Contrarian Rule 1: Stop Buying Stuff

Many startup marketers bleed themselves dry by chasing ‘the silver bullet’ – that one magic tool or system that will bring them instant riches. Let’s face it – the industry thrives on this kind of rubbish and hype and, yes, we’re all guilty of it.

We buy the latest course and product, believing all the pre-sales talk, only to fall flat on our faces when it comes to implementation.

It’s a sad fact that the majority of successful Internet marketers have 100’s of gigabytes of Internet marketing genius sitting on their hard drive collecting cyber dust. True, these products do often contribute to our overall learning and education. They may well teach you things that benefit you in the long run. But at what cost?

I know many people that have spent thousands of dollars on products – only to find out that the system that works for them they knew about 12 months ago, didn’t cost anything and is really simple to put in place. Geez, I know guys that buy $2,000 coaching programs but don’t have their own product or a squeeze page collecting subscribers. This is insanity!

What’s worse – I know someone who 12 months ago was going fine – entering Giveaway events and the occasional Adswap – building a list of subscribers slowly but surely – doing everything right. And then what – he stopped – distracted by the latest wiz-bang program that was going to skyrocket his business and make him a super Guru in two weeks.

Six months later he finally got back to the basics and recovered his flagging business.

SO – STOP BUYING STUFF

Find a system that works for you and STICK TO IT. Do not get distracted and side-tracked by the expensive shiny objects. If something works for you then keep going. Patience is a real virtue in the Internet marketing world. Set yourself realistic goals and be focused.
Most of us are strapped for time so we need to use our time wisely. Most of us also do not have a bottomless pit of money to spend on new stuff. As a general rule of thumb:

Only re-invest money earned on new products and be absolutely certain that your purchases are strategic and focused on your core business. In other words – don’t go buying products on CPA marketing if you are focused on list building.

As I have said – we are all guilty of falling for our own industry hype and chasing the silver bullet. But this is one of the major pitfalls facing people staring out in this industry – and for more experienced marketers for that matter! The truth is that the core skills needed to succeed online can be found for free simply by searching online.

One ‘golden rule’ that I have is NEVER buy on impulse. Never read a sales letter and push the Add To Cart button immediately. Ignore the ‘urgent, must act now’ sales letters as we all know this is simply a psychological ploy to get you to purchase immediately.

Reflect on the product and think if it is really right for your business. Do a search online and find out what others are saying about it first before buying. Sleep on it and think about how the product can really help you and do you have time to implement it? Whatever you do, do not buy on impulse as invariably it will end up being a waste of money.

Quick disclaimer – this is just my opinion – I don’t have any special ‘deal’ with these guys to promote them. There are plenty of great and ethical marketers out there – it’s just that these are the people I have come to trust and consider provide excellent content – my apologies if you’re not on the list!!!

How To Get 440 Opt-ins Per Day – Just Like Ann

Over the weekend I watched an amazing video about a woman named Ann – who gets 440 subscribers on her list every day from a strategy she put in place over 2 years ago…

My first reaction was total disbelief… Until the video started going into details about she did it.

It starts out like a case study… and goes on to explain how she turned those subscribers into $1,267,200 over the course of a year.

So here’s what she does…

1) She gives away a free 35 page report that is jammed packed with great content that her niche wants.

2) She gives every reader “giveaway rights” to her report.

3) The report presells her own product and when you become a customer, you get “branding rights” to the report.

4) As a new customer (i.e. affiliate) they start sharing her report all over the web and earn commissions when someone upgrades from their link inside the report.

That’s it!

I know it sounds simple because it is!

Make Good Money Online – Learn From The Guru’s

If you want to make good money online where do you start? This is probably THE most asked question successful Internet marketers face. So what is the answer? Well, it depends on who you talk to! Of course, this does not help if you are looking for a quick answer on how to make good money.

I has interviewed 10 top marketers from all over the world including some of the most successful online entrepreneurs on the planet. One of the questions fired at these online guru’s was “what personal characteristics does it take to succeed online?”

Most agreed that to succeed online you need a strong personal motivation that means you will not give up. The biggest myth of working online is ‘instant riches’. You need motivation, persistence and patience. Do you have that?

Next, what skills do you need to make good money online? Interestingly, most agreed that you actually do not need too many skills. One or two highly successful marketers confessed to being incapable of any kind of web design or SEO or keyword research. The important thing was to know what your skills are and to outsource the rest. Not try to do everything yourself. Naturally you need to know what skills are needed, to focus on those skills and to only do yourself what you are capable of doing.

