Your smile, your eyes, and your posture say a lot about you. Your body language can show if you’re comfortable or not. Have you ever seen someone walking into the room and you’re like “What a personality” or this person is in charge? So that’s how your body language affects your impression. So your body language is one of the important psychological tricks to improve your life.

Stay calm in difficult situations

Staying calm is important. Your reaction to everything matters. Being angry and being anxious will not help in difficult situations. Rather these emotions can worsen the situation. But anger is a kind of emotion that subside in some time and after that, it takes you on a guilt trip.

You see, grieving is important no doubt. But worrying over something which is not under your control is useless. Be smart enough to use your energy in the right place. To improve yourself and your life. Instead of worrying do something productive and needful. You’ve to remind yourself to channelize your energy at something better. So this is a good psychological trick to improve your life for something better.

The most difficult thing now days is maintaining your authenticity. We often compromise with our real selves because we’re too worried about other’s point of view. But you need to remember one thing it’s okay to be yourself, no matter what they say.

How many times you do things because you were asked to do that not because you really want to do that? Many times right. If yes then you really need to work towards loving yourself more and knowing yourself more.

What is being yourself actually means?

It starts with accepting yourself as an individual. We live in society and we need to co-operate with other human beings to live but in the process, you also need to respect yourself as an individual being.

Being yourself means to love yourself enough, to respect your choices, to be happy with who you are. Not changing yourself to fit in.

How to be yourself?

Well, it’s all about your self-confidence. Everyone goes through a phase in life where you don’t know what to do? You get confused about life. It’s a common thing many people experience. In the process, we lose ourselves to meet other people’s expectations.

Sometimes we feel we’re not enough. But Just as you are, you are enough. You need to keep this in your mind. Trust me It’s okay to be yourself.

Let’s know about a few ways to be yourself

Accept yourself

The first key to reach towards being yourself is acceptance. First, you need to accept yourself after that except someone else to accept you. If you’re not comfortable being you, It’s not going to work. Accept your personality, accept your needs, accept your values, and accept your feelings. Accept that It’sokaytobeyourself.

Believe

One of the important aspects of being yourself is believing. Believe in yourself. Nobody is perfect but every one is worth for themselves. Believe that you’re worthy of living your life your way. You don’t need to be behind people or be like someone else just because you want to achieve something. Trust yourself enough, create a belief system that says it’s okay to be yourself, no matter what they say.

Trust your instincts

What I personally feel vibes, energy, and instincts are important. If you want to be yourself you really need to trust them. Sometimes we do things just because society or people want us to do that. But somewhere deep down we know that it’s wrong or I’m not comfortable doing that. I should do something else instead. We ignore our instinct and do what others say.

You really need to stop that. Just use your brain, trust your instincts, and move with that.

Ignore the negativity

Sometimes we want to do what our heart says but society stops us. But somehow we manage to fight back and follow our heart but there’s a lot of negativity around us. That doesn’t want us to move ahead. And sometimes in our vulnerable state somehow we get influenced by that and fall into the trap and move back.

Know that it’s not worth it. You need to ignore all the negativity and focus on what you want. If you start messing with that negativity you can not move ahead in your life. You’ll waste your energy where it doesn’t matter. So preserve your energy, ignore the irrelevant, and head towards your path where you’ll get to know it’s okay to be yourself, no matter what they say.

Follow all these ways to be yourself but always remember one thing. There’s a difference between being yourself and being arrogant.

Why it’s okay to be yourself no matter what they say?

Well, you’ve got only one life and how much? you never know. So better live it to the fullest by being yourself and by your standards.

We often get conscious about ourselves, our actions, and decisions but the truth is people and society hardly care. At the end of the day, you and your loved ones will matter. Remember one thing happiness is a choice and choose to be happy by accepting yourself the way you’re. If you’re different that’s completely okay. Be the total owner of your life.

Almost everyone goes through this feeling in his or her life, Feeling Worthless and this can happen anytime. And the reason can be anything. Most people feel this during their development years. The most common reason to feel like this is low self-confidence.

What is worthlessness?

Feeling worthless or worthlessness is basically the feeling like you’re lacking your worth. You don’t have any value or you’re good for nothing.

