This seller is willing to barter when you use best offer. But even at the buy it now price of $998.64 that’s still cheaper than I can find anywhere else (unless you qualify for upgrade or student/faculty pricing of course). And I’ve done a lot of searching. I even considered enrolling in a course just to get the student pricing.

This link includes a short video about “floating parking.” It’s informative and interesting, but might I direct your attention to this comment by Gary Toth, the man featured in the video:

“Average travel time through on Prospect Park West stayed the same even though average speeds dropped from 34 to 26 mph. This is counterintuitive, but when the road was three lanes, cars would barrel down the road only to pile up at red lights – the start and stop at traffic lights is one of the biggest causes of congestion. Also, weaving in and out – another factor in congestion and crashes – has probably gone down since the road improvement.”

Don’t believe driving slower on a road with traffic lights is a good idea? I challenge you to give it a try some time. Take note of cars passing you and look forward to passing them at the next light. And even if you don’t end up passing them, you’ll at least do a lot less starting and stopping (which will save you gas). If you’re in the Grand Rapids area, good roads to try this on are 28th Street, the East Beltline, and Alpine.

Also, bike more.

One thing I love about Grand Rapids is that curbside recycling is free while you pay for trash pick-up. It makes a lot of sense and encourages people to recycle (after all, it saves them money). I’ve heard of places where it’s the other way around (i.e. Columbus, OH) and that makes no sense. While I am an avid recycler, I might not do it if I had to pay for it.

But I digress; recycling in Grand Rapids is about to get even more attractive with this new rewards system they’ll be starting in April. It has the potential to be very cool. Read about it at the above link. Hopefully the community will get as engaged in this program as they are hoping.

I recently stumbled upon a Vimeo User named Alex Cican. Professionally he is a web designer/developer, and in his free time he pursues photography, video, and animation, among other things. Looking at some of the stuff this guy has done, I must say I am impressed.

He just got finished with a video tutorial series called “Clever uses of a tripod.” There are some very good ideas in there and the series is certainly worth a look.

He also has some great web design/development tutorials and tips on his professional website.

I love how people are using the web to share their knowledge so that others can learn too. Some do it better than others and I think Alex Cican is doing a very good job of it.
