I started Thursday of NXNE '09 with Zeus and ended up seeing a total of eight bands play that same night. Even though sometimes the first set of the night can fade in my memory, Zeus stood out in their own way among a night of great performances. For the month July, Zeus is doing a Wednesday night residency at The Dakota Tavern - I missed the first one on July 1st, but when July 8th rolled around I was looking to get out and photograph and band, and Zeus was it.

Even if you have seen the business cards I hand out sometimes, what you might not know is that the image I use on the front of the card is of Nic Cester (vocals, guitar) from JET. Their 2003 album Get Born was played heavily in my household, and even though their second album Shine On was met with some hilariously nasty reviews (I'm looking at you, Pitchfork), I thought it was a pretty decent follow-up. Now with their third studio album set to be released August 25th, JET set out for a pre-release tour.

Wavelength is a weekly live music series that is run every Sunday night at Sneaky Dee's. It showcases independent bands (Broken Social Scene, The Constantines, Tokyo Police Club have all played Wavelength in the past), but in my experience, it also includes some of the more experimental acts you'll see. I went this past Sunday to see Deleted Scenes, a band from Washington D.C. that fits in the former category, but I got there in time to see Circus School, an act this fits firmly in the latter.

It was really only by chance that I ended up at the Theory Of A Deadman concert. As I mentioned in my Sunday article about The Artist Sanctuary, I noticed one of the guys from Theory Of A Deadman was wearing a shirt from The Parlor Mob, and when I spoke to him about it, I learned that The Parlor Mob were going to be opening the show on the upcoming Thursday. I've been listening to The Parlor Mob album regularly and love it, and I like a few of the hits from Theory Of A Deadman, so we made some on-the-spot arrangements. Sometimes I wake up on Monday and wonder how I managed to get through the past few days without forgetting who I am. I was out on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for NXNE, and then spent some of Saturday at The Artist Sanctuary.