When someone is going through this feeling of worthlessness he or she usually feels this in every aspect of their life. For example – They’re not good as a son or daughter, not a good father or mother, or not a good friend. From a work Perspective, they carry low self-esteem and they feel like they can’t do things because they’re not good or capable.

Why you’re feeling worthless?

There are many reasons people go through this feeling of worthlessness. Some of the main reasons I’m going to mention below.

People made you feel like this

Yes, sometimes it’s not you, it’s them. Sometimes you’re not responsible for this thought process. People around you make you feel like this again and again.

For example

Parents usually keep their hopes on their children and in the process they start to compare them with other children. When children don’t meet their parent’s expectations they start scolding them. That can cause low self-esteem in them and they started feeling worthless.

The same goes for other toxic people in your life like a toxic relationship, toxic friendships, toxic boss, colleagues. If you’re surrounded by toxic people, they can definitely make you feel worthless.

Change in life

It can be losing someone dear to you, losing your job, or going through a breakup. These sudden changes in life can affect your low self-esteem. If you’re mentally weak at that point and having low self-esteem, this can definitely trigger your feeling of worthlessness.

For example

You’re seeing a happy couple together after your breakup, you feel low all of sudden. If you’ve lost your job and your friend or cousin get promotions, you’ll feel like you’re Worthless.

Comparison

Everyone’s life is different, everyone’s circumstances are different. But as a human, it’s in our nature to compare our life with others. If we’re not focused on our lives and our goals we usually check out other people and if they’re doing good than us, we feel depressed and feel behind in life.

These days the popular platform for comparison is social media. When people compare their life with each other, the feeling of worthlessness strikes in.

So these all are some reasons and mainly the trigger points for this feeling of worthlessness. With all these feelings if you have got a negative mindset these feelings can be more problematic for you.

How to stop feeling worthless?

Let’s know about some ways to stop feeling worthless and to overcome the feeling of worthlessness.

Take responsibility for your life

Understand this important point. Your life is your responsibility, you can’t blame others every time. And also you can’t depend upon others to take care of you and your life. Just trust yourself enough to take responsibility for your life and bring the change you want.

Believe that you’re capable to face the challenges life throwing at you. Life is not fair always but you’ve to make it anyway. I believe you can.

Let go and move on

This is one mantra that can be helpful in many other aspects of life also. You can’t always be stuck in one place or situation forever if you want to be happy or successful.

Just let go of the past that is bothering you, let go of the toxic relationship, let go of failures, and just move on towards the bright side. It’s all about just one decision.

Be at the present moment

Try to be at present moment. You need to see what’s ahead in your life and how you’re going to get that or reach there. Whenever you’re feeling worthless just keep reminding yourself that you need to be at present moment.

Don’t be anxious about a bad past or worrisome future. Just be at present moment instead of putting pressure on yourself. Whenever you feel this feeling of worthlessness just think that what you can do now? What’s in front of you? Take a chance for now.

Remember you’re not alone

Yes, you’re not alone. This is a common human feeling to feel worthless sometimes but don’t let this feeling overpower you. Accept reality and try to overcome it. Nobody is worthless in this world, you just have to recognize your purpose. Don’t believe your negative mindset. You’re far more powerful than your thoughts. See the positive aspects of yourself. Trust me you have got the power to overcome these feelings whenever you’re feeling worthless.

Do you ever get annoyed by a clingy colleague who sits next to your desk? Do you get tired of unlimited talks of an acquaintance Or Do you force yourself to parties with friends when you really don’t want to? No matter if you’re a private person or a social and open person. Everyone needs space. So let’s know about how to protect your personal space by making healthy boundaries.

What is personal space?

Our brain creates a boundary around us where we feel comfortable with ourselves. It can be measured by a distance you want to keep between you and other people to feel okay and comfortable. Space psychologically we think belongs to us only. It can be physical as well as mental. This distance from you and other people depends upon the person to person and that’s how you protect your personal space accordingly.

For example

You like being around with your mom but you don’t like to be around your aunt or someone else.

You enjoy the company of your best friend or a particular friend but you don’t like to be close to other friends.

Why personal space is important?

As I told you above no matter if you’re an introvert or extrovert, your alone time, personal space is important. It is important for one’s mental health and peace of mind. There’s a need to protect your personal space to focus on yourself, your life, and your goals.

