Another early member of the PenDelfin family is the PenDelfin Tammy Puppy dog – also designed by Jean Walmsley Heap.

The PenDelfin pottery designed only a few models that weren’t dogs – this is one of them! It is a shaggy dog with came with collars in different colours – an excellent collecting option if you’re a dog fan! He was retired from production in 1987.

This coming weekend, Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th March 2010, it’s time once again for the giant Wetherby Racecourse Antiques Fair organised by Jaguar Fairs.

This antiques fair opens on Saturday at 8am when entrance is £4 for adults. This is reduced to £3 from 9am on Saturday for the remainder of the weekend. There is ample free parking at the event and the new racecourse buildings where some stallholders are housed are new and very nicely equipped. If it’s nice weather you’ll probably see quite alot of outdoor stallholders as well!

Remember, it’s always wise to check with the organiser that an event is still scheduled to go ahead before you set out for it – especially given our current weather!

Click here to visit the organiser’s website

If you’re wanting to post pottery, ceramics or glass or even simply store some bits away at home in your loft then you’ll probably need tissue paper, bubble wrap, boxes and tape to name just a few bits!

I often wrap pieces in tissue paper first then in bubble wrap. The tissue paper can help protect any delicate decoration or gilding on the item from being worn or pulled off by the bubble wrap (this does of course depend on what the item is).

We discovered that the online store The Packaging Store has an Antiques & Fine Art Department on their website. This groups together all the kind of things you’ll need when packing antiques and collectables – including bubble wrap, a whole range of different sorts of tissue paper, variety of tapes including Fragile of course, corner and edge protectors and of course boxes!