Another interesting question was “if you had to start again what would you do?” The answers were unanimous. Build a subscriber list. All top marketers have a list and in their formative years online concentrated on building their list, often through Giveaway events and adswaps. Even when their businesses became established and lists grew into 10, 20 ,50 or even 100,000 people the successful marketers still concentrated on building lists. This was regardless of the nature of their business.

So, if you want to start to make good money online then make sure you have a strong motivation, that you know what your skills are and don’t try to do everyting yourself and, in the early stages focus on building your subscriber base. Sounds simple!!

How To “Borrow” Other People’s Buzz TODAY (Think Traffic!)

Did you know that other people “warm up” your customers for you with their “big product launches”? And, did you further know, that a huge opportunity for you to create sales for YOUR product or a product you promote as an affiliate can be the result? If, that is, you “borrow” the buzz that other people are generating.

Imagine this scenario…

Mr. Marketer creates a new $2,000 product. He “launches” it with his friends. Everyone on the forums is talking about it. Every email sent out within the marketplace has something to say about it. Bloggers are raving. The whole industry is buzzing about the new launch. The average conversion rate is 2%. And that’s not on $2,000 products. But, let’s assume that Mr. Marketer is the best in the biz. And he can generate something obscene like 25% conversion rate on a $2,000 offer (which, by the way, ain’t likely to happen).

If that were to happen, the flipside is this: 75% DON’T BUY. In other words, for every 100 visitors to the “launch” site, 75 of them walk away without buying. Were they uninterested? If that’s the case, they likely wouldn’t have visited the site in the first place.

In the majority of the cases, they $2,000 price tag was out of their reach. Not in the budget. Don’t have the money. Been there, done that … didn’t have the cash to buy the t-shirt! So, what can we learn from this?

We can learn…

These 75 out of every 100 who don’t buy are probably interested to some degree.
These 75 out of every 100 have heard all of the buzz and have been “presold” on the premise of the product.
These 75 out of every 100 are strong candidates to buy a lower-priced, related alternative.

That’s where YOU come into the picture.

You “borrow” the buzz that’s been generated for the big product being launched by talked about by everyone as you promote a lower-priced, related alternative!

Here’s how you do it…

1. Look for high-dollar launches in your market.

The first step is to keep your eye on the pulse of your market. Whenever a major new product is being launched, get busy. You’ll usually know days, if not weeks, in advance because that’s how launches work: they do a lot of “pre” build-up work to get people salivating for the eventual launch. Keep your eyes out for anything new in the works.

2. Promote a low-cost alternative.

It doesn’t matter if you write a quick 10-15 page report, promote your own existing product that is related or grab an affiliate link to some other existing product or service. It doesn’t really matter WHERE you obtain this lower-priced alternative. The important thing is that you find one. It needs to be related to the topic of the big product being launched. It can be related either (a) by teaching a similar concept, or (b) teaching a portion of the big product’s concept.

3. Write a mailing that explains the two options.

You’ll want to write a mailing to send to your subscribers or to post at your blog. This mailing needs to contain three important elements…

Content that presells. Share some meaty nuggets related to the offer you are ultimately going to promote to set the table.
A small blurb about big launch with your link. Mention the “major” launch briefly. Describe it’s benefits and use an affiliate link of yours to point to the offer. Mention that it’s only drawback is “price”. Express that many people can’t afford it.
A stronger promotion for your option. Then, really hit home with this “lower-priced, related alternative”. Let them know the benefits are similar at a fraction of the cost. Be sure to point out that it’s priced for everyone — especially those who feel “left out” of the big budget launch because they can’t afford it.

Then, it’s just a matter of getting that mailing out to your subscribers.

Let’s look at what you have in place as a result of this strategy…

You have two promotions: a minor one for the same “major” launch everyone else is promoting, and a “major” one for the lower-priced, related alternative.
You have “borrowed buzz”. Everyone in the marketplace is warming up prospects with all of their “talk” about the importance of the subject matter of the “big product launch”. They are primed and ready to buy … something!
You have a spike in sales coming.

This is a wonderful strategy for getting extra sales.

Remember, there are always a whole lot more people who DON’T buy the product being offered in the “launch”, than those who do! You’ve got a huge pool of prospects in the 75-98% of people who don’t buy the $2,000 offer. Many of them WILL buy a lower-priced, related alternative.

So, the only thing left for you to do is get started.