Your personal space protects you from stress and anxiety too. You see if you’re having a break from people, places, and things from time to time, you’ll be more relaxed. If you’re in your personal space you can do what you like to do without any interruption or distraction. So you should protect your personal space to protect yourself from unwanted things, reduce distractions, and to stay focused on what actually matters.

Ways to protect your personal space

Most of us have people or surroundings in our life who doesn’t respect our personal boundaries enough. Sometimes they do it intentionally and sometimes situations are like that. And they can be anyone like a good friend, family member, boss, colleague, classmate, acquaintance.

As a social being, you can’t just ignore people and walk away. So here are some ways to protect your personal space by creating healthy boundaries:

Accept the need for personal space

When you don’t respect your personal space yourself you’ll definitely get drained sooner or later. So you should know first that you need to create boundaries around you to protect your personal space. Before you get drained. Don’t think about what others will think. Don’t think about what if other’s will feel bad. Just think about you. If you’ll allow people to enter your space they will without any hesitation and restriction. Because it’s about you, it’s not about them. Just accept that it’s important and it’s not wrong to have your personal space.

Use Humor

Humor is a good way to escape any situation easily without being rude and awkward. When you’ll use Humar to maintain a healthy boundary, you’ll not offend people. For example, when your coworker is clingy and irritating you can say the same thing to him or her in humor. Like “You like a lot to be with me or cling to me are you getting obsessed or what?”. This will make them realize that they’re doing something which is noticeable and they’ll be conscious about it next time. This way you can protect your personal space smartly without getting rude.

Be Polite with being firm

You can’t just shout at people to get away from you. Most of the people are not able to make boundaries around them because they don’t want to appear as rude and unfriendly. You can definitely be polite and protect your personal space. You can just make the other people understand calmly that he or she’s breaking your boundary.

For example

Suppose you’re doing some project work and your coworker is disturbing you or talking to you continuously you can’t just stand up and shout him to go away. Just be calm and make him understand calmly and politely that “I’ll listen to you and discuss everything with you but I need to finish my work first”. So that’s how you can protect your personal space without being rude.

Learn to say no

If you’re too concern about hurting others, being rude, and being guilty over setting your boundaries then you don’t actually understand –

The power of No

You need to say no if you really want to set boundaries and stick to your decisions. Try to say no to things that are not important. Cut off all the necessary things. If you don’t really need to go to a party then avoid it. When you don’t need to travel then don’t.

Have you been through people who are very much passionate and committed to their goals? They’ve been through a lot in life but still, they stick to their goal, their commitment. Failures and obstacles cannot stop them to achieve their goal. So if you’ve been through anyone like that – they’re people having Grit. And if you want to be like them then you also need to develop grit.

What is Grit?

A personality trait of passion and perseverance towards the goal, the dream, and success is known as grit. It is also known as mental toughness to fight all the odds and obstacles to achieve something meaningful in life.

Why Grit is important?

Well, today’s world is in fast forward mode. Most people want everything as soon as possible. Job, girlfriend/boyfriend, luxurious car, lavish apartment, money, and many more. It depends upon many factors.

So some can achieve it soon and many people can’t because there’s no guarantee for anything. Some people keep trying and some look for shortcuts. But shortcut is no guarantee to success.

But people who possess grit have higher chances to have success and reach their goals. Because when you’re trying again and again and facing failure, it’s easy to give up than to keep trying. But people with grit keep trying and they stick to their goal and sooner or later they actually achieve it. Grit is a magical formula to be successful if you really want to.

Grit is a realization that says ” I Can”.

What are the characteristics of grit?

Just know if you’re already possessing some characteristics of grit or if you need to work on yourself to develop them. So here are a few main characteristics of grit :

Passion

One needs to be passionate about his or her goal. First, you need to know what exactly you want, then you need to work towards achieving it. One must have a purpose with passion. People with purpose and passion have a positive attitude towards their goal. They know they can so definitely they can.

Vigilance

People who possess grit are conscious enough about what they are doing and what they want to do. They are careful about everything. One can do anything but one should do the right thing also. People with grit know that my goal is meaningful and I’m capable enough to do that. Once they understand things, then they channelize their energy towards it. It should not be like you’re perfect at singing but you set your goal to become a master chef. You should know very well what you are doing. Is it right for you or not?

