The summer of 2010 was the first summer of the tablet computer evolution/revolution. After the summer I can honestly say that there will be something like a “revolution” in the computer industry despite the fact that the iPad has not even reached Scandinavia yet. I make this bold assumption based on the experience from this summer. I bought an iPad from the USA in the middle of June so I have used it for two months now. If you can read Swedish, you might want to head over to Peter Alsbjer’s blog about culture and libraries in interaction communities where I was guest blogging last Friday. The article translates to something like A summer with an iPad. It is a short essay about some of my experiences and reflections from this summer with an iPad.

Note that dthis is a very “light” article and I have concentrated on the main merits of the iPad. There are some obvious negative points to make. All of these has to do with the fact that the iPad does not stand up to a computer when it comes to “computing functionality”. iOS is also a very closed system and some things are simply not possible to do.

I’m tired of blogging – not that I never really got into it…. Not really. I like to write things, but from now on I’m going to publish everything externally and this web site will be an intersection of my contribution around the web. I will not add old writings so if you are after something older than July 2010 you’ll have to use a search enginge like Google. So this blog, this rss flow will contain short announcements of what I publish elswhere.

To publish a text means to transfer it to the public domain. Traditionally it also means something beyond yourself. An organization or company make a choice to disseminate the text to a wider audience. This choice is generally built on political or aesthetic reasons. These reasons are not personal. The publisher is not only speaking to a larger audience, it is also speaking for something larger like a social cause or an institution. The communication is in a sense many-to-many rather than one-to-many, which is the common communication in blogs and other contemporary self publishing frameworks on the net.

PeterGiger.Com is a personal project to move beyond the short but seemingly powerful tradition of early Internet self publishing. The next few posts, and the about page, will explain why and how.