Perseverance

One of the important characteristics of grit. It can be defined as the strong mindset and ability to cross all the hardships and obstacles to achieve what you want. Most of the people choose to quit when they face failure again and again but people who possess grit don’t quit even when they’re struggling, facing failures. They know very well this is the road that they need to cross to reach their goal.

How to develop Grit?

It’s not a hereditary thing. You need to train your brain to develop a grid. If you’re honest enough with yourself, your purpose, and goals you can develop grit with practice. Let’s know how to develop grit:

Hard work

Working hard is necessary if you want to achieve something. If you’re perfect in something and you’re in the right place with good luck, it can be easy for you. But with hard work, you don’t need to take any chance. Success will be definite.

Practice

If you want to learn something like music, cooking, sports, or anything, you need practice. So even when you’re working hard to achieve what you want, you need to practice for that. Again and again. If you get a failure, practice again then try again. Remember practice is very important.

Manage your distractions

In life, there are distractions for everything. And these distractions keep us away from our goal. One really needs to focus on what matters. Just focus on one thing – Why you’ve started? Ignore the distractions to focus on your goal.

These distractions can be your gadgets, your comfort zone, your toxic relationship, your addiction, or anything that restrict your growth. To develop grit one needs to manage the distractions.

Work on your mindset

We are humans. We can be vulnerable at some point in life and that’s natural. Sometimes we get tired of everything. Here you need to change your thought process and work on your mindset to strengthen your thoughts. Just keep in your mind “I can”. If you want to achieve it you need to work on that. Leave your fears, insecurities behind to move forward with possession of grit.

Just remember one thing you just need to shift your mindset from “I can’t” to “I can”. Don’t give up on yourself, your goals, and your dreams. Have grit and make it.

Do you ever feel you’re blacking out all of sudden? You want to do some task and suddenly you forget what you actually want to do? You go to the kitchen, open the fridge and you suddenly forget what you’re looking for. Have you ever experienced something like this? If Yes then you might be dealing with brain fog.

What is brain fog?

This condition is not a medical condition or medical diagnosis but it is a kind of cognitive dysfunction and term to describe chronic mental fatigue. It can be because of some underlying medical condition, stress, or lifestyle.

Symptoms of brain fog can interfere in your daily life. It can affect your memory, concentration, and recalling things.

What are the symptoms of brain fog?

Symptoms of this condition can be different for everyone. It depends on its causes and severity. In some cases, these are very intense and in some cases, these can be mild. So let’s know about some common symptoms of brain fog.

Difficulty in recalling things

Sometimes it’s hard to recall a maths formula or chemistry equations all of sudden but it should not be hard to remember where are the door’s key, what you’re going to do, what you ate in breakfast, or what you’re looking for in the fridge? But when you’re suffering from brain fog you usually start to forget simple things and it’s hard to recall them often.

No or Less Concentration

Whenever you’re suffering from brain fog you can not concentrate. You can not focus on simple things also. And this can make your daily tasks difficult. It’s kind of you’re doing something and thinking about something else. Your brain wanders off constantly and making everything difficult for you.

Mental Fatigue

You’ll feel tired no matter if you’re taking enough rest or having coffee. You can feel a headache mild or severe. You’ll feel like not doing anything. You know that you are capable and you can do the work but you just don’t feel like doing it. You can feel mixed emotions like anger, laziness, or frustration because of this. You’ll often feel unproductive with low or no energy.

What are the causes of brain fog and how to fix it?

Brain fog is an important signal your brain is sending you to inform you that there are imbalances and something wrong with your lifestyle and health. There must be some imbalance in life that needs to be fixed. So let’s know about some common causes of brain fog and how to fix them.

Stress

Stress is one of the most common causes of brain fog. Whenever you’re overly stressed out you can feel the symptoms of brain fog. Stress can cause hormonal imbalance which can lead to this condition. Usually, hormonal imbalance corrects itself when you’ll get of stress but if stress is constant it can lead to continuous imbalance which can be problematic for your mental health.

Fix It

Take a break from your routine work. Do meditation, workout, and rest. Don’t ignore the symptoms. It’s better to fix them at a very initial stage. Cut off the unnecessary work from your to-do list. Have some outing with your friends and family. Spend some time with yourself. Do what makes you happy.

Nutritional Deficiencies

Sometimes we just have food just because we can not live without it and we have to. But nutritious food is important than only food. Your mental health and physical health are interconnected. You need to work on both to make a balance between food. Both need fuel to work. And fuel is the diet and nutrition we are taking.

So bad fuel or improper diet can lead to many problems physically as well as mentally. And can be a major reason for brain fog.

Fix It

Have a balanced diet. And proper nutrition in the diet. Have proper and balanced carbohydrates and protein-rich food. Eat fresh food. Fish, whole grains, green leafy vegetables, and nuts are good for mental health.

Sedentary or inactive lifestyle

This is also one of the main reasons for brain fog. Being inactive physically can lead to mental fatigue easily. For proper blood and oxygen supply to the brain, one needs to be active enough. A sedentary lifestyle can lead not only to brain fog but also many other mental health issues and physical issues as well.

Fix It

Do workout or exercise regularly. Exercise also reduces stress levels. Motivate yourself to do the workout. It can be gym exercise, home workout, running, or just a brisk walk. The more you get active the more your brain fog will be disappeared.

Lack of Sleep

If you’re suffering from insomnia or disturbed sleep you probably can experience brain fog. Lack of sleep can cause mental tiredness which can lead to less focus or less concentration.

Fix It

Take proper sleep. If you can’t then just work on it. Do meditation regularly. Limit the use of electronic appliances, phones, tv before sleep. If you’ll work out regularly you can sleep better.

There are some more causes for brain fog like

Dehydration

Underlying Medical Condition

Anxiety

Depression

Medications

Well, brain fog is a condition in which you can treat yourself. You don’t need to panic about it. Just understand about it and make some small changes in your lifestyle for that. Just have some patience and trust with yourself.

Anxiety, seven letter word which carries folded and endless emotions. It is not time-specific neither it requires any invitation for it’s arrival. One can be in anxiety in a moment or it can reach in doses. All it takes away from you is your peace and leaves you in a state of helplessness.

It’s just a brief up. Now to know about it in-depth, let’s start with its meaning.

What actually Anxiety means?

It can be experienced as

excessive worry

Fatigue

Restlessness

Impaired concentration

Irritability

Difficulty in sleeping

These are some of the most experienced forms of anxiety.

In general, This is our body’s natural response to something bothering us.

But when it comes to understanding the depth of anxiety we discover that each one of us has our own meaning of anxiety.

For example

A child’s 1st day to school, where he’s nervous to meet new people.

A job interview, for which you were sleepless for the whole night.

A stage performance, which made you worried all the time.

A crowded place, where you feel irritated.

If we read the above examples, we may find it casual. It is in some or other ways helping you to fight your fear or nervousness. But here’s the difference what is casual to you or me may not be the case with others. So, anxiety can take any form smaller to bigger. It can be negligible sometimes but to some, it’s the only thing they are dealing with.

Note: If the above-mentioned experiences are rarely it’s okay. But the problem arises when these experiences are extreme and last for longer than 6 months, when you can feel these experiences or emotions are overflowing in your daily life and have started interfering with your life then it’s a SIGN OF AN ANXIETY DISORDER.

Now, what is an ANXIETY DISORDER?

Anxiety disorder is a disconnection between your mind and body.

It creeps in day time or night, slowly and gradually. And stops you from doing what you Loved once and enjoyed the most.

It kills the zeal and enthusiasm in you.

Say it stops you from writing or painting once was your passion.

Stops you from attending social gatherings.

The examples to this are many more.

Types – Anxiety can hit you in any of these forms.

Panic disorder

Phobia

Social anxiety disorder

Obsessive-compulsive disorder

Separation anxiety disorder

Illness anxiety disorder

Post-traumatic stress disorder

ANXIETY ATTACKS?

To understand Anxiety attacks we need to first absorb this in our mind that these attacks are different to different person. To some it can be a feeling of overwhelming apprehension to some it is a worry to some it can be fear. These attacks are built slowly reaches its destination and turns out to be physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting.

Symptoms of an anxiety attack are sweating, feeling dizzy, chills, dry mouth, etc.

CAUSES –

If you dig in for researches you’ll come to know that the causes of anxiety disorder are not sure. Because it’s different for different person. It’s totally personal experience. Those experiences yet fail to express or convey. It can be said that there are various factors like brain chemistry, environment, and genetics which are to some extent responsible for these attacks

REMEDIES

You all are aware of Medical treatments and visits to a doctor or a psychologist. But here you need to focus on natural remedies. The far best is CHANGE IN LIFESTYLE. Change in the pattern you follow in your daily life. Your perspective towards life and things. This can be anything to everything. Say, taking care of your body – waking up early, proper sleep, eating healthy.

Company of people who are inspired, lively, motivated, and energetic.

Indulging in different activities like art, any workshop, physical activities, sports, or yoga.

To end this, it’s very important to know the ways anxiety can present itself. So that once you acknowledge it, you can work on it.

If you are facing this anxiety disorder, we all have faced it at some point in life, the only difference you can make is to speak it out. Reach for help. And find yourself again.

In this age of social media and virtual intelligence, there are many theories about social media. The positive and negative impact, pros and cons of social media, and many more things. But is social media addiction a real problem? Let’s know more about it.

Do you feel the urge to scroll through your social media platforms most of the time even when you’re occupied somewhere else? Do you check your notifications again and again within a few minutes? Do people’s likes and comments on your social media posts affect you and your personal life a lot?

Well if the answer is yes then you are possibly going through this behavioral addiction of social media.

What is social media addiction?

Social media addiction is a kind of behavioral addiction. Where people are obsessed with social networking websites or applications. They usually develop a compulsive obsession with social media.

They develop an uncontrollable urge to check their phones, social media notifications, and use social media again and again. They spend most of the time in their social media, virtual life and less focused on other areas of life, real life. Now we need to think of social media addiction is a real problem.

Do social media affect our brains?

All kinds of addictions almost have the same blueprint. Of course, Social media can affect us mentally and then physically too. When we observe someone using excessive social media or we can say social media addict, it affects someone equivalent to other addictive substances.

For example

Someone gets addicted to something because he wants to escape something else. People get addicted to things because they want to feel good. The same thing happens with social media addiction.

When people get notifications, messages, or mentions in social media handles, they feel like they’re getting attention from other people and they feel good about it. The brain receives a rush of dopamine and results in good feelings and pleasure. It’s like when someone posts a picture and gets a positive response from people, he naturally feels good and when he doesn’t get the desired result he feels bad. So social media addiction can affect our minds a lot. This can definitely somehow provide somewhere the answer to “is social media addiction a real problem?”

How to recognize if someone is addicted to social media?

Many people use social media casually. They just developed a habit to check their social media accounts again and again. But some people get more into this and develop social media addiction. So here are a few things one can check to know if they’re suffering from social media addiction.

Signs of social media addiction

1. When you’re going to someplace where you’re not having Wi-Fi or a mobile network, you get anxious about it. You try and walk here and there to see if your phone is catching signals or not. And it’s not about the calls from friends and family but it’s about your WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, or other social media platforms.

2. You’re at some meeting or family get together. Suddenly your phone beeps, you get a notification and you can’t resist checking the phone. You try to check the phone in between everything. Then you really need to consider is social media addiction is a real problem?

3. You get happy when you get more likes, shares, and comments and you get sad and upset when you’re having fewer comments and likes.

4. You hardly care about your real-life friends and family because you’re more into your virtual friendships and virtual life. You get distant from everything and everyone. You’re more with your phone than the real people.

5. Whenever you are posting some event photographs or some traveling photos, you click them and consider them if they’re likable by social media friends or not. You think before clicking the picture that it will get more likes. Not because you want to keep the memories.

How to stop Social media addiction?

Social media addiction is not a traditional disease but it can damage you mentally and physically as well. It can affect your real life in many ways. Here are some ways to get out of this addiction by yourself.

Take a break

Do take a break from social media after some time. It doesn’t mean to not use your phone or delete your social media handles. But just deactivate them for a few days or one week. Take a break. Engage in real-life activities. Travel with your family or friends, explore nature, read a book, do some meditation, or just take rest.

Set time to use social media

Limit your social media use by assigning time. Just set a particular time for social media like in the evening or after work or after lunch. This will help you to balance your social media usage.

Distance from your devices

Maintain a distance from your digital devices when you don’t actually need them. Occupy yourself somewhere else. Try to let go of the urge to check your phone or keep your phone with you always. Especially when you are on holiday or with family or friends. This will definitely help you to get out of your social media addiction.

Turn off the notifications

When you’ll turn off the notifications, you will not get distracted easily. Sometimes we forget about our phone naturally when we get busy but notifications always remind us to check out phones. So turning off the notifications can help you to limit phone usage.

Is Social Media Addiction A Real Problem?

Well, many people are using social media without having any kind of addiction or problem but there are also people who are getting addicted to social media day by day. This is a problem but this is reversible, if someone wants to get out of this he or she can. You just need to set some boundaries. If you think you’re not able to come out of this by yourself you can also take some professional help.

Do you ever feel you’re fighting with something unknown? And you feel like you’re getting anxious about the things you cannot control? You spend your energy on things that are not under your control like not getting a suitable job, your partner leaving you for someone else, you’re feeling left behind in life, your aging, and many other things. Well, let’s know about non attachment to get rid of all these thoughts and find your inner peace.

What is Non Attachment?

These things that I mentioned above are attachments. Attachments are something we always cling to. These are our desires. And we actually suffer a lot because of all these desires, all these attachments. The practice of non attachment helps you to not get affected by things you can’t control. Non attachment is letting go of all the things and be at peace with the present moment by emphasizing mindfulness. But as a human, we cannot completely detach from all these things.

But let me tell you one thing, detachment, and non attachment are two different things. People often take non attachment as detachment. But these two terms are not the same.

What is the difference between non attachment and detachment?

Well, non attachment is a conscious practice. A practice of mindfulness. Whereas detachment is not any practice. It is more of an escapism. Escaping and running away from things. Whereas non attachment allows your life to live fully without escaping anything. It’s just a mindful practice that allows you to enjoy everything without getting attached to anything, without any suffering.

Attachment and detachment can both lead to suffering and misery. But non attachment is a practice that leads you towards inner peace and contentment.

What does Buddhism say about non attachment?

There are many teachings on non attachment and letting go whether Eastern or Western. But Buddhism teachings on this are clearing the misconception of detachment and non attachment. It says that instead of not getting attached to things, one should go with the flow; accept the things as they are.

Buddhism says that by practicing non attachment you’ll be aware and conscious of the impermanence of everything. And by accepting the fact that everything is shifting and nothing is permanent. With this, you’ll be at peace with the changes. And you’ll be accepting things the way they are.

How to practice non attachment?

The world we’re living in contains so many distractions. The fear of losing your loved ones, struggle for success, fighting with emotions, love, relationship, break-up, so many desires, and attachments. With all these things it’s somewhere tough to practice it if you don’t have that much will power but just believe nothing is impossible. You just need to be conscious of this.

But here are some ways to practice non attachment.

Don’t look for happiness outside

We often rely on external things and other people for our happiness. We often think if I’ll get that much money I’ll be happy, if I’ll buy that luxurious car or phone I’ll be happy. But do you think that kind of happiness is permanent? After some time you’ll get bored of such materialistic things. Then you’ll start searching for your happiness from other things.

But this search for happiness from outside is an endless search. Chasing happiness like this will make us suffer instead of happy. If you want to practice non attachment, you need to train yourself to search for happiness within. This is not easy because this is not normal as society conditioned us to believe that it’s normal to be rich, be successful, and then be happy about that.

You just need to make yourself believe that it’s temporary. Inner happiness and peace are constant. With time and practice, you’ll be more mindful and conscious about the importance of inner peace and happiness.

Let go of things you cannot control

Most of the time we suffer because we choose to suffer by trying to control things that we can’t change. And we focus on them more. Pay attention to few words you’re using like – he or she should be like that, I wish I’d done this, this is not the right way, I need to achieve this because everyone else is achieving, I’m feeling left behind in life and many more Ifs, buts, shoulds.

Try not to use them. Allow life to happen. Let go of everything that is bothering you. It’s not easy but with efforts and time, you can practice non attachment to let go of things that are bothering you. Just say once to your mind that you can’t control it so just let go. Have a dialogue with yourself about this often. Eventually, your mind will accept it.

Accept the Uncertainty

One of the most important things you’ll learn through non attachment is nothing is certain and nothing is permanent. Everything shifts at its pace with time.

We get a fearful feeling about our future and many things. We try to predict them and then suffer. Accept the fact we can’t control those results. Let life unfold itself. Let things move at their own pace. Accept the Uncertainty. Don’t fear the unknown. Once you’ll start practicing it you’ll eventually start accepting the uncertainty and be at peace with yourself. Just train your mind for “We will see”. No matter what we will see. Sometimes you don’t have to change the whole thought process. Just a simple change or shift in your perception can do magic for you.

If you want to experience the enlightenment in life and if you’re looking for some ways to find inner peace. You should definitely try this practice of non attachment.

Let me know what are your thoughts about non attachment in the comments below.

Taoism is also pronounced as Dow-ism. It is a philosophy that originated from ancient China.

The human mind is naturally curious. Many unanswered questions are there in the human mind. Like –

Why I’m on this earth?

What is the purpose of life?

Who I am actually?

Why do I exist?

And people try to explore all these questions and curiosities from different ways and perspectives.

Taoism tries to help you with all these questions and many more things about life and living.

What is the meaning of Taoism?

The word “Tao” has many meanings. And it can be applied in many ways. The exact meaning or translation of the word “Tao” is “The way” that can be referred to:

The way we perceive things

The way we deal with life

It is basically a philosophy that emphasis acceptance. Accepting yourself the way you are. Accepting things the way they’re. This practice of wisdom leads to the ultimate requirement of peace. But acceptance is not easy. One should be aware of and awaken enough to accept. So Taoism helps with that. In simple words, it says a person should go with the flow.

What Taoist scripture says?

One should not go against nature and one should not force things to happen. Which better defines the “the way” exact meaning. In layman language what we say is trying to turn back the tide. This is basically the simple concept of Taoism. It emphasizes more on reality than philosophy.

Let’s learn about Taoism with three starting steps:

Don’t try to learn or look for the exact definition of Taoism like other philosophies.

Don’t try to understand Taoism as a philosophy. Just experience it. You’ll learn it naturally and practically with time. It exists more in your life rather than books.

More than understanding the philosophy, it’s more like understanding yourself. It’s all about acceptance. Instead of resolving various contradictions try to accept life the way it is.

There are different people with different perspectives and different circumstances. So Taoism applies differently to everyone. Because what Taoism teaches us is to accept the way you’re. So everyone is different from each other so the way of applying Taoism is automatically different and sometimes it’s contradictory.

How to practice Taoism?

Well in Taoism instead of practicing Taoism it emphasizes more on “Wu-Wei”. Which means doing through non-doing or just going with the flow without forcing something to change and accepting the ultimate reality, being in peace with your own self. Well, there are many variations in Taoism practices.

Let’s know about some simple tips to initiate the practice of Taoism

Accept yourself

Don’t try to change the things you cannot control

Trust your instincts, have a faith in your feelings, and just go with the flow.

Choose to be kind. Taoism support non-violence.

By accepting yourself, accept others as they are. Instead of changing them try to accept them with their flaws. Be kind, supportive, and empathetic towards them.

Philosopher Chuang Tzu says that one should live life as flowing water. Just going with the flow. As the water face, it’s adversities with the same flow, have that strength to face everything in life. Don’t stop and just go with the flow.

Treat everyone the way you want to be treated.

Concept of Ying Yang

TheChineseYingYangconceptteachesusaboutthebalance.Insimplewordsitshowsusthebalancebetweentwohalvesmakingthewhole. Or we can say every coin has two sides and with both the sides coin is complete. Both sides are different but they’re inseparable.

It’s kind of two forces or two energies coexist in the world. They’re relative to each other but yet opposite to each other. When one aspect of YingYang increases, the other one decreases automatically. They change constantly and still continue to make a balance with each other. So one should not be rigid. One should be flexible and accept things to make harmony and balance in life. We need to learn from both aspects of life.

How Taoism can transform your life?

Well, it teaches us simple practices that we already know consciously or subconsciously. But the reality is that people can not even follow these simple practices of Taoism. But if you practice and follow Taoism thoroughly it will be possible. Some people will need more time and some will need less time to practice it.

Taoism will make you understand and accept your life in a better way.

Taoism will lead you towards ultimate peace.

You just need to slow down and breathe. Just think about everything related to you, your life. Try to trust your inner guide, trust your instincts. Trust yourself, you already know what you actually need. Taoism says that you’re the master of your life, you just need to believe that. Make a strong connection with your thought process and just go with the flow.
